Things I Want to Try in London

Google
Took my wife to Monkey & Me, still as good as I remember! Monkey & Me used to be my go-to lunch spot when I worked just a couple of minutes away, and I’m happy to say it’s still just as great. This time, I brought my wife along to share the experience, and she loved it too. The food is full of flavour, fresh, and comforting, exactly what you’d hope for from a quality Thai place. The staff were welcoming and the service was quick. It felt good to be back, and even better to introduce someone else to it. Highly recommend!

Google
Staff are very smiley and welcoming however service is slow, maybe they were busy but we waited 30 mins before we received our drinks and another 20 mins till our food came. People who came after us seemed to get served before us which was bizarre. The river prawn is only one prawn for the price, which we didn't know when we ordered to share between the two of us (you can see the picture, apologies I ate some of it as I was so hungry). Unfortunately food is average, not a lot of flavour and quite simple but was ok to eat. Bringing the food out was slow but they are very quick to bring to the bill! Good if you're trying to get out quickly

Google
A nice looking, small Thai restaurant. The food sadly tasted as bland as cardboard. At £20 for a drink and two courses maybe it’s ok value but there’s better Thai food to be had pretty much anywhere else.

Donna

Google
This is a very nice restaurant in a convenient location. The food is nicely presented and tastes great. They serve authentic Thai food with a good selection of menu. There are many large tables good for group social. I would recommend it if you are looking for high-quality Thai food. The only thing is that this place is very noisy. If you want to talk, you have to shout.

Google
The restaurant is beautiful and located in the middle of Marylebone. The service was really kind to us and the food was good! The price could grow quickly depending on drinks and dishes. Pad thai and prawns were the best for us. Food was served quickly. Again, the best the service received! If you're in the area, I definitely recommend it!

Google
Nice cozy neighbourhood restaurant, friendly staff, tasty food and good value for money. Had only a light lunch, but this as enough to make me want to go there for a bigger meal at some point.

This spot in Marylebone seems to be one that’s filled with people who live within 5 minutes walking distance because unless you knew it was there, you’d never stumble upon it. This doesn’t stop it from being jam packed and although this makes it quite difficult to have a conversation, the food more than makes up for it. The som tum was fiery and sweet and sour all at the same time with fresh crunchy papaya. The masaman curry was a little sweet and my personal preference would be for some more chilli but that’s my opinion. The Pad Thai was a god portion size and I liked that it wasn’t overly sweet which unfortunately seems to be the case in many places. Unfortunately the service was very lacklustre. In the middle of taking our order our waiter started walking away. I appreciate you’re busy but when you’re taking an order, you wait till the person giving the order is done. Not once were we asked if our meal was okay, if we wanted to order anymore drinks and it took about 7/8 minutes to see someone to ask for the bill.

Google
A lovely meal with my Dad and Siblings to celebrate his birthday. Attentive staff, freshly prepared food. Delicious and fragrant Thai cuisine.

Yelp
So I have been coming to this restaurant for at least 10 years now and never reviewed. This last Sunday I came with 3 of my girlfriends when we were working in London and was very happy they were not busy as we we're seated immediately and the service was exceptional. We had 4 different appetizers and wine and 4 entrees all of which were excellent. glass noodles with shrimp was a favorite as well as the spring roll appetizer.

Yelp
Taste: I had the WORST tom yum soup here in my life Portion: The portion is quite small too (I'm only 42kg who usually considered by my friend that I eat too little). Service: Not rude but not good Environment: it's quite clean so its the only good thing about this restaurant when compared to other attributes (one extra star to this)

Yelp
Great Ambience of a small local place - low key and friendly with great service and the food smelled so good as we entered the restaurant we couldn't wait to try it. A bit spicy but we liked the kick. Ordered the appetizer sampler - I'd stick to the Satay next time as that was the best one. The green curry was awesome as was the Pad Si Ew and would recommend both dishes. Glad we could find and visit this this place as our Hotel was close by.

Yelp
This is pretty nice. I don't particularly like Thai food but this restaurant's atmosphere was relaxing so I tried a few things and it was great! Definitely recommend but remember to get food to share- it's better that way!

Yelp
I went there with my wife last week while in vacation. I was there back in November 2019. The food is good and had a lot of flavor. I very much enjoyed the basil stir fry with chicken. I would definitely recommend that! My wife enjoyed the dumplings. The service was good and the staff pleasant. There are two downsides. The restaurant is small and very loud. The other is the portion sizes are a little small. I found that I needed an appetizer in order to be full. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are a fan of Thai food.

