My best friend and I chose the lakes of Michigan for our annual road trip. Neither of us had been here since we were kids and neither of us had been to Traverse City. We were planning to stay at the Mitchell Creek Inn for one night on our trip around the perimeter of the state.||We ended up staying for five.||The Inn is run by a wonderfully warm, kind, and totally personable husband and wife team (along with their adorable pup who wanders the grounds. It is certainly pet friendly. Which is a must when you, like me, want your dog on your road trip adventure.). We also enjoyed talking with their friend, another wonderful woman who works in the office. All this to say- the owners and staff are AMAZING.||The hotel is situated across a pretty busy road from one of the bays leading to Lake Michigan. However, the Mitchell Inn has free and very easibly accessable kayak rentals which will take you basically from your room on the lovely, lazy Mitchell Creek, under the bridge to the most beautiful and pristine beaches ever. The water was the perfect tempertature and the water was clear and clean.||In addition to the kayaks, there is plenty of green space with adirondack chairs overlooking the creek, a lovely fire pit, and both gas and charcoal grills. Although my friend and I did take advantage one night of the great local dining scene, we hit up a great butcher (Butcher's Block) about half a mile away and grilled out the other few nights in their lovely lit and intimate pavilion area.||This place is so dog friendly and attracts the nicest, most laidback guests. I enjoyed making new friends with my neighbors in the rooms and cabins next door.||I can not recommend this place strongly enough. We are leaving tomorrow and I miss the kayaks and the hospitality already. I will definitely be back next summer. And the next. And the next.||Thank you so much, Mitchell Creek Inn!
