Always an interesting trip to Mitchell’s Hardware. I walk in needing nothing and find something I can live without. Friendly and helpful staff as well.

Wow. What a neat place. A local was telling me their motto is: if you can't find it here, you don't need it. I thought that was peculiar for a hardware store... then I went in. Mitchell's really does have everything - feed, hardware store items, plants, knives, souvenirs, ornaments of the town Bear statues, skillets, etc. Definitely stop in here if nothing else but to take it all in, in all its glory. If you want a good souvenir, this is the only place that has the different Bear statues as ornaments. There's plenty of other things to pick up just because, as well. Oh and don't forget to snap a picture with their Bear outside.

Absolutely love this store!! So many cool items, antiques, amazong service and every old school tool you can think of! They even wrapped my Christmas gift for free! Highly recommend!!!

I've been here several times, and it's always a joy to see all the great decor, household items, and tasty treats. You can stop looking for that particular item after shopping here. They seem to have at least one of every essential household item and then some. The whole store has a warm and inviting feel to it and friendly staff as well.

Mitchell Hardware is an authentic hardware store and gift shop. This store has served historic Downtown New Bern and the surrounding areas since 1898. Mitchell’s is truly a visit to the past, complete with the choices of the present. The staff is very friendly. Store is filled with numerous items of very many different kinds. There collection of items is very unique from hardware to houseware to plants. To get the sense of uniqueness go to the inner side of the store and see the “Smoke House”. Rare store to visit.

Cool spot! Nice souvenirs that aren't the same junk you find everywhere else- I got a sweet Christmas tree ornament based on one of the New Bern bears I'd seen while walking around. Cashiers were super friendly (maybe everyone in New Bern is friendly!). They also had a lot of regular hardware store kind of things, so could be nice for locals. Would recommend!

Throughout years of travel with my wife, this spot was one of the most unique antique and vintage places we've been. It was clean, organized and smelled wonderful

Lovely hardware store in the best old time tradition. We were in town to pick up our son from military training at Camp LeJeune. Great Halloween decorations and the MumFest t-shirt was a favorite souvenir. Don't skip this walk back in time next time you visit.

We visit this store each time we come to New Bern, NC. Full of friendly staff and we always find so many things that we cannot live without. There are hoses for your toilet, pitchforks for your garden, towels for your kitchen, pots for your veggies, old tyme candy for your belly, and so much more. The history of the store is sweet also, and make sure to see their bear posted out front to welcome everyone inside. Thank you to Greg's daughters for continuing to be a place in New Bern that so many love. Trust me, you want to be in this store.

Thanks to a visit to Mitchell Hardware, these two beauties now reside at Mi Casa! Stepping into Mitchell's is like stepping back in time. You can just imagine the generations strolling through the store. So many unique and useful items, you can spend hours checking out everything they have to offer...from kitchen/grill items to garden & bird goodies to fishing must haves...way to much to mention. Plus it's all reasonably priced! Just know if you're stumped for a gift for a friend and can't find it here, it doesn't exist! Everyone in the store is friendly, knowledgeable and so helpful!

We are very fortunate to have this hardware store in downtown New Bern. They have most everything you need and the staff is very helpful.

I read about this hardware store before visiting during my stay in New Bern, and honestly, this is the kind of hardware store that dreams are made of. Half of the store is hardware products, while the other half is general store materials. It has been in existence for a long long time and is now owned and operated by the daughters of the original owner, who sadly passed a couple years ago. I could tell right away who the daughters were when I entered, because they were friendly and greeted us immediately (plus, their picture was in the article I read). I could also tell that they knew their local customers well, because they greeted them all by name and knew exactly what they needed. They had complete knowledge of this store from top to bottom and knew their materials inside and out. I wish I had a hardware store like this in my town :-)

What an incredible store to visit each and every time! They have so much to offer and are always friendly! The positive: Great for finding gifts, BBQ/grill items, tools, hardware and miscellaneous items in downtown New Bern. The negative: Street parking can be challenging at times. Make sure to read the signs for the 2 hour limit. Overall I enjoy visiting Mitchell's and I always take friends and family who visit here. Truly a staple in downtown New Bern!

Very cute and historical store in downtown New Bern. This is an old hardware store but it's also a tourist attraction as it is located in one of the architectural gems of new Bern. They stock tourist items that one may want to bring home as a memento of the trip here. They get great kudos for being open on Labor Day (when most things in town were closed) and offering tourists something to see and do. Great folks run this business, very friendly and quick to greet customers. 5 stars.

Best hardware store... ever! It's more than a hardware store and has something for everyone. There's a 'country store' at the back that's chuck full of interesting and unique items and there's a kitchen and cooking section in front. The staff are great. They're helpful and knowledgeable. Mitchell's is classic. Full of everything, courteous, helpful, knowledgeable. Beautifully maintained, open early, cluttered but logically laid-out. Practical but also antique and classic. Wally and The Beaver would have come in here to get chain oil for their bikes. I never give a place 5 stars but Mitchell's is a convergence of all the positives you want in a hardware store. Very cool place.

