Chiang Mai Is the Center of Thailand's Coffee Universe

"A striking, white modern space with architectural flourishes reportedly inspired by Frank Gehry that marries design with serious specialty coffee. The cafe emphasizes education—featuring deconstructed flavor-wheel decor—and delivers a multi-sensory experience: orders come with tasting cards detailing origin, processing, brew method, barista, water temperature and service date, and brews are sometimes served in a wine glass with a lid to preserve aroma and heat." - Lauren Mowery

This café is located right by the roadside in the Old Quarter, and the design — from the exterior to the interior — is truly impressive. The coffee is excellent, with a good selection of slow bar brews and specialty coffee options. The carrot cake was delicious, just the right amount of sweetness. The space is well thought out, with seating available in front of the shop, inside, and in a sunny backyard area. The restroom is clean and odor-free, which we really appreciated. Staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about specialty coffee.

Now one of our new favorite coffee places in Chiang Mai!! Chiang Mai is full of some amazing spots for coffee lovers, so if you want an amazing coffee come and try one at Ministry of Roasters. Such a vibe when you walk in! Great variety of coffee to choose from and they are super knowledgeable on bean choice so let them help you chose. Today I had the best and I mean the very best flat white I have ever had...those vanilla and whiskey tones will stay stuck in my memory for a very long time! They also have a great range of merchandise, ranging from posters to cool as t-shirts to coffee tumblers and cupping spoons! Awesome friendly service from the team as well, they know their stuff. Thank you for the experience and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

Our next coffee stop : Ministry of Roasters. Such a superb in-store experience! They even have a whole education wall about aromas that you can take your time to explore. We ordered two cups: Palad and Palad’s Wife (different blends, different beans). Really enjoyed both, each had a distinct flavour profile, and you can truly taste the character of the beans. Plus, the milk texture was just perfect. Definitely will be back for more! ☕✨

An experience like no other! If you want to get an education in coffee, go here. You will walk out a master after having the best coffee of your life. I’m an Ethiopian bean snob and they had a variety of regions and roasts.

Incredible location, awe inspiring design, staff is about as qualified one can be(I think everyone is a Q-grader for arabica and some even for robusta), very very friendly, a joy to talk about coffee. The level of advanced techniques they go for is incredible. Experimental ways to prepare/serve coffee, combined with a ton of different roasts, beans, flavor profiles makes this place welcoming to every kind of pallette. Prices reflect the quality of beans and craftmanship. Equipment is of the highest tiers and quality. If you want to be blown away with an unforgettable coffee experience, give it a go. Genuinely the best cups of coffee I ever had in my life

One of the best coffee houses I’ve been to in my life. They have amazing roasts and a wide variety to choose from. They really know their stuff and make the perfect espresso. My wife had an espresso shot and I had the cappuccino. Staff were warm and welcoming and helped us navigate their many options. The place had a great atmosphere too, with a clean scientific feel to it, like you’re in a coffee lab, but relaxing and welcoming. They also had tons of information on their coffees and the coffee growing process in general posted on their walls which was interesting to read. Will be back again for sure. EDIT: my wife and I ended up coming back every day of our visit (it’s that worth it) and tried all of the espresso (except 2). They were all fantastic and we’d recommend trying them all. Our favorites were the Director, the Palad, and the Secretary though and we walked away with bags of each. The signature drinks all looked delicious too but we didn’t try any (we were too infatuated with the espresso). I should also note that they won a ton of awards and it’s easy to see why.

The best iced cappuccino—hands down. You’ll only find this magic in Southeast Asia. Traditionally, cappuccino foam and ice are a big no-no (some say it’s sacrilege in the coffee world). But here? They nailed it. This isn’t just an iced latte with foam slapped on top—it’s thick, creamy, and textured just like a real cappuccino, only cold. Exactly how it should be!
