Where to Stay in Budapest (Updated 2025)

"Housed in a 300-year-old abbey, this modern four-star hotel impressed me with original exposed brick in many rooms, large comfy beds, good shower pressure, desks and electric kettles, and a delicious breakfast featuring fresh pastries, fruit, and yoghurt near Fisherman’s Bastion." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Budapest in 2025

"Located in a 300-year-old abbey, this four-star hotel features original exposed brick and stone walls in many rooms and in the restaurant area, which looks really cool; the décor is simple and minimalist with a relaxing light palette. I found the breakfast delicious—fresh pastries, fruit, yogurt, eggs, veggies, and lots of fresh bread—and the beds are comfy in bright, airy rooms with lots of natural light. Bathrooms are spacious with towel warmers and showers with good water pressure; rooms also include desks, electric kettles, and flatscreen TVs. Overall, it’s an elegant, conveniently located property near key sights that won’t break the bank." - Matthew Kepnes

A wonderful 3 night stay in the hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful, every time we walked past they were polite and asked if we were okay. The room was small but very pleasant and clean. We stayed on the ground floor by reception, noise level was fine even being so close to roadside it was quiet at night. We asked for more towels, hair dryer and iron and it was all brought to our room very quickly. I would highly recommend, there are some lovely restaurants/cafe near by, you are local to many tourist attractions. Highly recommend the restaurant opposite. The breakfast was lovely, food was very nice. They did their best to accommodate for gluten free. In walking distance of lots of things and easy access to all public transport. We would definitely return and recommend to others. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay wonderful.

Wonderful stay at the Monastery Hotel. It was close to a friend‘s apartment and says super convenient for them but more than that. It’s in a great location in the city. Lots of restaurants and bars around. Close to public transportation and a block off the Danube so it’s hard to beat the location. The breakfast buffet was especially delicious and the staff couldn’t have been friendly and more helpful. I definitely stay here again if I wanted to be in this part of the city.

First impressions were good and only improved during our stay the hotel. It was in a good spot just set back off the river on the Buda side of the city.||The receptionist that greeted us was friendly and helpful.|Our room was very nice, comfortable, clean and we had a lovely stay. Breakfasts had plenty of choice and items were replenished quickly when taken.||There are 2 restaurants attached to the hotel. We went to Umo which was a South American and there was also a Russian restaurant which we didn’t visit.||Food at the restaurant was very good but we didn’t realise it was in the Michelin guide and therefore it is on the expensive side and portion sizes are on the small size.||However staff were very nice and couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a good time so we enjoyed it.||We asked reception to book us a taxi to return to the airport which they were happy to do.||All in all a wonderful stay, thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make our stay so enjoyable.

First time staying in a 3 star hotel but we only wanted a quick 3 night get away and knew we would be out all day so wasn’t too fussed about the hotel. ||A friend booked this hotel for us and we were pleasantly surprised. It’s in a good location for the castle but if you have mobility issues then this hotel is not for you. We were having to do a steep climb to get to Fisherman’s Bastion so if I were to stay in Budapest again I would pick the Hilton that is literally on the square. ||The hotel was ok. Towels were small and the hairdryer was all but useless but I’m not sure if that’s standard for a 3 star hotel. The breakfast also wasn’t great. However. It was simple and doable just for a few days. Any longer it would be an issue. ||There were people painting in the corridor which is fine it’s nice that it was getting some fresh paint but the carpet in the room was stained. I think hotels should have hard flooring if they can’t keep the carpet clean as it just looks cheaper.

Lovely place to stay and very easy to get around. The two ladies at reception were friendly and welcoming. However, the young male on night duty had a rude and impatient attitude. Overall, a good stay

Location and food were spot on. Very nice indeed. What takes my rating down from a 5 to a 2 star was 3 things. Firstly the room could have been cleaner (found crisps on the floor and nightstand from the guests before me), secondlyWhen i brought snacks i had purchased myself into the room they tried to bill me for it saying it was from the minibar, and finally the fact that they refused to change my taxi reservation when i wanted to leave earlier than planned. A very strange experience. It made me feel unwanted as a guest.

We were delighted with the location of this unique hotel, very walkable to the sites on the Buda side of the Danube. Be aware, however, about a few unfortunate things. There is a set of 5 stone steps at the entrance and no one to carry up the luggage. We were disappointed with the condition and amenities in our room: carpet stained with urine and other spots with the explanation that the carpet showed stains but was clean; thin, stained towels; very flat pillows; the red decorative throw across the end of the bed was thrown in a pile on the floor by housekeeping and left there; no shampoo, only body wash and conditioner. When asking for shampoo, we were provided with more body wash.

Awesome location right across the river, good restaurants in and around the hotel, great staff, superb breakfast, cozy rooms, hot and good pressure showers and a comfortable bed.. well you actually can't ask for anything more.. but yes there is indeed something more! Small and not crowded and you feel kind of homely...
