A very well run establishment. The staff is very helpful, even when they’re off the clock. Room was clean and in good repair, bed was comfy. Did not see them being sticklers about the dress code, but I was also following it myself.

This historic and stately place offers a convenient location for visiting the many wonderful sights (the Arch, of course) and excellent museums (the Cardinals Hall of Fame, the Blues & the City Museums are all downtown, others are further away). The rooms vary in their size and amenities. The basic one with a queen bed can feel a bit spare and the bathroom small. But if you want a more luxurious stay, then go elsewhere and pay triple the amount. For staying downtown, this is an excellent bargain. Ps. I should add that, contrary to one reviewer, the place does offer a gym, as well as a rooftop tennis 🎾 court.

We stayed at the Missouri Athletic Club this past weekend for an anniversary trip, it was beautiful! The staff were very kind and really made our stay enjoyable. Location was great for our plans. Ms. Sheri at the front desk was so nice, looking forward to another stay in the future!

Google
Lovely hotel with wood throughout. When we arrived we found the parking at the back, which you have to pay extra for. It's like a multi-storey although you walk out of the car park and into the back door of the hotel. We opted not to pay additionally for breakfast as we reckoned could find somewhere local. Very friendly especially when my wife was convinced she did not have a hair dryer. It was here that I thought I lost my keys to my case and I asked a member of staff to come to my room and snap the lock. Luckily I found the keys again. The rooms were lovely although the air conditioning kept them very cool. Just before we arrived here the outskirts of the city experienced a tornado which caused a lot of damage. However, when we were there everything was very quiet.

I was overwhelmingly pleased with my stay. The ambiance was beautiful, location was perfect, room was spotless, staff was very helpful and went above and beyond for my anniversary needs. If you want a perfect place to stay in downtown st louis I highly recommend the Missouri athletic club

Very lucky to have stayed here. Such a “regal” place to stay with old fashioned charm and standards. Well located two blocks from the Arch. Just a treat to stay a night here whilst doing route 66. Don’t take it on face value-doesn’t look much from the outside. But once you step thru those revolving doors….wow!

I’ve stayed at the Chicago Athletic Club, and absolutely loved it, so when I booked this hotel for my recent stay, I was excited. This hotel is completely run down. Lobby is beautiful, but the rooms are a dump. We noticed the sink was clogged and water was not draining right when we got to the room. The shower is small, no amenities, and desperately needs help. The sink was coming off the wall. When we left for the day and returned back in the evening, the cleaning service had opened up a window and the room was freezing! There is no ac or heat controls in the room, and when I called down to the front desk, they said they don’t turn on the heat until it’s 50 degrees. And the heat runs by the floor. I was absolutely freezing. What a waste of money.

The Bad: - Resturaunt staff are not allowed to accept tips unless it is under the table. - The front desk staff aren't very forthcoming with information on the amenities or policies around checkout or parking. This made for a confusing check in and check out. (Everything in between was extremely pleasant) - Snooty undertones, exclusion vibes. I do think it is important to protect image, but it would be better to be done with kindness considering the price of the services recieved. - No minifridge, for cold water outside of resturaunts you will need to buy from the vending machine or grab ice. The Good: - Location is amazing, right next to everything you could need in the downtown area. - Inspiring architecture. - The staff (housekeepers, wait staff, pretty much anyone you can run into while walking the premises) are so kind and friendly. The only rough staff experience I had was seeing how tips are handled, and some less than ideal interactions from the main concierge staff on check in and check out. - The historic vibe is very nice! - Amazing resturants in the hotel. Very good location to go for business, but the lack of waitstaff being able to take tips in an official capacity is a pretty significant red flag.

