This is a beautiful hike with lots of varied terrain, incredible views, and a huge waterfall at the end. It's long, around 9mi out and back, so be prepared to hike for 4 hours at least. Horses use this trail, so be ready to encounter some droppings. There are also a few things we didn't know about it going in.
First of all, it takes awhile to get here by car from the park entrance, as you have to go down a long and winding mountain road, slowing down often for hairpin turns. If you're trying to get there early, allow lots of time. It took us around an hour to get there from the entrance. It's also in the lower elevations, meaning you won't get to enjoy the cool temperatures up where the Sequoias are. The beginning 1.5 miles or so is very exposed and was rough in the summer heat. Lastly, be prepared for mosquitoes. LOTS of mosquitoes. I've never seen so many in my life, and we have a ton in PA. The worst is by the falls. We couldn't even stop to enjoy them because we were getting eaten alive, and we had to run back down the trail because they followed us. Bring good bug spray.
