9 Best Hotels in Osaka, Japan, to Rest and Recharge | Condé Nast Traveler

"For travelers who'd rather splurge on sushi than thread count, this wallet-friendly option prioritizes what matters most: a spotless retreat in the heart of Osaka's cultural quarter, complete with a serene 16th-floor hot spring bath that transforms the end of each day from routine to ritual. Think of it as the savvy traveler's insider secret—a 271-room riverside haven that hits the sweet spot of being close enough for convenience but far enough from the hubbub to unwind. The location draws plenty of in-the-know domestic travelers (many through Mitsui Garden's own membership program) and visitors from across Asia who have discovered this quieter pocket of the city. Rooms here deliver on the promise of Japanese efficiency: reasonably sized by local standards at 230 square feet on average, fastidiously clean, and unfussy. The design is compact but comfortable, with superior class rooms offering just a touch more elegance for a negligibly higher price—seek out the river-view options for the best value." - Melinda Joe

Our Favorite Hotel in Japan! ( we stayed at 5 different hotels 4-5 stars: 1 Kyoto, 3 in Tokyo) Our stay was exceptional from start to finish. Every staff member went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and their attentiveness truly stood out. The shuttle service was excellent! I definitely recommend taking advantage of it! They offer convenient pick-up and drop-off at Osaka Station, which made getting around so easy. The room was spacious and comfortable huge by Japan standards! Everything was spotless, and the décor throughout the property was absolutely stunning. Even waiting for the elevator felt relaxing as we admired all the beautiful design details. A truly wonderful experience, we can't wait to return on our next visit to Osaka!

Our stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Osaka Premier was exceptional from start to finish. We booked a room on the 15th floor, which gave us access to the exclusive lounge on the 16th floor, available only to guests staying on floors 13 to 15. This lounge quickly became the highlight of our stay — an ideal place to start the morning or unwind after a day of exploring Osaka. The snack and drink selection changes depending on the time of day, with all items included free of charge — a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel even more premium. The atmosphere was calm and refined, offering panoramic views that made each visit to the lounge a relaxing moment in itself. Our room was spacious and modern, featuring a beautiful view of the Tosabori River, which looked especially stunning at night. The staff were professional and friendly, ensuring that everything went smoothly throughout our stay. Another standout feature was the complimentary shuttle bus to and from Osaka Station. It not only saved us the hassle of navigating train transfers but also provided a comfortable way to travel between the hotel and the city’s main hub. Overall, Mitsui Garden Hotel Osaka Premier combines convenience, elegance, and exceptional service. We highly recommend booking a room on the higher floors to enjoy the exclusive lounge access — it truly elevates the entire experience. One small note: we couldn’t find any bags in the room to bring personal belongings up to the onsen — though it’s possible we simply didn’t find them. It’s a very minor point in what was otherwise an outstanding stay.

Stayed here as a couple and this is a great hotel. The rooms are on a small side but everything is well placed and convenient. The view from river view rooms is great. Location allows for walking to Umeda, quick subway ride to Namba. There is a sento bath on the top floor as well which many travellers will welcome. Will definitely stay at Mitsui Garden hotels again.

DO NOT STAY. No idea how this is a 4 star hotel and how they have so many good reviews. 2nd time to Japan and visited many cities. Have never heard of early check in fee- we came at 2pm instead of 3pm and check in lady said the room is ready. Yet won’t let us check in till it was 3. Rooms are decent size for Japan however the layout is just dumb. A random huge table in the middle of the room which makes everything inconvenient to move around for 2ppl. The toilet is just a wardrobe with a toilet inside. Not a proper bathroom. Silly and tacky design. Basic amenities such as water bottles aren’t even provided… and if you call to ask for something, ofc the phones don’t work! But the staff is the worst. Incompetent and rude. Location is in a business district next to a construction site. Definitely don’t stay.

Good hotel located in a quiet area about 7 min from the subway. There’s also a free shuttle that can bring you to the Osaka station. You’re not close to Dotonbori and will need taxi or subway. Rooms and double bed small but clean and practical. We unfortunately had rear view on parking and trash cans which was not nice. English at the reception so and so. The Japanese onsen (free) on the top floor (in the spa) is amazing. Breakfast is very good with a mix of asian and international cuisine. Fresh ingredients and instant cooking bar. Nice and cosy decoration.

This was an overall nice hotel. The room had a nice view and was very comfortable. It was a little bit out of the way from things, but everything is a relatively quick bus/train ride away. I didn't chat with staff too much, but everyone seemed very friendly.

