Lovely experience with such a light atmosphere and lovely coffee. I had the coconut macaroon which was amazing and toasted to perfection. Such a cute little store to stop by ans pick up a few items or just have some food or coffee even. Very appreciative of the store and the members who work here for providing a great experience.

Google
I love this place and I would go here more often if the parking lot wasn’t such a struggle for my low clearance vehicle. Surely there is an investor, who loves this place too, who would invest in fixing their parking lot? Plus Vinaigrette is the best place in town to get a salad and one has to drive thru the same lot. I’ve always found it so funny that people are willing to pay these prices yet still have to drive thru the potholes lol. Like they have just accepted it.

Google
My girlfriends and I met up from Chicago, LA and Denver and came here twice during a 3-day weekend. Whoever curated the store has amazing taste. We enjoyed coming here for breakfast and just for cookies and chai. The ginger cookie was a fan fav. The breakfast rice bowl could use a little umami flavor but no complaints, we will be back on our next trip!

Google
I do like the atmosphere here, it is quite nice to sit and eat or enjoy a coffee in this space. Bright and lots of charm. But the prices here are high, even for Santa Fe. If I'm being honest, I don't feel I've ever paid so much for so little. The fact that the kitchen closes two hours before the store does is also a bit odd, so be prepared for that. Finally, as others have noted, the service is not particularly warm or friendly. This has been the case on multiple visits. I know being in service is tough, but when it's a pattern, I wonder if management isn't treating staff well or what else might be going on. In any case, all these factors make me unable to recommend it at this time, despite the fact it's a lovely space. I wish them the best and hope management takes a closer look.

Google
First off, everything tasted great. The granola bowl was fantastic. One note: the Albuquerque scramble is covered with bacon. That wasn’t mentioned in the menu description, and it meant my boyfriend wasn’t able to eat it. I scraped off the meat and the scramble itself tasted good, but they really need to add that to the description. I ordered ahead for pickup, and I’m glad I did because there was a long slow moving line inside.

Ate here for 3 days during my trip. The lemon curd cakes were my favorite. Amazing selection of books! Books + breakfast - what could be better!

Google
Interesting concept with cafe and store in one. Wide selection of books and gifty stuff plus gardening stuff. Not the best place for coffee, but the coconut pancakes were really yummy I went back from them before leaving town. Loved their selection of books.

Google
Very pleased with both the food and service, not to mention the great atmosphere! My wife and I will definitely be going back soon. Must try the roasted tomato and mozzarella sandwich, it is amazing!! Next time I will definitely be trying some of the delicious looking treats, cookies, pumpkin bread, etc.

Yelp
Obsessed is the only way to describe my impression of our first visit here!! We ordered some coffees, the savory green chile cakes, and the lemon blueberry sweet pancakes. The savory cakes were to die for and so unique!! Haven't ever had the chance to have anything like that before! The sweet pancakes were also delightful!! Overall this space has awesome natural light, beautiful high ceilings and cool art and books that you can also buy. Service was helpful and quick!! Can't wait to come back and try more!! Such a gem!!

Yelp
I'm from NYC and these prices are ridiculous. A to-go breakfast sandwich and coffee cost me $19. Your average bodega could turn something out in half the time and price. If you are rich and into the GOOP aesthetic go here, for average folks seeking standard fare, look elsewhere.

Yelp
I still love modern general but I've been back a couple times when the food wasn't that great. It seems like there is a real problem with consistency right now.

Yelp
The hubs and I came here first thing when they opened and good thing because it quickly filled up. It should be noted that we felt like we had walked into Rose's apothecary but with the addition of food and coffee. I started with a cold shot of ginger, apple and honey. It was fresh pressed and wonderful. Then the hubs and I both got oat milk cappuccinos which were pretty perfect. For my main I did the chia oats with granola, raspberries and passion fruit curd. I was so happy with my choice - absolutely delicious and I'll be attempting a recreation back at home. The hubs did the stir fried rice with veggies and an egg. It was a pretty large portion and he sadly could only eat half although it was awesome and packed full of flavor. Service was friendly and this is a place to put on your must try list when you have a little time to sit back and relax.

Yelp
I was excited to check this location out since the Albuquerque location is no longer open. A note for anyone driving here: the parking lot is in a terrible state of disrepair, with numerous large potholes. Go slowly. A further note: While the interior is aesthetically pleasing, the chairs are not in great condition, and actually ripped my partner's skirt when she sat down. Be careful. The seating is poorly thought out, with numerous tables for two, but just a single table for groups above that number to share. These caveats aside food itself is generally quite good, and worth a stop despite the above issues if you're looking for brunch. I particularly recommend the coconut macaroon, and pho-sole. Head straight back in and order at the counter.

