Moio's Italian Pastry Shop

Moio’s made our wedding cake for our November wedding and they were so wonderful! We worked with Tony and he made everything so easy for us. We are from out of town and decided to make a last-minute trip up to PA to meet with vendors, and Tony went out of his way to find time to meet with us. I gave him a rough idea of what design I wanted for our cake, and he made that vision come to life! The cake was unbelievably beautiful… and delicious! We got SO many compliments on the flavor of the cake, with many people asking to take some home. I couldn’t have dreamed of a more stunning cake.

I stopped in after being out of state for a few years. The easiest way to describe my return experience is that Moio's brought me back to a happy place I fondly remember. That place is in the front seat covered in canolli crumbs wearing a smile. I tried a variety of new things with the same effect. Never once have I experienced disappointment here.

The owner, Tony is incredibly friendly and accommodating! The prices are amazing and the cakes are to die for🤤we had our wedding cake by them in October. The whole process was awesome! They were always available to communicate with us and answer any questions we had. They just gained new lifelong customers and we plan on ordering from them again. Please use them if you are in need of quality desserts!!!

In a word - wow. I have tried bakeries in NYC, Chicago, DC, Miami, Italy, and France. For me, Moio's 1-2 punch is that it all tastes fresh and not too sweet, but the perfect amount of sweetness. I had the incomparable **ricotta-chocolate cannoli,** most are too sweet with filling that is too dense. This cannoli is light, refreshing, and delicious. The **orange-mandarin cake** was equally fresh with the perfect amount of sweetness. Lastly, the **Pasticciotti** combined a delicious crispy and soft crust layer with an inner custard filling that was fantastic- it reminded me of the taste and consistency of the Early Grey cream puff at Bibble & Sip in NYC. The only picture I have - because I write reviews once every 5-10 yrs, is the empty bag of the three items I savored today, sorry. Go in-person and try *every item* @ Moio's. The staff (especially Kristie, sorry about spelling) is fantastic - patient, friendly, and kind. I even got a free cannoli bite-sized sample to try- which sold me and I bought one. I will be back for more.

​We had the best experience with Moio's Bakery this week, and I had to share the story. ​For our parents' 40th wedding anniversary today, we asked Moio's to recreate their actual wedding cake—the same one they had exactly four decades ago, also made by the bakery. It was a chocolate cake with a raspberry center and classic white buttercream icing. ​The team absolutely nailed it! ​When we brought the cake out, our parents were completely surprised. Seeing that familiar cake after all this time was an awesome moment! It wasn't just a dessert-it was a trip down memory lane. The cake itself was rich, moist, and the buttercream was nice and smooth. ​We are so grateful to everyone at Moio's for the care they put into this special order. They helped us make this milestone celebration unforgettable. If you need a custom cake for a truly special occasion, this is definitely the place to go!

My husband went in to see what Italian Specialties they had for Christmas. He called me and said they had Pignulata/Struffoli. I was shocked and told him to absolutely get one. We each just tried a piece, and it's the most horrible dessert we have ever eaten. We had to eat a pretzel just to get the bad taste out of our mouths. Not sure how they could mess up a traditional Holiday dessert, but they did. We both have had this many times growing up in Italian families, were looking forward to the flavors of honey & citrus zest. Also they ruined our Wedding cake 16 yrs ago by not doing the flavors we ordered, and they never accepted responsibility and could've cared less. Will only be supporting small bakeries moving forward!

Bought 25 pieces of individual desserts plus a Rum (Baba) cake . With the exception of a couple of bites the rum cake and 50% of the individual desserts ended up in the waste can. With the exception of the frosting every one was sooo dry inside that made the dessert very unpleasant to eat. But they were beautifully displayed and decorated. The Young ladies that helped me out may I say were very pleasant and polite.

I haven’t been to Moio’s in about 16 or so years. Everything I got today was just as good if not better than I remember. The gal that helped me was kind and let me take my time picking out cookies. I left incredibly happy and with a good amount of pastries! The Sfogliatella is just as good as the ones I’ve gotten in Italy!

