Mirbeau Inn & Spa

"How did it strike you on arrival?Although Mirbeau is only a two-minute car ride outside of downtown Skaneateles, once you're on the grounds, you'll feel like you've escaped to Europe. Think golden buildings (which look like Provençal cottages) with overflowing flower boxes and blue-painted windows, clustered in a garden with its very own Monet bridge and koi pond. The interior is just as charming—the bar area looks like someone’s home library, peppered with cushy sofas and bookshelves. Everything feels cozy and quiet, the ideal environment for a destination spa. Nice. What’s the crowd like?A mix of couples in the area for wine tastings, and groups of friends escaping to the spa for a weekend—there was also a wedding one night, tucked back in the gardens under a lighted tent. Guests were low-key and kept to themselves. How was check in? Checking in and out was seamless, thanks to very attentive staff—we entered our room to find a bottle of champagne (we were there for a birthday weekend), and soothing meditation music playing from a speaker. Tech was easy to use, from the light fixtures to the aromatherapy diffuser. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.I booked a king room, which had a plush, perfectly soft bed, a working fireplace, and—behind double doors—a huge bathroom, with a shower, double vanity, and oversized claw-foot tub. The decor is in step with the French countryside theme: dark wood furniture, matching patterned bedspreads and curtains, wooden beams on the ceiling, and pastoral paintings on the wall. But there’s also all the necessary modern comforts, like a flatscreen and Bose sound system. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? All of Mirbeau’s in-room amenities—from the luxe spa robes you’re encouraged to wear around the property, down to the aromatherapy diffuser which moonlights as an alarm clock—make it clear this resort is all about relaxation. Bedside sweets are a mix of lavender and blackcurrant dark chocolate (for calm), and milk mixed with orange and valerian (for sleep); there’s bath butlers on call if you want an aromatic...well, bath. Even a scented pillow menu (yes, really). No detail is left unaccounted for. Room service and food: Worth it?There’s an on-site restaurant and bar (both impressive), as well as the Aqua Terrace, which serves light snacks and aperitivos by the outdoor jacuzzi. Breakfast isn’t included with your room, but definitely worth ordering at least once during your stay (I’m still thinking about my monte cristo). If you’re having a day in, all sorts of room service options are available—there’s a “Truffles & Port” menu for $38, with house-made truffles. Just saying. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?The spa staff is excellent; one of my best massages to date. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Obviously, you’re going to come here for the spa—and it more than lives up to the hype. Stairs down from the lobby will lead you to the wellness complex, which takes up the entire bottom floor: complete with a gym and exercise studio (free yoga classes are included with spa treatments), the spa facilities, and a shop where you can buy the branded products (I recommend the blood orange and mint moisturizer). After checking in and a quick pit stop in the changing room, you’ll find yourself in the resting room—a dimly lit, tech-free space with lounge chairs grouped around a heated foot pool. If you’ve booked a spa treatment, you’ll wait here until a staff member comes to get you—though, considering how blissfully quiet it is, you’ll be hard-pressed to leave. Treatments range from deep tissue massages to “Monet’s Favorite Fragrance Massages” (a scented Swedish massage) and intraceutical facials. Afterwards, head outside to the Aqua Terrace to soak in the heated whirlpool (and grab a drink, while you’re at it), or return to the locker room for a (Eucalyptus-scented) steam room session. Once you’re ready to leave, the latter comes stocked with toiletries—deodorant, hair ties, mouthwash—so you’re ready to go right to your next plans. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Absolutely. I've never felt so refreshed at the end of a vacation—normally, I'm stressed at the thought of having to drive home, or pack. But after three days at Mirbeau (and one incredible deep tissue massage), I was already ready to plan my next trip back. This is a must for people in need of an indulgent long weekend." - Bridget Hallinan

I went with my wife for valentines Day dinner, and it was the perfect place to pick. They had a valentines Day menu, which was a nice surprise. The servers and staff were amazing and very knowledgeable, and I even went early before my reservation time just so I could relax in their library/bar with my wife before we ate. I can't wait to go back, and I know it won't be hard to find a reason.

