Google
Delicious milk shakes. I had the mint oreo and my wife had the bananas foster. They were both good and I look forward to try the other flavors. They also have a loyalty program. How cool is that?

Stacy D

Google
The Milkshake Factory has the best dairy-free milkshake around. Bonus points that four flavor options are offered for dairy-free milkshakes. I stopped in last week and ordered a dairy-free chocolate shake. The employee working that day was very helpful, friendly, and efficient. The establishment is clean, bright, and welcoming. My only critique would be that shakes are only offered in one size. I may be the minority in wishing for a smaller size offering.

Rachel Brower

Google
Okay I would have taken a picture of my milkshake too, but the second I saw it, I had to eat it lol. So delicious! And the staff is super friendly. Oh, and they have a ton of different types of chocolates that you can purchase, too. They even had free samples...! A nice treat on a nice day.

Mandy Tetzlaff

Google
The cutest milkshake shop. Clean and bright interior with friendly staff. We stuck with the traditional flavors including a Cookies and Crème and Vanilla shake. Both were very thick and flavorful.

H Gerken

Google
This is a must!! Friendly staff, clean and respectful all around. The milkshakes are amazing and worth it. I had a sip of my wives and decide my diet wasn't worth the chance to not try out these delicious hot chocolate floats. Getting and don't regret it.

Dave G

Google
This place is so delicious! Cold brew beer with ice cream. Rootbeer floats. Amazing milkshakes or malts. This place also Carrie's a wine variety of confections and chocolate dipped goodies. Great prices and great service.

Dan Smith

Google
I love coming here for the chocolate raspberry truffle milkshake. Chocolate pretzels are good as well. It always smells awesome in there!

Brittney Toomey

Google
Astrid is literally the best!! She makes the most exquisite creations and is such a bright and uplifting person!! I highly recommend the south side location, the employees are phenomenal at their jobs and the milkshakes are incredible.

Raymond C.

Yelp
Surprisingly not too unbearably sweet. It's very creamy and having me want more which is dangerous. Inside this Jake shake has like some cookie crumble/oreos. It gives a crunchy bite. Overall, I very much loved it despite the calories Service was swift. Plenty of seating to enjoy their drinks with friends. Definitely a good after dinner date spot.

Kendra L.

Yelp
The milkshakes were delicious! The interior was adorable and the service was excellent. Nothing to complain about!

Rylee C.

Yelp
service was amazing great attitude and great atmosphere the food was top 3 in my opinion

Jane H.

Yelp
Delicious milkshakes. Like seriously some of the best shakes I've ever had and they have a good variety of flavors so there's something there for everyone. I've tried the peanut butter chocolate and the chocolate dipped strawberry and I highly recommend both. Though I did get an inside scoop (pun intended) from one of the employees that the banana split shake w crushed pineapples is not it. That's one of their seasonal flavors. Also, apparently they do 1/2 off Jake's shakes whenever he scores a goal so that's pretty cool. Lastly, the store is clean, service is pretty fast even when they get busy later in the evening. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a sweet treat.

Krista Z.

Yelp
Jake shake!!!! Who does not love milkshakes?!?? What's even better - a half price Jake shake when Jake G scores for the Pens! This is the sake the kids look forward to! chocolate shake with hot fudge, cookies & cream, and brownies, topped with whipped cream and a chocolate "59"... so yummy! Street parking and was not busy tonight. Get out there and support the locals!!!!

Jorge Castellanos C.

Yelp
I highly recommend this location. The milk shakes are outstanding and you will mot be disappointed!!!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Their milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard... For real! They do! so delicious! My trusty sidekick and I split The Chocolatier milkshake which is a chocolate shake with brownies, hot fudge, and chocolate chips, topped with whipped cream and a signature piece of chocolate. So. Dang. Good. And not only do they have awesome milkshakes but they have tons of other goodies including super friendly employees that seem unnaturally happy to help you! I'm not complaining especially when they give you free samples :-) This is a must visit If you've never been. Also, they apparently have the ingredients to make milkshakes for lactose intolerant folks (which I am not but figure it would be helpful info for people who are).