4.5 stars. Moio's Italian Pastry Shop opened in 1935 and is family owned. It sells customized cakes and a wide assortment of cookies, pies, and pastries. In the past four years, my husband and I have been customers here a few times. During our first visit, we purchased mandarin orange cake, carrot cake, an apple strudel, an almond tart, and a pineapple tart. These desserts tasted delicious, but I found a 1-inch piece of plastic inside my carrot cake. The owner very kindly contacted me to apologize and to make things right. For our second visit, we bought a box of assorted cookies (4.5 stars), sfogliatelle (4.5 stars), a cherry pie (5 stars), a ladylock (4.5 stars), an eclair (4 stars), and marzipan (5 stars). Most recently, we bought a box of assorted cookies (5 stars) and a "monster cookie" (4 stars). We did not know how much the box of cookies cost until our purchase was rung up, and we felt shocked to see $45! My husband said that the price was high and that we would not come here again, but my family and friends who ate the cookies said, "so much flavor," "melts in your mouth," "you gotta try this," "delicious," "awesome," and "absolutely fantastic"!

I recently started working in the Monroeville area, and am working my way through exploring all of the local spots. I found Moio's when searching for something sweet to eat! Moio's is located in a strip mall along William Penn Highway. There is a parking lot for the complex, so it is easy to find a spot close to the entrance. The shop is not too big, but is set up in a logical way that promotes a natural flow of foot traffic. My visit was on a Friday afternoon in June around 2:00, and it was not crowded. It was right before the Fourth of July, and they had the store decorated very festively! The bakery has a ton of selection, it look me awhile to decide what I wanted! I did not try it this visit, but they had Italian Ice available since it was the weekend (they have it Friday, Saturday, Sunday, from the signage in the store). There was a variety of cakes, pies, cookies, and traditional bakery items. As expected, there are tons of Italian-style pastries as well - Ricotta Tarts, Pasticciotti, Sfogliatelle, Cannolis filled to order, and more. I also love how they sell cakes by the slice. As someone who lives in a small household, it is not realistic always to be able to finish an entire cake during its self-life. This way, I can still try the cake without wasting a ton of it! I was helped right away when I arrived, and the staff were all very friendly. Since I had never been, the girl who was helping me answered all of my questions, and gave some suggestions. It appeared that all of the staff were very kind, professional, and willing to help. I ended up ordering a plethora of items - Chocolate Custard Cannoli, Ricotta Cannoli, Key Lime Tart, Vanilla Almond Cake, Oreo Whip Cream Cake, Pasticciotti, and a Napoleon. I enjoyed trying each treat over the next few days. My personal favorites were the Cannoli and the Vanilla Almond Cake, but everything really was delicious! I love trying new treats, and got to do that with some of the more traditional Italian pastries that I purchased. In terms of value, I was very much impressed. For all of my items, it was around $25, which I thought was very fair. Overall, I am so glad that I discovered this little gem in the heart of Monroeville. I imagine that since I am now frequenting this part of town more, I will find myself here somewhat frequently. I look forward to trying more of the menu and different varieties of the items I tried this visit. I would highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area!

The best bakery around! The cakes are out of this world! Simply amazing and delicious! Everything from cannolis to cakes are top notch amazing! Very helpful, friendly and accommodating staff. The aroma of high quality fresh baked goods delights the senses as soon as you enter the store. It's very clean and well organized. The prices may give you sticker shock but as they say "You get what you pay for." And they do use to quality ingredients in everything they prepare. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed with this family run business that has been around for decades.

The clerks are borderline nasty. The old woman glares at her unfavorite customers. I never felt welcome the couple of times I've tried this place, and woe to you if you need to look around and don't know what you want. I got chocolate chip cookies, anticipating big things. I ate a cookie and didn't get anything out of it. My feeling was, "Well, I ate a cookie, and I don't want another one." If anything, their chocolate chip cookies kill your desire for chocolate chip cookies. They are strangely tasteless. And at $20 a pound, I expect a cookie that's worth that kind of extravagance. Turns out, other cookie lovers agree with me. As far as ambiance? The place brings on claustrophobia. So much is crammed into so little space that the customer is left with the impression that this bakery thinks so highly of itself that the customer should be grateful to be allowed in and leave his big bucks. As far as being Italian, they don't make anything special for traditionally Italian times, like a saint's day. The best I can say is that the baked goods are nice to look at.

Excellent cookies and pastries have been going there for many years! Each Christmas I no longer bake, simply order the ones you want and no cleanup!

Moio's is always five star amazing! Everything is delicious and always made fresh! Service is also friendly and amazing. This is our go to bakery!

Fabulous Italian bakery - they even fill the cannolis fresh for you. Super friendly workers helped us select an assortment to try. Definitely recommend for a fun treat, a party, or a gift!

All of their pastries and cakes are professional style and very tasty. The facility is as clean as can be plus, it's a family owned business.

