This is a real hole in the wall treasure. My kalbi plate was only $17.85 when others are over $24. It was so cheap. They also gave a lot and it was very ono, tasty. Service with efficiency and very nice. I highly recommend.

Awesome food made with Aloha! Garlic Chicken and Teri Beef plates are FIRE🔥

Been going to this place for years devouring their breakfast specials. Good value for your money, very popular with the locals; not like Rainbows which is now overrun by tourists. Their breakfast specials are da bomb. If you're into salty, greasy, fatty, heart clogging, gravy saturated food, then you have finally arrived at heaven's Gate. Dark meat chicken pieces with skin on deep fried to a crispy golden brown infused with garlic. Grilled Portuguese sausage slices, bacon almost burned to a crisp. White rice soaked in grease and salty gravy. All topped off with 2 eggs any style. Peak breakfast and lunch hours generate long lines of hungry local workers craving for their daily fix of salt and grease. It may not be good for your heart but it sure is damn good for your soul. Yolo and forget about the world's problem just this one time.

Introduced by my best friend who lives locally. Ordered pretty much almost everything I saw, didn't quite finish everything but I was able to pack it in one container flew it back home and ate it and it was still delicious. Ever since then, everytime I visit, it's always a must to stop by and grab food in this hole in the wall joint. Great service and friendly staff. It's a small spot but the food always hits the spots, it never disappoint. 🤙🏾😋👍🏾

Google
Highly recommend to stop here for a lunch bento. The garlic chicken plate was huge and was very good. My husband was very happy and very full after eating the loco moco with 3 beef patties! A must eat.

Google
Ordered the garlic chicken plate! It was amazing. You get lots of food with your plate. The ladies were polite, our food came out quick! Good stop on the way to the airport!

Google
Went here to try their mitzuken bento. Awesome. Good variety, flavor, and filling. Fast and friendly service. I love their garlic chicken plates. Now that you can order online it's even better. Great portions.

Google
WORST teriyaki beef, garlic chicken and shoyu chicken I ever had for the price paid. Rainbow Drive-In is much better.

Yelp
In our opinion the home of the Best Garlic Chicken on Oahu. They're open Wednesday to Saturday from 7 - 1. They have a great system to take your order and get you on your way quickly and efficiently. We've never been disappointed. Food is always delicious. Lines may look long but move very quickly.

Yelp
Their service friendly snd bentos to go are great, go early for the other meals to choose from the okazu counter. There's other menu to choose from - with a blink of my eyelash the order was on the counter to go! (I was going to the School Street until they moved across Nissan) It has been a while going there and I'm glad I did .. I was in that area! I didn't take their bento photos we were too hungry to grind. I highly recommend their bentos to go with able parking next to Firdt Hawaiian Bank and across from Nissan auto dealership... drive through banks entrance ... don't drive too fast it's in the corner of the building!

Yelp
Visit: too many to count Date: 2/7/25 Time: 9:00am-ish What they got right: Quick & friendly service, tasty food and generous servings. Areas for improvement: none at the moment I ordered their breakfast deluxe special and forgot how big it was! Good thing I was sharing with my hubby. Garlic chicken was crisp, crunchy and tasty! Best garlic chicken so far, and I have tried others. Fried rice is great with the garlic chicken juices and crispy bits. I always order scrambled eggs with my rice just for convenience. I really didn't need the bacon or sausage cause the garlic chicken is what I came here for. Definitely recommend their garlic chicken and breakfast specials!

Yelp
Usually this place is spot on, but today was not so great! Got the breakfast deluxe combo, 4 shrimp and two vegetable tempura! I was curious why was so expensive when I looked at my receipt the price per shrimp was $3.09!!! Yes $3.09!!! Good lord what a rip off! These are probably brought in and all you do is fry um and serve them. I absolutely will not order again with out asking prices. Also my fried rice in the breakfast plate was gross and very mushy! Never have an ever had fried rice like that! Garlic chicken is still ono but one piece was really fatty with a bunch of skin!
google avatar

Chelsie F.

