17 Best Bars in Berlin

"Located on the 10th floor of the Monkey Hotel in Charlottenburg, the Zoologischer-Garten–adjacent Monkey Bar serves up excellent G&Ts as well as panoramic views of the Monkey House in the zoo below. Decor inside takes a cue from the zoo, too: There’s art involving gorillas and giraffes, and stepped seating layered in brightly woven cushions that invites guests to relax and enjoy the view. Warm golden light bulbs illuminate the space and planters give it a taste of the jungle. Come during the day for the best views—and to avoid long lines at the bar." - Krystin Arneson

Great views! The place overall is pleasant but the music is so loud it takes away from the lounge aspect. The servers and very energetic which makes it a little hectic. Drinks are nice! And also pricey, average 15€. The views are beautiful and really make up for it.

Google
The view from Monkey Bar is amazing. The place has a great vibe and looks really cool. I loved the atmosphere! But the cocktails are pretty expensive, and you definitely need a reservation. If not, you’ll probably have to wait in line for about an hour. Still, once you’re inside, it’s a really nice experience.

One of the best rooftop bars I have visited. It has an amazing view over Tiergarten and city landmarks. Music is good, variety of cocktails are great. I recommend Missionary’s Downfall for a good sweet cocktail. It gets really busy through the night so be there before 20:00 to get a seat with a nice view.

Google
Great drinks. Great view. Great atmosphere. Great music. Vibes. The jungle 25 was delicious. Perfectly tart and velvety with mild rum funk.

Google
The best thing about this bar is its high altitude and view over the apes section of the Berlin zoo. Cocktails were just ok, staff was friendly but service on weekend evenings was super slow, 2 people serving the tables and 1 bartender are just way too few people for the capacity of around 150 guests. Prices are upmarket.

Jelena Terzic

Google
They offer a wide variety of cocktails, and the view from the bar was outstanding. You can overlook the Zoologischer Garten — it was incredible. One of the best rooftop bars I’ve been to. For me, this is a perfect spot, maybe even one of the top five bars in Berlin. Highly recommended. Average price of one cocktail is 15e.

Google
We had a lovely dinner (snacks based but made us happy and full )and really cool cocktails. Service was super friendly and fast. And the highlight - music ✨

Suhas Thakral

Google
This is a nice bar with a good rooftop overlooking the monkey exhibit in the zoo. Good place to get a few drinks but a bit pricey . The cocktails are nice but not too gourmet for the price

Yelp
Came here for a drink and small bites with my cousin. Nigel was our server and he was awesome. Monkey Bar is a rooftop bar with views of the Berlin zoo. I was able to see an orangutan. We bought a round of cocktails and had the sweet potato fries and Korean chicken bites. Thought it was a cool bar to check out while in Berlin!

Yelp
Monkey Bar offers a lively experience with stunning panoramic views of the city and the Berlin Zoo (right over the monkey exhibit). Their cocktails are expertly crafted and have a wide range of food options as well. Whether you are seated indoors or out on the terrace, the bar provides a chic spot to unwind and enjoy the Berlin skyline.
google avatar

Yelp
Trendy bar at top of 25hrs hotel. Relatively small place extending to a rooftop terrace with great drinks, great music and before darkness kicks in (eg happy hour) great views onto the zoo!!
google avatar

Yelp
Monkey Bar offers a unique experience with a fantastic view of the Berlin skyline, which is one of its standout features. The ambiance is great, with a blend of artistic inspiration and a cozy atmosphere, enhanced by the photographs on the walls and the music that complements the vibe. While the balcony provides a great vantage point, it does feel a bit cramped, which can be a drawback if you're looking for a more spacious area to enjoy the view. The drinks are decent, though nothing extraordinary, but overall, it's a solid bar and definitely worth a visit for its ambiance and artistic charm.
google avatar

Yelp
Giving this place max for location/ ambiance alone. Truly a one-of-kind experience for me. Not only is it above the city with a great 270° view, we could also see the zoo from our seat. Make sure you ask when you walk in. The bar has a cool vibe in general. I'm a big fan sof espresso martinis and their espresso banana martini met the mark. I ordered a second. Waiter was very friendly, and accommodating as well. Must access lift at ground level to reach the bar.