My hubby and I were celebrating a special occasion and so I went to Moio's for the first time and got.... the chocolate cake, a cupcake, a chocolate eclair, rum cake, a devil delight and a peach boat. Last time I went in I got the TonyMisu. All delicious, very sweet. The atmosphere is so fun and you can tell it's not a chain just by the feeling of being in there and the JOY the employees have. I CAN'T WAIT TO TRY MORE. :)

Hands down best bakery in Pittsburgh. You cannot beat the homemade pastries with the best buttercream icing I've ever had. The employees are also super friendly and can guide you through all the options. Definitely a bit pricey, but made with love.

I tried their almond tart and mocha bell. Honestly, neither was very impressive. Other than the almonds on top, the almond tart wasn't really almond-ie. The crust was a bit stale. The mocha bell was better. The cream was probably the highlight. It was soft and tasted like mocha. Maybe it was because I got it towards the end of the day, the cake itself wasn't very moist and the almonds a bit stale. Overall the flavor of the Mocha Bell was good. Service was great, and I liked that they had a huge selection of treats. I would maybe try some of their other items next time.

Service is always super friendly and fast here. Always clean. Easy to find and to park. I really wanted to love this place. Service is great and it's very cute. Old school bakery. I am half Italian and from NJ so I am a little bit of a Italian Bakery snob and I heard about this place and instantly had to try it! I have tried it 3 different times (I hoped I caught it on a bad day each time because none of the attempts were anything to rave about) before reviewing it just to be sure. I just was not a fan of the things that I got. Prices are reasonable and service is friendly, the actual baked items though were just not it, for me. I tried the Italian cheesecake. Pretty bland and dense. I went back 3 times specifically trying to get the sfogliatelle because that is one of my favorite Italian desserts. Every time I went, they were sold out of them. I thought "This is a great sign! They must be AMAZING!" I finally got them and they were really just a major let down. SUPER DENSE, no real flavor and the pastry dough itself was tough. If that makes sense. Sfogliatelle are usually plump, rich, soft and flavorful. This was not that. To come back 3 times trying to obtain one and then, that? Meh. I HATE leaving a place a low rating especially when the service is always so friendly. I just was not impressed and would not recommend for authentic Italian desserts. Sorry Moio's I tried to love you.

Really adorable and amazing pastries and cookies! Authentic and fresh Italian bakery and they even have Baklava. They have gift cookie sets and amazing Mignolis! Fresh cream in all desserts. The only thing I didn't like was the pina colada cake bc the crème was thick and kind of pasty.

Moio's is one of the best old school bakeries still in existence. The service is excellent. There are always a number of workers eager to assist with your order. They are friendly and patient in working with customers. The good is excellent! I normally purchase cake slices. Although my favorite cake slice is cherry almond, I've never purchased one that was not good. I don't live in Pittsburgh, but when I travel in the direction of Monroeville, I often plan my route and time my trip so that I can stop at Moio's while traveling.

What a wonderful shop full of amazing pastries. The sheer variety of pastries and cookies and cakes is amazing. We got there 10minutes prior to it opening and there was a short line already. The staff were friendly and fast and we all got our gifts plus a few we might not have expected.

Pastries and cakes here are off the charts. Old school Italian bakery. Reminds me a lot of my great aunts and uncles cooking/baking. I got three pieces of cake, black forest, carrot, and raspberry and white. All were phenomenal and a perfect little sweet treat to end the night all week! Staff is very friendly. I would love to order a full cake from here for an event or birthday.

Delicious cakes, cookies, and pastries and the people working there are so incredibly nice! Highly recommend the rum cake and the Roman cannoli. It was pretty empty when I was there on a weekday morning but they have signs directing you where to line up so I assume it gets pretty busy!

This place is one of the best Italian bakeries around. We don't live nearby but when in Pittsburgh I make sure we stop in.

The service at Moio's is spot on, everyone is very friendly and fast. We went in two days before Christmas and the shelves were well stocked despite them being so busy. We got thumbprints, chocolate chip cookies and a fudge pecan pie. The thumbprints were good but I'm honestly very disappointed in the chocolate chip cookies and the pie. They were just not good and I love my sweets. Maybe it's a different type of recipe than I'm used to or was expecting, I'm not sure. The pie only had two slices taken out of it at Christmas Eve dinner too...

Amazing pastries and such a cute atmosphere!!! My first time there, I knew it was somewhere I'd keep coming back.

