We've eaten here a few times and love the love music in the evenings. We saw the same musician from our previous trip and he has an amazing voice. Mole is equal parts authentic and creative, ranging from the traditional chocolate to Verde to pumpkin seed. All truly delicious and I love the way they bring you chips with a sample of all three so you can decide before you buy. Options for all meats and seafood with several variations of dishes. The staff is always willing to make recommendations or help you choose which mole combination is the best with your dish. Definitely recommend!

Google
Good, but not great. I wish the menu was better written and easier to follow (I’m Spanish or English). The mole negro chili relleno I got was good and filling. Staff was friendly. They typically have someone singing a few songs and then requesting money. Prices are reasonable.

Leo Martinez

Google
service was great, ower came by said hello. i had the chilles rellenos! with shrimp. i loved it. will definitely come back again. 3 types of mole are ur option verde, Jovita, pipillan.

Google
We really liked the sampler platter that had sopes, tacos, enchiladas, maybe something else. Had this shared for two of us and it was a lot of food, enough for a dinner for us both. I liked that they give you all three moles to sample with chips as an appetizer - we liked the green and black best so we asked for just those two on our dish and not the peanut one. These are not the best moles we've ever had but they were good. Drinks were on the sweet side, make sure to ask for not too sweet when ordering if you prefer to pucker up from the lime in your margaritas :)

Elsa Ruiz

Google
This was amazing and the best part is they give you samples to taste all three moles. My favorite one is obviously the chocolate but definitely the place to come for enchiladas de mole. Or just everything mole.

Joshua F.

Google
Amazing mole plus vegan options! We had the enmoladas (enchilada with mole) and the chili rellano. The vegan / vegetarian option came with plantain and cactus.

Google
Not as good as the memory - we made a point of returning as our 2012 visits were outstanding. The best part of this visit was the Cadillac Margaritas. We didn't think much of the Tortilla Soup, not on par with the other 15 - 20 we've had. The Tacos were rather one note as well; a small piece of fish (or a few shrimp) on a taco shell slathered with mole.

Google
The staff was wonderful. They surprised me by singing Happy Birthday and giving me drink and sluce of flan. Food was delicious as well.

Yelp
Service is adequate, but the server we had was inexperienced and did not check in with us after leaving our food. The food was good, but not better than other Mexican restaurants who charge half the price Mole does. The ambiance is good; it's a lovely room with so-so service and overpriced good food.

Martin F.

Yelp
We have enjoyed the food here many times, not sure why it has taken this long to write a review. I had the chicken enchiladas with the three variations of mole sauce. It was a symphony of flavor. The wife had the thigh and leg chicken with the standard mole sauce, it was tender and flavorful. We shared a flan for dessert which toppef of a great meal. It's a simple menu, great flavors, good service. What more is there to ask? If you like mole or have been curious to try mole, this is a great place to go. They offer three variations and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them although my personal favorite is the traditional.

Yelp
Closed permanently! Sorry Boarded up. No mas. Try OK Jose over by the church. Closed permanently! Sorry Boarded up. No mas. Try OK Jose over by the church.

Yelp
Out of this world delicious!!!! If you like Mole, they have three different types: traditional, verde made from spinach , and a pumping peanut. All of them were fabulous. I could have eaten here everyday of vacation it was that good. Definitely get in here and check them out! Probably the best meal we had in PV hands down!!!

Amy L.

Yelp
The servers are all super friendly and if you're lucky you'll get to catch Eddy playing music there! The mole was pretty good but not the best mole that I've ever had. I tried the green pipian and classic chocolate. I was expecting more of a punch or unique quality to them both. They were good sauces, just nothing spectacular flavor wise. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with red sauce. It was okay. I feel like I could have gotten something similar in the states. My boyfriend got the chile relleno with green pipian mole. Like I said, mole was okay. But the Chile relleno was cooked to perfection! I'd highly recommend the dish!! Maybe get two lol! I would definitely return for the chile relleno, it's the star of the show!

Alan H.

