Phone did not eat first because I was so hungry! Stopped here after a hike and was not disappointed. Had the pulled pork sandwich with slaw and Mac and cheese. Slaw was phenomenal. Pork was tender and flavorful. Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. Sweet people working there too:)

The food was good. Pull pork and ribs where tender 😋. I've had better greens before. The mac and cheese needed a little more cheese and some salt and pepper, but it was still good 👍🏾 😋. Last but not least, the Cole slaw was soooooo good. There is a smoking shack right behind the restaurant that will literally lure you in. Picnic style dining and free 2 hr parking. I'm glad we stopped by.

Have been coming to the Berkshires area for 25 years and have made this restaurant a must visit anytime we're up here since they opened. Food is fantastic, the family members that run the business are all very warm and welcoming. If you are in the area looking for BBQ this spot is definitely worth the visit!

First off, having bbq in Great Barrington is a real win, long needed in this area. Beyond that, the folks running this place are incredibly friendly and warm, and purely on service I will be coming back. Food wise, having just spent 10 days in TX hitting up stellar bbq and smoking meats myself, I think they are doing a great job and it hits the spot. The fried chicken is fantastic, the brisket is tender, and I’d only maybe add some salt or jalapeños to the mac and cheese (but it’s perfectly good as it goes). Really great place, definitely worth a stop in!

We love this BBQ place and glad for its location. The owners are kind and work incredibly hard. We’ve ordered a large platter for a group of 5 and have also popped in for a quick lunch. My husband likes the brisket sandwich which overflows out of the takeout box and I’m a bbq chicken fan with all the fixings. We are big fans highly recommend.

Google
The team here is so pleasant and kind—but, unfortunately—the food is a disappointment. I paid $40 for a combo platter that comes with two meats and a side. I don’t eat pork, so I got two pieces of chicken, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. The beans are uncooked and too sweet. The sauce on the chicken was decent and the smokiness of the chicken was great, but the chicken was dry. The skin on the chicken was so leathery, I could barely eat it. The mac and cheese was the worst I’ve ever had. Flavorless, dense cheese, and the noodles were over cooked.

Google
Best BBQ in the Northeast! My husband and I have been searching and tasting barbecue in multiple states for years. The chicken and ribs were succulent and tender, with a touch of smokiness. The barbecue sauce has just the right balance of sweetness and acidity. Couldn’t get enough of the sauce. I kept dipping my chicken and ribs back in to the sauce just so I could taste more of the deliciousness.I am not a fan of baked beans, but their baked beans are a must-try. Highly recommend Momma Lo’s. A wonderful family owned restaurant where they know their food is good. When I asked what was the best thing to order. She said “everything!” I can now confirm that she was correct. Will be returning for sure.

Google
Man, that’s like a 1500 mile trip down south but you only need to walk downtown! Best bbq I’ve had in years since I lived down south. No photo cause I ate it too fast. Pulled pork was amazing, collared greens perfect. Next time going for the chicken. Give them six stars if I could !

Yelp
The customer service was awesome the ribs were so tender they melted off the bone. The greens perfectly cooked. The ambience was nice and cozy a family friendly amount of food was generous We were able to take some back to Boston To share the goodness with family we have a large family and we ordered a whole slab and sides and extras were added Thank you Momma Lo and family

Yelp
The ribs were tasty and fell off the bone easily. The macaroni and cheese was fresh and creamy. The dining area was outdoors, separate from the restaurant but easily accessible and comfortable. The staff checked in.

Yelp
It's a small, unpretentious restaurant we found while sitting in the Barrington Courtyard preparing to order from the adjacent Mexican restaurant Fiesta (please see our separate review). We were close to the smoker where the BBQ is cooked, and that flavor-packed smoke is a terrific advertisement for the food. We ordered the pulled pork with a couple of sides, cole slaw and collards. All three items were really delicious: the pork tender and soaking in a tasty but not too-hot sauce, the slaw not overly mayo, and the collards just fine with a dash of vinegar. and a bottle of water comes with each meal. Our one complaint would be that our serving ($12.50) seemed on the small side. On the other hand, we're from the Deep South, and finding good pork BBQ here in the Northeast was a treat in itself. We'll be heading back soon to try those ribs. Thank you, Momma Lo.

Yelp
Not a bad BBQ spot! We were in the GB area for the first time and looking for a quick lunch, good food but nothing pretentious. This place definitely hit the spot. It's no frills takeaway BBQ with a view of their own smoker. The food is served fast as it's been prepared earlier. To be honest I've had better BBQ - the collard greens needed a lot of flavor and were undercooked, the brisket was good but a bit tough, however the pulled pork and mac and cheese were pretty good. It definitely fixed our craving and the BBQ sauce was delicious. The pricing was worth it on the pulled pork combo however they don't give lunch pricing for the brisket so it was pretty expensive, spent almost $50 on the two lunch portions pictured, however this is a tourist area so not shocked.

