Overpriced with disappointment
I visited for Christmas dinner yesterday with fairly high expectations, especially for the crispy pork. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite meet those expectations.
Service
The service felt a bit unorganized. The staff seemed stressed and unsure about the menu, and we were served the wrong wine at one point. It also would have been nice to have a quick check-in during the meal. The pacing felt a little rushed, with plates cleared quickly and some hesitation to serve the main dishes at the same time due to “table space,” even though everything was served on small sharing plates.
Food
• Lobster Croquettes – Decent, though not particularly memorable.
• Hot-Smoked Duck Breast – The portion was small and served colder than expected.
• Smoked Salmon Tartare – Tasted fairly standard, similar to what you might find in a supermarket, and the serving size felt small.
• Reindeer Tataki – One of the highlights. Flavorful and well-prepared.
• Tuna Ceviche – Fresh and enjoyable; we just wished the portion were a bit larger.
• Breathing Gyoza – Tasted more like a store-bought version and didn’t quite fit the tone of a premium set menu.
• Grilled Reindeer Fillet – Another strong dish, nicely executed.
• Purée Steak with Truffle & Garlic Mashed Potatoes – This was the biggest letdown only because the presentation online suggested crispy pork skin, but the skin we received was chewy. The mashed potatoes didn’t have the truffle flavor mentioned in the menu.
Overall, the meal felt overpriced for the portion sizes and experience. However, there were some standout dishes, and the concept of the menu has great potential. With more consistent service, better pacing, and closer attention to the quality of certain dishes, the restaurant could offer a much stronger dining experience.
