Being from California, I've found it surprisingly hard to find decent sushi in Europe. This restaurant isn't the best but it was good given that there are such few Japanese option in Venice. It's tucked away inside of a hotel but it had outdoor seating that would offer nice views of the Grand Canal. It was a rainy day so we were not able to sit outside.
They are open earlier in the day only for drinks and serve food from 7-11pm.
We had the 18 piece mixed sushi, spicy salmon roll, tuna 6 piece sashimi, 2 miso soups and a bottle of water. Grand total came out to 58€.
They gave us a complimentary appetizer of cooked & fried tuna chunks with what tasted like a rice vinaigrette on shredded lettuce. Nice little starter... The salmon is a safe choice, good cuts and tasted fairly fresh. The tuna was decent but not as fresh as the salmon. Miso soup was great, the seaweed was perfectly silky in it.
The sushi is a little overpriced but the ambience of the restaurant is upscale & there's not much competition in the area, so I totally understand. Also, I'm not sure how much they have to import versus what they have available from their local fish markets.
Overall, a nice change of pace after being overloaded with pasta & pizza!