Taylor W.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to come for milkshakes. I always get the bananas foster milkshake and the taste is always consistent, the service is usually always great also. I've tried their mint chip milkshake which is also pretty good, but I cannot get enough of the bananas foster and I highly recommend that you try it (with extra caramel)!

Nadia A.

Yelp
Friendly and helpful staff. We asked a billion questions and they explained all the different flavors to us. We were also given samples of thier chocolate. On a Saturday afternoon there was no wait.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
What can I say differently about this location. It's smaller than the one downtown. However it's ran nicely. The shakes are the best here. However I've noticed shakes have gone up in prices. At the end of the day what hasn't. The shakes are the best around. They have dairy free which floats my boat.

Abby K.

Yelp
Milk Shake Factory is my go to when I have a sweets crazing in the southside. The interior is so charming! It's very open and bright. I love the contrast of the red ceiling and white walls and floor. They have a great collection of different milkshakes you can order with three main tiers to their menu: Classic, signature, and gourmet. On the menu is also dairy free options which is awesome! I also recently found out that you can customize your shakes. I highly recommend the salted Carmel and chocolate raspberry truffle shakes. The staff here is always polite and friendly. They are very accommodating! If you're looking for a milkshake in the southside look no further than the Milkshake factory!

Nia L.

Yelp
Just good ole fashion tasty goodness! My work bestie found this place on yelp in preparation for our trip to Pittsburgh. I hate the best shake I've tasted this far. I had the Salted Caramel shake! Just the right amount of caramel and a dash of salt, to top it off they put a salted caramel square right on top! Thee absolute best! My friend had the apple pie shake and there was graham cracker crumbs at the bottom!

J W.

Yelp
Loved it! The Dairy Free options were wonderful and you couldn't tell the difference. Took my daughter there for a treat before heading home. Peanut butter DF milkshake and a Birthday Cake.

Carlie H.

Yelp
The Milk Shake Factory is ALWAYS a great idea. Hands down, literally the best milk shakes I've ever had! It's a bit pricey, but they are definitely worth it. Also, they're pretty quick with making the shakes, so I've never had a long wait.

S B.

Yelp
Stopped by The Milkshake Factory Saturday night for a sweet dessert. First time in Pittsburgh, this location was in walking distance to the hotel. I got the brownie sundae and the others in my party got milkshakes. Simple ordering. One size, choose a classic milkshake, or a unique flavor. The shop offered other sweet treats but I only purchased the milkshakes/sundae. There was a line when we arrived; however, we didn't have to wait long for our order to be completed. There were a few tables to sit at inside but most people ordered and walked out with it. Clean store, friendly staff. I'd recommend this shop.

Larissa G.

Yelp
This is one of my absolute favorite places to grab a sweet treat in the South Side. As the name suggests, milkshakes are the staple of this business' menu. Their thick and tasty shake options range from ordinary chocolate to gourmet (and often seasonal) specialties. Dairy-free shakes are also available, and there are sundaes for those who want to take their indulgence to the next level. To date though I've really only gone for the shakes because when they're THIS good and there's always a new flavor or two, it's hard to move on to try other desserts! By the way, while the name suggests that ice cream is all the place has to offer, that's just not so. There are also boxes of chocolates waiting and ready to go home with you, as well as various pieces of chocolate on display and ready for purchasing at their counter. Both are potential options if you're not quite up for a giant serving of ice cream, and the boxed chocolate is great for sharing (or not!) at home later on. A few additional notes of mine: seating is limited here compared to the downtown location, but since a lot of people opt to enjoy their dessert on the go, this hasn't been a problem during my visits. Like their downtown counterpart their desserts are admittedly on the pricier side, but since I'm very rarely in the South Side I'm admittedly more willing to indulge when I'm nearby. And sadly, like their sister location, they're also overly reliant on to-go cups, even if you stay and enjoy your shake in-house. I always make sure I'm able to take mine home and recycle it before stopping by. Regardless, while I can't say I'm a frequent visitor here for various reasons, I definitely enjoy what this place has to offer when I do stop by. Next time you're in the South Side and looking to treat 'yo self, give the Milkshake Factory a try - even if you're not sure you want ice cream (it happens, I won't judge!), chances are good that you'll find something to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Karla D.

