Where to Stay in Tokyo When You Visit in 2025

"The rooms here are extra-large — some with four futon beds and others with kitchens and dining tables — and I appreciated the bathrobes and slippers and the hotel's extremely convenient location near Ueno." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Tokyo (Updated 2025)

"As part of a Japanese apartment-hotel chain that’s perfect for long stays, the Ueno Okachimachi location is ideal because you’re mere steps from the biggest and best museums in the city. Units sleep up to six people and each has a kitchen with a cooktop, sink, electric tea pot, microwave, fridge, and basic kitchenware like pans, cutlery, and cutting boards; you can also rent extra appliances such as a rice cooker or toaster. There’s no restaurant or breakfast on-site since it’s an apartment-hotel. The spaces are designed in a traditional Japanese style with a contemporary feel—firm futon beds, a dining area, closet, safety deposit box, flatscreen TV, humidifier, and air purifier. The bathrooms are sleek and laid out so the tub/shower is in a separate room from the toilet (which has a bidet), and the sink is separate as well. It’s a convenient and affordable choice for families or groups of friends." - Matthew Kepnes

100 points for this stay in Okachimachi, if you travel with family! It is near to a metro and a subway station, in walking distance to Akihabara and Ueno park, next to the hotel are plenty of restaurants and shops, so dont worry the hotel do not offer breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they have a lots of recommendations for sightseeing, restaurants and shops. Honestly, it is our first time that we had so good contact to hotel staff, very pleasant, especially with the kids! When you travel with kids, we really can recommend to stay here. They offer a small kids play lounge with traditional japanese toys and offer a Bingo game (discover the area around the hotel and collect points) and win wonderful and useful toy(s) our son (7 years) really loved it! |The hotel is good to find, at the top of the hotel you can read the name in a far distance when you arrive in JR train station Okachimachi, it is only a 5 minute walk. |The hotelroom is very spacious for Japanese hotels, we had lots of space and it is very clean. We had a room with little kitchen and fridge, very convenient. It was quiet and the bathroom also very comfortable. We appreciated also to have laundry and dryer at the basement floor. |We as a family loved to stay here and we hopefully may be coming back one day to this wonderful location. We wish all the best for the wonderful staff of the hotel, who are making its best efforts everyday :)

We had a fantastic experience at this hotel. It was super family friendly and the rooms were quite spacious. Very clean and nice facilities. The rooms came with refrigerator and kitchenette that was very useful. There are other amenities that are available upon request (iron, toaster). The onsite laundry was very helpful and allowed us to travel light. Staff was super helpful and friendly.

This is our 3rd time staying at the Mimaru chain of hotels on our 3rd visit to Japan. It’s nice to have a separate washroom/shower from the toilet at every location we’ve stayed at. We are usually traveling as a group of 5+ people so it’s nice to have the space to move around and to be able to pack and open our suitcases with relative ease compared to other hotels. Recommended to all I know traveling to Japan!

Great stay for 6 nights. Excellent location, trains easy to everywhere. Service is excellent - very helpful and friendly. We are family of 4 with adult sized kids, so got the 4 single bed room, so we all had a proper bed. Is compact, but perfect. Complete with mini kitchen to make our morning coffee and boil eggs. Room service was fine, rubbish emptying daily. Washing machine room worked well and we didn't have problems accessing machines. Plenty of convenience stores around to buy our breakfast and good shopping. A little bit of quiet in crazy tokyo, but nice and close to the action. Footpaths in this area are nice and wide, which matters to me as I have a physical disability. Would stay again

Lovely Mimaru chain hotel with very friendly staff. The room is cosy but well appointed. We had a family room with 2 beds and a bunk bed for the kids. Packing light is useful in general in Japan as there’s never much space for suitcases etc. We made use of the coin laundry and the reception staff helped us forward our bags using the Yamato service which was really useful. |We found the hotel to be well located for public transport and there were plenty of nice restaurants around to try out and cheap street food along the railway line towards Ueno station. We found a cute little pancake cafe a few doors down called Usagi-ya. We had to be there just before 9 am and they served us a set menu with delicious pancakes with butter and red bean paste.

Lovely family apartment has 4 beds and big enough to fit our luggages for conservative travelers. Room is clean, surprisingly quiet, and has a dining area. There’s no view though. Location is close by restaurants, markets/small businesses, convenient stores, and subway stations. The hotel staffs are bilingual to help overcome our language barriers. It was a memorable retreat. Will definitely stay at Mimaru again. Thank you!

Our stay was amazing! The hotels location is central with multiple Lawson’s, Family Marts and restaurents nearby. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and organised multiple activities at the lobby. There are also Toasters that were available for use which the staff could lend to you, which definitely made our breakfast better. The room had all the necessities and they all functioned as expected. Only complaint is that the pillows are rather flat.

My family stayed at Mimaru Tokyo Ueno for five days. It was a great base for all our sightseeing seeing. I’m especially thankful for the staffs recommendations and help booking restaurants and activities. Also one staff member’s knowledge of the local music scene was instrumental in a few really great outings! And my kids really enjoyed their lobby games and toys. We will return!