Yelp
I'm not what you would call a mole enthusiast. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy it. But I've only had it maybe ten times in my life. Yet the reviews on this place were so strong, so compelling, that my friend and I thought, yeah, let's do something different. I'm glad we did. The outdoor seating was lovely on a perfect night, we were right by the live music and she was just mellow and relaxing and wonderful, and usually I'm annoyed by live music because it drowns out the conversation. She was fantastic though. The food was great, the servers friendly, the prices reasonable. Literally everything about this place was just super cute and fun.

Rosie P.

Yelp
The best margarita de fresa I've ever had! Made totally fresh with natural fruit, nothing artificial tasting here! Ask for Jaime! Best bartender around.

Erin L.

Yelp
LOVES this place - had been coming for years and recommended it to anyone who liked mole. Sad it's closed for good.

Martin S.

Yelp
I had the chicken mole and it was amazingly delicious. I highly recommend this place as it might be some of the best mole I have ever had. I washed it all down with a Cadillac margarita!

Jason M.

Yelp
This place is closed, out of business. Submitted an update to Yelp but they still show it as open- Google is correct. Took a cab across town and it's completely gone.

Eric K.

Yelp
Another classic dish I wanted to try in Mexico was mole. A complex sauce with 50+ ingredients with nuts, seeds, fruits, beans, chocolate, etc., this was definitely something I wanted to try in Mexico. Maybe I'm not a mole person. The sauce itself is tasty but not mindblowing, but i think here the issue was the stuff underneath was pretty underwhelming. Basically plain chicken w plain corn tortillas. It showcases the mole, but its a lot of one thing that is very one note and doesn't make for the best eating experience.

Bijana K.

Yelp
Wow! When my friend said we had to stroll by this place to sample the mole, I told him I didn't like mole but everyone else could try. Well I ate more than my words! Not only did I LOVE their Jovita mole, but their guacamole was literally the BEST I've ever had in my life, anywhere in the world, including other places in Mexico. I had the vegetarian enchiladas all with Jovita. My dining companions had enchilada mixtos and a chicken mole dish. I didn't hear any complaints or even much conversation once the food arrived! The service was also friendly and excellent.

Ann M.

Yelp
We loved this place but now it's permanently closed Sad as it was a great Mole family owned, small little place.

Iván C.

Yelp
You can miss it if walking by, but it's a good whole in the wall restaurant. We got the traditional mole with shrimp and chicken and were amazed by the flavors. It came with rice and beans. We also got a side of guacamole which was made fresh. The only down side is there no AC, but the try to keep you cool with electric fans.

Garseng W.

Yelp
Homemade mole in the heart of La Zona Romantica. The restaurant is marked by a friendly woman attending to a pot of mole on most days as you walk down the busy street of Basilio Badillo. It has a relatively upscale feel with tablecloths and cloth napkins, and the prices are a touch higher than the local taco places which should totally be expected. The meal started with a basket of tortilla chips alongside a generous bowl of salsa and small sampling bowls of their 3 different moles: chocolate (mole de jovita), pumpkin, and cilantro. My favorite was the namesake; I recommend coming here expressly to cover all your food with that beautifully deep, smooth, and rich sauce. We got the following: 1) Tortilla soup - a tomato base with pieces of panela cheese and avocado, as well as tortilla strips and crema. Lovely rich tomato flavor with a nice variety of tastes and textures from the additions. 2) traditional chicken mole - a chicken leg with your choice of mole, served with some rice and refried beans. The chicken was just a touch dry but made a great vehicle for the mole. 3) Sopes - four little discs made of maize topped with meat, crema, and fresh greens, served with a red, very mild salsa. We got it with shrimp, wish there was just a little bit more because it was hard to pick out. Also wish we got some mole on the side to smother it. Overall, come if you love (or want to try - and you should!) mole as this is the real deal. I want to come back and try the enmoladas: enchiladas covered in mole. So good!

Steve R.

Yelp
Others people have told me that they had great experience here but I have only been once and the service was bad so maybe give it a shot and tell me what you think

Paul M.