Need a good Italian bakery in the Pittsburgh area- right off Parkway East in Monroeville is Moios been visiting the bakery for years. Wedding cakes we have ordered here, cookies and cake slices. Highly recommend!!

We shared four different bars and they were all yummy ! Cream fillings were light and delectable. Rum cake, Mocha cake, Tonymisu, Black forest cake. Tis a good thing that this bakery is 10 miles away via turnpike. LOL

All their pastries are delicious. The ladies who assist you are so helpful and friendly. I moved away from the area and I sure did miss Moio's Bakery Now, when I get closer to my favorite Bakery I make sure I make the time to stop and get my favorite pastery.

I was looking for a bakery with good cake but this is NOT the place. I had a slice of carrot cake and a lady lock. Both tasted like they were made 5 days ago. The ones at shop and save taste fresher. The carrot cake was a disappointment. I love carrot cake amd the sign said it's the most popular item. It didn't taste good.

This place was packed. Social distancing corral all the way around. It was a little overwhelming since it was our first time there and there wasn't really any time to look. And the staff made ya feel kinda rushed. Stabbed in the dark and for a few things that looked and sounded good. Got one thing cuz our Italian friend ordered it haha Sfogliatelle - got it cuz our Italian friend did. It was really good. Kinda like a cream puff but flatter and not as sweet. Had a little citrus flavor. Cream puff - pretty good. Snickers white cake - so freakin good Meet would go back if we are in PA again. We were just visiting friends.

They are amazing from the staff to the products. Our son brought a pie for Thanksgiving one year and in January when we visited, we made a point to go and get another pie to bring home to friends that liked it so well and we weathered quite a snowstorm just to get the pie this is an awesome bakery with lots of variety And a great value

This is a nice gem in Monroeville on the main road. I've driven by this place many times and never went in until recently. They have really good Italian pastries and delicious Christmas pastries. The cakes are also good. I would recommend the pizzelle, torrone, or their cookies.

They have a good variety and cakes are good. They need to sell single cookies. Sometime people only want a couple not a dozen. Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

This little shop made me miss living in Pittsburgh so much! It was 9:15 a.m. a couple of days before Thanksgiving and the line was almost to the door. The ladies behind the counter were helpful, patient, AND efficient. They called me "hon" and helped me figure out what item I needed. For those of you looking for cookies (exactly what I was after). There are boxes of two dozen,four dozen, and trays of six dozen. If you just want a few of a particular type, you can pick exactly what you want. My family was so impressed with the tray I brought them and the cookies are delicious. I note that the shop, on William Penn Highway in Monroeville is practically a stone's throw away from I376 and the PA Turnpike. Cookie heaven just less than a mile away from both.

Super cute inside reminds me of a bakery on the busy streets of New York, beautiful display of pastries, the ladies in there really know what their doing, pushing out orders, and they stay focused and don't appear frazzled with all the orders and walk ins. It smelled absolutely heavenly in there, and the different pastries and desserts available very wide range. We got lady locks which were HUGE! cannolis and snowballs! Very delicious, the pastries were fresh

My sister-in-law picked up a sampler for our dessert after dinner and everything was wonderful!

This bakery is the bomb! They offer a truly unique and wonderful selection of Italian pastries and cookies. They are doing a great job during the Pandemic and offering up their delectable treats for hungry customers. We tried an assortment of things and were bowled over by how delicious everything was. My favorite were these crimped edge custard-like lemon cookies. Seriously blew my mind how delicious these were. The nut horn was super unique and so incredibly tasty. I'm sort of glad we don't live closer to this place. It could be very dangerous.

Best. Ever. Bakery. We buy all our cakes from them--our engagement, shower, wedding, cookie table, baptism, first birthday (and all others), Holy Communion... Even when we lived in Maryland but drove up for family events or we brought the cakes back to Maryland. I frequently stopped at Moio's, which was not really on the way back to Maryland after a visit back home--it always helped to remind me of home. Frequently, I'd bring back cookies for work--everyone always loved it when I'd return from Pittsburgh with a tray or box! Love the staff--super friendly, and always good for a laugh. Because it is an exceptional bakery, the lines can be long, especially before a holiday, so be patient--it's well worth the wait!

Service was quick and efficient. Tried several different pastries. Loved Roman cannoli and mandarin orange cake slice! They obviously specialize in wedding cakes, but I'll put their pastry over Oakmont any day

I hold Bethel Bakery in the highest esteem for their buttercream icing and chocolate birthday cake (and cupcakes)! And I appreciate Oakmont Bakery as a top local bakery. But I must say that Moio's consistently delivers the best Black Forrest and German Chocolate cakes that you can find in the Pittsburgh area! Perfection every time, thank you Moio's!

