The breakfast was very delicious and fresh. Everything tasted great and the portions were perfect. The waitress was very sweet, friendly, and welcoming. She made us feel comfortable and provided excellent service. The atmosphere was really cool and cozy, with a nice and relaxing vibe. I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely come back again. Highly recommend this place!

Tried Monki’s Restaurant today and I loved it! The Dubai chocolate French toast was absolutely mouth watering ,the very first bite felt like being in the seventh sky. It was rich and had perfectly balanced sweetness. The smoked salmon lox was delicious and came with eggs, crispy hash browns, and a fresh salad, a well-rounded and satisfying plate. And the coffee? Hands down the best I’ve had in a while. It was light, smooth, and so good that I kept going for refills ( extra bonus) Definitely worth a visit, highly recommend. I’ll be back soon to try more desserts 😋

My mom took me here because it's her favourite breakfast place and I can see why! The staff are very warm, welcoming, and friendly. They delivered quick service and great recommendations. I ordered the seasonal eggnog latte, I enjoyed it, but I'm also not picky about my coffee. We also got the brisket skillet and brisket eggs Benny. The hollandaise sauce is really good, has a nice kick! And the monki hash is so crispy! Special shout out to our server, Riley. Thanks for starting our day out on a positive, high note!

I was sadly disappointed with this place. It might have had some of the best hollandaise at a restaurant I have ever had. ... but the service was bad enough it overshadowed the food. We used the wait list and got a table just as we arrived. Recommend waitlist or reservation as it is a very small restaurant with tight and limited seating. We waited a looooong time to be served. The table comes set up with water thankfully. And we ordered pumpkin spice lattes which came quickly. Then the server seemed to somehow forget about us. We felt pretty ignored. Someone who was seated about 10 minutes after us got their food and drink before we even got to order our food. The server acknowledged it was too long of a wait and said they wouldn't charge me for a side of hollandaise I ordered (which is true they did not). The food was beautiful and came quickly. She did forget the side of sauce and I had to ask for it, whatever, it happens. We finished eating and were quite happy. Then we waited.... and waited...and waited for them to clear our plates and bring our bill. The server was chatting with the other server in the back of the restaurant. Then when they came out, they cleared almost the whole restaurant and re set it up, sat it and brought people their food before I finally asked the other server for our bill. We waited at least 35 minutes for our bill. Im not sure what we did to be completely ignored by our server after the food was brought but thats exactly what happened. I've never walked out on a meal but seriously considered it. Sadly will not be back to this establishment.

Maya was my server. Her service was outstanding, very friendly and made me feel welcome. I was craving eggs Benedict on a cold morning and I ordered the bacon one and it was delicious… You can tell the hollandaise sauce was from scratch and the bacon was thick cut. I did also order a side of pancakes, but I had to take it to go because my breakfast order was more filling than I thought it would be. Prompt service and a cosy little spot. Adding a photo of the candy cane hot chocolate Maya recommended!

Super delicious and high quality-nutritious breakfast spot! It was clear all ingredients were freshly prepared and high quality. Everything tied together perfectly. Doneness on point. The braised beef Benedict was mouthwatering. Hollandaise had a beautiful spice to it which added the perfect richness to the dishes. The salted caramel latte is a must! Highly recommend for a hearty Albertan breakfast 🍳 Be sure to add yourself to the waitlist before going here, seating capacity is minimal!

Got there after using the wait list and was told that we needed to wait longer than they said. Service was polite but for how small of a restaurant it is it seemed quite slow. Food was pretty good but they have small portions and could only cook one our eggs correct for both meals. Very small restaurant and the tables are close to each other so keep that in mind when going.

Had the Classic breakfast with pork sausage and bacon. Sausages seemed boiled and the rest was just breakfast. Nothing to brag about. Then table next to us had chicken and waffles and that looked delicious!! Coffee sucked. I have had better for the price.

