Definitely the best gelato in the world! If you love ice cream or gelato, you should make your way to Ruvo and taste this gelato! I respect Giulana who makes the gelato everyday with love and tradition from 1840. I respect her love and experience and you can taste this experience for sure in every bite. Uses high quality materials, makes big portions and the best taste... We watched the documentary from YouTube and wanted to give it a shot, totally higher than our expectations. Recommended for all ice cream lovers. This place is like the Mecca of Gelato I would say!

I took the Mokambo Ultimate Experience and was pleasantly surprised with all the knowledge I obtained in this Gelateria. First, we were taught how to make Gelato the traditional way and all the tricks that make their Gelato the best in the world. Next, we learned about all the top tier ingredients they use such as Iran Saffron which is extremely expensive and the full family history of the gelateria which was really interesting. We then had guided tastings of different chocolates they use followed by tastings of every gelato they have. Finally, we had the star of the show the King’s Scepter. This gelato is Iran saffron flavored and is the best gelato I’ve ever had and probably the best in the whole world. It is so good, I am still thinking about it and feel like I am ruined from being able to fully enjoy any gelato except this one. I highly recommend booking this experience. Even if you have to travel from very far away it is well worth it!

shambles. scammed. absolute debarkle. After waiting outside I was expecting legendary gelato, but the only thing I got served was a rotten attitude and flavourless overpriced gelato. In my Italy trip so far I've tasted magnificent flavours such as Dubai chocolate, pomegranate and pistachio, even gorgonzola. These sent my taste buds on life altering adventures, and often set me back only €2.80 for a hearty portion. Avoid this shop at all costs and take your taste buds and earnings elsewhere. You won't find me paying to be treated rudley by patronising staff and bland gelato ever again. - Millie (from London)

Stop here!!! You will not regret it. Definitely the best pistachio gelato I’ve ever had and best gelato period. The woman who is the 4th generation of owners is so helpful and sweet. She is so knowledgeable about her product and tells you where each ingredient comes from. It also feels great to support a small business instead of a chain of gelato places. Highly recommend!

Mokambo Gelateria is simply a marvel for the senses. This is no doubt the most pure, artisanal gelato in all of Italy and the world. I highly commend Giuliana for the wonderful degustation she held for my family and me. We were stunned by the beautiful old-world aesthetics of the gelateria, the aromas of cacao beans and Giuliana's story of each handcrafted gelato. But nothing prepared us for the unbelievable taste. Other inferior gelato will taste more and more bland as you eat it as the coldness numbs your taste buds and is unable to detect the weaker flavour profiles. But with Mokambo's recipes, the intensity of flavour reignites with each mouthful right until the last drop of gelato. It is evident that this can only be achieved with the highest quality of local and international ingredients, absolute control over their production processes, along with a love and passion that Giuliana and her family exude. This unassuming storefront is home to some of the tastiest gelato I've ever tasted. The small shop area has information highlighting the quality of the ingredients and their sources. The person serving our gelato warmly engaged us and created the whipped cream fresh. The toppings complement the unique flavors and I look forward to our next visit to try more flavors!

This is my first and only Yelp review. I can't say enough about my visit to Mokambo. As a chef and gelatiere myself, I always set the bar low, but there is no bar for something you've never had before. Their craft, art, gelato is truly and completely their own world and therefore this is the only place in the world to have these delights. I opted for the blind experience and was blown away. Flavors that were familiar mingled with dimensions I never encountered and some ingredients, although I thought I knew, were completely new to me. Partly because either I had never had such quality ingredients or ones with the uniqueness cultivated in each's correlating terroir. The care they take in highlighting those most special of ingredients, balancing and complementing them is masterful. What we like to eat is a matter of personal taste and I believe saying any food is 'The best' only means it's your favorite. Whether or not you think their gelato is 'The best' is irrelevant. It is inimitable. Amazing. A one of a kind experience that you can only have in Ruvo di Puglia. If you are even slightly interested or find yourself close enough to go, don't hesitate to. You'll be welcomed warmly and leave with a new perspective on what gelato/ice cream can be.

It's impossible to truly describe how amazing the gelato produced in this family owned and ran shop is, you really must try it out for yourself. We made the journey from Bari to Ruvo di Puglia to do just that, and we did not hold back, we had all of the flavors available (eight) and then my husband had some seconds. The gelato making process here is truly artisanal, handmade in house, using only the necessary quality ingredients (no fillers) and because of this the quantity made daily and the flavors available at any given point are limited. All of the flavors were outstanding but the one that made me smile the most was their Malaga flavor which is an old recipe from back in the 60s and 70s that has a a subtle and well balanced hint of liqueur. Giuliana, who along with her uncle, is the main gelato artisan was so kind and gracious taking the time to explain and relate her family's story as well as the process behind making this very special gelato (which we so happily indulged in) a true labour of love.

This gelato is worthy of a pilgrimage!!!! I traveled all the way from Texas to experience Mokambo Gelateria and would do it again in a heartbeat. No one else in the world is producing gelato the way they do at Mokambo, using their family recipe from 1840. There are only 4 ingredients in each flavor, and those ingredients are the best of the best sourced from all over the world! Upon entering the gelateria, you can see and smell the ingredients all over the shop. Guiliana will take you through the flavors and where all of the ingredients come from, so you can truly appreciate the magic of the gelato you are tasting. Every order is served with special toppings, panna, and a wine soaked cherry. I am a lifelong connoisseur of all frozen treats, and this gelato is easily the best I have ever had. Every bite is heaven. Guiliana, Vincenzo, and their uncle Franco provide excellent customer service and will make sure that you have the best experience in their shop. They are so passionate about REAL gelato at Mokambo, and you will be too once you try it for yourself. Make a trip to Ruvo just for this gelato - you won't regret it!
