Exceptional collection of pottery and jewelry. Very informative displays which taught me a lot about the various styles of indigenous art. Lovely atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. Fabulous jewelry in the museum shop.

Google
Definitely worth a look. She had quite a collection, and must have been a very interesting person to know. Nice lady at the front desk was very knowledgeable about the museum, and directed us to several inverting exhibits we might have otherwise missed. Love the extremely handsome, young man in the gift shop. He really knew his stuff and has a great, and rare mind. I was tickled by our exchange.

Anna Nemanich

Google
The museum is a former home donated to be the place for all the different art pieces. Millicent is not the only artist you will find here. But the most spectacular pieces I found here were the jewelry pieces. Those truly captivated me. Her art is interesting to look at- all have an animal in them to accompany the individual. It was a easy 2 hour visit.

Google
Beautiful collection, artfully displayed. Much more to see than I expected when approaching the building and I enjoyed the variety of tapestry, baskets, pottery, silver and turquoise jewelry and more. The gift shop was extensive and I bought some Navaho made jewelry.

Google
A must-see to get the context and perspective on the roots of ‘Southwest’ art. A precious collection of Native American and Northern New Mexican art. The collection of Maria Martinez’s pottery alone is a mind blower. Add Santos, textiles, graphic arts, silver work, and basketry and you get to see deep into the source of contemporary Southwest art.

Google
Fantastic collection of art and native American jewelry!!! Stunning venue and a great story of this wonderful collection! Don't miss this when you go to Taos!

Google
What a stunning intimate museum. The collection, story, setting., etc. It's a must see. The gift ship itself is like a museum with amazing selections and The manager Laura is delightful and very knowledgeable. A new curator is starting soon and we look forward to what her visions will bring.

Google
Interesting to see the taste of an incredibly wealthy woman…she appreciated local craftsmanship—supported them by collecting their work. Beautiful, she adorned herself & enshrined them in photographs. I would have loved to have known her albeit I suspect she didn’t often laugh.

Yelp
Great museum that flies under the radar of the more well-known museums in town. But this place housed in a rambling old ranch house, has tons of historical Native art as well as contemporary art, pottery and jewelry of the west. Millicent Rogers was a very interesting and creative (and wealthy!) woman who defied the norms for women of her time and championed Native art and artists. She even designed stunning jewelry and an automobile herself.

Yelp
Put this museum at the top of your list for amazing historical artwork of New Mexico. The museum is a treasure; a Top 10 of the best museums I've visited. Be ready for a top-rate gift shop - Lots of fine, custom crafted work.

Yelp
The Millicent Museum is a must see in Taos! The museum is very well organized and Maria's work is amazing. (Her husband painted those designs by hand!). The gift shop is nice and has real artists work. Therefore, the prices are going to be a bit high but worth it because of the quality and craftsmanship of the work. You will not be buying some knock off mass produced jewelry.

Yelp
This is an absolute must see if you are heading to or driving through Taos. You will see native artifacts and artwork like you've never seen before.

Yelp
One of the favorite museums we visited. I love jewelry and she owned so many beautiful pieces. But more then jewelry her story was interesting and all the displays were amazing. Worth the visit

Yelp
Excellent collection. Amazing selection packed into a small museum. Fantastic chests, jewelry, textiles, baskets. Fantastic.

Yelp
Millicent Rogers is my hero. I had never heard of her until my first visit to Taos years ago. Her fascinating life is inspiring. What a time to be alive. She understood the magic of Taos. I highly suggest reading up on her before visiting the museum. It will make the experience even more immersive, as the museum is her former home. The museum is perfect to explore with kids! They even have a coloring station. There are so many fascinating pieces of art, sculpture, furniture, and jewelry. The collection is well curated. Take the time to read about her. The plaques are very informative. The museum even features her own drawings and stories she wrote for her children. Her style was whimsical and beautiful. She clearly was a creative soul. The gift shop is also pretty groovy with jewelry and books and lots of stuff. Pricy but worth it.

Yelp
Excellent museum. I recommend it to anyone visiting the area as you will see and learn about the art of Taos. The collection of artifacts is top notch. It was a short ride from town on the way to see the Rio Grand gorge.

Yelp
Great collection of southwestern art. I learned a lot about different pottery styles each Native American nation has. It also included a good amount of religious art. Not really my style, but I appreciated the extent. Millicent Rogers was an interesting aristocrat. I liked the display near the end of the museum of her drawings. She had a very whimsical style. I didn't like the brightly colored walls in each of the rooms. I felt it detracted from the pieces on display.