Yelp
I had the honor of doing a live wedding painting at this venue recently. It was absolutely stunning! Such an elegant venue. The staff was incredibly hospitable. I hope to paint here again soon! Chelsea Tamplin with Fine Art of Eden

Yelp
We stayed a couple nights for the Opera festival: the central location downtown was a draw and I love these old types of athletic club buildings. The decor did not disappoint: full of interesting memorabilia, art, and community scenes. both nights had a racous wedding going on but they had fun and we didn't hear it up in the hotel. We didn't eat at the hotel but grabbed things nearby and on the way to our events. The interior is gorgeous with a lot of character in the lobby. The rooms are relatively simple and plain but that makes them a great price-point too, it was just right for the money

Yelp
I booked a room here (1 bed, for one person) in March during a conference I was attending. The conference was in the conference center which was a small walk (7 mins) from the hotel. I did not have a car with me, but parking is in their lot for I believe, $30 a night. I was able to check in early without a fee. The staff was very nice every single time I interacted with them, which was about 5-6 times. This hotel also right across from the casino, which was nice. The stay was comfortable and the room was great. It was cozy and had a old glam feel. They also had a wedding while I was there and it looked amazing. This was the only time the parking lot was full. Overall, I had a good stay and I would definitely stay again.

Yelp
I attended the 65th St. Louis Baseball Writers diner with my daughter. The staff was top notch and went out of their way to accommodate anything you needed. The food was excellent and how you can serve over thee hundred people a steak with in 10 minutes of one another I will never know. The MAC is a historically beautiful building which has been well maintained with all of the modern convenience one would need. I would highly recommend the MAC for any event you have in the future.

Yelp
We attended a company holiday party at the Missouri Athletic Club. This review is for that experience, we did not stay in the building. This place is close to my heart as my husband's grandfather worked his entire career at MAC. The event was set up with drinks and charcuterie in the banquet room off the main lobby. We then moved to the 2nd floor for more food, which included mashed/sweet potato bars, a pasta bar, a shrimp cocktail, a photo booth, and music. On the 3rd floor, there were desserts, fine chocolates, coffee, hot cocoa, coffee and tea. The building is historic and beautiful, it used to be the tallest building in St. Louis and it was decorated to the nines for the holiday season. The Willy Wonka-themed gingerbread house display was very fun. I wish I knew how many people attended the party, it was crowded and there were not nearly enough seating spaces for the people in attendance. That issue might be as much the fault of my husband's employer as it was the MAC, but it made for an uncomfortable night when you are dressed up and trying to hold a plate and eat at the same time.

Yelp
I attended the Havana night event last night and it was so much fun! My bartender Sharissa gave outstanding service & was so friendly!

Yelp
Beautiful building but horrible service. I am currently staying here and the inside of the lobby is gorgeous. The room has no heat, chipped paint and one of my towels was wet already when I got here, im assuming they just reused one from a past guest without making sure it was washed. The worst part has been the front desk attendant Lois who glares and is super rude. Im literally afraid to ask her any questions again cause each time she's super unfriendly and rude.

Yelp
Very happy to be invited to the President's Club Wine Tasting at the Missouri Athletic Club Downtown. Old world charm and ambiance met new world cuisine. MAC did a fabulous job hosting wine enthusiasts with some very good wine starting with a very nice French Brut and yummy passed apps including brie & fruit pastry, salmon mouse canapés and a wonderful stuffed mushroom. That was just the beginning! Our salad of arugula and pear dressing was delicious and the paired white burgundy was perfect! The rest of the meal of short ribs and a dynamite dessert did not disappoint. Paired with two Cabernet Sauvignons, Kitt & Kin and my favorite, Rutherford Ranch for the main course and a nice Cognac based dessert wine the meal was complete. The food, especially the salad and dessert, was innovative, light and beautifully presented. The staff was outstanding being present without being noticed. It has been a few years since I have been to the MAC and you can tell there is a new "feel". Still has the charm of an old-world club, but finding ways to stay very relevant.

Yelp
This gym is what I would consider a boutique gym but with a lot of character and heart. It has all you need and more to be satisfied in a little space. The pool is phenomenal and the hot tub comes in handy! It's always pretty quiet in there which is a tad different from most gyms. It's nice! I love it!

Yelp
Best place to stay of taking in a Cardinals game. Within walking distance but they also have a shuttle. Warm reception desk staff. Totally an Old World experience. Rooms are quirky but nicely appointed and beds are super comfortable. Can't wait to stay here again!