While the hotel itself was satisfactory, the poor service and inexperienced staff at Mitsui Garden Hotel Osaka Premier were a significant disappointment, particularly when compared to our excellent stays at the Mitsui Garden hotels in Tokyo and Kanazawa.||Our final day's departure was a stressful ordeal entirely due to the front desk's incompetence. We explicitly requested a large taxi suitable for three adults and significant luggage (including large suitcases and carry on luggage) to Osaka Kansai Airport. We even spoke to the concierge in the morning in advance and suggested booking a taxi for four people to account for the baggage.|Despite showing the luggage to the receptionists, the hotel ordered a small taxi that could not accommodate our party and bags. The taxi driver did not try to fit the luggage in the car and left his boot closed, whilst stating that we would need 2 taxis from his company. When we raised the issue to the hotel staff, they were not apologetic regarding their mistake of ordering the wrong sized taxi, and did not offer any solutions. The staff were essentially bullying us into ordering a second taxi—an unnecessary and costly expense of JPY 18,000 each (approx. £90 each), which came to JPY 36,000 (£180) two taxis. We believe this is due to a contract they had in place with a specific taxi company, and more taxis ordered means more commission. |When we questioned why a single, appropriate vehicle couldn't be ordered, the receptionist and a senior staff member offered only excuses, and very smugly stated, "this is a different land," to justify their failure to accommodate a simple request. The staff found this ordeal very amusing at our expense.|Frustrated by the staff's inability to help and with very limited time until our flight, we attempted to hail a suitable, modern taxi - we achieved this within five minutes, proving that our request was entirely feasible.||In addition, basic front desk services were lacking at this hotel. They did not offer to take our large baggage to our rooms when we arrived, and we were left to handle this ourselves. This was not the case at other Mitsui Garden Hotels. |The front desk staff also lacked basic knowledge of Osaka landmarks. Upon requesting guidance for directions, the staff did not know what these landmarks were - again, very different to our stays in Tokyo and Kanazawa.||In general, the front desk and even the breakfast staff were unhelpful and rude, showing a total lack of effort to understand basic customer needs. We cannot recommend the Mitsui Garden Hotel Osaka Premier. They do not offer the 4* service expected, and the service provided is 2* at best.

Chinatsu Horii went above and beyond for me! I left my AirPod in a taxi and didn’t grab a receipt, and she was able to hunt down the taxi driver the next morning and schedule to come back to our hotel and drop it off! She also helped me rebook my train so I could stay and wait for the AirPod to be delivered. Overall, exceptional front staff service!

Yelp
Mitsui Garden Hotel - Premier / Osaka -- Of the five Mitsui Garden hotels Jamie W. and I stayed at during our journey across Japan, this one ranked high among a high quality collection of accommodations. Sticking to the Mitsui Garden brand paid us dividends in Osaka because we found ourselves in a luxury hotel near Umeda next to the Tosahori River. We arrived after midnight because we took the late afternoon Shinkansen from Sendai, a pretty long trip, and had to roll our luggage on the cobblestone sidewalks from the subway station. We checked into a Moderate Twin room for just $80 per night for two nights. There were two large twin beds and quite a bit of space as well as a pretty nice river view. Great amenities abound here starting with the large indoor public bath and a fancy lounge on the 16th floor with complimentary food and beverages. We even had time to take advantage of the coin-operated laundry since we were in the middle of the trip. Front desk service was as impeccable as the other hotels, and they provided us with an entertaining cab driver who took us to Shin Osaka station (photo). RELATED - Exploring Japan? Yelp
The rooms smell of body oder and mold. The headboards are pelling and appear to be heavily used. When we arrived for our 5 night honeymoon stay, the first room we were given had smelled of body oder and cigarette smoke. There were (3) beds and very little space. We contacted the hotel management, and we were given another room. While this one had more space, and only two beds, it had the same body oder smell. Fortunately, there was no cigarette oder in this one. Both rooms / floors are nonsmoking. Update: The hotel leader had reached out to us after our stay started (thank you), sincerely apologized in regards to the inconveniences, and had sought to better accommodate our stay by preparing another room with a deodorizer machine. We opted to stay in our current room and to have our current room treated. They're actively addressing the state of all all the rooms; however, there is only so much that can be done at once.

Yelp
Fabulous hotel. The rooms are spacious and the amenities are lovely. The onsen on the top floor is small but really nice. They have an indoor and outdoor area for you to soak and everything is covered for privacy. The staff are incredibly helpful and you can't beat the location with a view of the canal and a short walk from... everything. Wonderful place!

Yelp
This was my first time experiencing the Mitsui Garden Hotel chain, and it definitely did not disappoint. I was so fortunate to have this place be one of the first onsen experiences I ever had. The location is close to the station and the walk back to the hotel was so gorgeous along the river. The rooms were clean and I liked the layout with the sink vanity separate from shower and bath. I don't think we ever used the shower in the room because of the convenience of the onsen. They provided bottled water daily and they have a fridge which was helpful too. I really enjoyed my stay here and look forward to staying in another Mitsui Garden hotel!

Yelp
This is an amazing place to stay and in the middle of every attraction. We got the largest room that allows access to the lounge on the 13th floor. Our friends got other rooms that were floors beneath us. They said that their rooms were smaller than ours. Our room had a full bath tub and walk in shower with shampoo, body wash, conditioner along with other goodies like beauty products to try, travel comb, etc whereas, our friends room didn't. Loved how sandals were provided to use at the lounge along with clothes and socks. Highly recommend the room upgrade if you need space.

Yelp
Very nice business hotel in a convenient part of city. Clean, modern, close to Metro and local electric train station. Hotel staff friendly and speak English, which can be very helpful as the common folks don't speak English in the streets. There're more Chinese speaker than English speaker in the shopping area.

Yelp
This was a great hotel for our 24 hours in Osaka and first night in Japan. Fairly easy to navigate from Osaka Station. About a 15-20 minute walk, but there is a free hotel shuttle from the station that comes once or twice an hour depending on the time of day (check hotel website for schedule and map). The hotel is removed from the main attractions of Osaka, but we found plenty to explore on foot in the vicinity. Staff was friendly and spoke English. Our room was perfectly cozy, clean, and inviting. The bed was very firm, which I like. The pillows were rock solid and rather uncomfortable. There is a restaurant on site, but we took to the streets. There's a small handful of restaurants at the JR Station across the street, and many more options to choose from wandering the narrow streets just south of the hotel, which is what we did. We were taking a late afternoon train to Kyoto next day, and the hotel staff graciously held our bags for us after checkout so that we could further explore the city unencumbered. Fairly priced. I would definitely stay here again.
