Not going to sugarcoat anything about this place. I have been waiting to find a good hookah spot for my friends who love hookah, especially from the east coast, and decided to give Mojo a try. BAD IDEA. IMMEDIATELY I was embarrassed as I walked through the door, and the host said that my group and I were not allowed in because "she was too drunk," and pointed to me before even greeting me and without even looking at me. I had just got off work, and being in the service industry myself, I felt that was uncalled for and unfair to say. Alternatively, I did say if intoxication was the case, to please seat my friends, and I could walk to a nearby diner to get food, and come back to my friends.
He still pressed the issue and asked what time I would be back while not allowing us inside. I actually left swiftly and pretty upset, and said out loud that they were discriminating based on demographics. The server, who was closing up a patio table outside overheard me, and in response said to me, "yes we do." LOUD AND CLEAR.
Full disclosure, I'm an LA native and it's so sad that I truly believe that this establishment did not allow us in because we are people of color. I was truly embarrassed for even trying to bring my friends here. Based on this experience (literally within an hour of this post) i feel that this establishment didn't take kindly to us for the wrong reasons.