Yelp
This long-standing location is iconic with the South Side. I've been coming to this spot since the heyday of the South Side 90s. As with my previous reviews for other locations, everything here is always tasty and fresh. They really do have a way with the milkshake. I don't get over here as often as I'd like but I'm thankful to be closer to other locations.

Ken L.

Yelp
Who doesn't love ice cream? Milkshake factory whips up custom shakes with just about any ice cream you want and their versions of handmade ice cream whoops others like Millie's or Dave and Andy's in Pittsburgh. In addition, other sinful options abound to include chocolate covered bacon, truffles, fondue, fruits, Italian cream soda and other goodies. The ice cream here is comparable to my other five star rated location, Handel's. They both have the richness, creaminess and are true to the flavors they call themselves. Butter Pecan, for instance, has the buttery cream and actual WHOLE pecans blended into every other bite. My choice for dessert or sweet treat after lunch or dinner nearby. They have two locations in Pittsburgh, one on 1705 E Carson and also their new location on 314 Fifth Avenue.

Sara L.

Yelp
Stopped in to grab some dessert on a Friday evening when my son had a football game close by. It's super clean and the workers are very friendly. My daughter has a lactose intolerance, but she enjoys ice cream, so she was so happy to see they offered dairy free options. She ordered a cookies n cream shake and could not believe how creamy it was - it tasted no different than the real deal. My peanut butter cup sundae was a great balance of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and peanut butter sauce. The peanut butter melt away on top was a nice touch! They have some interesting milkshake options - something for everyone! They also have various chocolates and things like chocolate covered pretzels, chips, etc. A nice option on Carson street!

Phil G.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. Most recently I came here with family since an out of town cousin said he wanted a milk shake. It isn't cheap, but it was a special occasion and the shakes were good and the ambiance was fantastic. Somehow it wasn't crowded like it's been each prior visit so we were able to sit at a table inside and drink our shakes. Outside walking back to the parking lot was not pleasant. There was a group of miscreants sitting on the stoop of a closed business harassing people walking by. I know this is Carson St but still.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a sunny Saturday afternoon in March because my boyfriend and I wanted something sweet. The store was very neat, clean, and well organized. There was only one person working but she was very fast and friendly. We were in and out of there in under ten minutes despite the small line. All Covid safety protocols appeared to be properly in place. I ordered the Midnight Cookies and Cream Milkshake, which was every bit as delicious as it sounds. I have no complaints about the quality and taste of my milkshake. I paid almost $9 including tip for my drink though, so this place is definitely pricey, but that's actually a good thing because it will keep me from coming here more often than I should. I'll definitely be back though once the craving strikes again!

Daron D.

Yelp
This was my last visited place while in Pittsburgh and what a way to go out. Came in here and it is chocolate heavan. Basically they have all types of fudge, chocolate covered stuff and chocolate candies. I had the peanut butter cracker and Oreo both chocolate covered (both were pretty damn good) but the peanut butter chocolate covered pretzel was simply great and amazing and just on another level. As for the milkshakes: they have about 20-25 different types and about 7 different sundaes, so plenty of selections in that department. I went with the banana foster shake and man again simple greatness and probably one of the best milkshakes I had in life. Just like having some good ole banana pudding is what the banana foster is to me. This is a must try place while in Pittsburgh.

Ashley H.