Yelp
The service is bad. Like actively bad. They are so understaffed there and the staff they do have are so overworked and overwhelmed you'll be waiting forever for your drinks. The food is good (the dip trio is excellent) but it also takes forever because it comes from the restaurant attached. The views are good of the city.
google avatar

Menghan F.

Yelp
My favorite place for a drink with a view in Berlin! I love sitting on the stairs during a cloudy day, sipping a rosé, watching animal antics in the zoo below. Pick up a drink at the bar before sitting, otherwise you'll notice the lackluster service.

Zeba A.

Yelp
don't get the hype. View: average Drinks: average Service: poor Staff: horrendous I had to walk past a server, it was a narrow passage so I said 'excuse me' twice before I did, quite loud to ensure he doesn't turn back. This guy still did and instead of being polite, screamed at my face 'what the F* is wrong with you' caught me by surprise but whatever it was, I felt screaming and F word a bit too excessive Rough night perhaps but bro an advice, if you can't handle the pressure, don't work in this industry. I will get over it and not visit your not so worthy overrated bar again but you'll ruin many experiences. Food: 1 | Service: 1 |

Yelp
This is one of my favorite rooftop bars that I was able to visit while on short vacation in Berlin. I liked the hype. We waited downstairs for about 15 to 20 minutes before we were able to access the rooftop. We were told to order at the bar only, which was fine and worked out well. The indoor and outdoor seating is 1st come 1st serve. We went outside 1st and then sat inside near the DJ ( playing house music). The interior is eclectic and colorful. I lived for the vintage photography. The vibe and energy is warm and there is unique seating. The drinks were perfect and the view was nice because it ran halfway around the building. There is a restaurant right across the hallway that also looked interesting and fun, but we opted for a traditional German dinner that night . On the day that we went, the weather was great so it was definitely crowded. This is a must check out if visiting Berlin.

Yelp
Why would you want to prepay 28€ for two drinks and be treated like shit. Along the lines of "Be happy you are served at all", no smiles, no basic courtesy, just primordial attitude commensurate with the bar's name?? Never again, now we understand why it is called the Monkey Bar.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
One of the best rooftop bars you can go to, because of the view. You usually can get in there, seating with a view is often possible, and the service isn't bad at all, in a town not famed for its service. The rest of it you can forget - the staples are mediocre, the originals are abominable, and the ones "borrowed" from other bars (see attached image) are botched. In every case, the flavor was out of balance: a whiskey sour with amaretto tasted indistinguishable from a shot of amaretto. A nice exception was the buttermilk margarita, which would have benefitted from the inclusion of even a little bit of lime, but it shockingly worked. Still, the view. Did I mention the view?
google avatar

Blake T.

Yelp
The views and atmosphere are hard to beat. However, the staff's willingness/need to serve you is another thing. I suggest going to the bar yourself and not waiting on a waitress. You wait in line to get in but all in all I would say it's worth the good drink and vibe!

