I recently visited Möðrudalur á Fjöllum on a winter trip, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. During my stay, I walked approximately 35 km in the surrounding area near the hotel, exploring the vast highland landscape in truly ideal conditions. The weather was excellent, clear and calm, which made the winter hiking both safe and unforgettable. The scenery was powerful and serene at the same time—wide open spaces, snow-covered terrain, and a sense of isolation that is hard to find elsewhere in Iceland. What truly elevated the experience was the outstanding service. The hospitality was warm, professional, and genuinely caring. After long winter hikes, returning to such a welcoming place made a huge difference and added greatly to the overall comfort and enjoyment of the trip. Möðrudalur á Fjöllum is a perfect base for winter adventures in the Icelandic highlands. Whether you are there for long-distance walking, nature photography, or simply to experience the silence and beauty of the interior, I can highly recommend it. This is a place that stays with you long after you leave.

This was our favorite place that we stayed during our 9 day Iceland trip. It was very unique, the staff was great. The room was clean and nice sized. It was fun to see the animals and buildings as we walked around outside. It is about 5 minutes off of the main road, but worth the drive. Dinner and breakfast at the restaurant were both delicious.

On our ring road adventure last week we decided to take a detour to rest at this spot. We were not disappointed. Friendly staff. Perfectly great accommodation. We were self sufficient with power and food so we only used WC (bathroom) and sleeping. However the unique cooking facilities would have been fun in my opinion! The shower spaces and toilets were clean and plentiful. The goats are friendly and surprisingly soft! The reindeer and bunnies are a little more elusive. A camp dog (black lab) greeted us and we were happy to share a moment relaxing with him. Too bad we already had food to use in our camper van because the breakfast buffet smelled amazing ! Nice little community. A fun respite. And pretty good sunset the night we stayed.

We had a very pleasant stay here. The check in was at the restaurant, the rooms were actually 2 minutes away by car. There was a fully equipped kitchen in the house, everything was clean. We also saw a reindeer and the northern lights from there.

I stayed 2 nights at Fjalladyrð - one night in the guesthouse and one night in the camping cabin. Service is great - check in available until midnight in the summer. Location is great for heading into or out of the Highlands. The dogs and reindeer around the property were cute. There were also rabbits under the guesthouse patio! The guesthouse is well appointed. Our room was comfortable and the kitchen was a nice size and very clean. There was a coffee maker to make filter coffee. We had breakfast which was good - English breakfast items along with continental fare - including fresh bread. The camping cabin was a nice set up - not far from the bathrooms. I wish the heater gave off a bit more heat - but it was adequate to keep us from freezing. The only catch - some tent campers set up in the parking area for the cabins. 😅 I booked directly with their website and all went smooth. I hope to visit again.

A hidden gem close to Myvatn that you shouldnt miss. Great local food specialties, eg lamb soup, moss soup and all kinds of local delicacies. Super cute atmosphere. Even if google maps says that the road is closed to the farm, it’s open and easy to access even in snow. If you are lucky, you will see the reindeer that comes to visit the farm

Do not miss this gem! It’s only about 4 miles off of the main road and well worth the extra drive. Everyone is so nice and the farm is charming. There is a family of arctic foxes that live on the farm, as well as a hilarious reindeer. The setting for camping is beautiful. The kitchen, and such are “ok” but we didn’t need them. Would much rather stay here than a big campground with more robust facilities. Also make sure to purchase one of their “homemade donuts”. Incredible!

The property is quite large yet charming, and there are great views/places to hang out and enjoy the scenery. There are also cute animals such as artic foxes, reindeer, cat, and bunnies, roaming the property; however, it feels like they are used as props to attract guests (staff feeds the artic foxes to draw them to the property, domesicated reindeer sits in front of the restaurant as people try to pet it). ||We were a group and some stayed in the chalet, which was cozy and cute, while some of us (myself included) stayed in the single rooms, which are very stark and depressing and felt like army barracks. There was absolutely no charm, and the rooms were freezing cold in September. Also, whenever I turned on the bathroom sink, the water would quickly back up and rise from the shower drain. I enjoyed the farm grounds, but I hated my room and cannot recommend staying here.
