Neighborhoods in Phoenix

"The architecturally distinct Mill Avenue District in Tempe, just south of the Arizona State University campus, has a laid-back vibe and is a good place for walking around and enjoying the scenery. A great addition to the neighborhood is the Tempe Tales, a public art installation of sculptures of jackrabbits scattered through the area. Tempe Town Lake offers a great place to relax in the city with walking and biking trails or boat rentals, and on its shore, the Tempe Center for the Arts showcases a stunning architecture. Casual restaurants and fast-food spots abound in the area, visitors can stop at any corner and find something to enjoy, but for a fine-dining experience, the award-winning House of Tricks is the best choice." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Mill Avenue is a street in the city of Tempe, AZ that runs north/south about four city blocks long. But, the most infamous section is the northern terminus that stretches two blocks from University Drive north towards the Salt River where the area is dominated by bars, chain and local restaurants, movie theaters, shops and everything in between. Part of the street also borders Arizona State University to the west, so simply put, it's a fun, young, energetic, happening spot in town. When I lived in Mesa back in '95/'96, I was still too young to drink but we'd cruise through on the weekends via automobile, lol. Enter present day, my spouse and I were in the city overnight after a weeklong vacay in Puerto Vallarta. Wanting to see the area again and show it to my spouse, we made a special Uber trip from our hotel in Phoenix to Mill Ave. to take in the sights and have cocktails before dinner back in the city. It wasn't as hopping as I remembered, but was still lively nonetheless and felt very safe. Numerous parking areas are peppered throughout the area. We ended up at Fat Tuesday where we had amazing cocktails and apps! OVERALL: Entertaining, lots of dining choices, great nightlife.

This is a nice little shopping center right in the middle of the Mill avenue district of tempe. This little alcove with a bunch more shops is really interesting as well. It's very nice, and there's also a couple of fountains as well. Overall this area is cool and has good places to shop and eat as well.

There are always so many fun places to shop and events to attend. Check this place out during the day and again at night for a different vibe. An easy walk and loads of places to eat and check out. It reminds me of something you'd find back east as far as the old brick buildings and unique places.

A fun little shopping center on Mill Avenue that has its own charm. My only issue with it is that a lot of the shops have very weird hours, meaning that you have to go at a very specific time of day to ensure that they might be open.

I went to the art fair this past weekend in Downtown Tempe. I was surprised at the number of vendors. Alot of the art was top notch, and my favorite was this nice older couple (older than me LOL!), who explained how their tye dye process works and one of my favorites was an acoustical guitar on like a small Persian rug size. Awesome! ☯️

I wonder if many people walk right by the entrance on their jaunt down Mill Ave and don't realize the eclectic shopping experience being missed out on. I highlighted the entrance in green in the photo from the other side of Mill Ave. It's a little North of the NW corner of Mill and 5th St. As an aside, I used to get inexpensive accessories in a shop that was here in 1988 on the second floor.
