In Costa Rica, Reconnecting With My Teenage Daughter | Condé Nast Traveler

"The night we arrived in Costa Rica, we witnessed an array of wildlife at Mistico Park in La Fortuna: bright yellow frogs, an emerald basilisk lizard, more butterflies than we could count, snakes coiled up inside rocky outcrops, and the national bird, the clay-colored thrush, whose lilting song heralds the coffee-picking season."

Good experience. A little touristy for my taste, but really pretty cool overall. A lot of tough uphill walking. The bridges and views were really super. Saw monkeys, birds, snakes, frogs, etc. Guides: I've read many different reviews regarding guides. I did not have a guide, because I knew what to look for and where. However, I saw many who had guides and they were shown tons of great stuff. For the average person, definitely get a guide. They know where cool things are hiding.

This park was amazing! Just know that the hanging bridges aren't for everyone. They are high! However, there is a paved, wheelchair accessible path (park has electric scooters) with no hanging bridges that are still amazingly beautiful. Get a guide! It's worth the piece. The flower gardens were exceptional.

We arrived at 2pm without a reservation and had the privilege of getting a private tour with Anderson as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and took amazing photos using our phones and his scope. It was an excellent experience. We saw multiple monkeys, 2-3 snakes, birds, a tarantula and a sloth!

Very nice park, but be prepared for quite a strenuous hike. We went to Mistico after the La Fortuna waterfall so it was already after 11 AM when we arrived. Luckily for us the park was not busy at all. The hike is only about 3,5 km but goes up and down quite often which becomes difficult, especially when it’s 30°C. The hanging bridges are fun and offer some cool viewpoints of the jungle. Behind the ticket office is also a very nice lookout point of the Arenal volcano which you can see on a clear day. We spent about 3 hours here in total.

If you come here pay the additional for the guide I promise you it’s so worth it. We almost didn’t be because the cost does add up and I just thought it would not be worth it but TRUST me it is. See if maybe they can work a good deal for you if you have a big family. Our guide was Andersen and he deserves a raise. He was amazing and taught us so much about the species and Costa Rica I literally fell love with the country even more based on history and interesting facts he provided about the country as a whole. He spotted so many things we would have never seen. This place is magical. A lot of great photo opportunities.

More touristy but fun and beautiful. The hanging bridges were fun and gave you a unique point of view. Easy paved paths with lots of flowers. You don't need a guide to see a lot of monkeys and birds unless this is your first time in the jungle. Get a guide in Monteverde Reserve for sure.

We visited the hanging bridges on a Tuesday midday. It was not too busy. Beautiful scenery and very enjoyable hike through the jungle, the hanging bridges are beautiful and little scary to walk through, but worth it. Lots of wildlife, we got to see yellow snake 🐍 , monkey 🙈 heard many monkeys from far we didn’t get to see them all. Call and reserve your spot ahead a time since they sell out. Staff is very friendly and fun. We called them same day and was able to arrange it. Must see when you visit the area.

We had a phenomenal time at the hanging bridges rain forest. It was an impressive setup and we were told that they built the facility with a layout that makes it almost certain you see some incredible species. They are handicap accessible and even offer scooters. There are stairs in some places but I think those are off-the-main trail paths. The hanging bridges were really cool as well and gave you a glimpse of the volcano as well as the overall rainforest. We saw an owl that apparently was a huge deal. You can tell it is when all your guides take pictures on their phone and tell you that’s the best thing they’ve seen in months.