Yelp
My fiancé recommended this spot. Since back in his weekend school days he'd stop here for breakfast or plate lunch. So when we landed on Oahu for my birthday weekend this was our first stop. I'm always a fan of spots with chow fun:) Until next time. XOXO, ChelsieFletcher

Yelp
Everything was just as i last remembered it. Growing up as a kid everyone would bring Mitsu-Ken garlic chicken to parties and it was always gone. Finally as an adult I purchased the vegetable tempura, steak and eggs, noodles and the famous garlic chicken. 10/10 still recommend. The staff was very friendly and helpful being it was my first time. I'm gonna keep coming back when im in town for sure.

Yelp
Mitsu Ken is always so delicious and never lets us down every time we visit. This time again, the same! They make it so easy ordering online now and are quick when you go to pick up your meal. Stop In here for ono pocket friendly good eats. There's no where to eat it does not offer dine in, however we have no problem eating in our cars, the beach, picnicking, friends homes or condo.

Yelp
When in Kalihi and you're looking for ono local kine grinds? Dis da place, Mitsu-Ken! I've been coming to dis place since they were on School street, a hole in the wall. Still only take out but more parking!! The food no can go wrong, it's always good and they not stingy like the other place that starts with "Z"! LOL The ladies are really nice there and the service is fast. They gotta be fast because there is always a line, but the line moves fast. So if you know, you know BUT if you donno, try this place!!
google avatar

Mychel E.

Yelp
This place has been so consistent in quality for so long. Best garlic chicken I've had so far. Fast and super friendly customer service. The lines always move so fast. I would definitely recommend stopping in for work lunch or if you going beach!

J V.

Yelp
Went there at noon for 2 of their famous chicken bentos... chicken was overcooked! Dark dark brown burnt and parts were definitely hard to chew! I've done the mitsu-Ken chicken recipe online and it was really good. However the chicken bentos at their restaurant were definitely overcooked!

Yelp
I wanna start off by saying as soon as we entered we was kindly greeted with plenty aloha from the Aunties in the front this was ate first time so we looked around & automatically new this was a hidden gem while idk about hidden but definitely a GEM. I felt at home while ordering everything was organized the line wasn't to long that day everything was fresh & so ono. We grabbed all kind stuff. Total 10/10 for me I would highly recommend them to you and thank me later kind deal. But as soon as you go there the atmosphere is family friendly. Don't sleep on that chicken it's pretty FIYAH. Aloha guys thankz again.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service. I ordered 11 breakfast deluxe combos and it was ready within 20 minutes.

Yelp
My kids are getting old. They used bring home bfast from Mitsuken after high school. Fried rice with eggs, bacon and garlic chicken. I think it was $5 when they were 18-20 years old? I think the same plate is $13 now. Then again, my oldest isn't 20 anymore, he's 40.

Yelp
Love this place. Winner musubi's and very tasty. They get so busy it might take time getting your order but well worth the wait.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! When we looked up the address from the airport I was a little unsure because it was taking us in an unknown area and some roads were closed, but made the turn to the spot and felt reassured. Been seeing posts about their garlic chicken so had to get that!! Got the breakfast deluxe combo and it was big enough for 2 days!! I was NOT disappointed with the garlic chicken. I don't do chicken on the bone so chicken wings aren't my thing. Saw their chicken and was kinda skeptical, but first bite I was so relieved. No bones!! The crisp and favor complimented each other surprisingly. Each piece was smothered in sauce but it was still so crispy (even the next day). WINNAHS!! OMG and their fried rice was another surprise. It wasn't regular. It was like sticky mochi fried rice. I could do just that and chicken and I'd be happy!! And the staff was so local. Had a couple aunties in the front taking orders and then could hear the boss lady in the back yelling orders. Then she walks to the front and she's this cute little boss b*tch!!!
google avatar

Skye H.

