This has been one of the most memorable meals I have ever had. I came early with a friend and there was already a line of about 15 people but it moved quick. I ordered a set meal and an onigiri. I got the pork miso soup meal set which came with a side of grilled chicken and tofu. The entire meal was delicious and the onigiri was also really good. We had upstairs seating and on a table of 4, my friend and I sat across from each other and to my right a stranger and her companion sat across from each other. I had never come across this style of sharing tables with strangers but it seemed like the norm and it felt totally fine after the initial surprise. The staff were pleasant and very efficient-the line moves quickly and you get your food really quickly as well. The prices are really affordable too, the entire meal plus the onigiri cost under $15. This is a must go to in Asakusa.

Came here around 11am on Tuesday, waited a fair bit under the rain as the que was quite long. We ordered Legendary Tofu Soup set that comes with 2 onigiris and we ordered another 2 onigiris. The onigiris are ok for me and they are quite pricey as you would expect in a touristy area. The tofu soup however, deserves their Legendary title. It is indeed legendary. The tofu i would say is the best tofu i have ever had in my life. The tofu is fragrant with their own unique soy smell, silky smooth yet bitey. Absolutely fantastic. Would i go again? Probably not. I would only go back for their tofu soup and that is only if the que are not as long. So if you do go, i would highly recommend the legendary tofu soup.

Busy but less crowded compared to others. Could get tables at 11am compared to the long queues at some other places. The lunch set consists of an onigiri, a large bowl of soup and some sides. The combination is great and fills up. The soup is very good.

Small shop worth waiting **1. Waiting Time** The waiting time was about 20 minutes. Given that it’s a small shop with limited seating, they can’t accommodate too many guests at once. However, I found the wait to be worthwhile, as the anticipation only heightened my excitement for the meal. **2. Food** I tried their legendary tofu miso soup, which was absolutely delightful. The flavors were rich and comforting, and the tofu was perfectly silky. I also ordered the palm origami, which was both visually stunning and delicious. The combination of textures and flavors made for a memorable dining experience. Overall, the quality of the food definitely justifies the wait!

Stopped by a cozy onigiri spot for breakfast and tried a beautiful selection of rice balls, each with its own personality. We ordered one of each onigiri and also one soup set (total ¥2100). The highlight for me was the onigiri with salmon mayo; unlike other mayo-based onigiri I have tried, this mayo was more tart, with a hint of sour cream. Another standout was the one with spicy tuna, where the chilli oil complimented the seasoned tuna perfectly. The miso soup was earthy and not very salty; it included sweet potato slices and leafy vegetables. Overall, the meal was simply but tasty, perfect for a quick breakfast.

Google
This place is really cute and I enjoy their onigiris! However this one lady at the counter was a little mean, lol but everyone else at the shop is really nice. The set menu is a lot of food but I would say the miso was not particularly special - it tasted just ok! Overall it was cute ambiance, and if I returned it'd be for the onigiri only!

There’s quite a bit of wait but the line moves quickly. I got the mushroom medley set. I think I got chicken or pork as a side dish which I didn’t expect to receive as I cannot eat them. I think you’re supposed to specify to them what side you’d like, which I unfortunately didn’t. The meal was filling and delicious, I liked the matcha drink.

Google
My wife and I were walking around trying to find breakfast and stumbled on this restaurant. We looked it up online to find it had pretty good reviews. There was a line but it moved fast, we waited for about 15mins. We got the morning set menu with 3 different onigiris; salmon, spicy cod roe and spicy tuna. To our disappointment this place did meet our expectations. The soup was bland and a very basic miso soup with cabbage and radish. The onigiris were also basic and nothing special about them. There is genuinely more filling at a 7/11 onigiri than this. We wanted to love it but unfortunately couldn’t.

Yelp
We came here for a light lunch around 3pm and there was no line! It's pretty small inside as there were only a few seats. Each person in your party must order, so my husband ordered one set to share while I ordered one onigiri a la carte. The soup was SO good - super flavorful and the meat was so tender! The pickled plum onirigi was also really good as it was more vinegary, which I preferred over the grilled salmon onigiri. The amount of food was perfect for two people!