Yelp
Beautiful lobby, outdated rooms, pretentious staff. Restaurant will not sit you without a collar shirt. I guess Steve Jobs and Zuckerberg would be unwelcome. Wallpaper is pealing off the walls, carpets look dirty. Current rating of 3 stars is generous. I waited to check in for 25 minutes before I was checked in, no apology just attitude. Good luck

Yelp
This might be a good hotel for the business traveler or anyone wanting the prestige of a higher end type hotel. The quality of the hotel is not high end. Its old and shows its age which should be expected. THIS IS NOT A GREAT HOTEL FOR A FAMILY WITH YOUNGER CHILDREN. There is a business casual dress code in most of the building or you need to use a back entrance. See attached pictures. They sell cigars & the 1st floor restaurant has a smoking & non-smoking section. So its obvious why the entire hotel has a stale cigar smell. Parking was an additional $18. The only good thing was the staff! They were so helpful & nice.

Yelp
Hotel is great for a quick night or two in downtown St Louis. The lobby is beautiful and you can just feel and see the history of the place, (plus you can buy some top notch cigars and bottles of bourbon at the front desk). The people are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit small and although clean and well taken care of, are dated. No fridge or microwave in the rooms, although there is a micro by the vending and ice machine on floor 8. There is a good restaurant off the lobby with a decent, moderately priced menu, good food, and a bar. As an added bonus on floor 10 buried in the rear is a billiard room with 3 tables and all the accessories free to use. Seems like no one goes in there much, which is sad. You can see pics from the 70's and 80's and it looked well used. Also be aware there is a dress code in the lobby and restaurant area, though it is relaxed during sporting events. I would highly recommend a stay at the MAC if in the area for a couple days to visit the Arch and catch a game.

Yelp
If you happen to find yourself lost on the Mississippi River, desperate for shelter in a storm, and being forced into one of the many underpass homeless discos, the MAC is a nice alternative. Now, I have learned the illustrious history of this eye sore of a building. Apparently it burned down before Hitler started wearing lifts, but they should have left it smoldering. The hotel is a strange combination of a Hampton Inn and "I wonder if this is the murder room"...I would suggest keeping your left hand on the wall to navigate the maze to your room, and do not talk to the two little girls in matching dresses standing in most hallways. Now is it all bad? No, I stayed a few weeks back now and the staff is very kind and hospitable. Janice will pour you a drink that your dead grandfather will feel in the morning. The lovely front desk will make you smile as you walk out the door, down the street littered in pigeons and midday crack enthusiasts. Amenities are new and available to guests for a few singles and a song. I enjoyed shaking my arms and slapping my back too hard before making it one lap in their Olympic swimming pool. The whole place has a very "well it is historic" feel to it. I would recommend staying so you have a story for a future dinner party. Feel free to mention the rather pale woman in the green dress who enjoys doing 3am bed checks and Halloween decorations. -GIART

Yelp
Hidden gem. Private club that rents out to the public. So happy we tried this place What a piece of history to be able to spend the nite at.

Yelp
We stayed here at the end of June 2023 and found the hotel to be warm, welcoming and comfortable. We adore the older hotels that are embedded with so much character and history. I wish we could have explored the hotel more. We completely missed out on the badly needed coffee on Saturday thinking we were stuck with the room coffee. The front desk staff were immensely kind and helpful as was the Gentleman in the lobby area. Our tiny room was comfy and the bed oh, so comfortable after a hard day sightseeing. I would highly recommend this hotel to those who are visiting the Arch, the ballpark and anything else in the Downtown area. Hint: Theres a fabulous little shop with ice cream and coffee and other goodies JUST around the corner. Step out the front door, turn left, then right at the light. You can't miss it across the street.