Yelp
Been going to Mitsu-Ken since they opened on School street and their breakfast plate is still da bomb. Always try to go here when I fly up now. Though the signature garlic chicken is not as good as I remember. Or it could be nostalgia. People there are always friendly and make you feel at home.

Yelp
I can NOT believe it has taken me this long to post a review?? I think I forget about the places I go ALLLLLL the time!!! Tried and true establishments that you can rely on for great food! Ok, garlic chicken- lets talk about it... GO TRY IT! Boneless and super yummy. This is a very small place. You walk in and can pick your food or order their bentos. Just try it all. You won't be dissapointed. I don't even have photos as we forget every time as we just start digging into the food! The staff, those ladies are the nicest!!! So friendly and accommodating with any questions you may have. If there is a line, don't turn away- they are quick and efficient.

Yelp
The breakfast combo plate is sooo good! Ordered to go and the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. There was a long line but it went by really fast. Tiny shop but don't let it stop you from ordering here. Workers are really nice too!

Yelp
New menu as of June 2025. Order ahead when possible then go to line on the right for expedited pickup

Yelp
I've been eating healthy and was looking forward to my reward meal. A meal that was tasty, indulgent and massive! There was only one choice. The Breakfast Combo at Mitsu-Ken. The garlic chicken balls are a revelation--each one was a succulent morsel wrapped in a crispy breaded shell, bursting with flavor, perfectly seasoned to satisfy your garlic cravings. But the true star of the show was the fried rice. Calling it 'yummy' would be an understatement; it was the epitome of comfort food, each grain of rice carrying the whispers of the grill and the secrets of the kitchen. It was the kind of dish that didn't just satisfy your hunger, it satisfied your soul. The crispy bacon and crunchy chicken balls created a symphony of textures, the protein's crunch singing in harmony with the fluffy fried rice. Mitsu Ken is a takeout place. No seating. Service is excellent here. They have so many guests come through here over the years that they have the ordering and pick up process down to a highly refined science. Service is very friendly and makes the robotic but efficient ordering process more human again. Closed on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. Opens at 7am. Pro tip: usually no line after 9:30. For anyone who finds themselves pondering where to indulge in a breakfast that promises to be both satisfying and delectable, look no further. Mitsu-Ken's Breakfast Combo is not just a meal; it's an experience that will leave you planning your next visit before you've even left your seat. Highly recommended.

Yelp
I have love Mitsu-Ken now and have loved Mitsu-Ken since way back when! I miss when they were open at 5 AM, before work kine grinds, as they now regularly open at 7 AM. Lines are long all day because the food is consistently delicious here! My go to choices are the breakfast bentos and a la carte items. Be aware that breakfast is stopped at 10:30 AM every day theyre open. Known for their garlic chicken and fried rice, this place is always a great introduction to some local favorites and local food in general. Card and cash accepted. Drinks available. Prices are fair considering inflation. Lots of parking available. Easily found on Google maps. Eat up guys! Mitsu-Ken is a great choice if you're in the area!

Yelp
Mitsuken is the best place for garlic chicken, period. This is a different location from the OG location but such a better place. It's off the freeway with ample parking. I called ahead so my mini bentos were ready by the time I arrived. If you use cash you can avoid the surcharge. It's just a pick up window but there's so many choices available other than garlic chicken. Best Okazuya place. Chicken is still consistent in taste after 15+ years. Love it and will order again!

Yelp
When my mainland friends told ME about Mitsu-Ken and I hadn't been...I knew it was time I prioritize trying their infamous garlic chicken. We arrived at about 11:30am so unfortunately, we missed out on trying their fried rice () but alas, all was not lost as the true purpose of our visit was the crispy, garlicky, sweet and salty fried chicken. My husband ordered the garlic chicken plate and I ordered a side of garlic chicken and a side of chow fun which they made into a plate for me. I naively questioned if this would be enough food for me.... Ha ha ha the chicken pieces are HUGE. I was completely stuffed and couldn't even finish my chow fun (I can't wait for lunch tomorrow). We also selected the last garlic chicken musabi which we ate while waiting for our plates to be ready. Nothing disappointed and we will surely be back.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've eaten here when was at School St., and this is the first time at their new location on King St. Been that long. But almost everything to me was salty. Ya overly salty. The chow fun, hamburger steak, shoyu chicken. Hash was dry. Yaki tamago and hot dog was good! It been 30 mins since I've eaten and my mouth is puckered and thirsty. Oh well, this place may be great for the younger crowd. But the ladies working were top notch nice.
google avatar

Jarvis Y.

