I'm a Korean Air pilot, and during my layover, someone recommended this restaurant to me. I gave it a try, and honestly, it was even better than some of the top sushi places in Japan. The food was incredible—absolutely next-level. I highly recommend it. Seriously, it's the best!

It's a lovely intimate restaurant in Old Town Alexandria. The lunch started with miso soup and salad and the miso soup was better than average and raised my expectations. We had a grilled yellowtail collar to start but it was served after the sushi (main). We were told that it would take time but I wish they served it before the main. While it was good, it was a bit disappointing. I wish it was grilled to crispier skin. I have mixed feelings about sushi. While the fish was good, the shari to meat ratio made the sushi less enjoyable. Slightly undercooked shari also didn't help. I'm not sure whether it's better to order a la carte or not here as the accompanying California roll was just OK. I hope my experience was a one off.

We were a group of 5 and got seated in less than 10 minutes! the prices are reasonable and the taste of the sushi was delicious! 4 of us shared 6 rolls and it came out to be more than enough for us - and it came to be $26 per person after tip!

Great sushi! FYI - seating is tight, so if you prefer to have the party next to you further than 18" away from you, you may feel uncomfortable here. But even with that, I'd come back for the food!

We came in as a party of five and were a walk-in, so there was a short wait of about 15 minutes. The restaurant is small and very busy, but it had a nice homely feeling. We ordered a few platters, and the food was excellent, as shown in the photo. Service was a bit rushed and abrupt, but that wasn’t a major issue. I had to laugh when I was asked for ID for a beer—at 40, that’s always a nice surprise! The food came out quickly, with good attention to detail and quality ingredients. Just keep in mind they aim to turn tables over fairly fast, so it’s not a place to settle in for a long stay!

Google
It's the best of the best! Appetizers, sushi, sashimi, rolls, and desserts are all the best. The service is amazing, and the interior design of the restaurant is so great. I want to go there every day.

Google
Amazing sushi rolls, but the nigiri was the highlight by far. Excellent toro quality and excellent salmon belly

This is my mommy-daughter date spot. We've been quite a few times, and twice this week! My kid asks for Momo by name. Staff are very kind. It's a small operation, so don't expect racing speed service. But it was so nice to not feel rushed, and it seemed like an easier pace than I'm used to in Old Town. The combo plates are the best price option. You get miso, salad, and multiple rolls. My masago-addicted dining partner was able to add masago to her roll up on request. Nigiri has generous portions of fish, which was a pleasant surprise. Accessibility: It's a pokey little building with steep stairs and close-together tables.

Yelp
I decided to try this spot for my birthday dinner last minute with my brother and was not disappointed! When you come inside it's rather small( a REAL hole in the wall spot), but well lit and super clean. We dined upstairs and enjoyed watching them prepare the food at the counter. So packed on a weekend, so we were lucky to get to be seated after coming from DC. Old town Alexandria has sushi but nothing like this place, they had outstanding service and fresh food. We both got a Japanese beer, miso soup to start and ordered quite a few rolls to share. Everything was great, came out within 15 minutes of ordering and our server was fantastic. We will be back next time we are in the area to try their lunch specials.

Yelp
Momo sushi is a small but quaint sushi place near downtown Alexandria with some of the freshest sushi I've had in a while. I ordered the Hawaiian, the island tuna and veggie roll. Unfortunately I ate too fast for pictures - but as I mentioned the sushi was a delight. The fish was so fresh and flavorful. Our waitress was nice, service was quick, and kept our waters filled. Would go again!!

Vina H.

Yelp
First time here and I would deffinitely come back here again. The service was nice and quick and staff were super helpful and sweet. Cute ambiance and decorated and super small place but all old town alexandria store are no different so I'm not surprise. There are two level and group with more than 3 I think are sent upstairs for bigger seating area. There is an a la carte menu which makes it easy to order. Each sashimi can come in 2 pcs and are cut THICK and sushi here is fresh which are two qualities in sashimi that most people look for. Each roll comes in 6 pcs. We order shrimp tempura, 2 pcs of sashimi, spider roll, salmon roll, california rolls... all were delicious and perfect in size. Price were not expensive as well. If you are in Old town, would recommend you to try this place.

