Mixed Blood Theatre

I saw the first ever Project Nunway by the Ladies of the Lake. Seats were good, a little slim for a plus size person but it wasn't the worst. Careful on the steps, a few people tripped. But the show was great, the venue was intimate and accommodating.

Great low-key venue for all kinds of live productions. A lovely part of the west bank theater scene.

We arrived 5 min late to our 5:30 showing due to extreme traffic. The man at the front (tall, balding) was extremely rude and dismissive. When I asked to use the bathroom, he said, “At this point, you might as well just skip the whole show.” Completely unacceptable. We had paid for our seats weeks in advance and this was a special event. I ended up having to leave 15 min in due to a health issue. A kind chaperone later let me upstairs without a problem—proving the front man’s behavior was unnecessary. I've been to every theater in Minneapolis and never been treated this way. Mixed Blood needs to address this. If your employees are not able to handle the most basic human needs of the audience and it's a familiar with the most fundamental etiquette you need to find somebody else, I won't be coming because of him. Unacceptable

Such an amazing company doing really interesting work, and making it wildly accessible through free tickets and accessibility features. Great folks doing cool things, definitely worth checking out.

Beautiful venue to see a performance! I loved being in the house at any show at mixed blood. Particularly for fringe- it has the best amenities :)

Had my first visit this weekend and I loved my entire experience. I came for the show “Imagine the US without Racism”. The building is easy to find and ample street and parking lot parking around the building. Entering the building they check your Covid vaccine and have mask if you left yours at home. The seating is like an amphitheater but small abs intimate. Any seat in the building you feel like you are in the front rows. The script and actors was phenomenal. There were some tear provoking moments. Afterwards a group from my university was Able to meet with a theater director and discuss the play. I would highly recommend experiencing a show here. I will be back soon!

Mixed Blood is a gem. Minnesota is so lucky to have such a vibrant theater scene.

Parking available across the street in zone 590 and limited handicapped parking in the close lot. Gender neutral 1 person restrooms on the second floor with elevator. Very friendly staff and a great show with a passionate cast.

I enjoyed my time at this theater. It's an old skool, classic looking theater, right on the cusp of the 7-corners area and Riverside. There is ample parking all around. (It's literally on the otherside of a parking lot behind the Red Sea) There are lots and ample street parking. When you first walk in, it looks old and left in it's original form. However, the elevator and upstairs tell another story, which have been renovated. I went for an all black improv that shows 1x a month and they provided a funny take on world events, but through a black persons lens. Everyone enjoyed themselves. It was a nice mixed crowd. I will definitely check out this theater in the future.

Parking: be prepared to pay at the surface lot or drive around for street parking. Entryway: this throws off a lot of people because the walkway to the front door isn't intuitive - you feel like you're walking towards the back of the building but just find the walkup ramp and that will lead you to the door. I've seen a few shows here and have enjoyed each one. I appreciate the structural integrity that still shows its original use, a firehouse. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, which is great for viewing but the seats themselves are just OK. I'd say a 1.5 hour show is the max time I can sit in their seats without growing fidgety.

Saw Avenue Q here and overall I like this theater. Let's start with the cons and save the good stuff for last. This theater has unassigned seating so there's no guarantee you'll get the seat you want unless you get there early. The theater is small, however, and most seats are good seats. This theater is also in the ghetto, so leave the lexus at home. I can't say I had a problem here, but it's a sketchy neighborhood. Free parking is also tricky to come by, so plan on paying in the lot across the street or driving around for awhile. I like this theater because the quality of the show I saw was great. From the sound to the set to the acting and signing, it was a really great production. The theater feels intimate and it's fun to really see the actors faces on stage! I also appreciated that the chairs had cushion, they were not hard like many other small theaters.

I've now been to four or five shows at the mixed blood theater. I absolutely love this place! Every time I go here the inside looks like a totally new theater. I love their focus on social justice and underrepresented groups. The events I have been to here have been diverse in thought, and actors and actresses, and in the very messages that are being conveyed. I love their concept of radical hospitality which ensures that everyone, yes, everyone can come and see theater. It makes me proud to be a member of this amazing place! I can't wait for the upcoming shows for the rest of the season and all of the seasons in the future.

First visit there for any theater and I would say that mixed blood is proud to put on so so rough shod productions that are of sometimes amateur and even elementary. They read overly simplistic scripts directly from the scripts apparently while the script itself is overly simplifying complex politically charged topics which might only contribute further to political tension; which I believe was exactly contrary to their good intentions. They might have other amazing productions, I was just surprised that any adult audience theater would produce something this over simplified.

This is a great little independent theater. I recently saw Hir here and strongly recommend it!! The theater is small and intimate. Setting is ok, not super comfortable but all seats have a great view. The Radical Hospitality program is a great perk if you are willing to go early and hedge your bets. Its not a great neighborhood, so keep that in mind. The building and location definitely have character though. Overall, I absolutely recommend this theater and will be back for another play!

The location of the theater was not what I expected, but the exterior of the building did match up to what I expected on the inside. It's a very old building and the bathrooms were a bit creepy to me. I believe you turned on the light with a string?? And there were bugs crawling around on the walls. As far as the theater itself, it was very small and I guess it didn't matter where you sat because you can see everything. It's for a low budget production and I can't even remember the name of the show...so you know how memorable that was. I'm not quite sure if I'd want to see a show there again.

Despite a cramped and crowded front box office, horrible bathroom situation and very uncomfortable chairs Mixed Blood still gets five stars from me for two very important reasons. First off they are the best theater in town with regard to telling the stories of so many diverse communities with such great performances. Some highlights over the years have been "In the Time of the Butterflies" "Vestibular Sense" "Indian Cowboy" and "Ruined." Secondly, their radical hospitality policy which guarantees the widest possible access to the theater for the community!

Great, innovative theater with smart social commentary. Venue is a remodeled firehouse. Bathrooms are single-stall, gender-neutral rooms.

A jem in a diverse neighborhood. Saw Mu Performing Arts Production of Four Destinies there, it was amazing!

This is one of those local performance companies that always has something unconventional by a local artist troupe happening.

Saw the preview of Next to Normal and it was fantastic! Great space too.

The building is old, they don't seem to spend money on updating the place- BUT they put on great thought provoking shows and I am not one that allows an old building or the cedar-riverside area from stopping me. As a single woman- I haven't had any issues going to shows there. The artists are top notch and the productions are relevant and meaningful. The newest show "Pussy Valley" is very good. Great site lines from all seats for a small theater. If you are too good to be in a place that is a little rundown- stay in your suburban oasis.