Yelp
As I've gotten older, I've noticed dairy and I don't exactly get along. So when my hubs suggested we stop at the Milkshake Factory for dessert, I got nervous. As we selected our free sample of chocolate peppermint bark I noticed something delightful: Dairy Free options!!!! *Commence Happy Dance* I ordered a dairy free coffee milkshake with the expectation that it will not be as tasty as a true dairy milkshake. Oh boy I was wrong! First the coffee flavor will probably keep me up a bit later than planned, but well worth it! Rich in flavor and creamy in consistency, I had to ask how this was dairy free. I was informed it's soy ice cream with almond milk and coffee syrup. Apparently their soy ice cream is better than what I've bought before... I'm super excited to have a place with delicious dairy free options! Now when I want a milkshake, I know where I can go and not have tummy issues.

Courtney H.

Yelp
Wow! This was awesome. We stopped here while on a food tour and we asked ourselves how different and good could a milkshake be. The answer is it is surprisingly great! They gave us a plain old vanilla milkshake and it was to die for. The guy that was working said you can always tell who a regular is and who isn't because the regulars tend to get a vanilla milkshake because the original is so good. It is such a cute environments with a bunch of different chocolates too. Would recommend!

Angela D.

Yelp
Milkshakes aren't something that are easy to mess up, but I've been to the milkshake factory twice and never had a good milkshake. The birthday cake milkshake I got today tasted more like fruity pebbles than cake. It was very thin and the whipped cream tasted like it was made with skim milk. Overall, the only thing that had much flavor in the shake was the sprinkles. I thought the first time when I went I just ordered the wrong thing, but after this time, I'm pretty sure they might not make good milkshakes. I'd much rather get a milkshake from a local ice cream shop.

Greg S.

Yelp
Man, this place is always great. Right at 17th St. in the Southside on Carson for any out of towners. Delicious milkshakes, homemade chocolates, they have more than enough to satisfy any sweettooths out there. My go to is the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle shake. Chocolate with Raspberry flavoring makes for a brilliant combination. Smooth and creamy always, so delicious. Always a friendly atmosphere makes this place a favorite go to.

Kristina W.

Yelp
Truly a charming place filled with delicious treats. They've recently updated the inside & it's even more vintage glam & spacious then it was beforehand. I used to live and work just blocks from here which was pretty dangerous haha. Now every time I visit the Southside area and make sure I stop in for a sweet treat. One of my favorite shakes is the cookie dough, I add caramel sauce. I also like the chocolate raspberry and the red velvet! Such a great place for a date or a stop along Carson Street with in your adventures.

Jocelyn G.

Yelp
Quality quality quality !! I highly recommend their milk shakes and/ or their chocolates. The people are friendly and helpful and the taste is top notch. Good place to get gift Chocolates for Valentine's Day or just because.

Padma K.

Yelp
I've only ever had the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle milkshake because it is the best milkshake I've ever had period. I'm sure the other ones are good, but I literally crave the chocolate raspberry truffle one. I'd say that they are a bit pricey so I like to go on Wednesdays because it's half-price milkshakes during a certain time I think 4-6. Best deal. Cute chocolate gifts also for family, friends, etc.

Mikaila S.

Yelp
Oh my gosh. If you haven't been here, stop what you're doing and go immediately. I had to stop here when I was in Pittsburgh for the evening because I saw they had dairy free milkshakes. I got cookies and cream, and I was blown away by how thick and creamy the milkshake was! It was the perfect amount of sweetness too. It was truly iconic

Sam L.

Yelp
BEST. MILKSHAKE. EVERRRRR!!!!! But my FAVORITE part about this place (in the Pittsburgh Paint Arena) is the SERVICE!!! The staff actually went WAY above and beyond!!! THANK YOU to the kind gentleman that helped me. It's a MUST TRY!!!!!!

Donna O.

Yelp
If you like ice cream, but can't have dairy, this is the place for you! If you can't have ice cream for other reasons, you have options! We stopped by for a sweet treat here one afternoon, and had a nice little sundae & some chocolate-covered strawberries. Also, iced coffee. Cute spot on Carson.

Joy C.