Yelp
I love their traditional Mexican dish offerings. I must say they have the best chilaquiles in town! The small restaurant is located in the midst of the hustle-and-bustle of Basillo Badillo. Despite the multitude of nouveau restaurants that have cropped in the late 2020's in the neighborhood, El Mole somehow has managed to retain its charm and shrug off the burgeoning competition.

Ben G.

Yelp
Some of the best mole I've ever had. We ordered the enchiladas with all 3 and it was amazing. Guacamole was wonderful too. Everyone was kind. Especially Beto. Love to this place

Amy S.

Yelp
Best mole sauce I've ever had! There are three choices, the dark Jovita one is the best, but all are great. The service is great, too. Definitely going back. I wish we could get this back home but that's what makes coming here special.

Yuri N.

Yelp
Is good and the staff is great. Place is cute, food is good too, not the best mole I ever had, but I liked it. I've been several times. Is a very good way to get something Mexican, but different around that area.

Vince N.

Yelp
My spouse wanted to try their mole, so in we went. ATMOSPHERE: The small restaurant has a few indoor seats and some on the sidewalk. They were one of the few places open for lunch in the area to boot. MENU: Traditional Mexican with 3 different mole sauces which our server brought out for us to try: Cilantro which I liked because I couldn't taste a hint of my kryptonite herb, pumpkin which was my second fave, and a traditional chocolate mole, my least favorite. FOOD: Chips & Salsa - On the house. The salsa was a 3 on 5 heat scale. The chips were thicker than normal. Lentil Soup - This was very good. I'm used to thick lentil soups, but this one was very thin, though with excellent taste. Bits of bacon enhanced the flavor. Tortilla Soup - My spouse's app. I'm not a huge fan of tortilla soup, but theirs was good, light and subtle. Fresh avocados and sour cream topped the soup along with tortilla strips. Range Plate - This is a huge dish, enough for 4 to share comfortably. I got the one that's loaded with 1 tostada, 2 crispy tacos, 2 enchiladas, and 2 sopes, all with shredded pork, and topped with shredded lettuce, and refried beans. The enchiladas were covered in the mole sauce of your choice, in which I chose the cilantro & pumpkin flavors, then sprinkled with way too much toasted sesame seeds that made the taste even worse for me. Unfortunately, everything was just so bland and lacked any form of cheese. I'd take cheese over mole any day. The single tostada ended up being my favorite due to its crunchy texture. The tacos were my second fave. The enchiladas & sopes were so blah. I drizzled some of the house salsa on everything to give it life, which helped. Chicken Leg & Thigh - My spouse's dish. The chicken was super tender and cooked perfect, then topped with chocolate mole. He absolutely loved it, but I would've chosen a different mole sauce as I just don't care for the chocolate flavor. It came with a puddle of refried beans and small serving of yellow rice. SERVICE: Our male server was awesome. He was so helpful, welcoming, and checked on us often. He even brought out a sample of the 3 different moles for us to try. Even the female that was toasting the tortillas was so sweet, and checked on us. Excellent! OVERALL: Even though I didn't care for my dish, I have to give them a 4 star rating due to authenticity, terrific service, and delish lentil soup. I'd definitely go back to try other dishes. Very affordable.

Yelp
This place without the owner present, is a catastrophe. We waited for more than 30min to get a waiter to ask for drink orders. Add to that, another 20min to ask for food orders. There after, we waited 1hr and 15 min for any sign of entrees. Food came out cold and in a small portion, like for a toddler. The variety of moles are good but nothing else in the menu is good. I ordered the Tacos Dorados and they were a sad thing to look at. Don't come here if you don't like mole and if you don't have about 2 hrs to sit and dine. I'm visiting from NY and I was recommending this place to my Other visiting friends, but not anymore. BOYCOTTING!

Bonnie N.