Hunter B.

Yelp
I heard about this place and wanted to try it. Some how we got seated since the place is small and packed with a line. We got fried goyza as an appetizer and that was good. The rolls were on the more expensive side but very solid. This definitely seems more like a takeout place since it is hard to get a table with it being cramped and loud. If you are in old town and want sushi this is a place you stop at.

LoriLynn R.

Yelp
The shimai at Momo is great. The rolls are fresh. Don't let the front deceive you, it has a complete upstairs for ample dining. It's like everything else in old town it may be tough to find a parking spot. The service is great and friendly. The rolls appearance are average.

Yelp
This can't be the same sushi folks wrote five-star reviews for... because I'm not impressed. Maybe it's because I've eaten a lot of sushi in Cali? I'm not sure, but what I do know is that, for $57, I am absolutely not satisfied, and I'm about to offer this food up to anybody desperate for sushi. I'm not going to say this is the worst sushi I've ever had, but it's terrible, especially given the price point. I've never eaten rubbery fish on the top of my rolls, I have now. I ordered online for ASAP. I got to the restaurant and my order wasn't ready. It's fine. The order confirmation came through after I arrived to the restaurant 20 minutes after I placed my order. Oh well. I ordered the White House roll, seaweed salad, roll, and trio amigo roll. I also ordered Gyoza. The only thing that I would consider truly edible is the Geza. These roles have got to go. Slimy fish, small size, and general lack of flavor, I can't. Let me keep it a buck with you. I honestly could have satisfied my sushi craving more with a roll from one of those hibachi places that are popping up all over the place.

C B.

Yelp
Still my favorite sushi place in Northern Virginia. Amazing service. Delicious sushi as always. Even my littles enjoyed it. Yakisoba was a hit with my elementary aged kiddo. Asked for a custom plain grilled salmon and white rice and my infant son loved it.

Kristophe C.

Yelp
Best sushi in DMV. This place is consistent and has been a recommendation I provide anyone coming into the area since 2009

Sabrina G.

Yelp
Since Covid they stop having customers sit inside (this was a note on on the glass). However, rhetorical service was still amazing! The lady who took my order was very patient and polite to me because it was my first time there. The restaurant seems pretty clean from what I was able to see and sanitized. I ordered the soft shell tempura (I thought it was a roll but it wasn't it was my fault). It was still delicious and it comes with a lot. I also got the salmon skin hand roll my first time and it was a little salty but very flavorful. I am definitely going back again.

Sydney G.

Yelp
Always enjoy Momo sushi! My first time dining in since the pandemic and it's just as good as I remember. The space is small so you may have to wait a bit, but the food comes out quickly. I got the salmon combo which is 6 pieces of salmon nigiri and 6 pieces of salmon cucumber roll, plus salad and miso soup. Definitely solid

Kristi W.

Yelp
Saw this place in passing and stopped in right after opening time around 430 pm. on a Saturday. They have seating downstairs and upstairs but not a lot. It's old town Alexandria. That's kind of expected for some of the establishments. No problem, though. I was seated immediately upstairs as a solo diner at the sushi bar. I had a direct view of watching them prepare the menu items that involved sushi, sashimi, etc. That was pretty dope! I was quickly served and ended up trying the Yami Yami Jumbo Roll and the Fire Crunch Roll as well as shumai for my appetizer. The shumai was pretty good. It's definitely not big enough to share with two people. The Fire Crunch Roll was awesome! I could have gotten two of them, but it was pretty large! On to my Yami Yami Jumbo Roll, which was good. It is a deep fried Roll that normally comes with avocado. Disclaimer: My order did NOT come with it because I have an epipen level allergy to avocado. It sucks because I used to love avocado before discovering my allergy. However, that doesn't stop me from enjoying foods that normally come with it. I just let the staff know of my allergies, and they make adjustments from there. No problems. Now, I eat sushi quite often, and this was the first time that I was met with rejection when I asked if the avocado could be switched with cucumbers or even asparagus vs no green at all. Most estaishments are understanding of my allergy and make sure that I'm safe and satisfied with the alternative options. They will even offer recommendations to the roll that I want. However, this experience definitely left a sour taste in my mouth, with being told that they can only remove items but not replace them. On top of that, when I initially mentioned my allergy, my server pointed out the very few items w/o avocado for me to try instead. Maybe she thought she was being helpful, but I had already asked about the Yami Yami roll, which led to the no response on replacing the avocado. I was too tired and hungry to go back and forth and had already walked a bit to get there. So, I just settled for the roll I wanted but without any substitutions. I simply said ok, that's fine. Noted. It does disappoint me because the food was really good, but I probably will go elsewhere for sushi rolls that won't penalize me for having an allergy. Oh, well.