Not sure why there are so many negative comments about this beautiful Quaint Inn. The décor and feel of this Inn is a French/Country style and so relaxing and romantic. Yes, there are signs of ‘use’ on some of the Lounge area furniture, but nothing major or anything to complain about. ||Upon arrival we received a glass of champagne & the Front desk staff were great. Our room was ready an hour early, we were in Room 123 with the most beautiful view of the pond & gardens and also the Cottages across the pond. Soo pretty. We received a complimentary bottle of champagne in the room for a special birthday. Ask for a room on the second floor so you can enjoy this view. ||The staff and service was wonderful at Mirabeau. Be aware of the Bistro & wine restaurant on site. It’s overpriced and the quality & portion of our $54!!! scallop meal & was NOT good. In hindsight, I would have ordered their $28 Burger as I heard that was good. |Overall, our stay at Mirabeau was really nice. Sadly, the restaurant does not allow me to give this place 5 Stars. |

Our company holiday gift this year was a visit to the spa. We were able to get all 25 of our staff in on Thursday morning the scheduler accommodated all our treatment requests. The spa is beautiful and we all enjoyed the amenities. We arranged to have lunch together after our treatments and everything was very tasty and we even had a private room! Highly recommend Mirabeau for a day of pampering even for a large group like ours.

I went for the first time in December 2023, I had received a gift certificate for a special occasion. I took me about a year to use it because I needed to book about 3 months in advance. I had the best facial of my life with Sheena, the Biotec Skin Soother. She was fabulous!!. I also had a pedicure and massage. I will definitely be going back again soon.

The spa was smaller and more crowded than expected. It seemed a bit banged up...scratches on doors, floors and the woman's locker room floor was a bit dirty. Also, the space seemed small but did have a very good amount of lotions, shampoo, towels etc. Another downfall was there was only a small changing room and 2 small showers. Frankly, for the price I was surprised. I would like to add that the heated whirlpool spa was a great relaxing experience. We loved it but then the glass of wine I purchased was $17, a little steep. In fact, for the price I feel a complimentary glass would be most welcome and good business. My massage was relaxing and I enjoyed it.

My mother and I came for a visit to Mirbeau recently while I was on fall break as a student at Syracuse university and had the absolute most wonderful time. We originally came for just lunch, and were astonished by the beautiful view of the Monet garden. The staff were incredible, clearly trained in fine dining experience. The focaccia brought before the meal was delicious. Mirbeau equips people seated outdoors with ingenious heat lamps so that you stay perfectly cozy while enjoying the view. My mother then surprised me that afternoon after with a trip to the spa and a massage there. I love the robes with their fuzzy interiors and the nice quality sandals provided. The staff were kind enough to show us around the spa since it was our first time. We especially enjoyed the “quiet room”. It’s beautiful, and you feel as though you’re in an ancient Roman bathhouse. My mom and I have been to over 14 European countries together; The entire day we kept commenting on how we felt like we had been transported to France for a day. The interior design is tastefully French and elegant without looking kitschy or fake. Our massages were lovely- the only thing I could have asked for was that they could go on forever! I did not want to leave Mirbeau. We have decided to make this business a yearly fall tradition. Thank you Mirbeau!!!!

If you want to impress someone, stay here. It is romantic and atmospheric. It is unique. It is like staying in a French village overlooking Monet's bridge and gardens. It has one of the best spas in the eastern US. Its relaxation room is like going back to ancient Rome. It is special and so relaxing! The best facial that my wife or I have ever received is from Katie - request her- we do every time we visit! On these cold days use the water terrace pool heated to 106 degrees and both locker rooms have wet & dry saunas to beat the cold. I love the water terrace with the falling snow and its roaring fireplace! You can have breakfast & lunch in the dining room in your spa robe! The dining room is elegant and tasteful and completely unhurried. Try the perfectly prepared halibut and finish with the best ever crème brulee. Ed makes the world's best manhattans and there is a great wine list for Ed or Jon, the F&B Director, to help you with. The dining staff, like all the staff here, are well trained, professional and love their jobs. People here put you and your needs first. They respect you and treat you right. in the winter, request a room in the Main building with a garden view. At night, with the snow and ice and lights, Monet's gardens and bridge twinkle like a sea of diamonds. Jose and Natalie will take care of your needs at the front desk where you can request evening turn down service for your French country room. The rooms are functional and tastefully and classically furnished with a cozy fireplace, super comfortable bed, darkening curtains and great products in the room and in the locker room which is basically a private club. Now you can appreciate why we stay here 3 or 4 times each and every year! The Mirbeau is all about relaxation.