Yelp
Modern General is near the hotel I was staying at and as I walked into town and back every day, I would pass it. I think it has a really cute interior. Locals seem to go there and get some work accomplished, instead of working from home. So, I love that they have that option available to them. On my first visit, I tried the gingered apple juice. I got a regular size. It was so good! I loved it so much that I went back the next day and got a large. It's pretty pricey for juice, but it was also really really good! Freshly pressed. Mmmm.

Yelp
My daughter and I enjoyed a great little trip to Santa Fe on a beautiful fall extended weekend. One morning we enjoyed brunch at Modern General. We were staying at the El Rey Court, and Modern General was on the same street and also close. My daughter ordered the Lemon Cakes and loved them! They were tart, light and fluffy. The Lemon Cakes were layered with lemon curd and smothered with a blueberry compote, and then drizzled with their signature buttercream. Oh my! Very yummy! I ordered their "Best BLT". It was classic and excellent, with juicy fresh tomatoes, crisp romaine lettuce, thick bacon, and served on sourdough bread. It was a quiet and cute place. The tables were situated among a simple shop. The food was very good. If you visit Santa Fe, be sure to stop at Modern General for a healthy and tasty brunch!

Yelp
We were lucky enough to find a table for 5 on a Saturday morning. This place is very cute! While waiting for my food, I walked around and tried really hard not to shop. There are lots of cute curated items in all varieties. The food is very delicious. The blends of flavours are unique but really tasty. The only reason why it's not a 5/5 is because I thought it was pretty overpriced for how much food you got.

Miranda S.

Yelp
Biggest takeaway here is that half their menu is pancakes and they can't make them. I ordered the coconut cakes and they came out with batter in the middle. Politely sent it back and was given a different plate of even less cooked pancakes. Literally inedible both times. I can still taste the batter in the back of my throat. Looks cool until you notice the decade old aesthetic and dying plants. Everything for sale is $20 more expensive than it's worth. The menu is limited and even more limited when you take into account that are out of many ingredients and cannot cook the dishes until they are done. The whole place is run by what look like teenagers so the service was spotty.

Yelp
The Albuquerque scramble is simple and very tasty with salty bits of bacon adding a bit of crunchy texture. A filling and satisfying breakfast (from someone who doesn't eat breakfast Lol)

Yelp
Cute little shop with easy to find parking with their own lot of 4-6 spaces. It's a mix of a small store with plenty of seating and a huge picnic table to house a large party. Seems like also a great spot to study and simple coffee shop vibes. You must get the Green Chile Cilantro Corncake, looks very similar to a pancake but the texture is different. Loved this out of the set my friends got. Savory and not too spicy evened out by the slight sweetness of the syrup. This was fantastic and the runny Sunnyside egg made my morning brighter. The flavors together came and paired so well together. There was also another corncake that my friend ordered that was similar to okonomiyaki and quite good too! Would come back just the green chiles cilantro corncake, so good and satisfying.

Yelp
Sadly, my exhalted review of this place is no longer valid. I know that they recently lost their WONDERFUL manager (a week ago) but I had no idea it would decline so quickly. I've gone by twice now, in a week. First time was at opening & the kitchen was dark... no food. Today we went by & their refrigerated counter display is out of order and, more shocking, THEY HAVE NO COFFEE!? It will be a while before I go back.... I'll give them another chance in the summer. I hope they can get it together. I loved this spot for breakfast/ lunch. :(

Yelp
Couldn't try it all in one visit.... but we wanted to! Check out my photo of the menu and see the amazing possibilities!!! The Lemon Cakes were scrumptious! The Red Pepper SonoranCakes were luscious! The Cafe au lait was spot on in strength and milk, with the house coffee being a fantastic cup for those who who want a simpler cup of delicious warmth! I grabbed a fresh juice to go! And they have incredible smoothies too! Even more cool are all the unusual books, home and kitchen items available in the general store on the premises! It was like a eye-candy store!! Also check out my photo of the awesome mural that is right outside the windows of the restaurant! Enjoy!! You gotta get to Modern General Feed and Seed!

