Monarca Pasta & Grill is a hidden gem nestled in the bustling community of Cascade. This family-run restaurant is renowned for its delicious Italian cuisine, exceptional service and generous portion sizes. Diners delight at Monarca Pasta & Grill’s authentic yet modern take on classic Italian dishes. The garlic bread is incredibly flavorful and guaranteed to please, while their pasta sauce packs a punch – though it is slightly too sweet for some diners. The chef pays close attention to his craft, making sure every dish is cooked to perfection, and the pasta is always served hot. If you’re looking for a filling meal, the Monarca pasta with black sauce is especially delicious, with generous portions and great prices. The fries are also incredibly tasty and well-seasoned, as is most of the food on their menu. The friendly staff can help you find the perfect dish for your cravings. Monarca Pasta & Grill’s pleasant atmosphere and friendly service make it the perfect spot for a family dinner, and the reasonable prices make it an accessible establishment for all. Whether you’re from the neighbourhood or out of town, this little Italian eatery is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression."

Absolutely loved it! I had the fettuccine — it was incredibly delicious: fresh pasta, perfectly balanced sauce, and rich flavor. The staff was kind and attentive. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Taste 10/10 Value 10/10 Service 10/10 Highlights: - Hawaiian pizza was very good and I’m sure their other pizzas would be equally good too because their pizza crust taste perfect & the amount of cheese & sauce used are the right amounts. - Chicken black sauce pasta is the bomb. 1 of the tastiest pastas I’ve had and the you’d want more the more you eat it. Highly recommended 👍

Google
Bomb Italian food for the price! Went here after a long day of walking around the natural history museum and we were hungry. We found this place on maps and decided to check it out. It's located in kind of a shady area but don't let that deter you, the food is great. The 4 stars because the service and atmosphere is a bit lacking so don't come here for a romantic dinner. You get what you pay for, bomb food for good prices! You'll get full and enjoy the food for under $20 for 2 people.

Another visit to Royal Macaron because I am obsessed by the flavor and texture of these delicious pastries. Look at this Latte! This place is a GEM. I met the owner/chef (who also works for the Four Seasons, caters, AND has two other stores; Westwood and WeHo) and WOW! Be sure to try this place. They also have ICE CREAM SANDWICH MACAROONS!! The macaroons and coffee are excellent. I am so happy this place is in the neighborhood. I have given many friends gift boxes of these and EVERYONE loves them.

Yelp
While looking for food in the area, I came across this place based on its reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Chicken Lasagna and the black sauce pasta. I asked the gentleman taking my order if I could add extra veggies to the pasta, but after driving an hour back to my side of town, I realized none of the additional veggies nor shrimp I requested were included. The Chicken Lasagna was decent--different, but I'd rate it a 7/10. As for the black sauce pasta, I was told it would have some spice, but it ended up being more on the sweet side, almost like it had a hint of BBQ sauce. I'd rate that a 4/10.

Yelp
This place was so delicious it has become an absolute staple everytime I go to SoCal. Seriously worth it. Much better than the extremely pricy Italian restaurants.

Yelp
We dined in and had the shrimp pasta and shrimp risotto with pink sauce. So delicious and it was all cooked perfectly. Service was excellent. Price was amazing. They give you free bread and chips as well. There is a parking lot or you can park across the street at Ralph's. They do have a few tables to sit at. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
What can I say this review was long overdue. Oh how I love with place. Three years ago I found this cozy hole in the wall. It's a take on Italian food with a Mexican twist. The food is always consistent and such a bang for your buck. The service is always friendly and welcoming. This is a small family owned business, nonetheless the food is prepared to order and comes out fast. The only con is that they close early so I miss my chance to grab dinner here and there.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the ambience was fun and accessible! In addition to the shrimp scampi spaghetti and bread being delicious so was the lemonade I ordered.

Yelp
Very good food. I had the chicken pasta and my husband had the carne asada. Everything tasted great. The service was also great and the food came out fast.