Overall, we were extremely disappointed, disenchanted and underwhelmed by the entire experience. I understand that Mirbeau is highly regarded locally (I even saw a placard that said it was a top resort in the world in 2023 according to Forbes), however, in comparison to other places we often visit (Fairmont hotels, Omni hotels, even Kimpton hotels), this visit was very disappointing given the price we were paying.||I wanted to tell you our experience in the hopes you can use it to improve for others. We will not be returning, but perhaps this constructive criticism can be used positively.||Some specifics:||Overall the service in the dining area was underwhelming. On two different occasions we sat down in the Salon area by the fire and waited for over 20 minutes before I had to approach the bar to ask for service, menus, etc.||On one occasion we were told we had to wait 25 minutes to even place a food order. That service took over 2 hours to complete.||The floor of the salon by the fire was dirty, with food all over it. The wheels on the chairs provided a bit of a nuisance versus a stable sitting arrangement.||Meomi, at $22/bottle, should not be $16/glass. That's simply outrageous.||The food in general was extremely disappointing. On our final day, our steak frites seemed like it came from a diner. The steak was grey and looked like a discount steak from Aldi's. Our whipped brie was vastly different than previous days. Service in general was extremely slow.||When we arrived to grab a late breakfast (at 10:45), we were told the kitchen is closed and we had to wait until 11:45 to get into the lunch service. We were offered "fruit" from a bowl from the Spa as consolation. At a $700/night resort, it confuses me as to why there aren't options for us despite time of day. Waiting to eat for 45 minutes defeated the purpose of our stay.||When we asked housekeeping to do the room, our bags had been packed and moved, creating concern about the safety of our items. I have actually never seen this happen in all of my travels. This was confusing and concerning.||The shower was unfortunately small and not ideal to have to touch what appeared to be a dirty shower curtain multiple times during a shower.||The bathroom floor was very slippery, even with bare feet. We had to resort to putting the non-slip bath mat over the most slippery part. It was concerning and dangerous. I would imagine we are not the only patrons who have mentioned this, thus putting your hotel at risk of a liability suit.||When we asked for a late checkout, originally we were told no. Again, at other luxury resorts and the rate we are paying, I have never been told no to a late checkout, especially a checkout on a Monday afternoon. Fortunately, the fellow at the desk did finally grant us the extra hour.||When we went to the Spa we were told that there were no available treatments to schedule. Looking back, I would assume or hope that upon making a stay reservation, someone at Mirbeau would call or email to explain that the Spa would/can get busy and to schedule ahead of time. Again, this was a first, as every Fairmont I have been to has available treatments to be scheduled upon walk-in. To go to a spa/hotel and not be able to use the spa was disappointing.||One other guest, whom we didn't and don't know, mentioned she cut herself in the spa and bled everywhere. That was alarming to hear, true or not.||I'd also add that, as out of towners, we didn't have a car, so when we asked for a shuttle to town (something very common in resorts), we were given a taxi card, who told us that he is booked and usually books days in advance. We had to walk to town each time, producing blisters on Lindsey's feet, forcing us to buy band aids and even a new pair of shoes.||A 3 minute shuttle to town should either be provided or you should tell guests prior to arrival.||Overall, I am extremely disappointed in our experience, especially given the price paid. We will not be returning or recommending Mirbeau to anyone we know.