Came here for breakfast. Online waitlist didn't work on my phone and was inaccurate anyway. We called to confirm the wait time and it was an hour off. When we called to confirm the waitime they quoted 1 hour (called at 11AM) and were happy to add us to the waitlist over the phone. Parking all around this resturant as it is beside the Farmers Market which is awesome as an after brunch idea. Place is very nice and we loved the atmosphere. Brother tried the Monki Pick Me Up and found it too strong (alcohol). Brisket Bene - pretty cheap with the brisket in my opinion. Boyfriend said it was the BEST hollandaise he has ever had. Potatoes were pretty bland for my liking. I got the Monki Perogies. Not as much bacon and onions as in the picture. 7 perogies given. Didn't fill me. They were tasty but to me not worth the price.

Food was cold. Staff made it right which is positive. Cool little spot. Seemed slightly understaffed.

Latte and food were lukewarm. Brisket hash was arranged in a cold skillet and the food tasted like cooking oil spray. Totally unacceptable and unimpressive for the price. Service was mediocre. Will not return and will not recommend. Your ambiance is good but you could do better.

Got the vegan not so classic huevos rancheros. It was tasty. Loved the presentation. Portion size was good. I liked the different textures. The house hot sauce was really tasty too. I would defiantly recommend this place. I just wish they sold their logo on glassware.

Lena is a welcoming server and the food was served promptly and very well presented. The space itself was so warm.

All our dishes were really good! While they each have the same/similar components, they each have their own unique flavors which really give each dish its own edge to them. The food was comforting and savory, both critical in a brunch. We came in soon before closing as we didn't check the hours before coming in, however the waiter and everyone else with whom we crossed paths was super nice, smiled, laughed at our jokes and were patient with us while choosing our food. To say the least this is a wonderful place to visit, very much worth it!

Is this my go to brunch place? Definitely not. I could think of 10 right off the top of my head I rather go than here. I don't ever get excited to come here but when a friend wants to come here and try it I go with it. It's a super small spot like living room size no privacy for any conversation as I am one foot away from the next table and can hear every detail of their convo. And if I had to wait anymore than 10 minutes I would just go somewhere else to be honest. I've tried their smoked salmon eggs Benedict here and I love it. But only that. Their potatoes? Nope I don't like sugar on my potatoes. Sweet potatoes for breakfast/brunch is a no no. Their salad? No thanks their dressing also super sweet pretty sure it's a balsamic reduction drizzled on and the vegetables were softened and wilted they were not crisp and fresh. I also had their avocado and smoked salmon toast this is not bad a great healthy choice. They were super Stingy on the cream cheese on the toast there was no point in putting anything on there as I couldn't taste the cream cheese so if You want to order this I would tell them a bit more cream cheese. My friend and I also tried their matcha chocolate ball dessert which was $18 (pricey) when you find out what's in it. But we bought it just for photos and Instagram...if you want to know what's inside... some cut up rice crispy, broken cookies, Oreos, and a bunch of whipped cream. Diabetes ball. Overly sweet. We took 4 bites and was over it.

Took me five+ visits until I finally realized that this is my go-to brunch place! What makes this place special for me is their mix of potatoes and sweet potatoes hash. Their Brisket Poutine is a must try! I'm just sad that they don't serve lattes.

Ordered waffles with candied bacon. Hubs ordered the brisket and the boy ordered the chorizo Benedict. Yum. Everything we ordered was spot on delicious with a great blend of flavours and texture. Each dish was artfully displayed making the meal even more enjoyable. The entry is oddly hard to find. We weren't the only ones to go to the east side of the building when we needed to go to the west side. Probably more intuitive in the summer when the patio is open. Cute relaxed decor. Upbeat music. Decent coffee. Would I return? Yes Would I recommend? Yes

Like their new location beside farmers market across from Canada Olympic Park. Great bowls and bennys. Worth the drive.

Absolutely my favourite breakfast joint in Calgary. Do not expect to come here without waiting in line but you can always walk by; place your name on the list and go for a brief stroll around the neighbourhood. Monki has the most unique delicious breakfast item which is their stuffed French toast. This brioche loaf comes filled to the brim on the inside with bananas and other delectable goodies and drizzled with chocolate sauce and other sauces which are out of this world. Whether you're a sweet tooth or not; this item is a must have at this breakfast restaurant. You really can't go wrong with whatever else you choose from this menu and I've never ordered something that I didn't like. I make sure that my counterpart diner shares with me or I end up over indulging and order another entree on top of the previously mentioned and always a must French toast. My favourite is their brisket eggs Benedict. The meat is pull apart with a spoon tender and the mushroom make it heartier than it already is. The Benedicts come with hash browns and I choose fruit over salad and a unique touch is that you can have it served a fluffy waffle! The friendly service is a touch on the slower side but that's only because they are jam packed no matter what time of the day or week you go in because Monki is the place to go for breakfast or brunch in Calgary.

