Mindel Hotel

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel, thanks to the support and helpfulness of the entire team. From check-in to departure, everyone was attentive and ensured we had a great experience.||A special thank you to Kelia Correira for going above and beyond to help us catch our flight to another island. She was incredibly attentive, genuinely concerned about our situation, and did everything possible to assist us, even arranging a last-minute taxi.|Her patience and dedication made all the difference, and we truly appreciate it.|Additionally, the restaurant exceeded our expectations—the food was excellent, and the service was outstanding.|Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so pleasant.

First I would like to thank the staff and Mindel Hotel for taking care of quite a few passengers stuck in Mindelo for four days due to the recent bruma seca (dust storm) that shut the airport down. The staff worked unfailingly hard, provided reasonable meals, and attempted to provide us whatever information TAP Air Portugal cared to give them about our status (very little, but that’s another story). An extra “star” for the staff is warranted here.||||As for the hotel itself – it has seen better days. The hotel was certainly clean, but the lift was not working the entire time we were there – in a seven-story hotel this can be a bit of a problem! The wifi is literally the worst I’ve found at any hotel I’ve ever stayed at that offered it – despite staying on the floor immediately above reception, and right at the center, the wifi dropped constantly and in fact typically required me to be right in the room’s doorway to get any sort of signal. Because of my situation with having to continually revise onward travel plans this was extremely frustrating. It was marginally better in the lobby. Do note that almost all construction in Mindelo is concrete block and that will affect signal strength; that said I had much better service elsewhere. Had I known I’d be in Mindelo for as long as it turned out I’d have used the SIM card they hand you at the airport – CV Telecom is immediately across the street!||||The hotel has an enclosed rooftop pool and outside deck; these unfortunately were not available during my stay despite being over the New Year’s holiday. The rooftop deck would have been a lovely place for a drink or a lounge chair as it has a fabulous view of Mindelo.||||The hotel’s location is excellent – “downtown” Mindelo is tiny so this applies to most locations – it should be noted that the pleasant square across the street is a popular late-night meeting place and can be a bit loud until about midnight (part of Mindelo’s charm is that it is a late night city with many entertainment options). The rooms were quiet, however, and mine was on that side. Beds were quite firm with minimal mattress depth but that seems to be par for the course in this part of the world. The bathroom was clean and everything worked – toiletries were at best average. There are a couple of Fregata “supermarkets” within a block that will meet your needs for toiletries.||||Due to the kindness of the staff I do hope that there are plans to enhance the hotel experience at Mindel Hotel – Mindelo is seeing a bit of a boom in new hotel construction and they will need to do so in order to keep up.

Convenient location but wasn’t quite prepared for the street noise the first two nights. The noise grew on me as I️ started understanding the culture. |Nice staff, easy to get around from this hotel. |The beds are rather tiny and almost on the floor 😳. Bathroom very small but I️ made my self comfortable for my stay. I️ simply said , what the heck ! |I️ know for sure I️ will return to Sao Vincente over and over again. I️ went to explore the island and not the hotel so I️ stayed focus on the treats of this lovely, stress free island. ||

Absolutely not worth the price. Everything is damaged. WiFi is not working. Toilet is terrible (the lid does not open all the way). You can not lock the doors, and there is no Safe available. There are no outlets at the Bed...and so on its crazy how this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel for this price. We have been in way better apartments and hostels for less money.

The hotel is really worn out. Screams for renovation. Meanwhile everything is clean and ok, just very worn out. The bathroom is very very old fashioned and not everything works properly. No hairdryer. The deposit box in the room was broken. Perfect location, near the harbour and city center. Very good restaurant (one of the best in town). Breakfast was poor.

Room 101: Lights that did not work, no TV remote, no shampoo, pillows were hard AF, and overall just a poorly maintained room💡 Service: lol 🚫 Location: Close to pubs and restaurants 🤙🏼WiFi was not stable 🛜

Hotel location is perfect. Food and services are great. Room is good but can be better. It was my first time in Mindelo and it was a very memorable experience especially coming from the other side of the world. . . .that was my trip in January 2021. . .

I would rate Mindel as a mean rate hotel, whatever this means.|It is clean and located downtown which making it attractive for businesses trip. |Don’t have great expectations. It is a legit hotel for stay and meals. Nothing more nothing less.