Yelp
Good place in London for thai food. Cheap prices also. The service was very kind. We had the pad thai and the red curry with coconut steamed rice. Food was good. Not a trendy/fancy restaurant, no need to dress up. The perfect weekday restaurant to go with family and/or friends.

Yelp
Very good food. Be sure and have a reservation. If you go at 5 or 6pm it may look empty but they often won't be able to see you if they are fully booked starting at 7pm. The food was very good though, had the pad see ew. Good flavor and portion.

Steve L.

Yelp
Great food and great service. Very attentive staff even on a busy night. Came in on a Wednesday night without a reservation and they were able to seat us immediately. Would definitely recommend.

Michelle W.

Yelp
I enjoyed a fresh, delicious meal here while recovering from jet lag. The staff was kind and accommodating when I requested broccoli rather than tofu. Although I didn't have a reservation, they fit me in letting me know when they would need the table so I could eat there instead of ordering takeout which I appreciated.

Yelp
Listen, lunch around Baker Street can get a bit dicey. Long ques. Fast food. Crowded seats, you name it -- it's pretty stressful and not terribly enjoyable. So when I find a spot that's a bit tucked away, offers comfortable table service, isn't jam packed to the gills AND has a lunch special!? Well, I'm pretty happy. Set lunch: starter (or soup) + main for £10.95. Or, you can do appetizer + soup + main for just a few quid more. The best part of this is that it flies out of the kitchen. Easy in and out in an hour for lunch breakers! My selections were the Tom Kha mushroom soup + Cashew Chicken stir-fry. Both were quite good and I was impressed with the portion size for the main given it was a lunch deal. Very filling. the Tom Kha was good, though I'd likely opt to add in chicken or something a bit more substantial, a bunch of bobbing mushrooms isn't terribly appealing or filling as it turns out. Though I do love that coconut! Service was just fine. No complaints. Quick and efficient. Will most definitely be back when craving some Thai and needing a respite from the office drones and chains of Baker Street.

Yelp
Been here a few times during the week for 'working/social' lunches. Initially caught by the name as I strolled passed one morning, decided to venture in for lunch being a lover or Thai food. Small restaurant but cosy. They have a full menu as well as a set menu with starter and main option for a fixed price. Decent variety on the set menu including good ole Pad Thai and Green curry, etc. As a fan of Pad Thai (who isn't) this was very tasty. I've also forced myself to order something different on the other occasions I've been and the other meals have also been very tasty and have not felt cheated by not getting my fav Pad Thai. Service is generally prompt and the food tasty with good portion sizes. They certainly do not cut back just because it is a set menu. Can get busy so if you want a guaranteed table then wise to book in advance. I believe they also do take out, great option when they are too busy to accommodate you.

Yelp
Simply had the Sua Rong Hai, the signature steak dish with plain white rice. Ordered it medium and It was to cooked to perfection, just the right amount of pink. Flavours were subtle and unique with just the right amount of chillie added. Never had a Thai dish like this before. Wish I had the appetite to try out a couple more dishes. Service was excellent, quiet atmosphere, priced right. Highly recommended. Will be back on my next trip to London.

Yelp
Nice, tasty. Being used to the aussie cost of thai (7 bucks a meal YES YOU HEARD ME RIGHT) I had to adjust to the local pricing - but hey I also pay rent here so twenty quid is no big deal! Quality is great, freshness and right-in-between-raw-and-steamed, spot on. Lunchtime is suity though so avoid unless you're one of THEM.
google avatar

Stacey B.

Yelp
Very tasty food (try the spicy noodles!) and attentive service. We also had spring rolls to start which were great. I love the fact that it's so close to Baker Street station yet feels completely away from the hustle and bustle. We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and service! Small and quiet restaurant, location is just far enough from the tourist crowd but still easy to find. Food was delicious. Drinks were served quickly. Prices were reasonable. Definitely check them out!

Yelp
Love this place....popped in for a quick bite. Service was outstanding. Shared green curry with steamed rice, and Jasmin tea... delicious and very reasonably priced... highly recommend.

Yelp
Yet another lunch spot near work. The food is good and cheap. It's not the best Thai food I've ever tasted, but they the standard dishes are quite tasty--curries and stir fries are usually a good option. Anything slightly off-piste can be somewhat hit or miss. The staff are just okay. They can be quite short, even rude at times. And there is one thing I find particularly strange. Table setting include very nice wine glasses. However, when you order wine, they take away the nice glassware and provide you with thick rimmed, stout, pub-like wine glasses. We usually request to keep the nice glassware and they always let us do this, but I do feel that we get the evil eye for asking. The restaurant has recently been redesigned--loads of clean lines and pseudo-modern furniture which isn't that comfortable. But I guess when you're out for lunch from work, you don't want to get overly comfortable; you may never make it back.