During our New Bern Trolley Tour, it was recommended that we stop in to Mitchells'. Three adult women in our group groaned at the thought. While walking New Bern, we saw the Mitchell Hardware and went in. It was surprising as it offered tourist gifts and essential hardware for locals. Each of the three women found a momentous to purchase as a memory of our visit to the area

I love this place. It's the type of place that when you walk in you get SUCKED in. They have everything. I mean LITERALLY everything. We puchased the following while we were there: a book on the history of New Bern, a Mitchell hardware hat, postcards, a train whistle, potted mint, onion seedlings, spearmint and a jar opener. Like I said, literally they have everything.

I love this place, I come here as often as I can on visits. I can honestly say I can spend HOURS here, looking around. They have a wide variety of cooking/kitchen implements, garden supplies, and all around hardware. Thank you Mitchell's for staying open all this time.

I am in love.....with this store. Eclectic and full of surprises. From cast iron skillets to oyster knives to gardening tools, this place has it all. You could literally spend hours just looking in here. If you're looking for something specific, speak up...because you may never find it. A bit cluttered, but not in a hoarders kind of way. I think it adds to the character. A great place for the 'i don't know what to get so and so' predicament.

Oh what a treat! A old time hardware with everything you could need and a few gifts to take home. Real ingenuity help by guys that can still figure things out to help you. I had a problem with my professional tripod and was thinking that a type of glue would solve it but their idea was a tight rubber cap what did the job. I think three guys were helping to come up with the best solution. You just don't find that many places. You got to stop in and you need some help they are ready!

I think this is the best hardware store in the world. It has that awesome "hardware store smell", it's a proper old-school hardware store, and the staff is incredibly friendly and engaging.

I remember my grandparents taking me to Mitchell Hardware and liking it years before I even moved to New Bern. The staff are always friendly, courteous, and kind and can help you find what you need quickly. Sometimes it's nice to just browse they're cool store.Great service A+ keep up the good work! The country store in the back has a variety of items and is a must-visit in New Bern! Such a cute hardware store.

GREAT shop downtown with a little bit of everything. Unique gifts, home decor, hardware, local flare & super friendly staff. This is my favorite place to browse through & always find something neat. Greg is super involved in the downtown community & is very welcoming to everyone visiting or living in New Bern.

This is my favorite store in all of New Bern. I bring my mother in-law here whenever she comes into town. It is a combination of hardware and an old general store. It has a lot of the older thinks like Boradex soap and little things you can't find anymore. This takes you back to a new era. It has a lot of handmade stuff from locals. They have homemade carmel candy to die for. It is a great browsing store. If you never been don't let the hardware sign you. Take a step back into time.

I have frequented Mitchell Hardware for many years and have never left the establishment without the item I went there for. Plus, I usually pick up a couple other items. This truly is a hardware store of the highest degree. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Got there a few after closing, and the guy opened back up for me no questions. Small town hardware all the way.

This is a fun hardware store. I come here as a tourist, not because I actually needed any hardware. It reminds me of a general store because of it's wide variety of merchandise. I enjoy walking up & down the aisles looking at the household goods, & all kinds of doo- dads for birds, blooms and the yard. The owner is a very pleasant guy who greets you on arrival and is happy to help with whatever you might be looking for. You also can find a small amount of New Bern souvenirs here.

Love this place. It's one of those places you find things you remember as a child. Unique gifts are plentiful.

This is just the best place in New Bern to find hardware. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and helpful they offer suggestions and can propose solutions to our problems. They carry a lot of parts and unusual items. We are cruising sailors and have learned to check at Mitchell's first because they are the most likely store in town to have what we need. AND they are the most helpful and pleasant too!

The store motto is " if we don't have it, you don't need it" ... maybe it should be " we have what you had no clue you needed". Because we bought a basketful of stuff I certainly didn't have on any list. A bulb planter with depth markers and a twisted shape to loosen the dirt. A mini bundt pan - makes 4 instead of 1. Fels-naphtha soap. (if you don't know, this is a bar of soap that you can rub on any spot, wash the garment, and the spot is gone. I have used it for years and it never fails...but it is hard to find, so I bought 2 bars!) Honey straws. Old timey candy - remember Charms? Gorgeous placemats and napkins. Every kitchen utensil, cookie cutter, and Lodge pan you can imagine. Then, go to the hardware side and - well, there's lots of it but I didn't need it so.... finally, the gardening section. Package seeds, individual Seeds, tiny plants. Gloves, watering cans, etc. we spent an hour in here and loved every minute of it. Even if you are not a shopper, don't miss this store, you will enjoy the nostalgia,

This is a place I can get lost in looking at all the old mixed with the new. Classic tools, cast iron cookware, pottery, bird feeding supplies, gardening and the best best family service around. Doesn't get much better than here with the good feeling of permanent, quality service.

Old style hardwear in downtown New Bern. Featured in Southern Living and North Carolina magazines. Staff are very helpful and knowledgable. Many difficult to find items. I can't emphasize enough what a great place this is.

Friendly. Classic. Interesting. A cornerstone of New Bern. It may seem that the store is loaded with tourist and regional, well, stuff. But I can buy a quality broom for my bus, bolts that Lowe's doesn't carry, gardening supplies, as well as the plants and seedlings. And of course, mums. And mugs. And seasonings. And dog collars. And... things that make you wonder, "What is that?". Priceless