Yelp
Nice rooms and amenities with a fantastic location near the St Louis Arch, but bring ear plugs as there's poor sound proofing - you can hear the road noise and your next door neighbor's conversations and doors opening and closing.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I came down for the weekend to explore the city. This is an older building but we did not have any issues. I read reviews about the AC which was fine the whole time. There were comments about dress code which was not a problem, as long as you are not in specific dining halls. Walking around the hotel you are fine to be in your everyday casual attire. The shower water temperature was not and issue either. It was the lowest cost hotel for this weekend and I am so glad we stayed. The staff was great and helpful. I felt very safe coming back at night and walking in the area during the day. The only note I can make is that it was very easy to hear our neighbors through the wall/conjoining room door but I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
The St Louis Missouri Athletic Club is a premier social venue for athletic, dining, profesional, civic, family and social events. Located downtown St Louis this club has been in existence since 1903. Upon entering the Missouri Athletic Club you are greeted with the warmth of wood walls and old world charm. Dining here is intended to exceed your expectations. There is much room to spread out and have private conversations in Intimate settings. The restrooms at the MAC are likely the nicest in town. Normally I don't write about restrooms, but these are just one sign the place is first class. The Missouri Athletic Club also has a venue in West County for tennis and racquetball. The downtown location has an indoor pool and the West County location has an outside pool. Both locations have informal and formal dining. There is a reciprocal golf arrangement at nearby private clubs. If you get the chance to go with a member, or get invited to an event here make sure to go. Membership at the Missouri Athletic Club is by referral of another member. As membership in this type of Social Club has declined over the years, it is not quite as exclusive as it once was.. but remains special. The MAC is like stepping back in time to a grander era.

Yelp
I had visited the MAC several times over the years for special events and luncheons, but had never spent the night. Was a little concerned by some of the postings about the rooms being outdated and in bad shape, but appears MAC appropriately updated rooms during Covid, because our room was terrific. The bathroom was a bit tight, but very nice. New tile, sink, toilet and shower. Found the AC a bit confusing on how to control, so just left it alone. The Jack Buck Grille was terrific for a burger and fries, and the Sportsman's Club had an excellent breakfast. Food was just a little pricy, but not when considering the quality. Room price was the best I could find Downtown STL. We'll use it again. Great old-school feel with all the wood trim. Lots of history for a building and club that's been around since 1903.

Yelp
Old downtown hotels are da bomb. This one did not disappoint. The rooms are not fancy. The bathrooms are very much as they were in the mid 20th century. But it's comfy, clean and in the perfect locations for the Arch, Old Courthouse and Busch Stadium. The room we got was an interior room looking out over ... nothing. But those rooms are larger. So ask for one of those. We had a roll away brought up and needed the extra space. Free wi-fi. One night less than $200 for this location was amazing! Validated parking in the garage across the alley. Nice bellman, desk staff and folks in the restaurant. Great coffee! French toast was delish. Gorgeous old lobby. Take a minute to walk around and look at the beautiful wood and accents. In May of 2007, the Club was again recognized for its prestige and history. The Downtown Clubhouse was added to the National Register of Historical Places, forever making it a landmark in St. Louis. Note they have a "dress code" as they are a private club. It is very relaxed on game days. But be sure to note it before booking for a long stay. There is still a well appointed gym and billiard room on site. If you want Hilton type amenities and fanciness, this may not be your place. If you want a comfy room in an historic place that is near everything downtown for a lot less than the Hilton, this is your place.

Yelp
My wife and I had booked our stay for the upcoming 4th of July, starting Wednesday 7/3. Due to inclemente weather possibly putting the kibosh on the festivities, we decided it to cancel. Due to the fact that doing so was so seamless and we even got out of any cancellation fees with the 3rd party peeps (booker?) we will be making it a point to stay with this property in the future. We have never been to the Missouri Athletic club for a stay, but we are sure to add the 5th star to the review then, due to the expectation-exceeding customer service we have already encountered. Debbie, whether you get to personally see this review or someone tells you about it - please know that you are appreciated. From adding a night for us the other day to having to now cancel, you have been fantastic. I hope you and all at the property have a wonderful holiday despite any potential bad weather.

Yelp
Rotaty Lunch Can order off of the menu or buffet The buffet is a tasty cross section of healthy ( salad bar, deli meat for sandwiches, roasted veggies, smoked salmon, smoked fish and capers, fruit-pineapple, kiwi, strawberry, melon, ) & rich (New England & Manhattan clam chowder, cheese, blue cheese, cream sauce on breaded chicken, olives). They bring out fresh tiny cinnamon pecan rolls as well as fresh rolls and butter right away. Service is fast, courteous without being obtrusive. A service charge (tip) is included so your $13.95 buffet with a drink is $20 but so worth it. Not only is this place very classy but the food is fresh, tasty and good for you. I rarely give 5 stars but this place earned it

Yelp
Swanky joint in the heart of downtown. Don't tell no one, but you can smoke at the bar (it's illegal but so many big wigs frequent this place they dgaf). Also...drinks Togo! Shhhhh! Construction was occurring next door at 8am so they gave us free breakfast. Delicious. Stay here if you come to the STL.

