Really charming small hotel, with a great staff. Not as modern as it could be, but that added to the charm. Our room and bed were very comfortable. The old-fashioned shower was a bit of work. |And they had the best breakfast we had in three weeks in Morocco!

An absolute oasis in a wonderful city. From the moment we stepped through the doors off the busy street, we felt calm and instantly knew this was somewhere special. Mimi Calpe is more than a place to stay; it’s an experience. The whole property is beautifully and thoughtfully designed, with layers of charm and atmosphere that make you feel like you’ve stepped into 1920s French-era Morocco in the best possible way. Every corner of the property has character, with stunning architecture, lush gardens, and artistic details everywhere you look. Our kids were enchanted. They loved searching for the resident turtles in the garden and spotting all the hidden wall art around the buildings. It became its own mini-adventure. We had a beautiful family dinner in the courtyard under soft glowing lamps, a magical setting, and spent relaxed afternoons by the pool between exploring the medina and city sights. It felt both peaceful and exciting at once. A huge thank you to the team for such a memorable stay. We would come back in a heartbeat.

I rarely go back to the same hotel/lodging, but after a first visit in 2018, I couldn’t stop dreaming of my time at the Mimi Calpe. What’s not to love? The converted villa has beautiful classic rooms, the decor is a mix of early 19th century architecture and design with modern art. It’s clean, it’s quiet in an otherwise noisy city. The pool with its views over the harbor, and the gardens throughout the villa are stunning. There’s even a private hammam (thank you Zorah for the great treatment!). But the absolute best part of our stay (I went with two girl friends) was the staff. Karim is an amazing host and chef, and Youseff (and all the youseffs!) feel like friends now. Very kind, attentive, professional and genuine. Three days wasn’t enough.

Mimi Calpe Tanger – Beauty undermined by neglect||Despite its hectic location near the harbour—with its dusty street life and the pungent smells drifting over from the nearby fish market—Mimi Calpe Tanger is, at first glance, an oasis of calm and lush greenery amongst the chaos. The gardens that climb the hill are charmingly arranged: shady terraces with sofas, a lovely pool area, and even a treehouse room perched at the top. On arrival, we were welcomed warmly by the friendly young staff, offered coffee while waiting for our room, and given a pleasant tour explaining the history of the place.||Sadly, the experience ends there.||Our room, the Casita halfway up the garden slope, looked inviting at first—but stepping inside revealed a strong smell of damp and mildew, masked only by a large fan left running at full blast. We initially assumed this was a temporary consequence of cleaning and the city’s humidity, and hoped it would air out while we explored the city.||On returning later in the evening, the situation had become clearer—and worse. The room had a persistent, overpowering stench of sewage rising from the drains in the bathroom and toilet. The smell was unmistakable, and frankly unbearable. We called the night manager, who to his credit came quickly—and then admitted, quite openly, that they have daily complaints about the Casita’s plumbing and humidity, but that the French owner refuses to invest in repairs, preferring to keep renting the room as is.||It was now after midnight, and we were offered a different room up the hill in a wooden hut—but given the steep climb, the late hour, and the mosquitoes already inside the Casita, we declined. We spent the night trying to sleep with the doors open, the fan roaring, and mosquitoes for company.||The next morning brought the nicest part of our stay: a homemade breakfast of fresh local breads in the peaceful garden. But when we tried to discuss the issue with the manager, we were told he was out. Eventually, by insisting, we spoke by phone—only to hear, once again, that the owner knows about the sewage problem, but considers it acceptable because “some guests complain and some don’t.”||It is hard to overstate how disappointing this attitude is. The property itself is lovely, with obvious care in its design and setting. But knowingly renting out a room that reeks of sewage and pretending it’s just part of the charm is, frankly, unacceptable—especially at this price point.||In the end, you’re left with the sense that once you’ve paid and stayed, the hotel feels its obligation is over—and your discomfort doesn’t really matter because you’re unlikely to return.||Mimi Calpe Tanger "could be" a truly special place. But until the owner decides that guest comfort matters as much as the garden’s beauty, at least one room will remain uninhabitable—and the whole experience sadly overshadowed by neglect.||With so many other lovely riads and hotels in Tanger, avoid risking ruining your visit and simply choose another place to stay.

I enjoyed a very relaxing 1 week break at Mimi Calpe at the end of May 2025, as a solo female traveller. I had a separate cottage room with shower room, with very comfortable bed. There no place to hang or put away clothes except for 2 hooks, so you'll be living out of your suitcase. A bit of a smell from the pipes, but probably little they can do about it. Otherwise, a very charming 19th century property with beautiful gardens, lots of nooks where you can read and write and a lovely pool. Great breakfasts. Would recommend eating out at night. Location is fantastic -- just a 5 minute walk from Place Avril 9 and an easy 15 minute walk to great sites, the medina and restaurants. Definitely recommend. Excellent place for solo female travellers. Felt very safe and comfortable and well taken care of by Youssef and Kareem.

Arriving at the Mimi Calpe off the busy Rue de La Plage is entering a magic world of lush greenery and old fashioned charm. It was a peaceful haven to return to after a day in the city. |The bedrooms are spacious and filled with antique furniture, but if you like modern , international style hotels this would not be for you.|The garden is absolutely beautiful, there are plentiful seating areas, and a fabulous pool with sunbeds and adjacent seating areas.|Best of all was the staff, who are so friendly and helpful, we can recommend dinner in the hotel, delicious food and very personal service.|Already looking forward to a second visit some time in the future I hope, I don’t think there could be a more special place in all of Tangier!

It was a beautiful and idillic colonial residence. The reception by the host was great. Breakfast and dinner was very good. Staff was very helpful and took good care of us. A driver service was very flexible and took us where we wanted to go last minute. A wonderful oasis in a hectic city.