Yelp
We loved this restaurant so much that we returned on our last day to try some other menu items. It's homemade, authentic goodness at reasonable prices, without the tourist fluff. Their mole recipe has been made by their family for over 100 years. It's very special. Everything we had was excellent, but what stood out to me here were some of the more eclectic, yet still traditional, vegetarian menu items. Zucchini stuffed with fluffy cheese and smothered in mole, with salad. YUM. Carnivorous friendly items were delicious as well. The pitcher of limonada was refreshing, and the jarra de naranjada on our return visit was fantastic as well (try it with sparkling water!). It was nice to be served a chile relleno that wasn't dripping in batter and grease; theirs was a fire roasted poblano stuffed with cheese and covered in sauce, served with these hearty handmade tortillas hot off the grill. Mmm. Their flan isn't the usual either; it's a slice of custard atop a moist, gooey, yet fluffy brownie. Very good. Service was excellent on both visits.

Yamily Z.

Yelp
The chocolate mole is one of thee best I've ever had. On par with my grandmas MOLE Sweet taste! Came last year & couldn't wait to return back to Puerto Vallarta for this!

Ro R.

Yelp
They had three types of mole. So delicious. Try it. You won't regret it. You can even sit outside and enjoy people watching all the tourists. LGBTQ+ friendly.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Food: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 El Mole de Jovita offers (at least) three different kinds of mole, and you get to try them with chips to help inform yourself on what path to take with the rest of the meal. All of the moles are tasty, but I'm partial to the standard mole poblano, which has a nice, deep, rich cocoa flavor. My wife and I also thoroughly enjoyed the guacamole and flan. My top picks are the tamale and chicken enchiladas, both served with mole poblano. If you're in the Romantic District of PV, this is a must!

E A.

Yelp
You have to go go here if you are in PV, they have the best Mexican food by far,my husband has the enchiladas and mine is the Chile relleno and it's delicious, guacamole was outstanding and way too much. Jaime and Mario are so attentive, everything was perfect.

B P.

Yelp
This review was for their limited lunch service consisting of gorditas. It's location is right in the heart of the action on Basilio Badillo. The staff is waiting right inside to invite you as you walked by. With the taco stand closed, I stopped in for three gorditas at 20 a piece and a beer. My wife the vegetarian would have loved this place. The gorditas were good. I never had one before so I can not compare quality, but they were tasty. The service was great and all smiles. I would stop in again definitely and maybe try dinner.

Puzant C.

Yelp
We had breakfast here during our trip to PV recently and the food was fantastic! I had the Chilaquiles and pancakes which were so good. Fresh orange juice was good too. Very reasonable prices and nice ambiance outdoors.

Kim M.

Yelp
This place was amazing. Great service and friendly. The Tamarindo Margarita was wonderful and so was the mole and salsa. Every dish has a different sauce and all so good. We had coconut shrimp, chili relleno, and tacos. All wonderful. This will be a recommendation of mine for my friends!

Joseph D.

Yelp
We'd typically stop in for a lunch and then later in the week for dinner. We have been going here for years and find the owners to be nice and welcoming. They've made recent changes to the menu which provides a more Instagram friendly photo opportunity of their standard dishes. Where once you'd be treated to rice and beans they've upped their game to make towering creations. Is just a visual change to presentation. The wait staff is friendly but are not attentive as they could be. They need to work as a team and anticipate a clients needs whether that be as basic as refreshing the chips when low or offering up a second margarita or other cocktail. Something is off when you have clients waving hands in the air to attract the attention of a server. They often appear to stand around and wait to be called. They need to approach and engage with the clients. The mole is still awesome and the food is great. The disorganization at dinner seems to make for slow roll out of meals from the kitchen. Again, a team effort to improve would make for a much more enjoyable evening for guests.

Peter Y.