Yelp
Good place with some nice food - unfortunately service was slow and inattentive but it's worth the wait for the food and it's a great place to take friends for a quiet dinner.

Yelp
We were staying directly across the street from this place while our permanent housing was being set up. Decided to try and happy we did! As some posters mentioned the service is not the fastest but, the food is delicious. Our waitress was nice and helpful in making suggestions and accommodations. We didn't venture too far into the menu, pad thai, the steak which my son loved, fried rice was good, tom yum soup was delicious, the keang duck was delicious. The ambiance is casual and quaint. Not very noisy, you can have a nice conversation with your dinner partner and not have a problem hearing. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Let it be known - i ONLY come here for the food ( it is the only local Thai restaurant) - as the staff here are SO RUDE! they really have no clue how to serve or show manners, a great shame as otherwise a nicely done place and not expensive. They have recently expanded, though some tables together for 2 still feel like you are dining with strangers with your every word being heard. Wine list & desserts now greatly improved. Less of the rude & less of the hurry please.... PS - Where have the candles vanished to??
google avatar

Jess T.

Yelp
2 stars because the mains were ok. The starters were absolutely terrible. We ordered the starters plate to share for two and I struggled to try them all because they were so fatty and overcooked. The mains were ok, not too bad not too good. I got really upset though when the bill came. They added a beer to it which we did not drink or order. Simply adding items to the bill is one of the worst things that can happen to you as a restaurant but there was no recognition of this by the Monkey & Me staff. They made me feel bad for pointing out the fact that they made a pretty big mistake. Least you can do is say sorry and make sure your guests want to come back. They've lost my trust and I'll not come back here.
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
The ambiance and decor was better than the food. It's close To Governors square after work dinner or convenient lunch. Great U.K. service.
google avatar

Montana M.

Yelp
I needed a large take away order for a working lunch meeting and they fulfilled my every request including opening early to make sure I could get it all back in time. Everyone enjoyed their meal; I had a particularly delicious Thai green chicken curry with sticky rice and I must say they don't hold back on flavour and spices. Will be heading back for their lunch special.
google avatar

Joshua J.

Yelp
Thai food can be so good, yet is usually so bad. Thailand, you eat on a stool by the roadside eating some weird skewers and a bowl of steaming noodle soup and its the thing you talk about 10 years later. Thai food here, sadly, doesn't typically warrant a second thought, let alone years down the line. Monkey & Me won't likely win restaurant of the year at the Consumer Choice Awards like Thai Square (side note: how much did Thai Square have to pay to receive such a prestigious designation?), nor will they get a line up of Thai people to eat food like Mæ used to make, but for like £9 for 5 cute little spring rolls and a huge pad thai which is pretty savoury and delicious, I'd say why not.
google avatar

Rosie A.

Yelp
A very good option for a working lunch in the Baker St/ Marylebone area, they have a set menu which I think (if my memory serves me right) is about 10.95 for 2 courses. Lovely starters - prawn toast a personal fave. Like 90% of all people, I had the pad thai for mains (which I've had a few times here before) and it was lovely. Big portion though, couldn't finish it. It's quite busy on Thursday and Friday lunchtimes, so call ahead and book if you can. Tip - do not get the "thai iced tea". You'll be thinking, " yay, I'm getting a lovely clear teabag stewed, icey refreshing drink." What you'll actually get is a revolting orangutan orange sweet milky monstrosity of doom. Avoid at all costs. Sans the aforementioned drink, you'll be safe as houses, because Monkey & Me is really pretty darn good overall.
google avatar

Andy B.

Yelp
Nice, well executed duck curry served with a smile ;) The duck was tender and well cooked. I feel like I could make this a regular haunt if I lived in the area.
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
I really wish Yelp had a 3.5 star rating. Because that's what Monkey and Me is... really, a 3.5 * place. The food was good, decent Thai, not flippin fantastic, but fairly functional if you're looking for Thai fair. The decor is actually really sleek, it looks really expensive from the outside and the menus are WELL designed. Someone really went to taking great care on making sure this place is cosy. The food was a little slow in leaving the kitchen and lukewarm by the time it hit the table. Mine was a little more greasy than I'd expect from a place decorated this nicely. Granted, I paid £6.95 for the Pad Kee Mao, for a place that looked like it'd charge me £9.95 for it. Anyway, as another reviewer described, it's nothing to write home about nor to complain about. Just a little mismatch from expectations from the decor, the price and the quality of food. Would I come back? Probably, if I was in the area (which I don't actually live very far), but there are plenty of 3.5* Thai places inbetween where I live and Marylebone.
google avatar

Trang H.