Yelp
I loved Monkey Bar, even though I'm only giving it a 3 star review. The 3 star reviews comes from the fact that yes, it is touristy. It's attached to some hotel, and it's in a pretty boring area of Berlin -- touristy, typical American shopping, none of that cool/artsy/Berlin vibe. The hotel it is in looks really cool, even though I found the area kind of 'meh', I'd stay at the hotel next time I'm in Berlin. The service situation also sucks. Boyfriend and I rode lime bikes from where we were staying through the Tiergarten to get to this place. You enter in this artsy kind of lobby area with a girl directing you to go to the bar or, the 25hours hotel it was in. We hopped in the elevator and rode up to the 10th floor the bar is on. The elevator doors open to a hallway with the bar towards the end. I loved the whole pretentious, neon, artsy, NYC vibe it has going on. Yes, it is jungle themed, but in an upscale manner. I enjoyed the menu filled with drinks with names like "King Kong", "Bananarama", "Rafiki", etc. We found ourselves seats at the very crowded bar (this was about 4:30pm on a Saturday) and each decided on a tequila based drink which were really, really good. I don't drink rum (try to stay away from too much sugar), but if I did, I would have had one of their rum based drinks. It took, however, at least 20 minutes to get our drinks (first go around). People (Americans, of course) were literally fighting to get their drinks first! Our second round of drinks took equally as long and don't even bother ordering food... we almost left by the time our french fries came out. They play good music, lights are dim, and when it's daylight, there's supposed to be an incredible view. We ventured outside when we were ready to leave on the rooftop, which was decorated to the theme really well, but we didn't stay outside long because it was quite chill being the beginning of November. I'd come back during Spring/Summer. They did have fire lamps though. So, all in all: PROS - great selection of fun, craft cocktails - love the vibe and tropical theme - great view - outdoor rooftop CONS - boring area of town - touristy - extremely busy - slow service

Yelp
Love that bar!! The interior design, the food and drinks. And the atmosphere..especially in the evenings.
google avatar

Johnny Z.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails and a chill place to kick back with a drink. Lots of different types of seating indoors and a beautiful view outside. There are several rows of seating that overlooks the Berlin zoo (maybe the monkey enclosures?). It can get a bit chilly outside at night so some blankets are provided to keep you warm- no problem with that indoors of course. It can be very crowded here, especially in the evenings so service can be a bit slow. You can't go wrong with the drinks though! Definitely pricier than most establishments in Berlin, but you can still get a beer for a decent price of about €5.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Very nice view from this bar. Good price and variety of drinks. Staff was okay friendly. Would recommand it for one time to go.

David S.

Yelp
The ONLY thing this place "Sort of" has going for it, is the view. Touristy trap, Crazy Overpriced Joke; $$$! If you're exceptionally patient, you may actually be "served" a drink. Otherwise, prepare to stand in line at the bar and wait Forever. Consider yourself Lucky provided you actually get a drink; pathetic service. Unless you have nothing but time, patience, & money $..., Look elsewhere !

Yelp
Having coffee overlooking the zoo? Go to the Monkey Bar! A nice place on the 10th floor of the Bikini Building, next to the zoo. Good coffee and good vibes. $$
google avatar

Steve N.

Yelp
I find 1-star reviews peculiar. Friends, Yelpers. Lend me your ears. A 1-star review should be reserved for "I slipped in vomit" or "got in a fight with the bartender and lost" incidents. Queue or no queue, Monkey Bar provides a fine view and satisfactory cocktails. Service tends to be slow, yes, but one can avoid this by choosing their arrival time wisely. Place gets crowded, good seats can be hard to find otherwise. A solid 3.5 star experience.
google avatar

Lauriane B.

Yelp
You will have to wait to go up to the Monkey Bar but it's worth the waiting. You will be able to enjoy the view on Tiergarten, in a nice atmosphere. The drinks are a little bit expensive but the beers are affordable.
google avatar

Abbie O.

Yelp
The Monkey Bar is a great lounge with a great view of the zoo and downtown. We stopped here for drinks after a day of hitting the Christmas markets, and it was exactly what we needed.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
....this place is done...tourist trap...drinks poor quality...prices 4 them higher as @victoria bar (where you get probably the best drinks in berlin) ... and even if you got a nice view you just need 2 come here if you want 2 work and walk through your tourist guide...i was born in berlin and i tell you there a bars and places even with a view here, where you get good drinks plus a view without kids from around the world throwing up in plastic bags (no joke just happened 5 min ago)....dont know what else 2 say...its a shame 4 the city... 2 stars just 4 the view...nothing else
google avatar

Alicia C.