Yelp
I'm a late-comer to Momo, but now I'm a believer. The place is tiny; even with a small upstairs dining area it's still tiny. But that wasn't a negative here. I came for a weekday lunch so it was busy-ish but not too bad. I perused the options and went with the Kan Sai Roll (ell, salmon skin, avocado, crab, cucumber) plus a side dish. Presentation of the sushi was on point, and I loved the crunchy-ness as much as the taste. Next time - Negiri!

Shawn K.

Yelp
We went here for sushi and some alcohol. If you're here strictly for sushi and nothing else, you might get your money's worth. I'm not sure. From what my friend and I discussed, the sushi flavors were balanced. I'm not a connoisseur of sushi, but I believe that's the goal. I got started with a bottle of moonstone Asian pear sake (it's half decent). Their sake selection is rather poor. Pretty generic stuff. The tap water was noticeably bad. The sake glasses used also seemed of poor quality. Got an order of fried pork gyoza. Probably the worst I've had. Uncooked, nearly no sear and soggy from too much oil. The sushi rolls were notably better. I rather enjoyed the spicy salmon roll. I tried my buddy's eel roll which tasted good. As much as I liked the St. Thomas roll, it definitely seemed out-of-the-can. No way they fried the tuna, especially after the debacle the gyoza was. Mochi seemed storebought from frozen aisle. We felt rushed to leave even with a good bit of alcohol left (had quite a bit of beer to drink down). Service was great; staff friendly. Ambience was non-existent due to lack of space. Meal ticket was expensive for what I got out of it. Parking is also atrocious. Good luck.

Katie K.

Yelp
Casual sushi spot with great sushi. The quality of fish is excellent, rolls are creative, and the kitchen doesn't disappoint. Everyone from the hostess, servers, to the sushi chefs are friendly and make you feel welcome. Best sushi spot in the DMV. Highly recommend for an authentic experience!

Anna P.

Yelp
Very surprised by so many good reviews. To start with positive feedback, fish was good and sushi rice was cooked properly. Now to the rest. Place doesn't accept reservations, building is horribly old and after 25 minutes of waiting ( we were told 10 minutes. I would never stay otherwise),we were escorted to the second floor. Stairs are narrow and not safe by my standards. Tables don't have any distance between each other, room is small, air conditioning was poor, chatting was impossible. For 15 dollars I got Key West roll ,only 6 pieces. I think for this price they should have 8 pieces. I am big sushi connoisseur and make me feel so underwhelming is hard.We will never come back.

Cori W.

Yelp
Littlest DD and I went here for an early dinner before walking and Old Town. It is as advertised. It is small and cute with understated ambiance. The service is quick and friendly. The sushi is excellent. We got a dragon roll, spicy tuna, rainbow roll and miso. Would definitely return.

Sharon H.

Yelp
I mean it's not great sushi, but relative to other sushi places in NoVA, it's pretty good. The miso soup is pretty standard... honestly, it's a good place to get food near the waterfront, but nothing really stood out to me.

Evan N.

Yelp
This is a VERY good Japanese restaurant. The food was served with tons of care and it was absolutely delicious!! It felt like we were in Japan. The atmosphere was very nice there were tons of cool paintings to look at! COME TO THIS RESTAURANT IF YOUR NEAR IT, you will not regret it. :)

Jerome M.