Yelp
Ok, i've been coming here for years -- over e as Christmas usually but other times as well. I just had two visits in the last two days and it feels like you guys are slightly off your game. The food is good, but slightly lacking. I miss the cold sherbet with the teff cakes. The help seems a little bit clueless and not totally focused. I realize it's not quite holiday and it's an in between time but I hope things get back to 5000%. I always recommend to friends traveling to Santa Fe. ***also just stopped again (the 3rd visit in 2days) and Chai Lattes to-go were lukewarm. I asked if there was a way to hear them and was told no.

Yelp
They have some unique "pancakes" and bowls. Our party ordered a little of this and that. Everyone enjoyed their dishes (except the kids since this was a little too foodie-ish, fancy for them.) I had the Asian bowl ... fried rice with an egg. This is my go-to, comfort dish at home. Tthey really stepped up the flavors so I was a happy camper. All the adults who ordered the "pancakes" raved about how light, unique and flavorful they were. One of the kids ordered the avocado toast... and it was just that... lots and lots of mashed avocado on 2 pieces of bread (toast). They do not skimp on the avocado. So... if you like avocado... get this. As for drinks... they have really good black coffee. They can make plain lattes and a lavender latte but no others. They also have fresh juices that they make right there... we didn't try any, but they looked and sounded delightful. They also had cookies. Since I didn't drink my calories in a latte, I opted to get a chocolate cookie with pepitas. YUM! Glad I only had 1. It was not overly sweet but had a great deep chocolate flavor and the pepitas were a nice and different nut-crunch-taste.

Yelp
Really yummy! Love all the fresh ingredients used. Would totally come back again for a fun, healthy and casual breakfast.

Yelp
Modern General came highly recommended to us by friends who had visited, so we stopped in here eager to see what all the hype was about this "healthy, trendy brunch spot." The food was so yummy and did a great job of incorporating the Santa Fe cuisine (e.g. green Chile) throughout. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast biscuit which was "one of the best breakfast biscuits" he ever had, as the biscuit itself "melts in your mouth." It's also a nice touch that they included some lime avocado chia pudding on the side to sample. I ordered the Albuquerque scramble and it was AMAZING. As mentioned, the green Chile added so much flavor without making the eggs too spicy. It was delicious, but not too heavy for a breakfast dish. We also ordered a cappuccino and oat milk latte, both of which were well done-- only question is, why no handle on the mugs? Was a bit too hot to drink/hold for a while. The ambiance is STUNNING and definitely adds to the experience of dining in. There are books on all different topics, plants, cooking items, gardening tools, cosmetics, local art that you can peruse through. Makes it feel very home-y and like you can really take your time there and enjoy.

Yelp
This place is awesome. If you're seeking a healthy AND delicious meal, look no further. Tip: Definitely not great for big groups and you may have to do a pivot to find available seating. At least this was our experience when single persons took over 4 tips to themselves.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious and plant based forward and the atmosphere was unique and fun. The service was friendly and pleasant.

Yelp
We stumbled onto this place when looking on Yelp for a quick lunch in Santa Fe off the I-25 on our way to Albuquerque. The interior "farmhouse" ambience/vibe was so fresh, clean and appealing. The retail areas were so well merchandised and it was fun to take it all in. I had the curry chicken salad sandwich. It was a generous portion with fresh baked bread. The artisan lemonade/ fresh mint iced tea was delicious! This place is counter service and the food came out quickly which was just what we were looking for.
google avatar

Ryen B.

Yelp
Super cute place with menu items you don't find elsewhere. The acai pancakes were tasty and iced oat milk latte perfect with crushed ice. But my fave was the lime-avocado chia pudding. It's topped with black sesame coriander granola (yum!!), passion fruit curd (just the right amount of sweet), and the sweetest fresh raspberries I've tasted in a long time. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, highly recommend.
google avatar

Logan U.

Yelp
This is a good restaurant if you like taking pictures of your food rather than eating it. We asked the woman at the counter multiple times what was vegan. She said she didn't know. Then she suggested a broth dish that was based on bone broth. We finally settled on two items she assured us were vegan. When the food came 20 minutes later the server told us none of the items were vegan. We then had to start over with ordering again. The staff is unknowledgeable and uncaring. This is a place that wants to sell you books about mushrooms and worm composting businesses but doesn't even know what ingredients are in the food they sell. Don't come.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Was there several times in early November, 2022. First thing you see are the warm, bright yellow accents and light woods - it's a relaxed, simple and lovely space. I was there for breakfast three times - each time I got the lime avocado chia pudding with granola and I'd get it everyday if I could! The flavors were so good with just the right amount of sweetness and lime curd to perk up your tastebuds. I saw a lot of other delicious looking things come out, I'll just have to try them in the future. I did email asking for their granola recipe and I still have hope that they send it to me! My daughter had the avocado toast with smoked salmon and says it was very good and she enjoyed the variety of smoothies the offered - the fruit taste was very fresh!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has some healthy delicious brunch with savory pancakes. I had a delicious one with kale and cabbage. Wife a red pepper one...son had a sweeter lemon cake. Soooooo hood. But omg their buttermilk biscuits are southern style and unbelievable. Good coffee too. Browse the books and other items while you wait.

