Millport Dairy was originally part of the Greenmarket vendors but have since opened their own brick and mortar location on the UWS, steps from the 96 St (1/2/3) station. The new space is small, but packs a ton of goodies like fresh eggs from both hens and ducks, loads of cheeses, butter, meats, pickled greens, baked goods, and soon produce (the shop currently has asparagus for $6/bunch but strawberries are coming next week)!
You'll also find some of the best and freshest eggs in NYC here. For $6/dozen, you get eggs with an incredible deep orange color, which speaks to the quality and care of the hens that produce them. There are several egg options, from regular hens to pullet hens ($4/dz) to Ameraucana hens ($9/dz) to ducks ($12/dz) as well.
The shop is run by Farmer John who is extremely knowledgable about all the products he sells. On my most recent visit, I also picked up a dozen pullet eggs, which he explained, are the first eggs laid by young hens so they are on the smaller side but contain more nutrients. He also recommended that I cook them lightly to retain said nutrients, preferably sunny side up.
I'm very excited that there is now a brick and mortar location for Millport Dairy in the city, and highly encourage you to stop by during their opening hours (Wed-Sat, 7a-4p) for excellent quality goods from a family-run Amish farm.
