Mondello

This beach is accessible from Palermo by city bus. It's a nice beach with beautiful blue water, but the facilities are lacking. There are no public toilets. The beach is free, but there is only a thin strip of sand open to the public, so it is very crowded. You can pay a lot of money for access to private beach areas with chairs and umbrellas, but those areas are not next to the water.

This is a nice beach to relax in and the sand bar go out far so you can wade out really far. The restaurants and bars around are good but none serve you right on the beach, so that's unfortunate.

Close to Palermo, we visited this busy beach on a hot and sunny September Saturday and spent a couple of hours in the sunshine and warm surf. The beach is pretty big with a mix of public and private spots but we didn't have a problem finding a Sandy socially distanced spot. There are lots of vendors prowling around to sell refreshments and beach blankets and people of all ages, shapes and sizes enjoying the salty sea. Parking can be tricky but we found a space in a private lot that was only €3. We arrived around 12:30 and headed to one of the many beach front restaurants prior to staking out our spot. Even in mid September the sun and water were warm. We spent a couple of hours. Just ok for beach walking, but superb for bobbing in the water. The western side of the crescent beach where we were had a very gradual Sandy bottom perfect to enjoy the warm water.

Get there!!! A nice break from the city on a hot day. It's not Hawaii or Maldives so temper expectations. It has local charm for sure and great people watching. Not huge food selections across the street or from the guys hawking drinks (water, beers, etc) and blankets on the beach so bring snacks. Rent your beach chair/umbrella before you come. On a sunny day and the water is magic, life the aforementioned spots. Sip a spritz from across the street, Enjoy the noise, the crowd and indulge your closest locals interaction in Palermo.

Just a short bus ride away from one of the filthiest and hectic sites in the western world there is this lovely spot, surrounded by cliffs with soft sand, clear blue waters and plenty of cheap gellato. Best time to visit is shortly before or after the summer season, as usually during summer momths most of the beach is occupied by commercial operators that charge an arm n a leg in order to enjoy a piece of sand.

This beach was amazing. Not too crowded. Water was crystal clear. We had bar service at our beach umbrella. They have paddle boats with slides. Wind surfing, snorkeling, paddle boarding and a ton of other activities. Highly recommend

The water in this beach is awesome! You have to walk pretty far in for the water level to go above your waist, which was an unexpected surprise. The water is clean, great views and nice temperature, not rocky at all on the beach floor.... can't get much better than that. A few things to note about the beach. How to get there: You can take the bus from Palermo, it's pretty cheap (less than 3 euro each way), it's about a 30 min bus ride. Once you get there, it can get a bit confusing at first. There is a huge boardwalk, but it is lined with a bunch of private clubs. Remember this, you are looking for yellow umbrellas. These are 10 euro for two ppl(after 2pm, double before that). All the other ones are private, so don't waste your time with those. With that you get an umbrella and two chairs. This is in a semi-private area. What I mean by that is that anyone can walk in from the beach side to this area, so not sure how safe your stuff is. Once you get out of this private area, there is about 5 meters (10 feet) of sand before you hit the beach... that was the only disappointing part of it, this part of the beach feels really tiny, so unless you rent an umbrella in the "private area" be prepared to have people walking all over you. Bottom line, if you are in Palermo, you should def. do a day trip to this beach!

This is a beach with GORGEOUS water - I'm talking see through and shallow for a long time. Like that beautiful turquoise light shade of blue that visibly changes to deep blue further out. Sand is fine and lovely. Downside is that it is packed in June-August, especially around the Italian holiday of ferragosto near the 15th of August. If you come then, head all the way around the curve towards the northern most end of the beach and the water is cleaner there with fewer people, though it is more rocky. For 10 euros a day you can go to one of the little private areas where you get an umbrella, lounge chair, and have access to platform on the sea from which you can jump in (as well as bathroom, shower, and changing room). Easy to get here from downtown Palermo as there is a direct bus. Keep an eye out for the ice cream truck "La Delizia" in the summer - they have a shop in Sferracavallo but bring some of their gelato out here in the summer.

A year ago, I was here at this beach. What a great place! My Italian friend is sailor and a windsurfer instructor, he took us out in the Mediterranean Sea. The water was perfect. We swam and kayaked along the cliffs.....it was the most beautiful scenic ever...almost like from a movie. We couldn't take pictures because we had our belongings locked up on the mainland. People here are very beautiful and super nice. Bring your beach stuff and enjoy this beautiful view! Definitely one of the best beaches in the world.

Best beach within a short distance from Palermo. Mostly locals and tourists from other parts of Italy. We never heard English spoken the entire time we were there. Beach is great although a good part of it is private. Ideal for kids because the water depth is shallow for quite a distance. Very clear and clean ocean, couldn't get enough of it.

This is great beach. I'm not an expert in beaches, but it's not a 5-star. It's long. It has public access with a narrow shore line, where other space up to the street is dedicated to be paid for. Some allocated "umbrella areas are not accessible by public. They are for private clubs or even for military. You must look for yellow umbrellas. They are for public, but to be paid €10 pp.. There're some discounts for groups of three or four people and other types as well, like, if you go to the beach after 2 p.m.. Toilets are free to use and are separate for men and women. Soap is there. All good. Beach is quite crowded and no space for a ball games or beach pong/tennis. Minus 1 stars for the narrow beach for free public use. Plenty of water flowers/grass on shore and beginning. Cannot swim too far, maybe 60 meters. Some activities to do: rent a wind surf board, pedal boat with slide for children, kayaks. Plenty of buggers offering water, beer, coconuts, fake jewelry, beach towels/sheets. Just keep saying "No, grazie". What is nice here, is the surrounding of mountains. They are lovely.

When I think of paradise, I think of Mondello beach. What once was a small fishing village is now a beach lovers paradise in Palermo. If you venture out to Southern Italy, make sure you visit Sicily and make it a point to visit this beach. The views and the crystal waters are absolutely stunning. You'll find a ton of places to grab drinks and arancini nearby as well. Mondello beach does not disappoint.

This beach is adequate, narrow beach area but very long. It is actually pretty nice, with enough free public access if you don't want to rent a chair. It gets pretty crowded, so you might have to walk a bit to find space. The water is superb, I mean you can walk for quite a distance before the water even gets to your chest area and I'm only 5'5. One of those waters where you can see your toes if the water is on your knees, it's amazing. The Mediterranean waters gives great tan, so after splashing around, soak up some sun, don't forget sunscreen, the sun can be brutal. There are lots of vendors, trying to sell you all kinds of things, just ignore them if not interested, no need to be rude. Bring your own food and drinks, it's very pricey to eat by this beach. Don't be shocked if the bus from central Palermo isn't working, Italian transport loves to strike which on one trip we found out. By car it's faster.

This fabulous beach, hailed as one of Europe's best, is flanked on either side by dramatic cliffs that plunge into the Mediterranean Sea. The water is usually crystal clear, and quiet wave action makes for great swimming and boating. Quite a variety of accommodations are available, from the wooden cabanas frequented by locals, to the upscale private beach with bar (look for yellow umbrellas and blue sun chairs). Or, you can enter the beach from the sides and avoid the charge all together (the area closest to the water seems to be public). Lots of eating and shopping options in the town of Mondello, and the best part: its only a 15 minute public bus ride from downtown Palermo!

Such a nice beach. I live in England but was in Palermo for a holiday. It is 20-30mins by bus from central Palermo. The beach is relatively clean and it is surrounded by awesome mountains. The annoying thing is that there were a lot of salesmen who wanted u to buy something. They offered everything - from clothes to food.
