Monjuso Shorotei (Miyazu, Kyoto Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Monjusou Shourotei represents the apotheosis of the ryokan, or traditional Japanese inn. Set on a garden-rich, forested spit of land backed by a Buddhist temple, it overlooks the inland Asoumi Sea, granting enviable views on all sides. Communal hot-spring onsen occupy the central courtyard, surrounded by rooms in an evocative sukiya wood-framed style. Tatami flooring and low-set chabudai tables lend interiors a traditional Japanese ambience, with indoor-outdoor layouts and tranquil terraces completing the picture." - Tablet Hotels

Thank you for making our engagement weekend so special ~ ♥️ The service was incredible and the ladies that looked after us were very attentive and kind. I think it’s safe to ignore any negative reviews, I really can’t imagine what they’re talking about because everything about our stay was flawless. You would have to be exceptionally picky to find anything to complain about. The room was huge and beautifully decorated, dinner and breakfast wonderful and very well prepared. They even gave us an engagement present ~ two little bunnies ~ which we will surely use as our cake toppers and display proudly in our home for many years. Well worth the money for a special experience.

From arrival to departure we were treated with kindness and warmth. The staff, ever helpful, gave space and privacy that cultivated a truly rejuvenating experience. Nestled at the end of a beautifully curated peninsula, it’s not an understatement to call Shourotei an oasis in one of Japans already top 3 most beautiful areas. |The bathroom and sliding doors allowed for a private and intimate experience, to bathe and hear the ocean lapping outside. The food was delicious and filling. The breakfast specifically was a wonderful start to the day. The large baths immaculately clean, and beautiful in their presentation, allowed for a traditional onsen experience. Modern luxuries, like A/C, stocked refrigerator, and nespresso coffee maker were provided and complimented the overall subtle elegance from this space. |We fully plan to visit and book this ryokan again. A truly wonderful, and unforgettable experience.

Amazing 5 star ryokan with top notch service. Lots of privacy! Smart TV in the room with Netflix was a surprise bonus! We love the tatami mat room with the beautiful and calming view of the river. Onsen is lovely, especially the outdoor onsen. Dinner's ( we had 3 dinners) quality & variety are commendable .

Monjusou Shourotei is one of the best ryokans that we have been to. Secluded location but steps away from the Amanohashidate town area, warm traditional Japanese service, quintessential Japanese style rooms that is very modern and everything feels high quality and well taken care of, fantastic private and public onsen and great food.

The ideal place to stay for a couple with a higher budget. Traditional ryokan, with western beds, and western seating during meals. Strong recommend. Top notch service, very calming and exclusive ambience. Beautiful surroundings and decor

This is a truly magical place. The time stands still while you enjoy every detail of the traditional room design and the beauty of the japanese garden with the quite Asoumi sea in the background. Together with the peaceful atmosphere around Amanohashidate the stay brings a deep rest to your soul.

Excellent location. Make sure to follow that narrow road next to the entrance of the temple. It is next to the tourist boat pier, and depending on your room you might be facing the Amanohashidate. Great staff and hospitality as always. Nice room which were recently renovated. Overall a great experience even for foreigners.
