If you are looking for deep relaxation, and thinking a hot mineral spa near Joshua Tree & Palm Springs might be the ticket, this is the place to head to. Intimate, quiet, mid-century decor, nice hosts, good breakfasts...I love this place.
The pools are 104 and 90°F, and the bigger pool is large enough to float in for hours. Folks who come here range all over the map, some younger, some older, almost all professional, capable and interesting to chat with. This resort is a bit more intimate than others, since almost everyone meets at breakfast and there is a 3-day minimum stay. So you may get to know your neighbors. However there is a ton of peace and quiet, and it's easy to spend a day reading and soaking without striking up a conversation if you just need major down time. The current caretaker, Pat, is friendly, helpful and direct. You are likely to run into folks who are mature, thoughtful and experienced in a variety of professional fields. People do come out to Miracle for extended stays once in a while, working on major projects or just getting major down time.
There are eight rooms, some with kitchens. Decor is sparse, but there are working surfaces in most rooms, plus very comfortable beds and quality linens. This is a quiet place, so there is no TV, no music outside but good free wifi internet. Air conditioning and heating are both fairly quiet. Plan on barefoot time; everyone takes shoes off indoors, and the nice outside walking surfaces don't require anything on your feet.
There is a solid breakfast with coffee & tea, yogurt, granola, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and a variety of baked goods and preserves each morning. Pat plays jazz and classical in the dining area, so it feels warm and informal. We found it easy to bring a cooler full of food and fix our lunches and dinners, although you might want to bring your own sharp knife or particular cooking devices, as the cookware is rather minimal. Rooms with kitchens come with tableware for two, plus basic pots, pans and utensils. Stoves are gas, with oven, and refrigerators are full size, so it's not hard to prepare something fancy. A gas grill may be available, if you ask. Rooms 4, 5 and 6 all overlook the desert and Palm Springs to the south. By the way, there is an interesting collection of books on site, so it's not hard to find something to read if you want.
Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Pioneer Town and other attractions are not far away. Cabot's Pueblo Museum is right across the street, and Rhonda, the bodyworker who comes to do massages, is superb. Check it out, this place is a treasure.
