12 Best Things to Do in Tokyo With Kids | Condé Nast Traveler

"Located a short stroll from the Senso-ji temple, Mokuhankan Print Parties, craft sessions with professional artists, are the perfect way to break up a day of walking around the atmospheric side streets of Asakusa. Over the course of an hour, kids will learn about the ancient technique of ukiyo-e, or woodblock printing. Pre-carved blocks mean that even tiny hands can make a masterpiece for the refrigerator back home. Booking ahead isn’t essential, but it only takes a minute and guarantees that there won’t be a wait. At ¥2,000 (about $18) per person or ¥5,000 (about $45) for a family of four, these workshops offer great value for anyone who wants a little extra insight into Japanese culture. Don’t be surprised if the older siblings—or parents—in your group end up having as much fun as the little ones. Especially since it’s a low time commitment, a woodblock printing workshop is easy to squeeze into a day full of sightseeing." - Diana Hubbell

Mokuhankan 'Print Parties,' Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan - Tour Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Start with the big picture. Located a short stroll from the Senso-ji temple, Mokuhankan Print Parties, craft sessions with professional artists, are the perfect way to break up a day of walking around the atmospheric side streets of Asakusa. Over the course of an hour, kids will learn about the ancient technique of ukiyo-e, or woodblock printing. Pre-carved blocks mean that even tiny hands can make a masterpiece for the refrigerator back home. Booking ahead isn’t essential, but it only takes a minute and guarantees that there won’t be a wait when you show up. Group sizes vary, but they're never large enough to get too crazy. What's the usual crowd like? These workshops may be mostly geared toward kids, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see a few adult couples breaking the dinner-and-a-movie date routine. Since there's no walking involved, travelers with mobility issues can fully partake. Tell us about the guide. How do they do? An accomplished artist in his own right, Dave Bull is well-known for his instructional online videos and his Ukiyo-e Heroes woodblock print series, which depicts classic videogame characters. He’s also a skilled teacher adept at keeping even fussy children enthralled. In order to stick to the workshop’s tight timeframe, the team moves through instructions quickly, but will always pause to offer one-on-one advice if a child is struggling to get the hang of the technique. Anything you can't stop thinking about after the fact? All of the staff here are artists who are as passionate about spreading the word about ukiyo-e as they are about practicing their own craft. Their enthusiasm is infectious and the level of technical ability on display is impressive. One of their professional prints makes for an excellent souvenir or gift. Anything else we should know before planning to book a spot? At ¥2,000 (about $18) per person or ¥5,000 (about $45) for a family of four, these workshops offer great value for anyone who wants a little extra insight into Japanese culture. Don’t be surprised if the older siblings—or parents—in your group end up having as much fun as the little ones. Especially since it’s a low time commitment, a woodblock printing workshop is easy to squeeze into a day full of sightseeing." - Diana Hubbell

Absolutely lovely shop. I had been watching Mr.David streams for a while before stopping into the shop on one of my trips and I should have done it sooner. He is everybit as informational and good hearted as he is on stream. If not more so, somehow. The selection of prints is immense and seemingly he gets in new stuff constantly. All the staff in the shop seem to share his same passion for the art and we're more than happy to help me debate between prints, discuss colors and scenes and anything in between. I visited this shop no less than 3 times while I was in Asakusa and I'm sure I could have visited more and still seen new pieces I would have been tempted to take home. Over all I think I bought 7-8 prints. And can't wait to frame them and put them up in my home. As well as give out a couple as gifts. All around great art shop if you are looking for amazing souvenirs. Or if you just want to talk with Mr.David about the advancement of ai and the path of humanity into the future. 😁

This was so fun to stop and check out the artwork. We knew of this store before coming to japan and made a point to stop by. We got to meet David Bull which was incredible for us geeks. We spent a good amount on large woodblock prints from artists we know and love, but there were many less expensive options as well. The staff are friendly and interesting with many great stories and in depth knowledge about the artwork. It's an easy way to spend 30 minutes, buy some souvenirs and enjoy a day at Asakusa.

High quality traditional Japanese woodblock prints! There is a great selection and everything is very well priced. I had my prints shipped back to the US. The shop will professionally package and arrange for quick shipment (even times the delivery for me)! Communication on the shipment was great and I could easily use the provided tracking number with the Japanese shipping company as well as our local USPS tracking website. After following Dave’s streams it was a huge treat to visit the shop in person. Dave wasn’t available during my visit (depends on his schedule), but the staff are all awesome and very helpful.

I only bought a print for my girlfriend, since none of the prints I wanted were in stock and nothing else quite caught my eye. However, there were many interesting prints, and all were priced very well. The staff was friendly and answered my questions patiently. David Bull himself was in. He was awesome to see explaining some things to a young aspiring printer asking questions in the shop. I’ll be back hopefully sooner than later to find something that I can connect with.

I actually got to meet Dave after being a fan for years! The shop is more beautiful in person and there were so many incredible prints! I wanted to buy them all. I found several beautiful prints that are perfect gifts for my family and friends (and yes one for me too!) the level of craftsmanship and history is beyond compare. An essential visit!!!

A must-see store. If you're in Tokyo, you need to go to Mokuhankan. It's a beautiful shop, full of gorgeous art that must be seen and they're all at reasonable prices. The staff are always warm, welcoming, and will answer any questions you may have about the artwork or about woodblock prints. I have been here multiple times and it still leaves me speechless at how stunning the art can be. Please support this store and its great work.

One of my highlights during a recent trip to Japan. A small but well stocked shop tucked away in the busy streets of Asakusa. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. David was kind enough to talk through a brief history of woodblock printing in Japan with us, and shared some nuances with the prints we were interested in. Highly recommended to anyone interested in a varied range of high quality traditional Japanese woodblock prints.

Quiet shop with plenty of prints to browse. Also nice area with the Asakusa temple just around the corner.