Wanted to try monki for a while because we live close,finally walked down one afternoon around 1 and was able to get in right away without waiting. I wasn't sure if the French toast would be too sweet it was not, some of the best French toast I've had in my life. Definitely a must try! Check their Waitlist online as last time we tried going unfortunately it was a three hour Waitlist because they are so good!

attended Inglewood location on May 19 th 2024 ordered breakfast hash with a side of toast my wife ordered halumi Benedict with eggs poached medium to well toast came out not even toasted hash browns were par cooked crunchie in the middle my wife's meal came out eggs runnie with has browns under cooked almost raw when waiter came over with the bill he asked how it was I said your joking wright he walked off I was expecting him to bring the manager over never did have wrote the restaurant twice since experience have had no response we're not complainers but this restaurant is awful don't waste your money they don't care and just want to process you from there exposure of being on tv

The restaurant is pretty cozy, and the display of hot sauce by the bar is impressive. Honestly, it looks more like the inside of a pirate ship than a calming brunch location lols. Staff are friendly and know their menu items inside out (I appreciate that). I like how they asked questions about egg preparation, "Do you like your eggs made soft, medium, or hard?" I haven't been to many restaurants that would ask that question for egg benedict dishes. They also offer an in-house sauce called prosecco hollandaise, which comes a tad sweeter than your typical hollandise. I think they definitely drenched my egg benedict with the sauce but that's fine because it was quite tasty. The eggs were fantastic, though their benedicts could have been larger in size lols. The monki hashbrowns are a treat, it's actually quite heavy and filled the entire plate. It's definitely not bland in taste, I believe it was topped by paprika (or maybe it was cajun? or maybe it was a chili mixture). Very crispy on the outside.

Worst brunch experience i had in years ! To say the least. It's like except for the super cool display lf spicy sauces, everything went wrong. My friend chose the place. First of all, the place is packed and you re nearly elbow to elbow with the table next to yours. I ordered the regular breakfast 2eggs ect, just one choice of protein, quite cheap for a 16$ plate, i picked smoked salmon. My friend got the breakfast poutine with a poached egg on top. The coffee is extra. A whopping 3.50 for very forgetable filter coffee. When we got our order, i picked few sauce and asked for mayo, she said yes and didnt told me i will le later charged 1$ for some hellmans mayo The sugared potatoes are bold but ultimately very weird, i had just one tiny slice of salmon as the photo shows, and if you want extra, be prepared to cash 5$ ‍ My friend had to send back his order cos his poached egg was.....well an hard egg, the waiter did not react when he said so and he had to tell her he was not going to keep the plate in this condition Once back he had the bad surprise to see his poutine soaking in cooking oil and melted fat, the ground beef would have likely be thrown in with all the cooking oil in the pan, unbelieviable. After having to ask for coffee refill since she didnt came to see us for it for 20min, i finally got the mayo (halfway thru my plate....) And..... she spilled coffee all over my hoodie. And said sorry and stood there just waiting until i told here she has to clean it, like today. Finally got a cloth and cleaned the coffee a bit. Never had such a bad experience, i wonder how this place is still opened. 41$ for 2 plates and one coffee, offered me no discount or further apology for fuckin up my hoodie. For the first time in years i left no tip. Need deeeeeeep improvement.

This is my favourite place for breakfast and brunch. They have some good options.. salty like good bennies or sweet like some good fundie. I couldn't try the fundie, but they looked amazing and they smelled good. But the Benny is amazing. I really liked. Don't forget to go there earlier or try to book a table cause the place is smile. By the way, they have so many options of peppers!! The service is really good :) I hope you like this place!!!