The location of this little bakery seems a bit unusual to me...at the end of "Main Monroeville" and nestled in a little plaza. Stopping though...was a smart idea. Yummy stuff comes from here! I was passing through town and had a taste for pastries...plus, as I was heading to my daughter's place, I figured I'd surprise her and my grandson with sweets. Walked into a covid safe shop, and was quickly attended. Unfamiliar with their wares, I simply told the lady "Gimme a bunch of good stuff - you pick!" She ran with that ball very well. Grandson loved the chocolate chip and sugar cookies. Daughter said the macaroons were divine. I tried a nut horn and...wow! Much more was left to be savored later by them, but I trust all the goodies will keep them in smiles. Oh yeah...they make some sweet delicious here! Try it...soon!

The quality of everything here definitely sets the standard for other bakeries. A+ customer service, and the items are always fresh and consistently taste really good. If the sweets don't put you in a good mood, the staff's infectious positivity and kindness certainly will!

How is it that as someone who drives around to different UPMC hospitals that I found out about this place so late in the game. I got to UPMC East practically once a day and I just found out that this is the place to go for pastries and treats. Am I not on the treat newsletter!?! Who is keeping this from me! Anyways, this was amazing. I walked in and it was treat overload for me. I could not believe that even from opening the door the smells that assaulted my nostrils. It smelled like pure heaven. I was amazed and happy and just regretting not coming with more money. I picked up some cannoli for the office and I loved it. I picked some of the plain usual ricotta and a few of with the chocolate ricotta. YUM. My office co-workers were super happy and I realized that I needed to head here more often. The pastries and other treats in the cases looked amazing. I was just sorry that I was only looking for the one thing! I suggest that this place needs to be found but more than just people out in Monroeville. It should be a destination. I know that people know about it because when I brought the box to work people were so happy and wanted in on the cannoli treats. So it is a little out of the way for me, it is in a little strip mall that can be overlooked for sure. But if you are looking for a good treat or something for guests, come here and get a box to go. You will not be disappointed.

I was visiting from Long Island and was so excited to see an Italian bakery. I couldn't have been more disappointed. I purchased a piece of the chocolate cake. It was so dry it was inedible. I also bought a cherry pastry. The pastry was dry around the outside and didn't taste fresh. The inner part was a soggy mess. The strawberry cake wasn't as dry, but the buttercream was so overdone with vanilla flavoring my daughter couldn't eat it. It was an expensive lesson. I do not recommend.

The bakers at Moios take their work seriously. Everything is made from scratch. Everything is authentic and it is fresh. They bake without preservatives and they prepare items fresh. There is some secret ingredient in their chocolate chip cookies. Maybe nutmeg? Unfortunately we live about an hour from their Monroeville store so I buy from there on special occasions. Oakmont Bakery is nice and they certainly have product but it's not an italian specialty store. They cater to the masses just as Bethel and the grocery store places. During the summers they make their limoncello in three flavors. Our favorite item is their white almond birthday or wedding cake with twice filled buttercream and rasperry filling. LIght and with taste. Honestly, everything is great. The ladies can be a bit tough at times but I take that to mean they care a lot about what they do.

Approved by my first generation Sicilian dad! Got him a 1/2 pound of cookies (sesame and pignoli were favorites) for his birthday. Service was great and prices are fantastic. I can't believe I've been in Pittsburgh for years without knowing about this place- can't wait to go again!

This bakery has some of the best cannoli I've ever had. The shells are filled fresh when ordered which is just wonderful. I went in for cookies and ended up walking out with some cannoli, a mini key lime pie, and a chocolate mousse cup as well. My son and I LOVED the chocolate mousse. This bakery is as traditional as it gets when it comes to Italian pastries. I cannot wait to go back and try their varieties of cake and pie.

Great small bakery in town. Excellent selection of pastries, cakes, cookies and pies. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Lots of choices.

We have been buying cookies, pastries, and cakes from Moio's Italian Pastry Shop for decades. So, of course, when our daughter was planning her wedding for April 2023, we thought of Moio's first. We had a wedding cake, along with sheet cakes. Moio's was great to work with. They coordinated with the wedding planner and florist to decorate the wedding cake with fresh flowers. The cakes were beautiful and delicious. Thank you, Moio's!
