The monastery was no longer active as a monastery anymore it seems but it is very beautiful and amazing architecture. It’s easy to access from Centro using the bus number 8. There is a very cute cat in front of the main door. The monastery used to be a large as it shown in the replica but now remains just small part.

This monastery is really impressive. It is not far from the city centre, and you can easily get there by bus, which takes less than 15 minutes. For me, it is one of the most beautiful monasteries I have seen. There is a lot to see and take in. The audio guide they provide is great, giving you lots of interesting information. And honestly, the photos speak for themselves. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in Granada.

I went before it was open so I could only see the outside. I has a beautiful small park at th door and some souvenir shops. What got my attention was the statue on top of the front door which has baby head and hands (see pictures for details). Not sure if on purpose or if it was replaced somewhere in time. Would love to hear about the backstory on this.

This is one of the stops on the site seeing bus. Most people make the mistake of not getting off and missing this little gem hidden away. Very impressive church and only €6

Beyond the simple exterior is an opulent interior. The church is one of the most extravagantly decorated religious building I have ever seen. The carved stone is absolutely beautiful. Although the decoration is eye watering it somehow works to form a harmonious whole. The church and various other rooms contain a massive collection of religious works by Cotain and Carduchio.

A bit distant from the town centre, but definitely worth the visit, especially as it is very quiet and nice to enjoy. The church is loaded with details to see. The sacristy is very beautiful, and considered by the monastery the most beautiful in the world; which is hard to challenge: the use of light and art and architecture makes you feel peace and wonder around every corner. In my opinion this place is a must visit while in Granada.

The Monasterio de La Cartuja’s church is a stunning masterpiece of Spanish Baroque architecture. The intricate carvings, gilded altars, and radiant ceiling frescoes, illuminated by natural light, create a serene and spiritual ambiance. The central altar, with its detailed statues and ornate patterns, was particularly captivating. This visit was both visually and spiritually enriching, leaving a lasting impression of awe and tranquility. A must-see for anyone visiting Granada.
