What It's Like Traveling the World As a Trans Woman

"A wildlife park in Ghana where the author stood less than 30 meters from a herd of wild elephants, an encounter that highlighted the power and pleasure of being in nature; such close contact with animals and unmediated landscapes provided an unqualified sense of being treated as human, reinforcing hope, visibility, and the joy of trans embodiment." - Abeni Jones Abeni Jones Abeni Jones is a trans woman of color writer, editor, and educator based in California. The crew are scolded by the guide for spooking the elephants, which is very dangerous.

This is a great place if you want to see elephants in Ghana. Even though there are other animals from baboons, warthogs, birds, antelopes etc, the main attraction of this park are the wild elephants. This park is in the savanna region of Ghana, and it’s about 13 to 15 hours from Accra. If you are not driving there directly, there ain’t any direct cars to the park. However you reach the park by boarding any vehicle traveling to Tamale from Accra you can alight at Fufulso Junction, From Fufulso junction to the reserve should be about 2 hours. From this junction, it’s easy to get a vehicle to Larabanga which is the closest town to the part and only about a 10mins drive into the park from this town. If you plan to stay in the park, there are two main accommodation options. Zaina Lodge which is an upscale stay and the Mole Motel if you are on a budget and looking for a cheaper option. On the park you can take guided tours car/walks to see wildlife. Tours are available on short notice from the info desk.

I nice experience seeing animals in their natural habitat. It just unfortunate we didn't get to see many because of the time of visit. Overall great experience

All I can say is WOW just wow! This is my second time visiting. The first was in 2007 and I recently returned with a family of my own and we all loved it. It was totally worth the drive from Accra. We did the driving safari and saw the elephants up close and lots of other animals. Seeing the animals in their natural habitat is magical ✨

A very good and affordable safari experience. Lacking a little on the interpretation & dining. But well worth the visit. Note you need to inform in advance if you want to go on night safari, but is well worth it!

It was a true adventure to visit Mole National Park and see some animals for the first time. You will see different kinds of animal bones and skins at the museum. It's a very nice place to visit and spot different kinds of animals. You will feel nature closer to you.

Mole National Park is a must go if you are a tourist in Ghana. Seeing the animal is their natural habitat is way better than caged in a zoo. You get to enjoy nature with them. The air quality here is amazing. Beautiful trees, flowers and insects you may have never seen before are all dwelling in this beautiful nature park. And the icing on the cake is the very friendly elephants. I was fortunate to see them in various places all around the park and got very close to them and they were not bothered I was there. It's truly amazing And Paul our tour guide was good at spotting the animals and knows where they most are resting or feeding. Such a great guy! If you want to do this on a budget, you can message me and I will give you the hints for free. I did the entire trip from Tamale to the place with less than 500.00

A fantastic tourist spot with a very comfortable motel, delicious food, and wonderfully friendly staff. Key highlight was the morning safari with beautiful animals sighted.