Yelp
Fun vibe that makes you feel like you're transported to somewhere special. Loved the rooftop with great views and the cocktails are tropical and inventive. Loved our visit and only wish we stayed here longer.
google avatar

Britten A.

Yelp
A really cool, but a little pretentious, cocktail bar overlooking the zoo. The line was about 40 mins long when we arrived, but worth the wait. They played great music and the cocktails and wine were very good. We'll be back, a little earlier this time, in order to watch the sunset over the zoo!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was recommended by a friend/colleague and I'm guessing they had never been here when it is busy. This is, perhaps, the most inefficient bar I have ever been to. They have some ridiculous ticket system for every drink and only a couple making drinks on a busy, sunny Saturday afternoon. Looking at other reviews (now!) it's clear this place does not care about efficiency or customer service. It should never. Ever. Take 30+ minutes for people to get a drink. They are able to exist because of the amazing view and the cool design/feel inside and that is it. But here's my advice if there's a line to go up in the elevator: 1. Do not go; they will not be friendly or accommodating and it is not worth waiting to only have to wait even longer to get a drink. 2. If you want to sit outside when you're upstairs, bring your own beverages! They pay No. Attention. to the guests outside, letting bottles and glasses collect on tables and refusing to bring anything from the bar outside. My advice to the management: at busy times open up an express lane for people to get the easy drinks and/or simplify your drink menu options. I have to say, the over experience, even with a Phenomenal view of the Tiergarten and zoo, is just really poor all around.
google avatar

Kifah A.

Yelp
The view over Berlin is amazing. Even in the rest rooms, you have a panorama view over the City The cocktails are great, and the music , ambients and lights are perfect.... It can get crowded on weekend days, so make sure you make a reservation. The prices are not completely crazy but a bit over the area average, so make sure you have a healthy wallet ;) In my opinion the coolest bar in the western part of the City. A pleasure to visit at day or night time.

Yelp
Looking for a place that is not stuck in the 1990s? With clean air, where plastic works for food and drink? Monkey Bar comes to the rescue. It offers a very different, perhaps slightly more upmarket experience, that comes close to contemporary standards abroad. Drinks are very nice, if a bit expensive, expect a two figure price. At seat service is available, if a bit slow and you might not get the most chattiest staff. The bar area itself is smoke-free and smokers will have to attend the outside terrace which is strictly self-service. The food selection isn't very huge but good. The menu is German/International influenced by Middle Eastern culinary traditions and a subset of neighbouring restaurant Neni's menu. I had the €18 pulled beef burger and sweet potato fries very recently. Both were, in some way, "easy to eat" and smooth. The burger was very tasty and well-balanced on the spice side with a blend of cilantro, lemon, and other tastes. Credit cards and contactless payments are accepted. (Be aware of the DCC tourist trap though that is so common in other countries already - the future does not only bring niceties with it. If you use a foreign currency card here and in many other places, always insist on having the transaction done in local currency, which is EUR, and don't accept any conversion to your home currency which would take place at a very bad exchange rate set by the merchant's acquiring bank.) The long queue speaks for itself. Be early if you want to enjoy an after work drink without the place reeking of a crowd. You may have to wait for quite a while after 7pm on school nights. The clientele is quite mixed and slightly touristy. Then again I visited this bar to spend time with friends, I have yet to use it as an, erm, recruitment playground.

Yelp
It's rare to find an amazing rooftop bar in Berlin with excellent views, decent drink prices and interior decor, but only to be let down by the most atrocious customer service in the city (even by German standards). There is absolutely no reason why it should take 15-25 minutes to wait in line for an elevator up to an half-empty bar and deal with the most ignorant bouncer and servers. It makes even less sense to wait the same amount of time for a glass of beer that realistically takes less than 10 seconds to pour or hand over in a bottle. I'm not sure exactly how they prioritize the system, but it's clear they need an overhaul in their processes. I've been coming to Monkey Bar for at least a dozen times since I've moved to Berlin two years ago and I only tolerated their terrible service because of their outside terrace and the impressive views of Tiergarden and Kurfürstendamm from the indoor section. However, today will be the last time i am visiting this place. It is simply inexcusable to have a waitress slam your change on your table and give you the worst attitude simply because a friend wanted to pay by credit/debit card and can't meet the minimum demanded. I covered for him and the other friends at the table, but apparently this misunderstanding was enough for a server to rage at customers. I explained this to one of the staff member at the bar and she just said "talk to the manager" who is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND, and "thank you for your feedback". Well, you're very welcome.
google avatar

Ahmet O.

