Miraflores Visitor's Center

Nice facilities, with a movie theater and a deck to see the ships crossing the channel, but lacks a deeper historical overview about the political, environmental and financial consequences of the construction.

Crossing the Panama Canal was a truly wonderful experience. The engineering, the history, and the scenic views made it unforgettable. A must-visit for anyone who loves travel and adventure!

The movie tells the Canals history and “how Americans are good” lol. Just do not seat in first row! It’s a great engineering build but it needs more information about how the visit works, like vessels chart or any important information.

Very cool to see the canal in action! You can get tickets through an app, but honestly it's easier to just go buy them at the counter. You then go through a gift shop and can walk up to an outdoor (but covered) viewing deck to watch the ships pass. Note that you need to go at specific times to ensure you actually see ships as the Canal is Pacific to Atlantic at some times and the reverse at others.

We arrived at the perfect time in the afternoon to watch 4 shops pass through the canal. It was fun to watch the ships go through the lock and dam process and learn about the process as well. The top observation deck is the best place to view the activity, and it can be packed with visitors. Be patient and eventually you will get to be close to the action. The IMAX video is also worth watching as it provides the history of the canal. We purchased our tickets online in advance of arriving, which I highly recommend.

Everyhting is a big tourist trap. There are only 3 shops if u want food or drinks, one of them run out of Pepsi softdrinks already for 3 days and then u are only able to buy alcoholic beverages. The pizza was almost 10 dollar for a small 4 slice pizza. Rather bring your own food. The visiting platform was quite full during the first ship embarking in the afternoon

The Miraflores Visitor Center is a must-see experience in Panama! The IMAX show was a highlight—beautifully produced and incredibly informative about the history and engineering of the Panama Canal. It really brings the whole experience to life. The visitor center itself is well-organized, with great exhibits and viewing platforms to watch the canal in action. The souvenir shop is one of the best I’ve seen—plenty of unique, high-quality items to take home. Entry fee was $17.22, which felt like excellent value for everything included. Highly recommend for visitors of all ages!

I wasn’t expecting much from this however it was the highlight of our short stint in Panama City - especially the IMAX movie narrated by Morgan Freeman. It’s a 45 minute movie that runs every hour and is included in the $17 ticket price for foreigners. You can also see the cargo ships using the lock by going to the viewing deck. There is also a shipping schedule you can check - vessel finder I think?? - so that you time your visit in line with being able to see ships pass. I have heard the most active period for ship traffic is in the morning but don’t quote me on that. All in all, a really brillant activity to witness one of the biggest industries in Panama. Oh and the only disappointing thing was that the actual museum in the visitor centre is undergoing renovation at the moment and so is the Panama Canal Museum in the old town.