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab a bite near the Senso-Ji temple and Asakusa, preferably one with some vegetarian-near options, and we stumbled upon Misojyu. What a nice little place! We had seen it a little earlier in the morning and made a mental note to come back. There was already a reasonably long line at 9:30 a.m., so we knew we needed to try to come by again no later than 11:15 (we needed to be at the Sky Tree by 1:00). When we arrived the line was very long, and we worried, given the size of the restaurant, that we wouldn't have time to eat. Fortunately, the line moved quickly, and we were able to get in, have a comfortable meal, and make it to our next adventure on time (albeit with little time to spare!). At no time did we feel rushed, even though we did manage to get through fairly quickly. There was certainly no pressure from the staff. My date got the Mushroom Medley Miso soup a la carte, and I ordered the Chunky Veggie and Pork Tonjiru Set. The latter included my choice of onigiri. I absolutely love onigiri, and having one that was freshly made (not the 7-11 store bought one, thank you!) was an extra special treat. Well worth the wait! Don't be daunted by the long line should you choose to stop by.

Yelp
Quick spot for brunch while waiting for sky tree appointment. Very light and worked for what it was, miso was fresh and tasteful. With the variety and availability of places to eat this met the requirement but wouldn't rush back. Service was quick and that was also key.

Yelp
My last quick meal in Tokyo! The place is relatively small but for a single person it's not too bad to get a small table. I ordered just the onigiri and it was delicious. You can only select from what's left over towards the end of the day but I don't think you can go wrong! Everything is freshly made! Most people get the soup set but I wanted something light before I head for the airport

Yelp
English language help is pre printed and the person at the counter who takes the order will point to relevant info Good basic breakfast miso had lots of veg and flavor. Good onigiri. Friendly service. Free tea. If you are staying in the Asakusa area it is a fine and cheap breakfast option A set is 600 yen or $4.60

Yelp
I came here for a small late lunch after snacking all morning around aminarimon street. It was an odd time, so there was plenty of room on the first floor. Many of the soups here are quite rich, and I wasn't feeling physically well that day, so I decided to go for a more classic tofu miso soup. It was the perfect thing to relax and rejuvenate me. We were blown away by the flavor of the tofu. It was refreshing and satisfying. We tried a few onigiris, but the salmon onigiri stands out by a huge margin. The salmon was really flavorful, and the rice was a good texture. I've never tried rice as sweet as theirs, but it was not too overwhelming; the perfect balance. The brown rice onigiri, which is somewhat rare in Japan, lacked some flavor, so you need that miso or the side dishes to compliment it. The texture of the brown rice onigiri was superb. Brown rice is often grainier since it's less starchy, so it's difficult to form into a sticky ball. This onigiri was held together as well as a white rice onigiri. The set also came with two tiny vegetable sides and fried chicken. The chicken was really tender, although it was not hot when I ate mine. The vegetables tasted really fresh and crisp. I would recommend this place for breakfast. They have a special breakfast set which I hope to try the next time I come here. It's also good for an early dinner (since they close at 7). This place is great if you're looking for something healthy and filling. If you want to have something low on carbs (hard to find in Japan), you can opt for only soup.

Yelp
Delightful place to stop by for breakfast when in Asakusa. Ordered two separate set items. The onigiri tasted fresh and delicious. Mushroom miso soup was exceptional. Cozy seating area upstairs.

Yelp
What a simple concept but so delicious - miso soup and onigiri. The special for the miso soup when I visited was mushroom based (my favorite) - it was nice and warm and so deep in flavor and especially hit the spot given the weather outside. The onigiri I selected was the umeboshi and shiso leaf (this is definitely more of an acquired taste selection if you're not used to ume or shiso scent/flavor) - it was one of the best I've had. The umeboshi was perfectly pickled and the shiso leaf wasn't overpowering, as there was enough rice to course through the supply of leaf shavings (this is speaking as someone who has previously hated the scent and taste of shiso leaves).

Yelp
The best soup and rice ball I have ever had in Japan!! MISOJYU is super popular among my friends in Tokyo but seats are limited so there is always line even on a weekday. The wait wasn't too bad about 30 minutes (10 people in front of us). The decor of MISOJYU is arty and adorable with industrial plain wall. The ambiance is cozy and passionate because of friendly service. Choose 1 soup and 1 rice balls for their regular set, we had Chunky Vege & Pork Tonjiru set with spicy tuna rice ball (¥1,380) and White Miso Soy & Scallop Potage with grilled salmon rice ball (¥1,380). Everything is astonishingly amazingly, especially the white miso soy & scallop potage, delicious, thick and rich but not greasy at all. There was a great amount of ingredients with variety braised in the soup as a healthy and light set. We also love their plain tofu, one of side in the set, the best tofu I have ever had in my life, super soft and creamy. You can tell from all the details in your set how much the chef and staff care about & proud of their food. If you are a tourist and get tired of all the heavy food during traveling, MISOJYU is definitely the best choice to take a rest for your stomach.