Yelp
Best club hands down there events are always top notch Ruth a great staff and settings

Yelp
What a great place to stay for a Cardinal game. Walking distance to the park and great restaurants close by. The Jack Buck grille was a great watering hole. The gym on the 5th floor was fantastic. A great old school place to stay and the employees do a great job with customer service. You can also get a shuttle to the game if needed.

Yelp
This place is about 50 years past its prime. I can see that going to the club for dinner or a meeting might be very nice. However, I had the misfortune of staying in one of their awful hotel rooms, which are terribly run down and long overdue for a renovation. The neglected rooms are to put it bluntly...gross. The rooms are very small. The antique wallpaper in my room was peeling. The very old maroon carpet was disgusting - it was dirty, bunched up, and crunched underfoot. the beds were old and banged against the wall every time I sat down. The windows were filthy. The bathroom hasn't been remodeled since the Truman administration. I hated every minute in this hotel and wouldn't stay there again even if it was free.

Yelp
As a sister of the groom, I have never been more disrespected by a banquet/event manager in my life. During the father of the bride speech, all of the staff was talking, stacking plates (so loud) and creating a very distracting scene. When I asked them to keep it down, their response was extremely unkind. The manager, Courtney, came over to me to scold me (during the father of the bride speech) and created a hostile environment. I am so disappointed in this venue but especially the head table serving staff and the manager, Courtney. BE AWARE BEFORE YOU BOOK!
google avatar

Yelp
This is actually a "Gentemans Club" built in 1914 that rents rooms. There are still members. The architecture is indescribable. The wood work is amazing. the grand ballroom is 6000 sq feet. There is a barber shop/salon. There are 3 restaurants with maitre d and superb wait staff, a luncheon buffet complete with steam tables. You are thrown back in time to time of elegance and attention to detail. They hold large functions here. The beds are clouds. The bathrooms are functional but basic. Wi-fi is amazingly I don't know how in a building like this. The staff is wonderful, friendly very knowledgeable about the building and it's history, most have been here for years.

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a small boy. I attended what was called "Saturday Camp". where we would go to various places on Saturday. The MAC was one such place. Where you could swim in the winter. Did I tell you in the 50's it was all male? And one used to swim in the nude. I still after over 50 years have the creeps over that. Ok that being said. I came here for a lunch with my owner and a some business men. It still has the Old Boy feel. I did see some women so I guess nude swimming is out. Oh I flashed back again. Anyway they had a nice lunch buffet set out salads, pasta, pulled pork, carved turkey, and ham. So I had the soup. First I started out with a cup of soup and it was some darn good I went back and got a bowl of soup. It was beef barley with mushrooms. Man was that soup good. So I just had the soup. I always get a kick out of coming to places like the MAC and seeing people I know for years. While I am not a member they sure in the hell know me and I know them till I walk in. Why is that?

Yelp
I was kind of skeptical when I stepped in here because the hotel looked old, and a little outdated. However, I explored the hotel more, and my mind changed. There's a lot here other than just staying in a hotel room. Many activities, things to do, and it's snack dab in the middle of downtown St. Louis. Where we were staying, there was a pool table on that same floor. There's also a poker table where people can come play if they desire. There's also a couple of swimming pools, a spa, and a nice little breakfast place where your group can come eat. It's not complementary, but you can save it on your total hotel room bill. The rooms feel a little old, but they do have a good view of the city. Each room comes with a TV, and a guide if you want anything else. Even though this is not your average fancy hotel, it's a nice historic place where people can enjoy themselves, as well as have a place to stay.

B H.