Yelp
It was our first time here at this place and overall we really liked it! ENVIRONMENT: This place is a hole-in-the-wall hidden gem. It's a very small restaurant with 8 tables total (3 two-person tables and 5 four-person booths). There weren't many people when we went but it might get crowded on other days. We parked on the street to get here. SERVICE: The servers are very friendly & attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Wait time was also very quick. They also gave us free chips and salsa as we waited for our food. FOOD: We ordered 2 entrees: the Carne Asada entree and the Monarca Chicken Pasta. Both dishes had huge portions! - Carne Asada Plate: very delicious, the meathad that nice charred bbq flavor with a hint of lime. It was a tiny bit dry though. It came with a side of rice&beans and garlic bread ...huge portion and very filling! 8.5/10 - Monarca Chicken Pasta: this dish was surprisingly amazing! It was a chicken bowtie pasta dish with pink sauce (tomato + alfredo sauce) and their signature black sauce which is a sweet savory sauce that tastes similar to teriyaki sauce. I feel that the sweetness of the black sauce brought out all the flavors of the pink sauce and chicken. 9/10 -Apple Pie: Their apple pie was not bad, but the crust was kinda hard and not very fresh. But we did like how it was warm and not too sweet, as well as the fact that it came with vanilla ice cream. 6.5/10 PRICE: The prices here are very affordable! Almost every dish was under $15, and there were several that were under $10! This restaurant is really a bang for your buck. Overall, we highly recommend! Great food, great prices, and we will DEFINITELY come back to this place if we happen to pass by the area in the future!

Yelp
The best pasta in LA, and it's super affordable. Would definitely recommend to a friend. 10/10!!

Yelp
Monarca is a little mom & pop restaurant in a tiny shopping center. It may seem a little sketchy from the looks of it, but the food did not disappoint. Came here for dinner with a party of 4. The seating is tight, but it works. I would honestly call it a fusion restaurant as there are Italian, American, and Mexican cuisine options. There is also a parking lot. It is a little small but we were able to find street parking. We were a little confused at first regarding seating, but it is seat yourself. Someone eventually brought us a menu and provided us with beverages. The server was very kind and attentive. She did her best at explaining stuff to us. I got the carne asada with tortillas and rice and beans. As we were waiting for the food, we were given fresh tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were so good as they were crunchy, warm, and sweet. The salsa was not a spicy salsa, but it had a very light taste. The carne asada was well seasoned and moist. The rice and beans were average. The tortillas were not homemade or anything special, but they were good. I enjoyed the food and was very full. The prices at this place are unmatched. The carne asada meal was less than $10. AMAZING!! Overall, I enjoyed the food and would most likely come back here.

Yelp
Good: blackened shrimp and rice, cheeseburger and fries, monarca pasta (pink sauce with ribbon pasta. Not too many seats here but the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Everything we've had has tasted great.

Yelp
Monarca is a small restaurant located in a similarly small strip mall about a mile from USC. What I really appreciate about this place is that it is not in a pretentious area but it still has extremely good food AND pricing. There is some parking in the strip mall, but it can get pretty tight (literally) and/or full. There's plenty of street parking across the street. We weren't really sure what to do when we arrived since no one really greeted us and there weren't really any directions, so we seated ourselves. Our server has friendly and ensured all of our orders were correct. The chips and salsa were fantastic. We asked for multiple bowls because they were that good. One time, we even got a hot, freshly made batch and they were amazing. We ordered some guac and it was ok--kinda of bland but still good. I had the lobster ravioli with pink sauce (a mix of tomato + Alfredo sauce) and loved it. I could definitely taste the lobster in each bite. The garlic bread was good, too, and it was great dipping up the me extra sauce with the bread. I would definitely return!

Yelp
This place is one of those hole in the wall places that people don't really know about but they serve really good food. It's located near USC so students should definitely come here to check out the food because they serve a pretty big portion for a good price! This place is small and it's definitely not for big parties. My sister and I found parking on the plaza next to it which I believe belongs to this place?? I ordered the spaghetti shrimp pasta and my sister ordered the baked tilapia. The portion size of the baked tilapia was HUGE. It came with rice, beans, and the tilapia. It's definitely enough to have for 2 meals. The shrimp pasta was delicious as well; the shrimp was thoroughly cooked, the sauce was perfect. I've seen lots of pictures on Yelp that there were suppose to top off the pasta with shredded cheese but my dish didn't have that. The portion size for the pasta wasn't HUGE but it did leave me full, with alittle leftover. One of the best things about this place was that it came with free nacho chips with green salsa dip, and garlic bread which were all very yummy as well. Both of our meals came out to be around $23 which is a decent and affordable price compared to other pasta shops. I believe that they sell $6 pizzas that look really tasty when I saw pictures of it on Yelp and that's super cheap. The quality of the food is decent compared to the price. If you're in the USC area, you should definitely check out this place!

Yelp
This place continues to amaze me every single time. Very flavorful, I've tried so many plates and they are all delicious. From Italian to Mexican and American dishes everything tastes good. Everyone is always happy, the place is always clean and smells good. Very affordable. Service is great every time. The plates are always hot and taste fresh. Glad it's close to USC, we needed this.