Yelp
Yeah, we really went here two nights in a row. Their mole and chicken soup was that good. Even thought the restaurant is in an older space, everything was very clean. The traditional mole was perfect with the ideal blend of chilies and chocolate. The first night I had their chicken leg quarter with mole sauce, beans and rice on the side. The beans were incredibly savory and the rather plain-appearing rice was a perfect foil for the chicken with mole sauce. The second night I had emmolada, which is tortillas stuffed with a shredded chicken filling covered with traditional mole sauce. A small amount of rice laid underneath the tortillas. Lisa had a chicken soup without the added chipotle. She feasted on the avocado, chicken and cheese in the soup and completely loved it. It was just what she needed, after having a gurgling tummy earlier in the day. The waitstaff understood English well, even converting to English after I started in Spanish. They provided warm samples of the three types of mole that they offer. They checked back with us to make sure we had everything that we wanted. Prices are totally reasonable.

Anthony V.

Yelp
REAL MEXICAN FOOD! Forget quesadillas, burritos and all that fake Mexican food. Go here and try their "Mole" sauce on top of your enchiladas, enmoladas, sopes, tacos dorados, shrimp etc. Sweet and FULL of flavor. Great service, family owned, & passed down recipes.

Dee W.

Yelp
Loved this place ! I had no idea you could make different flavors of mole. They were all three fabulous. The red sauce was great too. We had sopes with pork and green mole, husband loved it and wanted to go back the next meal. I had chicken mole enchiladas and I think it is in the top 3 moles ever for me.

Roberto G.

Yelp
The Mole is very tasty and the enchiladas enmoladas with chicken breast are very good.. They have 3 types of Mole.. Enjoy we always do!!!

George Z.

Yelp
Wow ! The margaritas were amazing and started off a good night. Then we got to the mole covered chili relleno which was off the charts tasty. 45 ingredients to a mole is a labor of love. Cannot say enough good things about the food and service. Spectacular. We will be back for sure.

MaryFran L.

Yelp
We never just wander into somewhere, we do an extensive search of Yelp, Trip Advisor, and Google when we are looking for a more authentic place to eat. It led us to El Mole de Jovita. We were able to snag a sidewalk table. We enjoyed watching the lady making tortillas and the sidewalk traffic as we munched on chips and mole. There are three different moles. Most tables got samples of all three with their chips. For some reason, we only got one, which is the traditional mole. Had I seen that most tables had all three, I would have asked for the other two. As a result, we ordered both our dishes with the traditional mole, which was excellent. I ordered the vegetarian enchiladas. Not because I'm a vegetarian, but because of the choices. There were four enchiladas, two plantains, one cactus, and one with cheese and chili pepper. All were delicious. My husband got a chili relleno. It was stuffed with shrimp and cheese. Unlike chili relleno we had in the US, this one was not deep fried. It was delicious as well and has now set our expectations pretty high for future chili rellenos. Our drinks were equally delicious. My husband said he'd never had such a good mojito. I had ordered a tamarindo margarita, however, since there wasn't any tamarind, I settled for a delicious cucumber margarita. So happy! El Mole de Jovita is wonderful. Just make sure you are in a Mexican state of mind (not too rushed) and you will have a wonderful meal and experience!

Kathryn R.

Yelp
We've visited this nice restaurant on our last few visits to Puerto Vallarta. It's very tempting to pop into the restaurant since they are constantly making mole in a large bowl at a stand on the sidewalk, and offering samples to passers-by. We tried Mole de Jovita for breakfast on this trip. I love chilaquiles, and I was intrigued by their chilaquiles with mole. They were AMAZING! Their mole is really one of the best I've ever tasted. My husband had the omelet de Jovita, which was good, but not as good as mine! We've eaten there for lunch and dinner before, and we've enjoyed it equally - they have a nice variety of dishes, but obviously you should order mole at a restaurant with "mole" in the name! There is outdoor and indoor seating, the staff are all super friendly, and they have free wi-fi (you just need to ask for the code).

FoodLover F.

Yelp
Flew in from San Francisco and this was our first meal in puerto Vallarta and an easy few minutes walk from hotel playa Los arcos We were hungry after our fight was delayed and the airport arrival process was a mass amount of people that took two hours to wade thru So happy to sit down outside, people watch, have a margarita, try all the moles, order tortilla soup (ok) and chicken enchiladas with the jovita mole and the pepito mole, really good!