Yelp
Went around 1300 and had no issues getting seated right away. I can see parking can be a challenge, but we managed to get lucky to find one in front of the restaurant. Service was great. We sat on the second floor and the chefs prepared everything within reach. I got the sashimi sushi combo and it was plentiful. It came with a salad and miso soup which were both delicious. Sashimi was great and tasted really great and fresh. Sushi was well prepared and tasted good as well. The chef also gave my friend and I a special sushi sample on the house to try which was uniquely good. Overall, highly recommend and I would go back again and again.

Steve M.

Yelp
Great sushi, cool atmosphere (especially the decor), and very fast service! Probably the best sushi in town!

Eydie Q.

Yelp
The place is tight but luckily my friend got a table right away. Sushi tasted great. Their unagi sauce is so good. Service was quick. The only problem I had (not really a problem but a funny story worth mentioning) was there was a bee flying around while we were seated and it landed on me. Then went into my front pocket. My friend had to dig it out with a pair of chopsticks!! He did a Mr. Miyagi (Karate Kid) on that bee. Lol. Anyway crisis averted and it made the dining experience quite memorable. Lol. I'm definitely coming back here. Very good sushi.

Thasin S.

Yelp
BEST SUSHI EVER!! And such a good deal! We started off with the sashimi appetizer and the fish just melted in my mouth. We got the sushi and sashimi dinner box as well as the spicy scallop. Highly recommended! Our server was so sweet and very tentative. Even though the restaurant is small, I loved how cozy it was

Ciaran L.

Yelp
Very small and intimate place with two stories. Bottom level has a few tables and most dedicated for takeout it seems and upstairs is a little more suited for dining in. It's essentially a house converted into a restaurant so expect tight quarters. The food was delicious and fair priced. Service wasn't terrible but not great. We were seated at a 3 seat table and after we got our drinks and ordered they asked us to get up and move to make room for a party of 3 that just came in. Thought that was a bit rude considering they placed us there to begin with. Outside of that we had no issues.

James J.

Yelp
Good food, great staff, wonderful time. Came out to visit my daughter at Howard University and found this place. I will be back.

Lydia C.

Yelp
Very average experience. My husband and I ordered a sashimi regular, salmon regular, and kansai roll (includes eel, salmon skin, avocado). The food was pricey, and nothing was particularly fresh or melt in your mouth delicious. Our special kansai roll was quite average and barely different than an eel avocado roll. However, the sashimi pieces were pretty sizable portions with the salmon sashimi as the best item with nice streaks of fat. The most unpleasant part was how cramped the restaurant was including the tables themselves being small and that you're only inches away from the table next to you. The service was good and they tried their best to clear empty plates quickly, but we only had a few items and it felt like we couldn't move. Some things that weren't necessarily the fault of Momo was that it was very difficult to find street parking on the weekend and there is a ~11% tax in this area of Virginia, after tip our meal of 3 items was nearly $100 for 2 people. Overall, the food was okay and the service was good, but prices were expensive and the experience was not that enjoyable.

Shary E.

Yelp
Great sushi! Was too rushed at end of evening. We couldn't get a reservation earlier so we were basically rushed through dinner, as they stood right over our table waiting for us to finish. We ordered a lot of sushi for four people and two bottles of sake we would've had more sushi andmore sake, but time ran out. Wait staff was very nice, Just a little hovering. They had some gluten-free options which was great. Would definitely recommend.

Katie N.

Yelp
I came in here for dinner and ordered the chirashi bowl at the bar. The restaurant is two stories, but small and has limited seating. There is only street parking available which can be difficult. The waiters and waitresses were super sweet and attentive. The chirashi bowl was delicious and had perfect cuts of fresh assortment of fish on a delicious bed of sushi rice. Overall, I had a great experience, the customer service was amazing, food delicious, and ambience intimate.

Cristina O.

Yelp
I dream about eating this sushi! The pieces of nigiri are so generous and fresh! The quality of the fish is amazing, especially for the price. This is definitely one of the top sushi places in the area. I have been a customer for over 12 years and am grateful Momo is a place that doesn't change. Great service, food options and taste!

Sharmane G.