Melissa T.

Yelp
$33 for 2 basic BLT's...waited 40 minutes for these sandwiches to find out the avocado we paid extra for also wasn't in them.. soooo, waited another 15 minutes for them to add that. I do t get the appeal. But Santa Fe has low standards anyway so it fits! Saw an elderly woman with a walker waiting for a table since people take up tables for hours to sit on their computer...a group of 20 something's came in and before even ordering swiped the only table someone was leaving as well. Very frustrating experience in every way.

Julie H.

Yelp
This is our second time eating here (just passing through on a road trip) and both times the food has been EXCELLENT. I could eat the lox toast every day of my life. We picked up the food to go and the whole thing was ready in under 25 minutes. Next time we drive through (or stay) in Santa Fe, we'll be eating here again.

Yelp
WOW. Ok so we many have been a bit... extra hungry the morning after a wedding, but this place really hit the spot. Located in a general store-looking space, this little breakfast cafe also sells a lot of local goods focused on the home. Kitchen items, gardening tools, coffee-table books. The whole shebang. They specialize in savory pancakes, and that's exactly what we went for. Both of us got the Green Chile Cilantro Corncakes. Oh. My. Gosh. Perfect corn cake flavor, and the saltiness of the green Chile and crema went perfectly. The egg on top added some more savory-ness, and the agave syrup was the perfect sweet addition. This was a party in my mouth! Great artisan coffee as well. And we got a souvenir for our friends as well!
google avatar

Shailey K.

Yelp
3.5 stars. We got the morning fried rice and the green Chile cilantro savory cake. We also ordered a coffee and juice. The green Chile cilantro savory cake & fried rice was delicious. The juice was good but too $$ for the quantity. I wouldn't recommend the coffee. They are also dog friendly which is always a plus! :)
google avatar

Chelsey C.

Yelp
This place exudes a fantastic ambiance and offers an array of captivating small goods. The food presentation is visually appealing and enticing. However, my experience took a disappointing turn when the smoothies I ordered were forgotten during a not busy Monday afternoon. Unfortunately, there was no apology extended for the oversight.

Maki Y.

Yelp
cool young ambiance. the menu is unique and healthy, the service is courteous and relatively fast. They have many items to sell around the store so you can look around while you wait for your food.
google avatar

Sharay S.

Yelp
A really beautiful space, and an equally as eclectic menu. I ordered the supercakes that were delicious and filling. The drink options seemed pretty pricey to me, but I tried the chai and didn't feel super impressed by the flavor. There were many other options that I think would've been a better option and I would love to try at a return visit. The service was efficient and timely and parking was easy to find.
google avatar

Monica V.

Yelp
Like the name implies, this is a general store and also a cafe in one. It's a super cute one stop shop if you're looking for items to plant, a new book or a neat gift idea and you can grab a healthy bite to eat too. I had a delicious kale and pineapple smoothie to start. This was very refreshing and not too sweet or kale flavored which I loved. I also had the red pepper sonoracakes that were just as described on the menu with some lox, chive sour cream and a sweet pepper syrup. They were so good!

Faith R.

Yelp
Terrible, terrible service. The food order didn't go back to the kitchen apparently, and everyone working was just casually chatting with each other (chefs included) while customers looked on for 20 minutes wondering why their food wasn't coming. Ultimately they discovered the issue but did nothing, no apologies, seemed irritated that customers were wondering where their food was. Definitely steer clear.

Brooks B.

Yelp
Customer service 1 star. Food 3 stars (you pay that much for a BLT you expect bacon that doesn't look like it was cooked the day before). Ordered hot tea...waited and waited for it...got up to check on it and it was just sitting there and the gal behind the counter who was chatting up a storm w/another co-worker said "oh yea". Oh yea, won't be going back again.
google avatar

MaKenzie K.