Yelp
My sister randomly found this place since she was looking for food near USC. It is a small restaurant in the same plaza as Olympian diner, and if you drive by, you most likely would not have noticed it. We wanted to come on a Tuesday, but apparently they're closed on Tuesdays. It was a bit difficult locating the restaurant and finding parking, but we parked behind the plaza because the parking lot for this plaza is small. The place is smaller than I expected; you order up front, and then go sit down. They bring out a plate of chips and a small bowl of salsa. The salsa and chips were just okay, but it was free and good way to past the time. They also brought out some garlic bread (it was mostly just butter) right before we received our food. I ordered tilapia, which comes with rice and beans, and my sister ordered the shrimp pasta. The dishes were huge, especially my tilapia. It was two pieces of fish, 1/3 plate of mashed beans, and 1/3 plate of rice. I usually hate beans, but this beans was actually good because it tasted nicely seasoned. It was the perfect wet-consistency. I even dipped my garlic bread into it. The rice and fish were also really nice, especially after squeezing some lime juice on top of it. I only ate less than half the plate and took back the rest for another meal. The meal portion is huge, and for about $10 or $11, I think this is pretty affordable for how many meals you can make out of this.

Yelp
Super yummy and affordable mom and pop restaurant! My best friends and I came here on a Sunday night ~ 6:30pm and it was pretty packed already because it only has 4-5 group tables and 3 two-person tables. We actually ended up ordering first because there were no group tables when we first came in. But we waited 5-10 minutes, a table eventually opened up and we sat down. We were served chips and salsa once we had a seat and they were pretty delicious. The chips tasted fresh and warm and the salsa was a nice savory kick. The pasta was truly the highlight though. I ordered the seafood pasta and it was sooo delicious. Just the right amount of creamy with a decent amount of seafood. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who loves pasta.  Sure parking is hard (we went around the plaza two times) and the restaurant is small and dinky. But I'm all about taste and affordability so this checks off the boxes for me. The server was super nice and sweet as well so that was a plus!

Emma L.

Yelp
Food is so good. I recommend the seafood pasta and apple pie. Prices are very reasonable and portions are good size. Yurrrr

Yelp
Excellent mom and pop shop. Pastas are delicious and portions are huge. Family staffs are always friendly.

Yelp
The service is always good. My go to is the shrimp Alfredo and the caribbean Pasta. It's so tasty and it's all home made and fresh

Yelp
Food is excellent and very tasteful, prices are good considering that the food is delicious.

Yelp
Well, what can I say. I like this place. It is small. But the food compensates it all. Why? Because the dishes served here are phenomenal. The pastas are delicious. If you come here, you have many option in the menu, mainly Italian dishes but some Mexican plates too, for example: Pasta primavera, Pasta chicken fetuccini, Black shrimp plate, Florentina chicken pasta, Spaghetti shrimp pasta, Chicken ravioli... Grilled beef tacos, grilled chicken burrito, grilled hamburger, Carne asada plates etc etc etc. The place is very clean and the thing is that the staff and owners are really nice, they are very friendly. The prices are affordable, not pricey but delicious.

Calvin T.

Yelp
Extremely large portions for a reasonable price. Food is amazing and they bring out free chips/bread on the side. The chicken alfredo was perfectly done.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
This place is pretty amazing. Super fresh and delicious Italian food with some interesting fusion options. The pasta is half the price of other places and leaves nothing to be desired. Great attention to detail and some thoughtful culinary nuance like garlic infused house bread. I didn't know that I wanted roasted corn on my house salads before coming here. Ma & pop hole in the world to its finest. Only regret was not being hungrier.

Yelp
A great choice for USC students, cheap and close by campus! Also great for anyone in general who wants some cheap, quality pasta for a quick lunch. Kind of a hole in the wall, not many people know about this place and it's about $8-9 on average for a meal here. Florentina chicken pasta, best dish they have. The spaghetti shrimp pasta was delicious as well, but I liked the Florentina pasta the most! I don't think I've had this good of pasta in a while, it's probably because Pasta Roma is just mediocre. If you're not feeling pasta, they also have other types of food like the grilled hamburger. My bf loved the hamburger and the fries come with an amazing sauce! Also, the hamburger came with a drink and we got lemonade, but felt like it was too diluted so if you get a drink, stick with soda. Service was great, the lady working is so attentive and sweet! In this kind of restaurant (where you pay first at the register), usually employees don't give you much attention after ordering, but she kept checking up on us and refilling our water. Everything about this place is on point, except the parking. Street parking is almost impossible unless you're really lucky, and if you want to park in that tiny parking lot, you have to be patient and wait for someone to leave. But since their food is bomb, I won't dock a star for the terrible parking situation.