Yelp
Lots to see. Local local local feeling. I always enjoy museums and this one is special. The gift shop is over-priced. They need to visit the Georgia O'keefe museum gift shop in Santa Fe - very reasonable prices for fun fun merchandise. When I was there I spent $$$. And looked around foreverrr. Here - no. Too expensive. They need better merchandising. Now to the artwork and information on Millicent. Fabulous. Gorgeous. Interesting. Worth the museum fees. Photos to follow...

Yelp
My heart and soul felt so nourished after spending an afternoon wandering through the immersive exhibits. The love and respect for northern New Mexico and its peoples and land were palpable. LOVED the pottery exhibits and the new Native American Artists in Residence exhibit. And the gift shop is one not to miss. Our first time to visit but definitely not the last. So grateful that they were featured in Best of Taos 2021!!

Yelp
Amazing collection of Native American jewelry-mostly her collection, but some beer artists as well. Beautiful old native rugs and other artifacts with some modern local artists added as well. Worth the 10.00 entry fee and in a lovely setting. Museum is about a 20 minute drive north of Santa Fe which is a nice drive in itself of some of the areas fancy outlying homes.

Yelp
From the outside, this muesum looks small, it appears it doesn't have much to offer. Well, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Once inside you realize it keeps wrapping around and around. Rooms appear out of nowhere that are full of amazing artifacts. You could spend hours in here if you really wanted to. The jewlery was beautiful. The pieces were stunning. The art was impressive as well. The staff loved to talk to you about it all, they really know pretty much all there is to know about all the pieces the museum has to offer. They take pride in Taos, and in the museum, as they well should. I also have to mention that we rolled in on a road trip we were taking, and it wound up being a festival. Admission was free, always a plus. They had wonderful actives all day. We arrived just in time to see some Indian Dancers that almost brought me to tears. We enjoyed some food, and watching demonstrations by local artists crafting their craft. It was such a good day, and so unexpected. We will be back to Taos, and we will for sure return to Millicent Rogers. I recommend anyone visiting Taos swing by and enjoy, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Out of the way museum with some wonderful unstated Indian art from the 1930-1950s. Very unique compared to what you see in the big over priced galleries in town. It's much bigger than it looks when you pull up. The jewelry display was amazing. I wish there was more info on her life as she seemed very interesting. The gift shop had some cool postcards and the museum itself was in her old house so you could see the original parts and where guests of hers had signed their names to the walls. I almost drive past it - it blended well into the landscape.

Yelp
Excellent museum with lots of Native American artworks. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The lady at the gift shop gave us much information as to where to visit around Taos as well as NM in general. Don't miss the potteries made by Maria Martinez on display. Beautiful!

Yelp
This is a really good museum for art lovers and those that appreciate the provenance of the Southwest "look". Tip- Read the Millicent Rogers biography and search the internet for photos and a history of her home. Reading the book will help you appreciate the love she had for the New Mexico land, culture, and people. Yelp
My absolute favorite museum in Taos! I love the recognition of Pueblo, Hispanic and western artists in an intimate former home where textiles, painting, sculpture and pottery co-exist with paintings. Millicent Rogers was a collector and jewelry maker in her own right. You can't leave without checking out the museum store, where all pieces are authentic and lovely.

Yelp
This place had a real impact on me. Millicent Rogers had quite a collection of southwestern artifacts. This is one aspect of this place. The other was her taste in clothes and jewelry. Wow. Her collection of turquoise and exquisite pieces of native american style rival many large collections I've seen. Another room to note was a collection of her drawings and a story. She was a mother of two boys. During times of illness (she had some serious health issues) she would work on a story book for her sons. The drawings are rather impressive and the story is quite good. They display it well. Next, be sure to take a moment to visit the museum store. They have some unique pieces of accessories for the fashion minded.

Yelp
Huge variety of interesting items. Well maintained, although the wood floors are a bit squeaky. The Maria Martinez exhibit was our favorite part. The museum is full of character and well worth the visit if you're interested in the history of New Mexico.

Yelp
An incredible collection of work - well explained, well designed museum - absolutely fascinating. I spent hours in this small museum and could have spent longer. A total unmissable highlight in the area. Knowledgable people in the gift shop.