Yelp
One of my favorite milkshake joints in Pittsburgh. I have been going to The Milkshake Factory for 10+ years and they never disappoint. They offer about 100 different combinations of milkshake flavors that you can get. So you'll never get bored with their shakes. My fav is pretty much anything toffee. The Milkshake Factory is definitely a regular stop during the warm months!

Paige L.

Yelp
Vegan friendly milk shakes, yeee haw!!! First, let's talk about how friendly the staff is, I obviously wanted to try every flavor they had to offer of their vegan friendly milkshakes, but sadly I couldn't. I ended up going with the chocolate raspberry truffle, which is something I typically wouldn't pick. They were just so convincing and boy were they spot on! It was deeeee-liciousssss, is a large size an option? The store front is super clean and crisp. The restrooms are also super clean and well kept. I have been here only a handful of times (which is probably for the best because it's so amazing), but I just love it so much!

Arlene M.

Yelp
Where better to duck in for a sweet treat on a frigid day? Try the Milk Shake Factory. I was enroute home through Southside from an errand and decided to check this place out. They had all types of different candy as you enter and in the back they have various ice creams. Those ice creams are not homemade. They are sent in from NY. Having had my fill of cookies from last weekend's cookie tour I decided to opt for one of their milkshakes. I learned that they make three of them lactose free using soy and almond milk. One of them has the same name on the regular menu. I ordered chocolate raspberry truffle shake lactose free. I also wanted to try a couple of pieces of the dark chocolate truffles they were selling up front. Those you can buy individually for $.75 or get a box for around $25.00. It all depends upon the candy. The milkshakes sell for $4.50 plus tax. It isn't enormous but worthwhile for a change of pace. I started with the candy and believe me they were mouthwatering good! I then began to drink my shake. It was so rich and creamy! Loved every bit of it. When I was near the end I told the counter lady how much I enjoyed the lactose free shake. By mistake she had given me the regular shake! The manager offered to replace it but by this time I had consumed so much of it that I couldn't handle another one. So if you go with this flavor be sure to specify whether or not you want it lactose free or regular. As I was getting ready to go I saw they sold white and milk chocolate lollipops in the form of the Grinch, a flower or Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. I opted to buy Rudolph for my daughter since she is a fan of milk chocolate. There is a second location downtown and hopefully will check that one out sometime in the future. Best time to go is during the weekdays when you can find metered street parking on Carson St. It is located near south 18th St where you will find other businesses, restaurants, and bars.

Jordan C.

Yelp
Awesome environment, great service, delicious shakes! You can't go wrong with the milkshake factory.

Amanda W.

Yelp
The banana split was very good! The ice creams were creamy and melted in a nice way. The toppings complimented the ice cream well. We also ordered the mint chocolate chip shake, I wasn't a fan. While enjoyed ice cream inside at one of the few tables, I listened to other people's orders and came to the conclusion that I will be trying the peanut butter chocolate shake! I did like the red roof! Unique.

Ken M.

Yelp
Great place to stop in Pittsburgh for a Milk Shake. AMAZING quality and the curb appeal is very attractive! The value here is about average but you pay for the taste and I promise you it doesn't disappoint. You'll be pleased with just about any Milk Shake on the menu from my experience here with a large group. The ice cream sundaes are especially appealing to the eye of one passes you while you're waiting in line. The only recommendation I would like to see, a larger menu.

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Liquid dessert! My friend really have problem to pick 1 out of the 55 different milkshakes combinations! Ended up sadly she picked Chocolate Blueberry, not the most interesting of all.. but the texture of the milkshake is surprisingly light but though really sweet! The Milk Shake Factory does get really busy... lines forming on a Tuesday late evening?! But still plenty of seating if you do prefer to stay in!

Patrick P.

Yelp
While on a walk about on the South side I ventured into the Milk Shake Factory. I really was not in the mood for a milkshake but decided to check it out. I was surprised that they offer much more than milkshakes. While the shakes looked good, I passed for the time being. I did order some trail mix bark and chocolate covered peanut butter Ritz crackers. The trail mix bark was awesome. A thick piece of home made dark chocolate with a mixture of dried nuts, fruit, etc... It was the perfect desert. The chocolate covered peanut butter Ritz cracker was probably the best. It was a perfect ration of the milk chocolate - buttery Ritz - fresh / smooth peanut butter. The center had an airy quality provided by the cracker. It was phenomenal. I am glad I only ordered one of each.

