Marikiti Spice Market is a fantastic place to immerse yourself in the vibrant coastal culture of Mombasa. It's the best place for anyone looking for spices and natural herbs, offering a sensory overload of sights and aromas. The friendly vendors contribute to the market's lively atmosphere, making it a truly engaging experience.
A key thing to remember is that prices are not fixed and can be quite high initially, so your bargaining skills are essential😉

It's a great busy market with a variety of products. They ran from clothes to spices, meat, bags and fruits. The whole variety makes you feel the culture. The market closes as fr 4pm and by six most of the shops are usually closed. Everyone is friendly you just have to know what exactly you are looking to buy it sometimes has a few pools of water when it rains..but it is generally a clean and secure market.

I felt too overwhelmed. I know that I’m posh and I’m not used to this kind of environment but it was just too much. Too many people, too many weird smells, too much noise, too much poverty, too much sewage

It can be nteresting for some people for me it was just crowded.
If you are not local avoid doing shopping , they look or people to scam. For example the guy in the shop below wanted 50 usd for 3 packages of 50-100 gr spices and 2-3 sweets. So avoid the guy and the shop for all costs.

Busy Market. Inside is a partition of stalls. Varieties of spices available including fresh fruits. The market is clean and sellers are so persuasive .
Powdered spices and Mabuyu, mouth watering coloured Mabuyu at ksh 50 and 100 respectively. Outside the market is too busy with hawkers selling similar products.its among the busiest places in Mombasa. The market closes its door at 6:00PM
