Yelp
Our travel agent booked this hotel for our 3 night stay in Rio.
LOCATION:
More towards the southern end of Copacabana Beach, as oceanfront as you can get.
ATMOSPHERE:
The city hotel rises about 15 levels high. The lobby is small and includes the reception desk which also handles concierge needs, a tiny bar that was never occupied and the main restaurant.
On the rooftop is a small rectangular pool with a two-level bar that sports gorgeous views of Copacabana Beach & Sugarloaf Mountain. A tiny gym included some treadmills, one or two weight machines and a sauna.
SERVICE:
José David checked us in, gave great info on included daily breakfast, WiFi, etc. Other staff were helpful with restaurant recommendations and currency exchange, though some weren't too smiley.
I forgot the name of the male associate who checked us out, but he was very professional and prompt.
Hostess greeting at the breakfast buffet was always smiley and welcoming.
Bellman service was top notch.
ROOM:
Our view was ocean front, though there are no balconies, only pop-open windows. The room was very clean and quiet, a/c & free WiFi were strong and the king bed comfy. Pillows were a little flat. Free bottled water was given upon request. A mini bar was available but I didn't see a price list. The flat TV had one English language program which was CNN. A small safe was available and easy to operate.
BATHROOM:
Loved it! The shower water pressure was strong, as were the toilet, bidet and sink. The hot water took a while to come on for a 6:30am shower one day but was problem free otherwise. Bath amenities were subtly fragranced. A powerful hair dryer was available. My only complaint we're about the towels, which were so new and fluffy that they never dried us or itself nicely. I could at times smell a strong bleach odor coming from the tap water. Though we used it to shower and brush our teeth, we drank from the bottle.
BREAKFAST BUFFET:
Wow, what a spread! From breads, cheeses, fruits and cereals, to an omelette station, waffles and pancakes. Food quality was good as was the service. Located in the restaurant on the lobby level.
ROOFTOP BAR:
Gorgeous views yet dead slow. If this place were in Anywhere, USA it'd be full of vivacious youngens. Oh well, better for us! Drink prices were fair.
TIPS:
Uber is widely available in Rio and insanely affordable compared to the US. Rides at any time of day to popular attractions ranged from $5 to $7. Take advantage!
Need drop-off laundromat service? Check out Lavanderia Mordomia, two blocks south of the hotel on a side street (R. Francisco Sá). Affordable and our clothes came back clean, neatly folded and in great shape.
Late night dinner? Head to El Born, a few blocks north on a safe side street. We had a great meal. Open till 1am.
A pharmacy and drug store are located on the same block west of the hotel along Av. Nosa Sra. de Copacabana. I needed emergency OTC medication and got it fulfilled.
Try to pay with cash. My credit card got compromised while in Rio and I'm not sure where it happened, so this tip appears on all my reviews where I paid with it.
OVERALL:
Nice accommodations, good location.