Not a bad little place! My girlfriend took me here for breakfast a few days ago and I have to say I am impressed. They have an array of options for eggs benny, I settled on the salmon benny because I love capers. It was really good. The chipotle aoli was a nice little add on that I would recommend people ordering! Overall it was a really good meal! I definitely enjoyed the benny! Although I did find a long brown hair in it, which was kind of off-putting, but nothing major. Decor is very interesting. I love the use of the space and the plants. The logo is also awesome. Whoever did the graphic work for it did a great job! Server was friendly and gave good service, she didn't rush us or send the bill to early on. Waters could be filled a bit more frequently! I would definitely return here! It was delicious and the space was small and cozy! I would also recommend to my friends!

Even on a blizzard cold weather this place is busy! Came here on a Sunday long weekend with the family and the wait time was over an hour. I joined the waiting list on yelp (first time using this option)!! Parking is terrible only street options. After a long wait we were seated near the entrance. The restaurant is quite small with only a few tables and a bar area. It's not the best for big groups and the tables are small. We ordered the Spinach Bene, smoke salmon Bene, perogies, monkie burger, bacon waffles and French toast. Our favourites were the perogies and French toast. The French toast was soft and fluffy. The Waffles were only okay. But the perogies are a must try you won't be disappointed. We also ordered coffee (average) and red velvet hot chocolate which was not too sweet and really nice for a cold day. Our service was great; we spilt the red velvet hot chocolate all over the table and floor and the waitress was so friendly helped us clean it up and the waiter brought us a new hot chocolate. Overall it was a nice place to have brunch.

My only real complaint is that the place is tiny, to be honest. I wouldn't suggest coming here with more than a party of 2. They're using the NoWait app, which makes the wait WAY better because you can just download the app, add yourself to the waitlist and plan accordingly. I had the skillet with brisket & pork sausage hash topped with eggs and hollandaise - yum. Price is what you would expect (around $20 or so per person). I really enjoyed the food here and look forward to returning.

It was not the best brunch I've had in Calgary. They put sugar on their potatoes. Why?

Came here Wednesday around 1PM for brunch with my friend and we were seated immediately. We noticed the place was small, offering around 7~ tables and seats available near the chef area I ordered the smoked salmon benedict and my friend ordered the chorizo benedict. Both benedict was topped with alfalfa and fresh dill (which gave it a nice flavour). The hollandaise sauce was amazing; it was rich, creamy and savoury that did not overpower the other ingredients in the benedict. It also came with their potatoes, which was covered and fried with sugar. The sugar made it look brown on the outside, and gave it a nice texture. Adding sugar to the potatoes is a new taste to me, and I quite enjoyed it. However, my friend would have enjoyed it to be more savoury than sweet. Server was attentive, and filled our water right away when she noticed it was half empty. It is a neat brunch place, offering range of hot sauces and fortune cookies at the end of our meal. It is more on the pricier side compared to the portion you get.

I've eaten here twice. There service is always excellent. The food is good too but out of the 3 meals I've tried, two looked better than they tasted and it's a little pricey. Having said that, it's still good and them menu changes a lot so I expect they'll continue to improve with time. But for now, I appreciate what they do! PS- the Brisket Poutine is a go!

Ventured this way with a couple of my friends bc we saw the picture of their chocolate dome dessert. Anyways we got there 8pm on a weeknight and it was pretty empty. Service was prompt and very friendly. There are a few vegetarian options. I got perogies without the bacon, another friend got fries and we all shared the dome chocolate dessert. Omg it was so sweet I could only eat 3 bites. It was tooooo sweet filled with brownies and chocolate chip cookies with maple syrup on top. I wish they had ice cream in that mix somewhere too. Anyhow, I thought the perogies were nice and the dome chocolate dessert I wouldn't order again. If you are a chocolate lover you would love it. It was just ok for me as it was too much chocolate for me. I don't know if I would come here again.

Went here for brunch over the weekend and there was a really long wait to get in so get the no wait app so it saves you a bit of waiting! The place is small but cozy and the servers were really nice. It was decorated well with a jungle type theme with small monkeys hanging off trees - its super cute! For drinks I got the bottomless coffee so yea unlimited coffee basically haha For food, I got the brisket, mushroom and truffle ricotta Benedict which also came with hash browns and fruits. You could get a salad instead of the fruits as well. I really liked this meal - the hash browns were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside with a perfect amount of spices on top. The hollandaise sauce was also spiced as well which was different that the other Benedict's I've tried. You can't really go wrong with a brisket and mushroom Benedict, like ever, so I would highly recommend it! The hungry monki is basically the same as the Benedict but on a bed of hash browns so more carbs yay! The table beside me were having the earl grey chocolate fondue and it looked so good! There's also a new Instagram pic of their chocolate domes of yellow turmeric, matcha and earl grey chocolate filled with strawberry and brownie and salted caramel for their dinner menu so basically I have to go back here to try all of that out soon!