Yelp
It's been 4 years since my last review and bad experience from Mitsu-Ken. My experience has improved with friendly customer service and good food. Ambiance was good and pictures of my food is posted, spam musubi could use some teriyaki sauce and the garlic chicken which is what they're famous for is slightly dry but tasted good. They take only cash only and they will call your name so don't forget to open those ears!

Yelp
I no longer live on the islands, but man, everytime I go back home to visit, part of me thanks my lucky stars that I don't live in Hawaii full time anymore. Why? Because my kryptonite is local food. Plate lunches. I'd be here 3x a week at least. No bueno for my health. Garlic chicken bento. That's where it's at. Some famous garlic chicken, fried rice, spam, teri beef, and a little weiner. An absolute salt bomb but 100% worth it. So so good. The chicken hits you with that garlic flavor you've never tated before (if you're not from Hawaii). It's just that good, and I've never had anything as good before. Sugoi comes close, but I digress. Glad they moved to this location. The old one looked shady and crap parking. No where to dine, so it's exclusive take out. 10/10 would defintely recommend!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
The garlic chicken is fantastic. The perfect flavor and crispy. Plan your time wisely. They are only open 4 days a week. Also don't plan on sitting inside. Order when called in. Pick up when they call your name. All that said this place is a must!!
google avatar

Camille K.

Yelp
The food speaks for itself. The staff are friendly and helpful. Love the food and the quick service. Must checkout when you can. It's a nice little space that if you blink you'll miss it !

Yelp
Visited: 19/04/24 Oh gosh that first bite and the CRUNCH! Amazing! So much flavor from the outer layer of the chicken. Exactly how I like it. This place gets busy so do a phone order or online. Saves you the time of being in line. Not much was on the shelf which I was looking forward to when I went in. I wanted to try their musubi. Very nice workers and ambience of the place. First time trying here and I will be back. This plate lunch was $14.98 tax not included.

Yelp
Service and food are awesome, Staff very welcoming and polite, especially love the chow fun noodles and crab stuffed ahi.

Yelp
Favorite whole in the wall for one of the best garlic chicken on the island. That crunch my bite of sweet with just the right hint of garlic spice. For the newbies, if you haven't tried it, make it a must on your next trip!!! Big reminder they are closed Sunday-Tuesday and they close by lunch on days they are open. Nothing worse than getting excited for garlic chicken lunch all morning, drive there and be like aawwwwwwww cr@p forgot their closed today hahaha. To me they still have one of the best and best priced bentos. Garlic chicken. Teri beef. Spam. Small hot dog. Egg on rice for $12 bucks. They also have breakfast fried rice with your choice of meats, it's a huge portion of what seems like all kine meat fried rice. I still remember back in the day, when the breakfast special was just $1.99 for fried rice, two eggs, and two bacon haha. But that was back in the late 90's lol. I am also a fan of their teri beef, it's soft and has a great sweet teri shoyu flavor. They also have ready to choose from okazuya, there selections are more Hawaii local style food with Musubis, fried saimin, chow fun, breakfast meats, garlic chk, tempura, etc. They are just a take out spot so don't plan to eat here unless you are to hungry and eat in your car. They can be quick but just depends on if you go during a breakfast or lunch rush haha.
google avatar

Debra N.

