I am a regular customer at Mitron whenever I stay in Menton. Unfortunately, today I had the worst customer experience at this bakery.
The moment I started speaking in English, the lady serving me began ignoring me. She smiled at me when she realized I couldn’t understand what she was saying, and then started speaking with her colleague in front of me about the fact that I don’t speak French or Italian, clearly making fun of me.
When I asked her why she seemed upset with me, she rolled her eyes and made it very clear that she was annoyed to communicate with me.
It was a very unpleasant experience. If the management of the bakery allows this kind of customer service toward non-French speakers, then perhaps there should be a sign at the entrance informing customers. At least that way people like me would know to avoid the bakery.