Yelp
It was a hard choice between pad kee mau with duck (my usual favourite) or the deliciously described deep-fried sea bass with spicy thai dressing. I went the deep-fried sea bass with spicy thai dressing and was a happier woman for it. The starter was a simple but tasty grilled squid. The dipping sauce was the star of the dish with hints of lemon, garlic, finely chopped chilli, and some other magic. My friend had penang curry with duck which tasted pretty good but not spectacular. I think the sea-bass dishes are the distinguishing dishes at Monkey & Me. A couple of other tables ordered sea-bass dishes (steamed and fried). The restaurant is on the contemporary-modern side of decor; good for enjoying a nice dinner but not comfortable enough to stick around too long after dessert. The servers were friendly and nice. Verdict: Not a place to trek across town for but if you're in the area, it's a good Thai restaurant. Since I live down the street, I asked for a take-out menu and a business card. I'm considering becoming a regular.

Yelp
3.5 stars (.5 extra for service) The staff here are so nice and so accommodating, but the food doesn't live up. On a Saturday around 8 pm it was packed, so I'd recommend making reservations. There wasn't a queue, but all tables were reserved. Each person we came into contact was very nice and patient with any questions or customizations. We ended up ordering the panang curry with veggies and the stir fry thai basil with veggies. The thai basil stir fry was ordered extra spicy. Unfortunately, that dish was a miss - so bland, no flavor. It tasted just like regular brown sauce. When we informed the waitress, she was very willing to make a different dish. We ended up getting the chili stir fry, which was definitely better, but still not amazingly flavorful. Also, it wasn't made extra spicy as requested, but we didn't really want to have them remake it, so we just got chili powder on the side. The mixed veggies were a good variety - bell peppers, baby corn, broccoli, bamboo, onion, carrot, string beans, mushrooms, zucchini. They were so nice about everything and kept checking in to make sure the experience was good, so that's a huge plus. But the taste just wasn't there. I wish the food was more flavorful. It's possible if I were in the area I would try it again only for the service and just hope that the food was better, but otherwise, it's not the best.
google avatar

Daniele R.

Yelp
Good Thai food at a pretty cheap price! I've been here many times and I've always loved their food. My favorite is the red curry with mixed meat, but also the green curry is pretty tasty. They're only slightly spicy, even if on the menu it's written that they are stronger, so you can have them even if you don't like too spicy food. Their Pad Thai is also very good if you're not into curries. However I didn't find any particularly inviting starter. The service is usually pretty fast and friendly. I'd suggest to book a table for dinner since they're always pretty full, but if you're max 4 people you can usually find a free table even without reservation.
google avatar

Nina N.

Yelp
Solid thai food. Small, but decent and appropriately-priced wine list. Fantastic service and cute decor. Not too noisy so you can count on having good conversation with your meal. Curries here are nothing mind-blowing but immensely satisfying. I especially enjoyed the masaman curry with prawn which had the perfect amount of spice and coconut creaminess. I'll also vouch for the green curry. Just make sure to really communicate if you want a dish spicy. The octopus was a little chewy. but not inedible. Bottom line, if you're on a budget but want to act like you're not, come on over here before a night out.
google avatar

Sarah O.

Yelp
Ordered take-out from this place over the weekend. It came relatively fast (within a half hour) and was decent enough. My Pad See Eiw just didn't ... taste right. I don't know what it was, but it didn't make me jump up and scream 'Yes! I've just eaten one of my favourite dishes in the world!' more like 'Eh...well, I just had my favourite dish done in a very mediocre way.' Also tried a Thai Fish cake that had the texture of a piece of egg from McDonalds. You know, squishy egg-but-notreally-egg texture on your Egg McMuffin. Think that. But it's supposed to be fish. Mmmm....Right. My friends enjoyed their Pad Thai and another spicy noodle dish but I just wasn't all that impressed. Maybe in a pinch, maybe actually dining in but not a go-to take out place.
google avatar

Paula S.

Yelp
SO MUCH GOOD! My husband and I went in to this place solely because of the name. Thankfully, the food was just as good as the name! Tasty green curry for me, and chili shrimp starter and spicy squid for my husband. Service was a bit slow but the place was packed on a Saturday night.
google avatar

Travis L.

Yelp
Best Thai restaurant in London - hands down. Everything I've eaten here has been wonderfully prepared and thoughtfully served. The staff is accommodating and friendly without being too much so. Do yourself a favor and begin with the Monkey starter and take it from there... tom kha, red curry, salads, everything is outstanding.
google avatar

Ada C.