Yelp
I haven't been here in a long time. They are not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Oh shucks! I can't make small okazuya boxes for my siblings next week. There was a long line outside and crowded when I arrived. The staff is friendly and patient. Somewhat noisy area while waiting. Custom bento box: Chorizo: slight kick, but tasty Maki sushi: very fishy Garlic chicken (plate...rice/Mac salad) - makes the best garlic chicken! So Ono! Corn beef hash, side....more potato and small bits of corn beef. I make better homemade with more corn beef! Oh well, you can't go wrong getting the garlic chicken plate...Ciao!
google avatar

Barry F.

Yelp
The food is always good. And there is so much food! Definitely enough for 2 meals. Everything is tasty too! Get ready to drink a ton of water and then take a nap after eating.
google avatar

Kehau K.

Yelp
always friendly service, lines are pretty fast. It's my saturday must stop! I usually order a deluxe breakfast and garlic chicken Ala carte (3pc).
google avatar

Micah G.

Yelp
Loveeee coming here. Been coming here since I was little. Although the prices did increase due to inflation, it still hits the spot. There's a lot of parking right out front. There's even double parking, but don't get stuck! There's no sit down tables available so just order your food then wait outside for them to call you. Very local company. The food is always so Ono! Never went wrong choosing whatever you like on the menu. We got breakfast plates with the chicken, hotdog and rice. So bomb!!! It was $10 I believe and the serving size was a little smaller than usual so it was a little sad but I get it. Or maybe it's because it's in a small container. It's perfect though just pricey. You can tell they make their food with lots of love cuz it was soooooo good. 10/10 would come back over and over again cuz I love it so much regardless of the price!!!!
google avatar

Calixta M.

Yelp
Love their garlic chicken. one of the best places to grab a bento at a reasonable price. The aunty's that work the front are nice. no tables to chairs though. get in and get out.

Jorryn K.

Yelp
Mitsu-Ken has tasteful food. I personally always order their fried noodles, fried shrimp, and garlic chicken. Their food never disappoints. I recommend going early before they run out of food!
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
I'm not sure if my taste buds have changed. Everything seemed sweeter than we remembered. The sugary sauce seeped into the fried rice below. The garlic chicken does not seem as garlicky as it used to be. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming as usual. They'll take your name and call it out when your order is ready.
google avatar

Yelp
Sometimes it takes a reason for a reason... My car wasn't feeling well so I had to take it to New City which is directly right across the street and knowing it was not serious but will take longer than the usual service though the waiting area is the absolute best ever why know take a stroll and finally see what's up at Mitsu-Ken. Yes I've never been here ever...tried during covid after dropping off my car only to see that it was phone orders only and no walk ins and have no idea what their menu and seeing a huge crowd outside waiting for their orders, I turned away and accepted my defeat. Fast forward to today and this super tiny nook has a pole to keep folk in line and must wait to be called by either two available staff who's super on top of all the questions you must be prepared to answer as you can have you eggs your way add additional items or not, chopsticks and if there's anything else just to name a few lol! Paying by cash is a cheaper but are now accepting cards is certainly convenient. As I waited patiently outside scanning the menu I glanced at the revolving menu images and the Breakfast Deluxe got my attention...it's 3 pcs of Portuguese sauce and 2 pcs crispy bacon on the load of fried rice, paid and wait outside until they call your name and snap there's your order :-). I apologize as my semi-unplanned early morning auto emergency got me so hungry that I forgotten to take a picture before snatching a slice of sausage though the yummy smell of breakfast just was impossible to resist. Everything was cooked to perfection and I was loving the generous portion of fried rice which I'm not sure but looked like to have pieces of hotdog, Teri beef, onions and green onions...and no I couldn't finish it not even close. For myself I'd get the mini as this regular is enough for two but great prices! Thank you!

Marissa K.

Yelp
Classic place in Kalihi that's been around forever. Got breakfast from here and of course had to get their famous mochiko garlic chicken! I got their Mochiko garlic chicken bento to go that comes with rice, hot dog, and omelette with kamaboko and green onions.
google avatar

Yelp
Perfect place to pick up a garlic chicken bento And hit the beach with the pups Location in kalihi Accross the street from new city Nissan They offer a large variety of plate lunch and bento style foods Another good one is the mix plate it comes with garlic chicken, meatloaf,Mac salad and rice
google avatar

Brenton U.