Yelp
Been this place a lot last year and recently it's quite upsetting how the service is very slow when i mean slow don't think an average berlin slow waiting for a round of drinks should never take more than 20minutes ever i was trying to convince everyone to stay for the view but this horrible service timing for stupid cocktails is so wrong lol.
google avatar

Tina N.

Yelp
The line was not too long and it had exceptionally beautiful views. As expected, the drinks are pretty expensive but sadly the service was slow and the drinks weren't good either.
google avatar

Bailor T.

Yelp
It had great vibes but it could not make up for the rude service staff! We waited in line to get in and the view of the zoo was pretty nice! Set down for 2 hours and the guy would not help us with our drink orders after I made several attempts to get his attention!
google avatar

Brittany S.

Yelp
Tucked up high on top of the Bikini Hotel, this place has an amazing view of Berlin, not to mention the zoo! Now, that's pretty much the only good attribute about the place. The drinks are mediocre and ridiculously overpriced, the service is deplorable (I literally waited over 35 minutes for my drink!), it's always way too crowded and you're left practically sitting on top of people or looking for a table. Great place for a view but not much more.
google avatar

Carlis L.

Yelp
It's a nice bar with a pretty view. Drinks are slow and service is just okay. Drinks, if made properly can be good.
google avatar

Gerard B.

Yelp
I did not like the drink, and the prices were too high. Although the view is really beautiful. BUT this is the only plus among a bunch of minuses
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
Quite possibly the worst service I've ever had at any restaurant or bar! It takes 10 minutes just to place an order at the bar and there's only two people in front of me. 10 mintues later I get my beer but I'm still waiting on a drink (Moscow Mule Slushy) for my girlfriend. 5 minutes later I get told that the slushy isn't ready and they ask me if I want something else. Considering I've already waited 25 minutes to get told that my drink isn't ready...NO I do NOT want another drink. In fact I never want another drink here. Bye Felicia. Oh and the drinks are already on the pricey side. Clearly the additional price does not pay for better service. Smh.
google avatar

Serra P.

Yelp
I said before that I will go to 25 hours hotel and to their bars everywhere I go before... I did it in Berlin as well! Perfect decoration & concept. This time you enter a jungle... From the entrance to its restaurant NENNI to its bar monkey. Beautiful coctails, beautiful decoration, beautiful music, cool people around.... Watching the Kudam and beautiful sight seeing... A must see in Berlin
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
The Monkey Bar is a very popular new bar that sits atop the recently opened 25 Hours hotel near the Zoo station (and across from the Memorial Church and Europa Center). The bar offers a list of good craft cocktails and has an excellent view over the Tiergarten (there is a small outside seating area). If you stay at the hotel, you're entry is guaranteed - you just take the hotel elevator to the top floor. If you're not a guest, there is 'face control' at the ground entrance to the hotel and bar. Kind of weird. If they let you in, there is a separate elevator to the top floor Monkey Bar and to the restaurant. The staff is aloof and not very friendly. But the view and drinks make up for it.
google avatar

Vitalii P.

Yelp
It is a really nice place but be sure they will make you wait for your drink for at least 40 minutes, and when you ask for your money back, they will just give you money and forget about you the next second. This really is a terrible service. But you will probably want to go there anyways because of the view. Just don't expect much and don't tip waiters before you get your order.

Seni W.