Joseph T.

Yelp
The Milk Shake Factory is one of the top dessert spots on Carson street. The front of the store if filled with appealing truffles and chocolate sweets. At the rear of the business are ice creams and where the milkshakes are made. We opted for an ice cream sundae featuring red velvet and a cake-like flavor topped with bananas and whipped cream. The ice creams were extremely creamy - very gelato like in terms of texture. The interior features a lot of white and pristine materials which highlight the richness of the chocolates. Lastly, they also sell various packaged sweets to take home including truffles and barks.

John B.

Yelp
Expensive milkshakes in a high end candy store. I didn't say they weren't delicious. They most certainly are.

Brittany A.

Yelp
WHERE ELSE WOULD YOU FIND A DAIRY FREE MILKSHAKE?!? Ok here's the thing... I took my sister here while she was in town on Cinco de Mayo because she's a milkshake fanatic and always asking me to get one with her. I'm always avoiding it because I'm lactose intolerant. I eat cheese and stuff like a normal person, but the thought of a milkshake just makes me sick to even think about it. But I gave in and decided to take her because she had a long drive back. Imagine my surprise when I walk in (and it's beautiful on the inside, mind you) when I see they have a list of dairy free options! Not only that but a dairy free option in my favorite kind of ice cream! Raspberry truffle! The shake was amazing. Ah-May-zing. And not too sweet. My boyfriend got the salted caramel which was way too sweet for me but he sucked it down like it was juice. My sister, a Mexican-food lover like myself, got the fried ice cream milkshake. She loved it and I tried it and I LOVED IT. My only complaint was that it wasn't in the dairy free option. But I'm going to make the request one day! We also grabbed a piece of s'mores bark for the road (also fantastic) because who could pass up a display case full of bark? Not this girl. I'm so glad I went and will be going back!

Ian G.

Yelp
Amazing service and the Sundaes where incomparable to anything else. Worth stopping by for the sweet tooth.

Abigail P.

Yelp
Yo I live for this place. Last time I mixed it up and made my own and made a black raspberry with Oreos milk shake. Bc that combo is just delicious and I went like 3 times again. They have a happy hour special too, but yeah omg try dis place and fulfill your craving. The milkshakes in Pittsburgh, in general, are b o m b

Angela D.

Yelp
Employees are rude Won't go back Seriously your serving over priced ice cream do it with a smile and give the customer a happy experience

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I love The Milkshake Factory. This is our go to place for dessert, especially when it comes to Milkshakes. When you first walk-in, you are immediately greeted with a huge display of chocolate items. We especially like the chocolate covered Oreo's. In the back of the store you will find the ice-cream area, they also care seasonal ice-creams, which are usually my favorite. Their ice-creams are decadent, creamy, and flavorful, they don't taste artificial or freezer-burnt.

Meghan C.

Yelp
Very yummy shakes with many many options. I absolutely LOVE the fact that they have dairy free ice cream. It's great for the lactose intolerant to finally get a milkshake!!!! The staff were very nice and helpful. My only complaint is that it's on the pricier side. I got a few candies and such and ended up spending $30 between two people. But it was all very good!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
My brother and I went for a sweet treat after our dinner and they didn't disappoint. First the staff was super patient when I had no idea what I wanted. Then they we're practicing standing with good choir posture and it was just so cute. I got one of the gourmet milkshakes -s'mores. It was good but not great. Im of course comparing all milkshakes to the greatest ever created - good stuff eatery in DC. So my standards are SKY HIGH. This place also lacked the charm of the roadside ice cream stands PA is known for (Page's Dairy Mart forever). That being said this is the BEST MILKSHAKE I'VE HAD IN PITTSBURGH.