Yelp
hadn't been to Mistuken in a while and had to swing by to try it after hearing such negative reviews about their breakfast. Specifically the fried rice. It was delicious! Had choke meat vegetables inside, flavor was spot on with the extra drippings from the chicken. For the price, you literally have two meals in one so it's totally worth it. Parking is plentiful and the staff is very friendly. Definitely give this place a shot!

Yelp
Long overdue, in the mood for okazu and on my way to work. I arrived at 6:55 a.m., saw a queue of ten people, thought I'd better join fast, cause I don't want to wait longer. When doors opened at 7:02 a.m., I was in and out with my plate lunch full of okazu at 7:10 a.m. Worker serving food and cashiering expedited line with efficiency was very grateful. Cone sushi: Half size is perfect to eat during mid-morning snack. Love the taste and proportion of rice, minced carrots and green onions mixed with rice vinegar. The rest I chowed down during lunch. Vegetable tempura: My favorite! Full of veggies, perfect coating of batter and not oily. Shrimp tempura: Second fave! Yummy! Shrimp and panko dipped ratio is just right. Not thick. Garlic chicken: I only asked the worker for one piece. If you say you want one piece of garlic chicken, watch out! The worker will put 3 pieces in your plate. Keep in mind 1 order of garlic chicken equals 3 pieces. Bone stays intact. Good to keep chicken moist. Not ideal for some if expecting boneless. There's no garlic sauce; however, able to taste the flavor that lingers your taste buds. Fried noodles: Not crispy or crunchy. Definitely softer to chew. My food still tasted yummy when it cooled down. That's when you know you have great okazu. If you're in a hurry and want first dibs for the day, stand in line 15 minutes before opening 7 a.m.

Yelp
They catered for a family members funeral. The bentos were so flavorable and folks got to take home extras!!! Nice and thank you for taking care of our family during such hard times!! Aloha

Yelp
Hawaiis best garlic chicken. Bento is the perfect amount of food with good protein and rice ratio. Go early because they will always be busy.

Yelp
2022 Okazuya Review #4 Visiting one of my favorite places for Garlic Chicken. 20+ years ago I used visit them on their old school street location that had virtually no parking just for that garlic chicken. Mitsu-Ken needed a revisit for my 2022 review at their location now on King Street in Kalihi. Loved that they now have a huge parking lot for their customers! Food: Inari, Musubi, Veg Tempura, gobo, teri hamburger, chow fun, nishime, hash, and their famous garlic chicken. They didn't have konbu maki so i swapped it out with an order of pork adobo. Veg Tempura was heavy on the breading and somewhat mushy, everything else was pretty good with the chow fun probably being the most flavorful of all locations to date. The garlic chicken though while good wasn't what I remember, maybe it's been too many years or my palate has evolved but it no longer was mind blowing. Taste wise nothing to complain about but also nothing to rave about. Service: Arrived at 8 am on Saturday morning, a few people in line but it moved quickly. Service was efficient with two registers going, I was probably in and out of the parking lot in 10 minutes tops. Atmosphere: Besides the wonderfully ample parking lot, the restaurant it self is take out only, much larger then their old locations, clean, bright, airy. Value: Two plates, lots of food for $35. Enough food for a second meal for the wife and I, comparable to other places to date but it does come in a few dollars cheaper then the first 3 restaurants so I'd mark this high on the value scale. Overall: Easy to get to location, large menu and plates, decent price, solid food make this a good choice to get your okazu on. It's a recommend for me, now I have to figure out why the Garlic Chicken didn't knock my socks off!

Yelp
Haven't been there in awhile & food is still the same delicious! Garlic chicken so good and bentos were really huge and delicious. Called in the day before to order a tray of garlic chicken and they were able to accommodate order.