Yelp
This is such a cool breakfast or bunch spot that was a few blocks from my hotel and a couple blocks from Sensoji Temple. I got there shortly after it opened and there already was a line. I didn't want to wait so I made a to-go order. I ordered their breakfast special which was a miso mushroom soup with one onigiri. The miso soup included mushrooms, turnips and cabbage. I chose the ume-onigiri which is the pickled plum one. You get the soup and rice ball for ¥600+ tax. The soup was good and simple. I thought the onigiri was smaller than normal size and was not pressed together enough and it was somewhat falling apart. My meal was light and simple but lacked some 'Wow' factor to it. Dining in looks to be a better experience as the place is decorated modern and cool. Wish I had time to dine there.

Yelp
If you are in Asakusa, this is the place to be if you love eating fresh Onigiris especially for breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant atmosphere is quaint. This place is small so I would advice to get there before the restaurant opens. Otherwise, you will be waiting in line for a little bit. They also have a "to go" window, but in my opinion it's better to eat there to fully immerse yourself in the moment.

Yelp
Misojyu serves up some delicious miso soup and onigiri rice balls. The staff is super nice, welcoming, and accommodating even during peak service times. Each bowl of miso is carefully prepared with the finest ingredients available. In fact, everything they serve here is organic. The tofu is from Ome and is the silkiest I've ever had. The 'setto' (set meal) is the way to go if you're feeling a bit more fammishe from all that Tokyo exploration. I've eaten at Misojyu a few times, both in the little seating area on the 1st floor, and the cozy and beautifully decorated upstairs dining room, and have enjoy the meal every time. The staff, especially Kaho (sp.?), is always taking the time to explain the ingredients and where they're from. I think she just wants to practice her sweet English that she learnt while studying in Reno, Nevada! Please drop in when in Asakusa and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Fantastic little restaurant perfect for breakfast or lunch. We stopped in here after strolling through the market to sit down for a meal. The lunch set is the perfect amount of food: not too filling or overbearing. The lunch set comes with your choice of soup, half an egg, some chicken, tofu, veggies, your choice of an onigiri, and a refreshing cup of iced green tea. The mushroom miso soup is full of flavor and several different types of mushrooms. The side dishes were a nice compliment to its robust flavor. The staff here was very friendly. Don't forget to check out the art upstairs. This is a great and super affordable lunch option.

Yelp
We managed to come across this cute little restaurant while strolling around the streets of Asakusa in Tokyo looking for breakfast spot. The shop opens at 8:30am; we arrived around 9am and there was already a line up! We waited close to 30 minutes to get a seat since it's a pretty small place. The first floor only has seats for about 8 people and the 2nd floor has some larger tables meant for sharing. Everything on their menu is apparently organic and it definitely tastes like high quality stuff! Really great atmosphere too. It would be a cool place to chill out if it were bigger and had more seats. Otherwise, it's a great place to sit down and grab a traditional Japanese breakfast. They do take out as well if you're in a rush though! Their breakfast sets include a bowl of miso soup, an onigiri rice ball, and green tea for only about 700 yen! They have a good selection of onigiri: shio (salted with seaweed), ume (pickled plum), genmai (brown rice), shake (salmon flakes), spicy tuna. I went for the ume and my mom got the genmai. Both were delicious! Our miso soups were yummy and comforting as well. One of them was full of mushrooms and the other had huge chunks of tofu. If you go for lunch, you have more options of miso soup to choose from and they look more filling as well. The lunch sets also include 2 side dishes, although they're more expensive at around 1300 yen? Still worth it though I'd say! If I'm ever in the area again, I'd love to go back and try their lunch set!

Yelp
I came here for a small late lunch after snacking all morning. It was an odd time so there was plenty of room on the first floor. My husband and I shared a set meal with one additional onigiri. A lot of the soups here are really rich, and I wasn't feeling well that day, so I decided to go for a more classic tofu miso soup. It was the perfect thing to relax me and rejuvenate me. We were blown away by the flavor of the tofu. It was refreshing and satisfying. My husband got the salmon onigiri, which I only managed to get a small taste of before he inhaled it. The salmon was really flavorful and the rice was a good texture. There was nothing crazy about the flavor - kind of tastes exactly like what you expect it to be, but it pairs well with the miso soup. I got the brown rice onigiri, which is somewhat rare in Japan. From what I could tell, it had bits of gobo (burdock root) which is one of my favorites and considered a superfood! The onigiri itself lacked some flavor so you really need that miso or the side dishes to compliment. The texture of the brown rice onigiri was superb. Brown rice is often grainer since it's less starchy, so it's difficult to form into a sticky ball. This onigiri held together as well as a white rice onigiri. Yelp
Such a great spot to get a taste of something more traditional for breakfast! We loved the selection of onigiri and enjoyed meeting people in the dining room. It's peaceful, delicious, and a place we will visit again. There was a wait so get there early and do not bring huge bags, it's a small, but amazing place.
google avatar

Yelp
Very tasty soups with organic ingredients! No overpowering flavors as often found in for example ramen restaurants. We enjoyed the soup with tofu very much! The tiny side dishes in the set menu are also tasty. The style of the restaurant is somewhat a mix of traditional and modern with many of wooden elements - even the spoons and chopsticks as you can see on some photos. At least one staff member spoke English very well and they have an English menu. We absolutely recommend visiting if you're looking for a nice breakfast or lunch! We came here the day after our first night in Japan and are very happy with our decision. A great start to our holidays!

