The teachers are generally fantastic, with Emi Tull (Dharma), Stewart Gilchrist (Experienced Yoga) being the main reasons I keep wanting to come back. They are challenging, but you leave class feeling like what you learned and experienced goes far beyond the mat. I hope the teachers are paid well, because they are what make the studio.
Most other classes were also excellent. The only teacher that seemed completely disengaged was Marcus Veda for Yin. He gave no adjustments and only looked at the camera. It just seemed like he was just needing something to do before 4beat. I was also taking a class where the subwoofer was so loud from the neighbouring studio that it felt like I was in a nightclub not a yoga studio. When I looked to see what class was in there, he was just in the studio by himself listening to music loudly. I don’t mean to be unkind, but it seems someone who is teaching future yoga teachers might have more awareness about the yoga community and sonic landscape beyond 4Beat.
The vibe, generally is corporate. But the studios are lovely and I give them kudos for not falling into the trap of superficial cultural appropriation and exotification.
Props (foam blocks and fleece blankets) feel quite cheap for a high end studio and I hope that they might upgrade at some point.
It seems there is only one cleaning lady and she didn’t seem fully integrated into the social circles of other staff, so I wondered about her workload given the volume of traffic and also general company culture.