Yelp
Garbage !! Disgusting food never come here ever again avoid this place the flavors are all out of wack who puts onions in Alfredo ??? Dry overcooked chicken !
google avatar

Derek T.

Yelp
I am personally a fan of hole in the wall dining because the wait is nonexistent. This place looks shabby and none too spectacular but the food is pretty good. And plentiful. Nevermind that they serve a plethora of culturally different food like italian, mexican, and what not. I got seafood pasta which was pleasantly cheap and pretty yummy. The best part is that they did not skimp out on seafood. For what you pay, it's a pretty good deal.
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely a gem tucked away near USC! The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food and service on the inside is amazing! Service Right when we entered, we were warmly greeted but a nice lady, who showed us to our seats. Throughout our entire time at the restaurant, she was very attentive and constantly came by to check up on us. Food I ordered the chicken fettucini with alfredo sauce and it was very flavorful and delicious. They provided a good portion that wasn't too much to the point where I was going to explode but not small enough to the point where I would still be hungry. My boyfriend ordered the chicken risotto and he loved it as well. Also, they give free chips and salsa AND garlic bread!!! LIKE WHAT!?? They already had me at free but the chips and salsa + garlic bread were also very good! Value Both of our meals came out to be around 20 dollars and for all the quality food I am definitely sold on this place!

Yelp
Whew Chile let me tell u this is the spot don't be fooled by the area the plaza or the pics on the wall it's the bomb. They better not change a thing or go no where this is my new addiction even though I need to lay off the carbs i don't care this food is delicious in my budget and it's a great portion I had the lobster ravioli can't wait to try the seafood pasta next
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! Have been an Olympian Burger fan since I was a kid and decided to try this place on a whim about a year ago. Been coming here ever since. My parents love their past and it is very reasonable prices. I've tried most of their pastas and burger and they are all pretty good. Come give it a try!
google avatar

Arianne M.

Yelp
This place is definitely a little gem with affordable and quality food. I have been multiple times, the fajita pasta is my favorite. Do not pass this place up especially you students balling on a budget!

Yelp
Hmmm really good for the price and quality, very generous amount yet satisfying. I will definitely go back to try the rest whenever im craving for italian food aka high carb food lol

Yelp
As the gentrification around USC continues, less frequented restaurants are gaining in popularity. Located near the Olympian diner this small vintage establishment is a direct throw back to dual kitchen eateries in Los Angeles. It's exactly the type of place you'd expect to see in a blockbuster Indie movie. The food served is both Mexican and Italian cuisine. The interior says it all, it was here before you and it will be here long after you leave/graduate. My co-party and I ordered the penne veggie pasta and the camarones negros. Both entrees arrived without a long wait and served while hot. The freshness of the ingredients is apparent, clean textures and both were full flavored. The service was good enough but you dont come to a place like this for service, you come for the experience.

Yelp
Where do I start!!! Thank you Yelper's because this place is amazing!!! Both my husband and I had very delicious meals. The seafood pasta and the Shrimp Beotchetas was amazing. The prices are extremely cheap and affordable. I wished I lived closer I would go every week.

Lawrence E. Buda J.

Yelp
Oh my God I went here before and the food is like so amazing. The pasta is mine blowing. I'm telling you with something that everybody should try. It'll be experience in your life one that you really need to try. I'll give them five stars all the way, if I had five thumbs they would all go up. If you ever have a taste for some delicious Cajun pasta or meat that is grilled to perfection. This is a place that you truly need to try.good

Yelp
Wow just wow I live about a mile away from this place I've been living in this area for 5 years now and this is my 1st time going there I order their lobster ravioli with cream sauce and when I tell you it's so feeling and flavorful and the price is great I will definitely be back

Yelp
Writing this review m bit confuse whether to give 3 or 4 stars . If I cud have I suddenly have given 3.5 Here is my explanation , this place is quite cheap just a$ place . Italian food here taste much better than many other Italian places with much higher rates so definitely value of money overall . They serve chip n salsa as free starter - chips were fresh but salsa was just ok , lacked salt n sourness n was bit spicy Shrimp pasta - spaghetti with tomato sauce was good had 8 shrimps which is more than I expected in $10 dish , but sauce lacked seasoning of salt n pepper n I didn't get taste of basil which I need for my pasta . Chicken ravioli was good ,was quite filling but again the chicken filling lacked salt n seasoning Tilapia baked : this was definitely a good dish . Good size fillet of tilapia , properly baked served with rice n beans They didn't have any kind of dessert . And food lacked seasoning but price of this place compensates for lot of stuff . So ppl who are looking for amazinggggg Italian food n ready to spend money this place might not make ur soul 100%happy but if u wanna make ur pocket happy with satisfying taste glands then definitely this place Overall I don't feel this place is 4 stars but definitely not 3 stars so m rating it as 4 .

