"An ancient atoll, Molokini lies 2.5 miles off Maui’s south coast, where the water is calm, clear, and teeming with marine life. Here, snorkelers and scuba divers can expect up to 150 feet of visibility, allowing for perfect views of yellow tang, parrot fish, black triggerfish, bluefin trevally, and even moray eels. To explore it for yourself, book a tour with Maui Classic Charters, which sails to Molokini in a 55-foot catamaran with a glass-bottomed viewing room. Choose one of the early-morning trips for a better chance of calm seas and bigger sea creatures like octopus and eagle rays, and bring along snacks, sunscreen, and, for those who run cold, perhaps a rash guard or thin wet suit, especially in the winter months."

Definitely recommend snorkeling at Molokini. Just one of those things you have to do. The reef isn’t as colorful as you would expect but it is a lot of hard coral. Also it is sad a lot of people don’t use reef safe sunscreen when out there and I think tour companies do a bad job at explaining why it matters that you do.

Diving and Snorkeling is good along the coast of Maui, but at the crater the water is SO MUCH clearer and blue! The variety of sights to see under the water is awesome! But I'm sure it changes daily. We actually saw more sea turtles nearer coastline of Maui. But I highly recommend the Molikini Crater.

Really clear waters but to be honest a bit disappointing for snorkeling. We went with a big boat (about 70 of us) and it felt a bit crowded. It is supposedly one of the most biodiverse snorkels but I guess we were unlucky. Really didn’t see much. The snorkeling we did off a canoe near our hotel was a lot more interesting

If you‘d like to experience the best fun of diving or snorkeling. The molokini crater is the optimal place to visit. This is a crescent-shaped volcanic islet offshore away from Maui. Taking catamaran is needed to go over here. The water is extreeeeeemly clear inside the crater thanks to its volcanic nature . Under good weather and light conditions the visibility can even reach up to 170ft. And the2 nd reason why MC is good for doing snorkeling is the stretching volcano helps to ward off the waves and torment outside.making the inside of the crater pretty calm and safe even for the beginner levels. Generally most of the coral reefs grow near the shore. Mostly hard corals. They’re greatly well-preserved and sheerly pristine. About the fishes and other creatures. You will encounter a large school of black triggerfish,2types of trumpet fish, parrot fishes, butterfly fishes and so on. But probably the best season to visit is during December to the next March for the MC is just lies on the migration route of the humpback whales. Thus if you book your tour to go here. The tour will mostly include both Snorkeling and whale watching activities which makes it very worthy. Personally I recommend the Four Winds company for they provide some of the best and new catamaran and their underwater photography is very professional.

Good snorkeling with good marine life. Reefs were very similar to what’s off Kaanapali beach. Was nice to get out there and see it but also just as good in other places.

Gorgeous Crater with Flourishing life both top and bottom, got some Boobies and other sea birds at the top of the Crater then a lot of fish and other sea life underwater. You can even hear the male Humpback whales singing while here in Maui, just dive a little and stay still. (Or just stick a GoPro in the water like I did). Great for snorkeling both front and back but Warning it is more dangerous on the backside. Molokini Crater has a lot of bumps/holes on its back side because it was used as target practice from Kaho'olawe island and US Navy during WW II.

Good spot for snorkelling and boating. Overall when we went there weren't a ton of fish and the reef isn't as multicoloured as you may expect. It's still very beautiful and a great spot, but maybe a little overhyped, I think there are nicer snorkeling locations. You also will likely be confined to a fairly small area to snorkel due to the other boats coming and going for safety reasons. We saw sea urchins, sea cucumber, several types of fish and the coral reef. Also if you go underwater you can hear the whales!! As you are boating out there during decemebr-april, there is a good chance you will spot whales which is very worthwhile.

Great snorkeling destination. Calypso was the boat we visited on. There were lots of option from the big, Calypso sized boats to smaller 10-20 passenger ones.