Yelp
Small portions, high prices. Inconsistent quality. Sometimes fabulous; occasionally dried out and even cold. Uneven side dishes--good collard greens, so-so mac & cheese. Small portions for the price. Mama Lo herself charming & friendly; anybody behind the counter seems totally indifferent to your presence. And I love BBQ.

Yelp
Mamma Lo's Southern style BBQ may be the best kept secret in Great Barrington, but, hopefully, not a secret much longer. They are, hands down, the best southern-style BBQ in the entire Northeast, and are a great addition to the growing restaurant culture in this southern end of Berkshire County. Kathy and I had a half-rack of ribs (plenty for 2!), collard greens (served with bacon!) and corn muffins. This proved a perfect meal to take to Tanglewood. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone perfect and drenched in a tangy, vinegar-y sauce, for which the collard greens were a great complement. You can be sure that a return trip is already being planned. I think a move to a larger space will be needed, soon. There is nothing in the area which even comes close. Prices? Dinner for 2 was well under $50, a bargain in dining. It's worth a drive... from anywhere!

Yelp
The Berkshires are lucky to have a new addition to the many wonderful eateries in the county. Bringing true southern comfort up to New England, Momma Lo's is delicious, filling, and each bite is satisfying! Note that despite having ample time to take photos of my takeout order (Ribs with Mac & Cheese and a Corn Muffin) as soon as we got the food home everyone was digging in. This trio - mom and two sons - are bringing something new and exciting to the area and I encourage everyone to stop by asap!

Yelp
Lovely staff, and delicious food. I had ribs, collard greens with rymphs, coleslaw, and a corn muffin, and all the items were incredibly tasty. It's the last week for rymphs - they are a spring thing. People were so friendly, and I am so grateful for a wonderful barbecue meal in Massachusetts, of all places.

Yelp
Visiting my mom in Copake and wanted to explore with my sister. We wanted to explore the road less travelled and wound up at this gem. Dont expect frills. Expect warm hearted people who want to spoil you with delicious food. One plate was enough for at least 3 people and we still had leftovers. We got the brisket and mac and cheese and coleslaw and chicken. All were perfect and we are pretty hard to please. They take cash or cashapp. Theres a tip jar, use it. The portions are so generous and they are so kind! Ample parking

Yelp
Little place. Smells outstanding. Only a few seats, and take out. So we took out. We ordered BBQ Ribs, Brisket, Cole slaw, Collards and corn bread. Every single part of our order was absolutely the best. Tender, tasty, crispy, all at once. The collards are the best, and the corn bread is worth the trip to Great Barrington alone!

Yelp
Saw a posting on Mainstreet Magazine of Momma Lo's BBQ in nearby Craryville. Had the address of1817 Rt 23. It is situated on the lot to the right of AmeriStop on RT23. Set up under a big white tent and a couple of smokers nearby. I am so grateful because the place I used to swing by on my way up from NYC just closed a few months ago. They had operated for over 20 years. I was wondering where to get my BBQ fix and it turns out it's right around the corner. Currently, Momma Lo is only operating on Friday and Saturday but may expand the number of days. I swung by around noon and asked for a combo of ribs and brisket with mac&Cheese and coke slaw. The meat was moist and the ribs were so tender. Sauce was just the right combo of sweet and tangy. So happy Momma Lo is nearby.

Yelp
Heard lots of good things about this place but I found it to be disappointing and given that, overpriced. The ribs were soaked in sauce and short on meat. The baked beans were cold! I don't know if that was by design. After I microwaved them, they were tasteless. The corn muffin was stale and tasteless, as well.

Yelp
Visiting family and wanted something tasty and smoky. This is the place to be for excellent BBQ. Two of us had ribs, I had jerked chicken. Triple A good. The beans were cold but it was OK with us. The rib meat came off the bone easily and is tender with that wood smoked goodness. I like the flavor of the sauce but a bit runny. My better half got mac n' cheese for a side which complimented the meat. My jerk chicken had a great flavor that is smoky and a hint of vinegar. All portions are generous. If you are afraid of hot spices, don't worry. None of the order was a mouth burner. I do like a kick in my BBQ but I still recommend this fine family run establishment.

Yelp
I agree with the other comments that the mac and cheese needs work. I honestly think it's Kraft mac and cheese from a box. They need to up their game on this and create something that's uniquely their own. The pulled pork sandwich was generous and well-flavored. I found the sauce super sweet and mild. It needs some heat or some vinegar. I had to add some Franks Red Hot sauce to the sandwich. Bar-b-q has to have a great sauce and great sides. They are supporting characters for the meat but it's still super important to get them right.

Yelp
Best southern BBQ in the Northeast. Brisket and Mac and cheese are my go-to. Check them out on Friday's for Fried Chicken Friday's.