Yelp
This is the home of my favorite breakfast set in Tokyo! You get miso soup with your choice of Onigiri (rice triangle) and green tea. The quality of each component is quite high for the price : 600yen! An average price but extraordinary value. The seating and atmosphere is quiet because it is not directly on the main street. This would be worth a 40 minute commute to me.
google avatar

Philip B.

Yelp
Located about a 5 minute walk from the Sensō-ji temple. Traditional miso soup and onigiri. The vibe feels like home cooking with quality ingredients -- and it is. The menu is simple. If desired, it is easy to order vegan options. My go to is steamed tofu with greens. Along with the plum onigiri.

Yelp
Holy tastiness! Yummm. On my last day in Japan I found this place - I got lost but worth the wandering. For under $7, I had a breakfast of soup that included eggplant chunks and seaweed, a pickled plum rice ball and cold green tea. I'm not the most adventurous eater, so I was a bit concerned, but while. I wish I could eat here every day. You won't be disappointed. The food is amazing and the tables upstairs are very nice. Make sure you stop by this gem.

Yelp
Great traditional food with organic ingredients. Everything is carefully thought at in this unassuming yet sophisticated place. In my opinion one of the best eateries I visited in Japan.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. Food is great and traditional, for a reasonable price. The people are also extremely wonderful and speak English very well, I walked 30 min out of my way to eat here a second time.

Yelp
I stumbled in this little place and had an amazing experience! Their Tofu Miso was delicious. I recommend getting the combo set. Our waitress named Kayo, shared the story where their Tofu, rice drink and other items in the dish comes from and the experience made even more special. She was so nice and attentive. If you ever come to Asakusa to see the temple, you got to come and try their food.

Yelp
Misojyu is a wonderful place to get fresh and organic soups. I'm an American studying abroad and it was nice to eat high quality Japanese cuisine at a decent price. The atmosphere was small, clean, and quaint. They played various sub genres of Jazz. The food was amazing. The set menu comes with a rich tofu that is lightly seasoned. I ordered the pork and vegetables soup. The broth is lighter than most Japanese soups here but still flavorful. I highly recommend this place. 日本語を話せません。すみません。でも、食べ物がおいしいよ!

Yelp
We really wanted a traditional Japanese breakfast and found Misojyu on Yelp. It is a cute little shop on a side street near Tawaramachi station. We each had a set 600JPY, comes with miso soup and an omusubi. The ume+shiso omusubi was beautifully tart, gracefully balanced by shiso; the salmon+nori omusubi was very good also. My wife had the traditional miso, and I had the roasted eggplant miso. Delicate undertones of smoke and earth. Beautiful way to start a morning in Tokyo!

Yelp
Amazing miso soup & nigiri (rice ball)! Such a neat and very cute place. They were one of the few places that was open in the morning in the area. The staff is also very accommodating and speak English. A must go in Asakusa!

Yelp
Great 1st meal in Japan. Convenient location to the Asakusa station. Clean and cute little modern space serving traditional Japanese breakfast.

Yelp
This place was so quaint, the food was delicious, and the staff were sweet and accommodating. I highly recommend stopping by if you are the area!

Arrin R.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! The rice balls are incredible! They are simple, flavorful, and portable for snacking on the go while you are visiting Tokyo. The staff is friendly and the shop is super cute. The menu is in English and the staff speaks English as well. Do yourself a favor and drop in!

Monica W.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelp we enjoyed a surprise lunch at this small and lovely miso soup rice cake restaurant. For about $18 a person we got a set that included a hearty miso based stew, the rice cake of our choice and three small plates that included a sublime roast chicken, pickles and a sweet tofu and green tea. We sat upstairs in the tiny but bright art filled dining room listening to jazz. Can't recommend highly enough for pre or post shrine visiting.

Asad H.

Yelp
I'm really glad I decided to visit this place. Probably the best miso soup I have ever had. Great customer service and cool traditional atmosphere. Surprised that they play American country music in traditional Japanese breakfast spot. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area!