Yelp
I haven't been here in probably a year, but I think the quality of food changed a little. Thankfully good portion of food still but I think either my tastebuds got a little more picky or they changed the fish quality? Or maybe both? And the wasabi is this neon green which I am not a huge fan. Over all very quick take out service and definitely hits the sushi cravings well! Loved the miso soup though!

Christopher B.

Yelp
Let me just say that I loved the fact this place is in a house and tight and intimate and without TV's or music. It was just a memorable spot to have dinner with friends and co-workers in it's quirky setting. As for the sushi... well, excellent. We had a number of rolls and each was excellent. Of course, everyone had its own angle or taste profile but there was no question of the quality and freshness of the fish. I also had a few sashimi options - same observations. The waitress was excellent. She checked in on us often, explained everything to us, and helped make our experience here fun and enjoyable.

Grace M.

Yelp
Usually I have had a good experience dining in, but today I carried out a large order for myself and friends. When picking up, I specifically asked if there was soy sauce and three sets of chopsticks (I also specified this on the online order) and I was told yes, it's all in the bag and included. Not only is there NO soy sauce, there is only one set of chopsticks. Very disappointing, and I should have checked the bag before leaving. Just a warning!

Andy L.

Yelp
I came here on a business trip to Virginia and had dinner here. I was so impressed by the excellent taste and service that I am leaving this review. I would like to say that the chefs here are world class (in fact, I have traveled to many places around the world on business). Even after returning home, I still remember the taste of the sushi here.

M B.

Yelp
Great menu. Cozy seating. Historic location and not far from some great ice cream shops

Katie B.

Yelp
My husband and I visited here with some friends and we loved it so much we went back for our date night dinner! There is always a wait to get sat but it will well worth it! Got us sat both times within 15 mins. Best sushi we've had from a restaurant!

Anthony I.

Yelp
Always perfectly executed, with a wonderful variety of options. This is our go to and absolute favorite sushi spot in town. Everything is fresh and delicious.

Jenny T.

Yelp
Wanted to update my review since my last one was over a decade ago. A solid go to spot. No frills, tight seating, but they have a solid menu and decent sushi. The chirashi was very filling; would've liked my sushi rice to be a little more tangy/sticky but it was good enough. I love that they include some unagi on the chirashi; it breaks it up a bit. They also include cucumbers, seaweed, and some other pickled vegetables which I like. Lots of street parking on a Monday night and my friend and I were able to walk in at 8pm and get a table. Service is quick and good.

H G.

Yelp
My friends and I went for a stroll in old town ALexandria and watched the Christmas Scottish Parade. When we got hungry, we looked up the closest sushi place with great reviews. We found Momo to be within walking distance from King St. The place didn't disappoint. We had our order served in less than 10 minutes. Fresh sushi rolls and sashimi pieces. Great service too. Headsup, the place is tiny, and gets filled up quickly. It's best if you go right around noon before it gets busy, especially on the weekends. Will go again next time I'm in old town.

Lucy M.

Yelp
Listen here! This is not the best sushi rolls I've ever had but for now, this is probably the best sushi rolls in this area! If you disagree, please send recommendations so I can try! I ordered the following: Pink Lady- delish okra roll - surprisingly good Avocado roll- well, I mean.. it's avocado, nori & rice ‍ Key West Roll- yummy! Spicy Shrimp Tempura - I don't recall tasting it Crab Imperial- okay I have yet to try their dine in experience. Maybe one day they won't be super busy!

Jason L.

Yelp
- Food was good except for tilapia sashimi (cheap sashimi) - Service could be better. The server pushed my gf's chair in without saying excuse me or even mentioning anything (rude!) - Ambiance was not great, crowded and barely enough space to enjoy our food. Server kept bumping into tables and got food on their apron (ew!) - Tables and plates and seats were not clean when we were sat (mid grade sanitation) 3/5 overall, go for the food not the experience ‍

Paul J.

Yelp
My family came down to visit, so we ventured out to Momo with a large party of six. Being in Alexandria, Momo isn't a large place, and we settled into the upstairs area and got two big sushi & sashimi deluxe boats. Fresh fish, atop well seasoned rice, and plenty of sashimi slices. It was so good, we ordered a third boat, and being a large party, the chef gave us an extra order of crunchy tuna rolls and some toro (fatty tuna). Thank you! Add some sake to the mix, and we had a great family reunion. If you're looking for good sushi in a fun atmosphere, give Momo Sushi Cafe a try!

