The moderate trail starts deep into the canyon at Roads End station. Go early in the morning as close to sunrise as possible. The hike at that time is mesmerizing. You path will go through some marshes. Put on bug spray and sun screen.

Loved the hike, amazing views along the way of the river and after a point great views of the mountains! The falls were also beautiful!!

Beautiful and Worthwhile Hike in Kings Canyon This trail is a must-do in Kings Canyon! It’s mostly flat with a gradual incline over the last two miles, and the views—especially the iconic Kings Canyon overlook—make it well worth the effort. We started early and had the trail mostly to ourselves. No bears spotted, just one harmless snake along the way. A peaceful and rewarding experience!

Pros: 🌄 The trail offers beautiful views of the canyon and the river. 💦 The waterfall is mesmerizing and refreshing. 🌲 The trail is unique and meanders through the forested canyon of the South Fork Kings River. 🥾 The trail is moderate for the most part, with a quick 600 foot elevation gain to the waterfall at the end. Cons: 👥 The trail can be very busy. 🛣️ The first section of the trail is paved. ⚠️ There are very steep sections of the trail.

This is a beautiful hike with lots of varied terrain, incredible views, and a huge waterfall at the end. It's long, around 9mi out and back, so be prepared to hike for 4 hours at least. Horses use this trail, so be ready to encounter some droppings. There are also a few things we didn't know about it going in. First of all, it takes awhile to get here by car from the park entrance, as you have to go down a long and winding mountain road, slowing down often for hairpin turns. If you're trying to get there early, allow lots of time. It took us around an hour to get there from the entrance. It's also in the lower elevations, meaning you won't get to enjoy the cool temperatures up where the Sequoias are. The beginning 1.5 miles or so is very exposed and was rough in the summer heat. Lastly, be prepared for mosquitoes. LOTS of mosquitoes. I've never seen so many in my life, and we have a ton in PA. The worst is by the falls. We couldn't even stop to enjoy them because we were getting eaten alive, and we had to run back down the trail because they followed us. Bring good bug spray.

I was here 8/25/19 (National Park Birthday 103) This is my third time at Kings Canyon National Park of this year, I think I know why it called Kings Canyon because it is the KING OF ALL CANYONS. The hike is 9.2 miles to the falls( not 8.1) Easy hike and super pretty, not to much of elevation change, after a mile from the trailhead, come a long with river and a lot of small falls. (they are big to me) Stay close to the river made you feel much cooler, And the sounds of those falls just likes .... ( just close your eyes and enjoy it) When i arrived the falls, stayed there for 20 minutes. I had full covered to hiking out. They were few children on this hike, they looked very happy. A lot of mosquitoes ( bring deep wood, spaying on your body every 20 minutes) you will be the winner. Because Kings of Canyon, it has a lot of bears. Be careful with them, I will come back to this hike again.

What a beautiful hike! If you are coming from the west side and are looking for a day hike, look no further! It is about 8 miles from what I recall, incline starts towards the end. Be prepared to get if you get close to the falls! Overall, it is a beautiful hike as you start to walk inti the canyon! The hike starts at roads end, plenty of places to park! Along the way you will pass bailey’s bridge which is another neat spot to stop at! If you’d like to see a video from this hike, check out my Youtube channel: lukegee travels

A terrific trail. Challenging but certainly doable for most people. Great hike to both a scenic lookout and a great waterfall. Be careful getting off the trail to get down near the falls, but do so. Enjoy some frigid but refreshing snow melt mist. Just a blast to hike.
