Momine Khatun Mausoleum

Momina Khatun was wife of King. So it's a queen's tomb of 12th century. Underground burial chamber is also accessible

It is a high adobe building placed in a garden.i remember gonbad tower in iran when i see it.they have some likness.

Impressive tomb dating back to 12th century.

The mausoleum was erected by atabek Dzhahan Pehlivan in April 1186 for his mother Momine-Khatun, who is considered with her husband, the first atabek Shams ad-Din al-Deniz (the father of Dzhahan Pehlivan) the ancestors of the Eldegiz dynasty and the founder of the state of Atabeks. The most outstanding landmark Nachchivan is skillfully decorated with a complex geometric pattern and quotes from the Koran. Grand decahedral mausoleum was the real medieval skyscraper reaching 34 meters in height. Today it is only 25 meters high. Each side of the surface is completely covered with exquisitely carved Arab writings in kufic style, styled as geometric patterns. What is more, ornaments of the nine out of ten (sides) are different. Only one repeats itself, on the recess where it was supposed to be an exit. The top of the mausoleum is decorated by a skilful stalactite composition.

It is a great place in Naxcivan and its landmark. I visit it two years ago. It was terrific place. Momine khatun was the wife of Naxcivan ruler. He made this place as a memorial of his wife but he died before the bulding making finish. His son continues his fathers made.

The Mausoleum of Mu'mine Khatun is representative of the Nakhchivan architectural tradition of the medieval era, which was heavily influenced by the works of the Azerbaijani architect Adjemi ibn Kuseyir, the mausoleum completed in 1186-1187.

I like the place a lot there is also a suvenier shop here which had a big variety of local goods.