Yelp
We had takeaway and aside from the fact it took donkeys years to arrive (almost 1.5 hours!!), the food was pretty tasty. I had the spicy rice noodles with tofu and veg which did the trick. I also ordered veggie spring rolls which were crispy, a surprise given that they had to travel.
google avatar

Emir J.

Yelp
We tried two different types of curries and loved it. Also the appetizer to share was quite good enabling us to sample many different tastes. If only they also had the pineapple rice that eat in other Thai spots and I have come to love!

Eco A.

Yelp
Dinner Went there with my friend. The restaurant decoration did not make me feel that I was in Thai restaurant which was not usual but it was new to me. The atmosphere was a bit chic and classy. The starter was reasonably enjoyable as they had a good plate of Try Me Plate. This earned 4 stars - the taste, the volume and the price were really good. There were different variation of rice, which was great. I went coconut rice with green curry. This earned 4 stars too. Actual bits of coconut was contained in rice. Thai curry was relatively creamy and mild. They did not use too much nampula- which tells me that was seasoned carefully = no cheating. However I had to wait ages to get the bill and pay. It was excessive. Thus 3 stars. I think it's fair.
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
Pretty impressive Thai with some dishes that were exceptional. A friendly restaurant at the back of Baker Street which was very welcoming and although had dome difficulty with opening others champagne did pretty well with the service. There were a couple of dishes that set the taste buds alight - coconut rice which I would order every wkend if I could and the signature duck dish which I unfortunately didn't have. My fried see food unfortunately was served cold, but I didn't complain as everyone else was enjoying themselves.
google avatar

Jim G.

Yelp
They have solid Thai Iced Tea and the ambiance is also very nice. I would recommend this place for a quiet Friday night dinner out.
google avatar

Cécile T.

Yelp
Very good place! I went there for dinner yesterday night. The restaurant looks nice and feels quite cosy, very good if you actually intend to speak to the person you're dining with (unlike some restaurants I might review later), and the service is attentive but not too much. We had some steamed pork and prawn dumplings (Kanom Jeeb, which are very similar to Siu Mai) as an appetiser with a very good sauce. Then my friend had a tofu curry with some rice and I chose an amazing soup. Fortunately this is a written review so you won't have to suffer through my horrible pronunciation of Guay Tiew Neua, which is the name of said beef noodle soup. Slightly spicy, very flavourful, LOTS of meat, maybe not enough greens. Good broth (I love a good broth!), okay noodles. Cost us about £15 each with non alcoholic drinks (Tea and a big bottle of sparkling water - look at us being healthy!). Most dishes are between £8 and £11. Sides around £3.
google avatar

Kirsty J.

Yelp
Ate here quite late after a work event with my team. Not sure whether I was having an off day or they were. Even though the rest of my party enjoyed it and we did receive good service I felt it was pretty average. We shared some starters and unfortunately the chicken satay was pink and not cooked through - completely put me off my chicken cashew nut stir-fry to be honest. The restaurant is lovely though - maybe on another day I would have experienced what most other yelpers have reviewed it to be.
google avatar

Brandi S.

Yelp
The food was really good but the service was very slow and unattentive. Great prices.
google avatar

Menaal M.

Yelp
Amazing Thai food! The squid and curries are great. It's spicy too, which is how it should be! The service could do with some improvement though.
google avatar

Joe K.

Yelp
Left out the curry from my delivery order. When I called to tell them, they claimed I had received it. I'll never order from them again! Please don't support such an establishment.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Good Thai food at a great price. The menu is quite large, with many attractive choices. I settled on a vegetable stir-fry with chili paste. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be, but it was very good nonetheless. The atmosphere was pretty good, but a bit loud. The service was friendly, but a bit slow. Overall, it was a very good experience, and I'll be coming back.
google avatar

Izzy D.

Yelp
Really good Thai place- very low key but the food is amazing, inexpensive and flavourful! Recommend the ribs and the red curry
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Accidentaly found this place when looking for dinner around Baker Street; very pleaseantly suprised by very good Thai food for the price. The steam seabass in particular was excellent!
google avatar

Kate H.

Yelp
The only good thing I've tried here is the green curry. The noodles are very mediocre, and most everything lacks in seasoning. I only order takeaway, and that's only because it's just around the corner from my flat. Busaba is just a few minutes walk south. It's much better; go there instead.
google avatar

Dan F.

Yelp
I've been to Monkey & Me twice and was thoroughly impressed both times. Great service and atmosphere. Each of us has enjoyed everything we ordered. I don't know that anything we had would be considered "cutting edge", but all of it has been prepared and seasoned very well. Prices and value are quite reasonable. We will be regulars!