Robert C.

Yelp
Stopped by this place with my family while on a cruise and the rave reviews. We got there when they just opened. I have had mole many times in many places and was not impressed with the moles here. My favorite is the chocolate mole and it was very watery and had no kick at all. The chips where hard and chewy. The waiter even told us that they were made yesterday. Maybe if was an off day or they just opened. Customers service slow for only just us. I knew I should have had pesos on me instead of US dollars because that gave them the opportunity to give us false conversion rate in which they did in which we overpaid. However, guacamole was good.

Bay A.

Yelp
There are better places to eat at it Puerto Vallarta. First, they tried to serve me tacos that were 1/4th of the way full and after I brought it to their attention, the promptly corrected it. Then, we paid with dollars and they gave us an incredibly unfavorable exchange rate, 20% less than what we received at the bank. And, the food was ok but it wasn't great.

Scott L.

Yelp
This is some of the best Mole I've had, regardless of location. They bring you a little sampler plate with the three different Moles, so you can try them out and decide on a favorite. It's a nice touch. They were all good, but the green was my favorite. I got that on a chicken breast and it was wonderful. My wife had the Chilaquiles with the Jovita Mole and it was very good. The Chilaquiles she's had other places had eggs, but these didn't. Maybe it was what we ordered? The guacamole was very fresh and tasty. I also had the Mezcal Mojito which was great. The location is nice, the staff is great, and the food is terrific. I can't say enough good things about this place. I'd definitely go back!

Lorraine C.

Yelp
Holy Mole mi corazón está estallando But really, skip the obvious bars and restaurants. This place truly knows how to accommodate and prepare food with love. Jaime and the owner are so attentive. Ask for recommendations as they will steer you in the direction of perfection. Try the moles and homemade chips. NOTHING LIKE THEM......and the guacamole...no words! Perhaps heavenly!!!

Kirk B.

Yelp
Great little lunch place along "food row' here PV. Pricing was average and the guacamole and tortillas were made fresh. Our waiter recommended the Puerto Vallarta ale and it was pretty good....we asked around other restaurants for the ale and couldn't find it again ...

C L.

Yelp
Food slathered in delicious mole. They serve 3 types of mole - dark brown traditional mole with a base of chocolate, green mole with a base of cilantro, orange mole with a base of pumpkin. You can pick one or choose a combination in your order. I'm a fan of the traditional mole and it's delicious and rich here. If you are familiar with mole or want to try it I would highly recommend this place. We both ordered the traditional mole chicken leg. It seems like chickens in Mexico have more bones and less meat but every bite was delicious and we didn't leave wanting. There is also a children's menu for the little ones who lack mole taste buds. They also had a great guitarist playing in the sidewalk. Not sure if he is a regular but he added to the fun ambience.

Jerry A.

Yelp
The WORST! i ordered salmon with green mole-didn't come with mole-just frozen, hard, tuff crap! btw I asked the waiter what was a better choice Chicken or Salmon-he swore on his mother the Salmon was the better of the two. REALLY? I had to ask for Chile Verde on the side-my wife's dinner was cock-eyed to say the least-they mixed up the mole-chocolate for red? or was it green? any event, this place sux! Go next door to Joe Jacks.

Dayle W.

Yelp
The ingredients were great, a presentation ok, however, this is the third time we have gone, and the food was cold on delivery. I mentioned it to the server, no response that made sense. I don't think it was understood that the "comida esta fríos!". My husbands chile rellenos was not cooked, it was difficult to cut. Hard and crusty. I think this is the last try.

Will M.

Yelp
This place has become a must every time I come to PV. It is clear that there has been much time and effort put into the food and experience at this restaurant. While at some establishments on the same block feel as though the food is prepared with haste, the flavors of the dishes at la Jovita taste as if they have been cultivated with love and care over generations. Grab a margarita de tamarindo and savor in the beautiful energy of one of our favorite servers/bartender Alberto.