Dylan S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved Momo sushi. It's a cute townhouse restaurant conversion in Old Town Alexandria. It is a small restaurant but it packs a big punch. Very friendly staff, the cutest decor and fresh sushi...what more can you ask for? They took care of us right away. We ordered about 6 or 7 rolls and it took about 22 mins to make. It was quick, and from our table we could see them making it all. Staff was attentive and checked in on us regularly to make sure we had what we needed. The choices they have seem endless and we had an allergy with an ingredient in one of the rolls and they easily swapped it with another ingredient so we could still try it. So good. Will go back again and again! **Note: they are not on Uber Eats or Grub Hub as they have expressed it creates rushed food and they don't like it. It is awesome to see such a busy restaurant say no to public demand to preserve integrity and still be fully seated. This place is a gem.

Ariana B.

Yelp
Just moved to the area, first sushi place to try out. Coming from the west coast my sushi expectations were high and Momo's met those expectations. Not only was the food delicious but wait staff was very kind and professional as well. O

Courtney L.

Yelp
It was a beautiful day out on a Saturday and I decided to try Momo Sushi in Alexandria. The Yelp reviews were great and I decided to treat myself to lunch and try it out. Parking can be a doozy but I did find a spot on the street. When walking inside the establishment, they will direct you to go upstairs. Once upstairs you will see a bunch of tables and chairs. It is not that large of a speaks, but it was empty at the time so I was okay. Once I walked upstairs, there was a waitress ready to take me to a table. She sat me at my table, gave me water, and put the menus down. I love the variety that the menu provides. There was even a special section of the chef specialty sushi which I ordered the fire cracker roll. I did order the house salad, with extra ginger dressing, the miso soup, and ordered a variety of sushi rolls from the menu. All of the food was delicious, and it was made to order. The presentation was perfect as well. Overall the staff was super friendly and super attentive. The chefs knew exactly what they were doing. The sushi quality was excellent.I definitely will go back!

Mike R.

Yelp
Too much sauce! On everything?? Please put away the squeeze bottles chef! Good sushi doesn't require glaze/crumbles on everything and you guys didn't used to do it this way. :/

Megan M.

Yelp
Still one of our weekly go to places. Just wanted to add a photo of some of the sushi!

Susan W.

Yelp
The sushi here was so fresh, creative and delicious. Some of my favorites are the lion king roll, fire crunch roll and the green tree roll. The staff are attentive and friendly. The place is small. Street parking.

Sattva31 ..

Yelp
Service was fast and very friendly. The food was fresh and delicious. Worth the trip and great location with historical walk near by.

Ike O.

Yelp
It's Friday. Time to enjoy the great indoors. Or maybe it's Thurday, and you're about to travel to a city across the world tomorrow. What do you eat that won't make you feel like crap tomorrow? It's Momo. Their sushi is just plain delicious. I get the spicy roll combo every time with a side of spicy tuna. And I crush it all in one delicious sitting. The nicest people serve you your food and the space is very small but it feels intimate. I actually don't get Momo delivery. I pick it up in person but it is worth the journey.

Tiffany N.

Yelp
LOVED this spot! My boyfriend and I celebrated the holidays with dinner here, dining at around 630 on a Sunday. The shop itself is small with limited seating. It was packed full of people waiting for take out orders and there was a short wait for the dining room upstairs, which had about 8 tables. We were seated and served by the nicest and friendliest waiter in the world. We splurged on the Sushi and sashimi combo deluxe, the fatty tuna roll that was on special, and green tea ice cream for desert. For $60 you get a fun sushi boat with generous portions of thick cut sashimi and nigiri, including salmon, albacore, makrel, tuna, shrimp, and unagi. The fish was fresh and delicious. The highlight was the salmon which melted in my mouth, and the super delicious ice cream. So happy I found a good sushi spot! I will definitely come again to try some of their special rolls. This will be my go to spot for sushi near Alexandria from now on
