We were fortunate that this was just a block away from where we were staying in Reykjavik. The service was top notch and the food was wonderfully creative and fresh. Even having lived in a few places known for fresh seafood, the fish we had at Monkeys was the best I've had anywhere in the world. I do have to say, the dessert tower was a stunning treat and also impossible for the 4 of us to complete, but offered such a great way for us to each find our favorite little sweet end to the gorgeous meal. Highly recommend a visit and I know we'll be repeat customers when we're back in Iceland!

Visiting from Charlotte NC and staying close by. Was looking for vegan options and came across this one, great ambience, food was great as well. But the best part was the beer 🍺 we had. Don’t exactly remember the name but it was something with blueberries sour. Charlotte is known for its beers but this one surpassed Charlotte beers.

We visited that place unexpectedly because our reservation at other place for new year eve was cancelled. And staff proposed us to sit at the bar section which was pretty decent. The atmosphere was very pleasant and there was a DJ later on. Regarding the food: the fish that I ordered was a little bit salty and nothing special. But, cocktails were delicious!

Amazing experience. Came for my birthday dinner. The staff are excellent. Pricy but very generous portion sizes. Took the set menu. The staff kindly swapped the beef portions out. Can recommend heavily for special occasions. The decor is lovely. Sometimes there are great offers too.

Overpriced with disappointment I visited for Christmas dinner yesterday with fairly high expectations, especially for the crispy pork. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite meet those expectations. Service The service felt a bit unorganized. The staff seemed stressed and unsure about the menu, and we were served the wrong wine at one point. It also would have been nice to have a quick check-in during the meal. The pacing felt a little rushed, with plates cleared quickly and some hesitation to serve the main dishes at the same time due to “table space,” even though everything was served on small sharing plates. Food • Lobster Croquettes – Decent, though not particularly memorable. • Hot-Smoked Duck Breast – The portion was small and served colder than expected. • Smoked Salmon Tartare – Tasted fairly standard, similar to what you might find in a supermarket, and the serving size felt small. • Reindeer Tataki – One of the highlights. Flavorful and well-prepared. • Tuna Ceviche – Fresh and enjoyable; we just wished the portion were a bit larger. • Breathing Gyoza – Tasted more like a store-bought version and didn’t quite fit the tone of a premium set menu. • Grilled Reindeer Fillet – Another strong dish, nicely executed. • Purée Steak with Truffle & Garlic Mashed Potatoes – This was the biggest letdown only because the presentation online suggested crispy pork skin, but the skin we received was chewy. The mashed potatoes didn’t have the truffle flavor mentioned in the menu. Overall, the meal felt overpriced for the portion sizes and experience. However, there were some standout dishes, and the concept of the menu has great potential. With more consistent service, better pacing, and closer attention to the quality of certain dishes, the restaurant could offer a much stronger dining experience.

Nice place for a cocktail. Didn’t have any food but the menu looked good. Drinks were good, but the waitress messed up our order for one drink, and didn’t really acknowledge the mistake, but the drink was still fine so no complaints!

Tasty, stylish – but pricey Monkeys is a cool and modern restaurant with a fun atmosphere and really tasty food. The dishes are creative and nicely presented, but the portions are quite small. If you're really hungry, plan to spend around €80 per person without drinks to feel full. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but the quality is very good. Great place for a special evening – just don’t expect to leave with a full wallet.