Yelp
I would rate this a 3 star if I cared more about gathering spaces than I do about the actual room, however we came for the room which I am giving a generous 2 stars. I would not come back to stay here again. Probably the main reason is because the bathroom are terrible. Any women would agree that clean updated and spacious bathroom is a must for any hotel. The sink with no vanity was old and water pressure variable at best. The shower was a stand up stall that a bigger man or woman would have trouble moving in it. The shower floor was like 30 years old, along with the gross carpet in the room. Everything was old, from the lights, walls, decor, lamps, to everything this else. They closet door didn't open all the way which we needed to store our stuff bc there is no space to walk around, let alone put bags down on.

Yelp
If you're comfortable staying someplace other than a top end chain hotel and have enjoyed your past experiences with B&B's, or more recently with Airbnb accommodations, then you'll be delighted with your stay at the Missouri Athletic Club. It's truly unique. The staff greet you warmly, with a genuine concern for your welfare without the often ingratiating "customer pleasing" you can experience in some turnstile hotels. Add to that an old world ambience, including many original oil paintings on the walls, and an architecture that mirrors its National Historic Registry status, and you have a picture of what makes this hotel so special. Beyond that, you'll have access to a small and charming breakfast restaurant off the main lobby with excellent service and delicious choices. My French toast was served on a heated platter, garnished with cubed fresh fruit, warmed syrup, and bacon grilled to order (I like mine on the limp side). They also have a dinner restaurant, which we did not have the opportunity to try. Other amenities include a full size pool, workout room, a modest athletic clothing store. Garage parking is conveniently located next to the building. Read other reviews for more information. This being said, and my reason for not giving the MAC a five star rating, is the rooms. Be prepared for fairly spartan quarters that are not large or modern. Our room was, however, clean and tidy which is all we require. I understand they are in the process of remodeling these, so improvements are coming on line as costs permit. We would definitely book a room here again when we're in St. Louis.

Yelp
Such an old, unique hotel to stay. Was in town for a work conference and stayed here. My coworkers and I ended up having a photo shoot throughout the place because it was so cool. It's definitely old and not modern but the quirkiness is worth the stay. No pool and guests don't get access to the gym for free. It's 12$/day.
google avatar

Yelp
Great pool and gym area w an old world charm. Staff very nice..top floor billiards room that is free..and seems private as no one knows it is there

Yelp
Old hotel. It is in serious need of updates like new wallpaper, doors, electrical and thermostats. The theme is some high class place like the drake where someone tells you to straitened you tie and they have a dress code. The reality is the place needs work and is not high class.

Amy J.

Yelp
This place is old and dated. You have to step up to get into the bathroom. Dangerous to me, The shower stall is like what you would see in a camper. I asked to use the pool and that is an additional charge. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

F D.

Yelp
This place is such a dump! Don't let the charming, wood paneled lobby fool you. I haven't stayed someplace this bad for over $40 in years. It is a dumpy Motel-6 sitting in a pretty old downtown low rise. I'm paying $140. On the 10th floor, my tiny window looks out at a brick wall about 20' away (no sunlight whatsoever). The room was freezing when I walked in so I turned the a/c off and now I can't get it back on - clearly two settings (on or off) and right above my bed so if I do get it to work I will have a blast of cold air all night. I'm down in the "business center" because the wifi does not work in my room. I asked for a different room and apparently they're full and yet I haven't seen another person anywhere in the hotel. The furniture in my room is broken, outdated and uncomfortable. The bathroom is small, old and dirty. There is a cracked ceiling right above my bed with what looks like water damage on the ceiling. I put a certain faith in hotels over a certain price, but I'm not sure how this hotel gets away with charging what its charging. Never again!

Yelp
As a former member, current visitor and likely future member, I have nothing but good things to say about the MAC. Both locations are great, for different reasons, but i have always enjoyed the steam room, hot tub and grill at the downtown location,

Yelp
Clean, comfortable rooms and great staff! Beautiful old building. Very attentive and professional in every contact from beginning to end with every staff member. They were super quick at fixing a minor problem during my stay. They offered extra thoughtfulness that made my stay perfect. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I had lunch at the MAC today, and it is like heading back in a time machine. My Dad is a member and after our meetings this morning we shot up to the 4th floor for a couple of pop's and a buffet lunch. Lunch was pretty good. Here is my thing on the MAC - I have this very awkward "Judge from Caddyshack" feeling whenever I am in a Country Club type atmosphere like this where elderly African American men and women are working as bartenders, hostess, shoe shiners, greeters, buffet roast beef slicers etc etc. I am not implying that I witnessed racist behavior, I just feel like its kind of Brown vs Board of Education type of lunch. Does that make sense? Its just weird.