Yelp
A spontaneous decision to have a quick drink after work turned out to be quite a shocker. A wait of almost 20 min, rude behaviour by staff and lastly received the wrong cocktail. To wait another 20 min was out of the questions. So gruntled we decide to quickly drink up when over hearing a comment from staff saying: "if you don't like it here you can go some place else." The Cochonas on that cheeky monkey must have been huge that night!!!!! Enough - this is a place I will never visit again. There are indeed many bars in Berlin who will luckily take 25.-€ for 2 cocktails. Not only will they make the right cocktail but they will do it with a smile. Cheers Monkeys.

Yelp
Darn another one bites the dust. Margarita was out, arrogant bad service ! Such a pity could be so good. Finger food wasn't finger food no napkins provided - staff was good looking ethnic culture - but bad attitudes- shan't return and I am an Angelino living in berlin and Los Angeles since 30 years.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing rooftop bar in the coolest hotel of Berlin. Great vibe, cocktails and views. Staff is super friendly too. Not to be missed when in town!
google avatar

Olena D.

Yelp
Well bar is not bad, looks nice, cosy. But we had to wait for one hour to get in and for this huge line I was expecting it to be something special. The view can be considered as nice, I think its good for summer time. But cocktails are very overprised and beer is 5 euros for a lager of not high quality for sure.

Zineb B.

Yelp
Very good music! I loved the drinks! The food in the bar was okay! Next time I visit Berlin i will definitely go back!
google avatar

June K.

Yelp
Meh. First of all: I've recently been in New York so I am used to different rooftop views. Plus I am the last person who wants to have a drink at a fancy place because... I don't like that attitude of "dress to impress" and "to see and be seen". I was here because of a date and I have to admit that the bar is damn fancy. The interior is classy black, the light is well set. Not to bright, not to dark. The drinks are ok. I'm not a big cocktail fan but yeah they were fine. The price is another matter though. Cocktails are around 12-15€ but on the other hand: You are in a frickin rooftop bar with shit ass fancy interior. How can you be surprised by these prices? Come on! The music is ok I guess. Not my taste but not too loud to talk with your friends. The bar was crowded that night. Not crazy stuffed but you have to fight your way a bit. Since this kind of bars are not my cup of tea I don't need to come back here but might be since there is a good restaurant on the other side. :'D
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
Cool idea for a bar with a view of the zoo and the tiergarten. Cool atmosphere and mid-sized outdoor terrace perfect for good weather. Oddly the terrace is bordered by plants, giving a jungle feel but blocking the view. The best view is from the interior north wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. The earl grey gin and tonic with orange peel was great, good beer on tap, but mediocre bar food. The baba ghanoush lacked salt and smokiness, the caramelized nuts were stale and we had to send them back, and the sweet potato fries were good - hard to go wrong there. Great rooftop bar to take visitors or just or have a good drink.
google avatar

A A.

Yelp
Very nice cozy place that offers good authentic cocktails and most important jazz beats. Ps: its a smoking bar, unlike most of places around
google avatar

Earl L.

Yelp
Waited 20 mins to get in, looked around, waited 45 mins, didn't get to order, left. They have 1 person taking orders and money. If you want a drink, save your time and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
I love those rooftop bars, that make you feel like you're the king (queen) of the world without working to hard, you walk into the building and the sign directs you right up, the place is very chic. But- the restaurant that is right next to it cooked fish that day, and the smell that hit my nose was not a nice start. After I got over we tried looking for a place to sit, there were many options - but as the balcony was swarming with smokers I had to stay inside. We sat in front of the the giant window, with a cold beer, and enjoyed the great atmosphere and the spot-on music while watching the sky change their color. These magical moments make me feel really good, and even though it's a bit pricier than an average Berlin bar I do like it a lot. I think it's totally worth it. Go there, at least once.

Yelp
Hot place in Berlin!! Perfect scenery and modern atmosphere! You can enjoy panoramic sky, tiergarten garden and berlin zoo :)