D P.

Yelp
Love their pastas! And their service! Their portions are so large you can make 2 meals out of them! Super generous

Jake C.

Yelp
Really small place, hole-in-the-wall Forsure! Once you find it though, the restaurant is filled with people and immediate service. I ordered take-out for my girlfriend and I, the food was inexpensive and delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Highly recommend the Florentina chicken pasta one of the best bang for your buck ! Grab a pizza for the kids also good
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
For the price, the seafood pasta is awesome. I love how they put so much seafood for only 10 bucks! The shrimp is never overcooked either. This place beats Viztango hands down. There's complimentary warm homemade tortilla chips and salsa as a starter and crispy garlic bread which is delicious when dipped in leftover pasta sauce. The pasta here never disappoints and is always consistent in flavor unlike viztango which can be super salty/bland sometimes. The service here is also awesome, they always refill your drinks. If you don't want to spend a lot on Italian food, this place is a cheap alternative. Major downside is the parking, its practically non existent in this plaza. Its best to park along the street beside the traffic meters, or along the school if the appropriate time allows it.

Audrey A.

Yelp
SOOOOOOOOO GOOD. The lobster ravioli was the best thing ever. 10/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would DEFINITELY come back.
google avatar

Adrian C.

Yelp
The prima Vera fettuccine Alfredo I ordered did not have the asparagus the menu listed. It was also linguine, and Alfredo was MIA. There was no knowledge of what an Alfredo is. For the record it's: butter, cream, garlic and Parmesan cheese. The portion was scant and was broccoli, carrots and cauliflower; no asparagus or mushrooms as indicated. Tender, but absolutely no flavor.
google avatar

Isabel C.

Yelp
Italian fast food at its finest!!!! Pace yourself as the food is freshly made and pipping hot off the "sauce pan". Super classic menu with lots of items suitable for all ages and preferences.

Yelp
Came here with the bf and a friend for lunch! The parking is in a very small plaza, probably only enough for 20-25 cars. There's street parking on 27th Street though. We walked in and the place is fairly small. Everything is so orange lol there are 5 tables on one side of the restaurant seating about 4 people each and then on the other half of the restaurant there are 3 small tables sitting 2 each. What we ordered: Pasta Chicken Fetuccini with Creme&Tomato Sauce - very flavorful. The combination with the two sauces were actually really good. Chicken wasn't dry either. Pasta Primavera with Creme&Tomato Sauce - again very flavorful. Lots of textures with the vegetables and the pasta itself. Chicken Ravioli with Tomato&Garlic Sauce - love the cheese and chicken combo in the ravioli. Definitely garlic-y. Fries - delicious! Some are crunchy and some are soft, but they are very flavorful! Come with a thousand island type of dip. Drinks Total came out to be: $37 None of the dishes disappointed us. Great food.

Yelp
I was REALLY craving some cheap spaghetti and meatballs that I had recently eaten in Vegas at various food courts. I'm not talking nice basil spaghetti with high quality noodles. I'm talking plain marinara sauce and noodles sitting in garlicky olive oil with 2 big meatballs sold at places specializing in pizza. I called Pasta Roma and Viztango and was told that the total would be $11 dollars with extra marinara. THE SAME PRICE AS VEGAS where everything is overpriced. I then called Monarca and they told me it would be $7.95 and wouldn't charge for extra sauce. (The three dollar difference could get me at least 2 McChickens!) I ordered it for to-go and they took about 15 minutes to make it. I wanted a plain marinara sauce but the sauce was a meat sauce with a lot of small meatballs. The portion was HUGE and even though I eat a lot, I was able to eat two filling portions. The bread was just okay. It didn't have much flavor but it's good to eat with the spaghetti sauce. Parking was a pain in the butt and it took 10 minutes just to get out because cars were coming in from both sides of the VERY narrow parking lot. Bike/walk there if you can!