Yelp
This place was so cute and so delicious! Apologies for including a filtered Instagram photo of the food but it was the only picture I had and I wanted to show you how delicious it was. I didn't get the fried rice breakfast, but my friend did and it was by far my favorite. Definitely go here!

T H.

Yelp
I am a pretty big pancake snob and I have to say these were literally the best I've ever had. Ever. The cappuccino was great as well. And all set in an adorable general store and garden shop. I'm here for a week and I will be back!
google avatar

Benjamin F.

Yelp
What a neat spot! So cool, yet welcoming. There are just some places that get a person excited about food. This is one such place. Books line the walls as well as fancy kitchen accoutrements. The space is wide open with tables along the sides out of the way. It's a smallish space (like a really fancy, civilized barn) that makes maneuvering quite easy still, somehow. You order all the way in and there are tasty, creative options for food and beverages. I got a cacao and mushroom beverage that wasn't sweet, didn't taste strangely mushroomy and worked well wirh oat milk recommended by the server, but not on the main posted menu. It was quite lovely. It's the kind of place where one can relax and consider life, what food means and knowingly pay a lot for some kitchen utensil. I'm not saying anything is overpriced, just that the whole setup is so nice, welcoming and accessible that I might happliy overpay. It's got that level of positivity. Can't wait to get back in there and try more!
google avatar

Jon K.

Yelp
Located right next to our hotel The Sage. Based on previous Yelpers I got the Supercakes which was amazing. I also got the sweet greens juice which was fresh and healthy. Finally, for dessert i got the peanut butter sesame cookie. Unique and tasty. Great music and laid back vibe inside. Friendly atmosphere all around. Nice items in the shop as well. Everything I got here was great and tasted fresh and healthy. By far the best breakfast I've had in Santa Fe on my trip. Highly recommended!

Cheryl P.

Yelp
Beautiful, delicious food. We ate breakfast here two days in a row and would have gone a third time but they were closed (even though the website said they'd be open). We had the Albuquerque Scramble, Green Chile Corn Cakes, Egg Biscuit Sandwich, Chia Pudding, Drip Coffee and Cappuccino and all were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is bright and airy. The only thing that was a little off was that the staff does not seem very happy and were not very friendly or welcoming.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
Cute, bright, farmhouse feel with nutritious food and drinks. I got the curry chicken salad sandwich which was great. I also got the basil coconut smoothie. It took me a few sips to get into it since the combination was different than I'm used to, but it was good.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
Cool place for breakfast. Ordered the Albuquerque scramble and glad of it. My wife had the lemon pancakes which we shared.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible. 10/10 recommend. I had the green Chile cilantro corn cakes and they are life changing. Also had the immunity juice which was wonderful.

Yelp
I hate trendy places that are more design than product. (Disclaimer: I only bought two beverages here and the food plates that I saw come out looked tasty.) The plain coffee was fine. I ordered the London De-fogger for $7. I asked the barista what the lion's mane ingredient was and she couldn't really tell me. You'll see in the description there's no mention of milk. It is served with lots of steamed milk and a little foam. Beware if you are lactose intolerant or don't use dairy products as there is no notice. It tasted good. I had her put a little less lavender in it as I don't prefer very sweet and she told me the lavender syrup makes it sweet. Did it defog me? Not sure but I felt compelled to write my review while finishing my drink and not waiting!

Rochelle R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food. You can also shop for local handmade gifts. I tried the chocolate chubby cookie - brownie texture with walnuts. It was amazing.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were passing through Santa Fe a few weeks ago and after a stop at the farmers market, I rerouted us here in search of a healthy nosh. It was takeout only due to quarantine restrictions, but omg was I glad I got to try it: -Supercakes - 10/10 -Sweet Green Juice - 9/10 -Peanut butter sesame cookie - 7/10 The supercakes honestly tasted like they were a healthy cousin of the scallion pancake. I died, so good. I also usually hate green juice, but I made my boyfriend get it (low risk to me, you know) and then I drank most of it. Relationships, am I right? Cookie wasn't for me since it was hard and I'm a chewy gal, but flavors were good. I wish I had been able to walk around the store more because it was 10/10 cute and would be a perfect place to buy gifts (books, beauty products etc). I'd like to live here - thanks!

Yelp
The savory pancakes were unique but the customer service is cold and not friendly, the worker was not familiar with their own drinks

Yelp
So freakin cute. Food is cute. Ambiance, cute. All the little things in the shop, cute. All around. Supppessss cute