Yelp
I moved to Boston about 2 years ago and haven't found a good and worthwhile southern BBQ joint in Mass. me and my friends went to celebrate at Darryl's back in June and was highly disappointed by the food and service. I also went to redbones in Medford and thought the meat wasn't tender and was highly expensive for what was offered. We thought we lost all hope. We came by this place completely by accident after GB eats said they couldn't seat us due to my friend's emotional support dog. This is hidden along the long food area/building at the very end. It has fun baby yoda and Star Wars decorations and wonderful, lovely, and friendly staff. The food ...my goodness. I was blown away. I felt like I was having bbq in the backyard. The prices are extremely reasonable especially the lunch special. I got the bbq ribs with slaw and Mac and cheese. I also tried the corn bread and the potato salad. All so excellent. This is the result of food made of love and care. I think what was unique and threw off my friend was the cold baked beans. Don't be fooled! THEY ARE SO GOOD! I would still like them warm so I think that could be an option they offer but hey every family has their own unique spin onto things. Best bbq I have had for an excellent price In a WHOLEEE WHILE. This is why we need more small, family owned, Black-owned businesses. I hope this review helps more traction because they're surely do deserve it all

Yelp
Excellent! My friends and I are debating which was our favorite: ribs, pulled pork, brisket. All super savory and authentic. Delicious sides included Mac and cheese, greens, and beans. ( Beans were served cold and I was skeptical at first but they won me over) . Friendly service. Good music. In terms of decor, they seem to have a Star Wars/ Yoda fetish which I'm down with. We ordered beers from Fiesta bar n grill next door.

Yelp
What a great find for me today in Great Barrington. Momma Lo's is a small take out place in the lobby of the Barrington House. I had the ribs lunch special with pinto beans and Cole slaw. It was righteously delicious. The meat was fall off the bone tender. The taste was the exact right balance of spices. It needed no sauce but the accompanying sauce was excellent nonetheless. The staff was beyond friendly and the service was swift. I will be back to try the rest of their menu.

Yelp
2020: Drove by this place en route to VT and had to stop. Best. Decision. Ever. Ribs: amazing! Bbq chicken: seasoned! Sides: Mac n cheese: creamy! Beans: delish on her scratch made cornbread! I dreamily asked the owner if she would open a restaurant :) FF to 2022 and she and her sons have taken a giant leap of faith & love and just opened Momma Lo's Southern Style BBQ at 284 Main Street in Great Barrington Mass. RUN there it's so Do try the Andreas and Clay since it's named for me and my bf! ‍Tuesday - Saturday and go early; they sell out quickly!

Paula V.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious 5-Star barbecue! We had the Barbecue Chicken and Jerk Chicken which were super delicious! Coleslaw was super fresh. Pinto beans and cornbread were delicious as well!

Yelp
So good! And so happy we don't have to drive too far for good bbq. Ribs were tasty and I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
yuk. brisket tasted rubbery...was not edible....stopped in for lunch...brisket sandwich...hard bread...I really wanted to like this place..very dissappointing. maybe the chicken is better.

Em R.

Yelp
Sorry. This doesn't hold a candle to Smokey Divas in Pittsfield. Maybe they're overwhelmed right now after moving to their new venue. But the prices. I stared and stared, unable to believe what they charge. Did they charge that much in Copake? The chicken was dry and veiny, with not enough sauce. Sides completely forgettable. No eye contact from the people behind the counter, no friendliness. I'll revise this review if they're better next time, assuming I try again. For now, a confusing and expensive disappointment.

Timothy C.

Yelp
I am always satisfied after eating Momma Lo's. I really enjoy the collard greens and the pulled pork, though everything is great. The staff is kind and helpful and focused on quality food.

Fred D.

Yelp
I didn't think it was possible to make Mac n cheese this bland. Literally no taste. The bbq chicken is fine but everything else needs to be cooked longer. I wish they had mashed potatoes as a side but it would probably be as tasteless as the Mac n cheese. The brisket is 50% fat, would be much better if smoked for longer. I wanted to badly to love this place

Artfulscribe L.

Yelp
The heavenly scent coming from the bbq smokers outside drew us in, lucky for us! Like most genuine bbq joints, totally unassuming location with all the love focused on the food. Pulled pork was the real deal (and we're pretty picky down South). I was trying to go vegetarian this month, but not only did this place make me fall off the wagon, the wagon ran me over and left me begging for more!

Yelp
Momma Lo and her sons are incredible hosts. Even though it's takeout, they make you feel at home. We've had everything on the menu multiple times, it's always great and the portions are generous. She sells out early, so don't wait too late or you will miss out! Her barbecue sauce is homemade and amazing and her sides are all good. I don't even like Mac and cheese, but I'll it anything she cooks!

Michelle B.

Yelp
Great pulled pork. Great people. I met the son who was running the smoker and he was polite, funny, and knowledgeable. Will have to go back.
