Yelp
While they advertise themselves as a gay bar/club and while this is true, their crowd of people is well mixed from all walk of life due to their friendly environment, which is great because when I told one of my friends where I was going for the first time, they tried to tell me that I would messed with for having long hair by the gray crowd for not being gay with long hair. Turns out that person ls wrong. I've been going for years and have and ever felt uncomfortable
I generally don't like bars as a rule, but I'll frequent this bar, mainly for their drag show which is hilarious!
The lower level, they have two bars, a pool table, darts, and a stage with seating.
Their upper level has two mini bars, a huge led dance floor, and a tiny toy/link shop in the back right corner.
At night, Dirty Dorothy host a commical drag show with song and dance numbers, sometimes it is a hit or miss, however last time I was here the was shot on. Dorothy is also the only real woman on stage. Wait, I take that back, for years this was true, the sax player is a real woman, and she is beyond awesome.
The quality of their queen's range from so so to excellent, but they are all professionals and are quite entertaining.
They have a sign language interpreter and some of my favorite bits are when they mess with him and say very raunchy sentences for him to sign!
The second to last time I was here, Mrs. Vondoo (sorry if I misspelled her name) Ran the show, and she was a riot! My favorite thing about her was her big black fan that had DADDY written on it with big capital letters with which she used to interact with the crowd.
I understand there is an art to lipsinking, but I prefer when the singing is real. I was there the saturday after Whitney Houston passed, one of their queens who had the night off could sing "in the key of Whitney" as they called it, was brought in to play tribute. She wasn't dressed up, but you could tell that was real voice, and it does something delightfully disturbing to watch a man, sing and sound like Whitney. I was in the crowd and she paused right next to me, so I can confirm the singing was real.
So yeah, love this place and I drag my friends here with me sometimes!