Yelp
We stayed here because of the location. We were in town for a football game which was literally across the street from Edwards Jones Dome. Overnight parking was great, there was a parking garage across the alley. There were restaurants and a casino walking distance from the hotel also. The hotel lobby was very nice the rooms were clean but very old. Our initial room had a joining door to the room next door which we could actually see into slightly. We called for a new room and they moved us with no issue. The next room we had was down at the end of a hall and just felt like we were staying in a bedroom at Great Grandmas house. It was small, cute and very old but clean. We ordered room service for breakfast and that was great, no complaints. If we were going to the dome again we would for sure stay here... location location location.

Yelp
Room -Bed squeaks all night and you can hear the neighbor's bed squeak -View can be very nice -TV freezes and the antenna produces loud static -Bathroom is dated. Stand up small shower. Shower pressure is amazing, but the water goes from hot to cold non-stop. -No clue how the A/C works because the dials appear to be from 1915. Lobby -Beautiful -Smell of smoke throughout building Staff -Room was cleaned, but not vacuumed -Front desk stop not friendly Restaurant -Good. Staff not very friendly unless you appear to be a club member Extras -$12 for use of workout facilities, which are nice. -Location is great.

Yelp
On the up side, MAC is in a very convenient location and is reasonably priced. If you're looking for a cheap hotel near downtown or if you want to work out, it might be right for you but I was less than satisfied. My biggest complaint was the lack of security. My room had no lock on the door, so I thought just the card reader and a "do not disturb" sign would be enough. But someone claiming to be housekeeping was able to open our door while we were both sleeping. They left when we woke up, but this left me unsettled, unable to sleep, and ready to leave. The room was seriously outdated with no air conditioning. So I would definitely not recommend for a hot summer day. The walls were thin enough to hear everything our neighbors did and we were annoyed by hammering and sawing from construction down the hall. This place pretends to be a classy club (they even handed us a card with a strict dress code when we checked in) but is really no better than a run down, cheap motel.

Yelp
I stayed at the Hampton Inn Downtown, and as a HHonors member, I was allowed to dine at this private club. We have a Chicago Athletic Club and I am familiar with the whole old-school clubby aura. It was nice - very old school when I walked in and a bit opulent - dark woods and rich carpets. The dining room/bar was mostly men, there was probably only one other woman in there besides me (but it didn't bother me). I started with the crab and avocado salad - it was all mixed together nicely with big chunks of crabmeat and set in the shape of a crabcake. The dijon vinaigrette was the perfect acidic balance with a few slices of vine tomato. For dinner I had the braised veal short ribs - delightful. Nice and tender and paired perfectly with buttermilk mashed potatoes (not too buttery or milky) and the squash/carrot julienned veggie mix. Very classy place and I felt like a member while dining there. Also to note - for the quality of the food, the price is reasonable.

Yelp
We go to the MAC (Jack Buck Grille) for dinner probably twice a month. For us, the service has always been attentive and efficient and the atmosphere pleasant. In the bar area there are several tvs, so it is also a good place to catch "the game". The chicken wings are amazing. They are the whole wing, are crispy (just the right amount) and have this spicy-sweet glaze. And the serving is huge...8 full wings! In fact, everything we've had there has been good to great, from salads, to sandwiches, to the pan fried liver and onions my buddy had last night. There is a large cigar-smoking contingent in the bar area, so take note if you don't care for smoke and sit in the dining room area. In addition, since this is a private club, you either need to be a member or guest of a member to dine.

Yelp
No. Just no. Way too to run down to fetch the $140 per night they got out of me. Old and run down, what renovations were done were done poorly. I really wanted to like this place, but it's impossible when a room is this filthy and run down. One positive note was the staff, very friendly.