Yelp
My husband had received a book on her Jewelry...but I'll be honest, we weren't really expecting that much and we were pleasantly surprised. It's a terrific way to spend a morning just north of Taos. It's situated in what started as a gracious home with a courtyard - one warning is my phone was giving me a different name (Wonder Way) but the location is correct. From the outside it looks fairly modest...but it's a bit like the Tardis in that it's much bigger on the inside. You walk through the museum in a circle, with rooms branching out from each other. The Jewelry is, of course, beautiful - she had a strong design sense. There are several excellent areas on pottery - really explaining the sequencing of how it's made and the impact that Maria Martinez and her husband had on bringing back traditional practices. There's a range of items from rugs to furniture to sculpture...we loved it and you can see how much care they've put into each area. My absolute fav item is a letter that Millicent wrote to her son just shortly before she died and I wrote it down, I loved it so much! She talks about life in such a meaningful way. My favorite quote: "Life is absolutely beautiful if one will disassociate oneself from noise and talk and live it according to one's inner light." Seems like she was living today...make sure you see it when you visit. The gift store is great, with everything from books to jewelry to scarves to soap. The people working there are very friendly - all in all, this is a really nice place to visit when you're in Taos.

Yelp
Stunning & huge collections of textiles, turquoise jewelry & pottery - plus a special exhibit. But it became numbing after awhile - almost too much to take in. I thought the her-home-turned-museum would be set up with furniture, dishes, etc as she had lived there with the collections displayed through out. Its not - just big rooms with lots of glass cases in it. Despite going to several museums when we travel, I'm really not a 'museum person' - I like context. So this was a disappointing almost immediately. I was also surprised that quite a lot of the items on exhibit were additions to the museum - not her possessions - which changed the experience for me too. I thought the Museum of Indian Arts in Santa Fe did a better job of displaying native turquoise jewelry - sectioning it by functionality & age. This was just lots & lots of similar pieces. The Maria Martines pottery rooms were impressive as were the assorted pictures of her throughout her life & with her partners. The gift shops had enough jewelry designs to please anyone but the prices were super high. Nevertheless, I still wistfully think of a bracelet made by local artist Susan Backus of vintage turquoise charms & converted earrings. The route we took from Taos to the museum was through a widespread neighbor hood of fascinating & unusual adobe houses. A perk of the visit!

Yelp
Really nice museum. Of course amazing art work, textiles and sculptures. Give yourself at least one hour to see it at a leisurely pace. My favorite exhibit is her jewelry collection.

R L.

Yelp
I spent almost 2 hours here on my own. Not sure my husband would appreciate this museum as much as I did because my absolute favorite was the jewelry. So much amazing turquoise and silver on display. Millicent Rogers was one stylish woman. They have some of her own jewelry displayed and wow! Lots of pottery too along with information about the pottery and other arts such as Weavings and baskets. The house is also interesting to see. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is a sweet find. Millicent Roger's story is compelling and her personal collection of museum quality jewelry as well as the gallery's other collections are impressive. The ceramics are amazing and the artisan's stories are well told. Dropped in after the Rio Grande Gorge but the museum was the hit of the day.

Nicole H.

Yelp
Beautiful museum. My favorites were the jewelry and pottery exhibits. I learned something new. Breathtaking view of the mountains outside the museum too. Just don't try to use GPS to get here.

Yelp
I went to a special exhibit of wood block carvings, which gave me free admission plus some lovely snacks. I'm a big fan of snacks. Her jewelry collection is impressive and ornate. The collection of pottery is something that just blew me away. I had no idea that it was so well known or had been given congressional medal of honors for the family. It is a wonderful legacy that has been passed down through generations. I highly recommend stopping in when you get a chance if you are in Taos. Millicent Rogers worked tirelessly to get Native American artifacts recognized as art that needed to be preserved. She deserves a page in the history books as not only a great appreciator of art, but one who documented an entire culture through art, propelling local artists to recognition.

Yelp
True story- once my mom and I got in a fight and she left me here for hours. I managed to pass the time - Millicent was a pretty interesting type with the clothes, jewels, makeup (almost Dita Von Teese crossed with Georgia O'Keefe). My all time favorite part of the museum are the drawings she made for her kids. They are amazing/charming, and as a sign of mom-kid love, definitely helped soothe my wounded ego.

Yelp
I really loved coming here. Its small, but a great place to go while in Taos, or worth the drive North from Santa Fe. Millicent Rogers must have been some woman in her time. She seemed to listen to the sound of a different drummer. I think her influence in southwest style clothing and jewelry is felt today. Her collection is beyond amazing. I came away wanting to copy her taste since it was so good! If you want to see a big collection of Native Indian pottery or jewelry this is your place. Include the Millicent Rogers museum on your trip to Taos or Santa Fe.

Yelp
Powerfully motivating for the entrepreneurial woman, emphasis on Millicent's work. Worth the detour off 285.