Didn't get to go inside because the wait was an hour (no one there) they said they don't accept resos. But luckily it was a nice Fall day as we enjoyed brunch outdoors. Shared the brisket poutine and reversed French toast! Yum! Definitely a must try when you're in YYC.

Appalling. Ordered the "bowl" with lemongrass and coconut broth and added 2 poached eggs to it. I was not prepared for a measly few cups of broth and a pinch of sprouts...for $19!?!?!?! Are you kidding me??? It only came with 1 of the 2 eggs requested. The broth was bland and it tasted like someone's first time trying to cook with coconut milk.. My partner ordered the brisket skillet and it came with two poached eggs on top. I informed the waitress not to charge me for the egg I didn't receive and she replied "oh they added it to the other dish instead I guess." She took it off the bill. She didn't offer to fix my meal or get me the egg I requested...Also did not appreciate being asked "would you like fruit?" and not being told that you get 4 tiny slices of fruit for $5. Total rip-off. The bill was over $53 for two coffees and two tiny breakfasts. I have no problem paying for quality but the flavors do not match up to the hype. I still feel dumbstruck how a few cups of broth cost me $20. The only reason this place isn't one star is because the coffee was good.

This is my first time here. Decided to try it after seeing a post from yelp on Instagram. I ordered the breakfast fondue, and my friend ordered the chocolate waffles. I love the ambiance and it wasn't very busy on a Friday morning around 10, and you have to pay for parking but not too bad! Coffee is great but my friend found it too strong, Service is good, very friendly, place is small, not good for large groups. The fondue was good but too dry, needed something other than chocolate like a sauce, waffles were ok but overload of whipping cream! Still good! Bacon yummy, but if I go again will try something else like skillet or eggs Benedict! Glad I tried it!

I was meeting a friend for weekend brunch...and being a fan of monkeys, I was initially drawn by this restaurant's name. After reading some reviews, I was curious to visit this tiny but eclectic restaurant. Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Definitely very unique space - in total I would say it is only about 800 sq feet. Trendy with very interesting decor including a variety of hot sauces on the bar counter, several monkey-related decorations, an open kitchen, and only a few tables with a narrow hallway. Having read some reviews, I had already signed up 30 min prior on Nowait, however we still had to wait about 15-20 min to be seated at the bar. Unfortunately, because the space is so small, there is really no room for huge bags or jackets. I appreciate what they have done with the space, however I would have still preferred a bigger restaurant. Location is excellent - across the street are several Korean stores as well as a natural food store. I was surprised that parking was not difficult at all for a Sunday morning! Food: 4.5/5 I had the smoked salmon and crispy capers eggs benedict. It was delicious!! Perfect portion size and the eggs were cooked just perfect. I had the hollandaise sauce on the side which was good as I prefer less sauce in general. I was once told that the quality of hash browns is indicative of how good a brunch restaurant is - and I have to say these ones were delicious =) I love the few yam hash browns that were mixed in with the traditional potato ones and the slightly spicy but sweet flavoring. The dish also came with a small fruit cup. Fresh and satisfying breakfast! Price: 3/5 As expected for brunch - maybe a bit on the average to high-average size for quantity Service: 3/5 The wait was longer than expected. There was some confusion / disorganization with the wait list, which was a bit frustrating given that most people had already signed up using Nowait. Also I thought our server was a bit aggressive, but it was also quite busy at the time. Overall average. Overall: 4/5 The space is definitely small but cool and unique. I would say the food was probably stood out most for me as my favorite meal is breakfast. It is a nice location for a weekend walk afterwards especially with the neighboring markets. I would consider returning again but maybe at a quieter time to avoid the long line and packed space!

Very disappointing after this being my favourite breakfast in Calgary, Showed up at noon on Father's Day , Restaurant was half empty , Was told to go on a waiting list for two hours. Stood outside for ten minutes on their empty patio trying to figure out where to go next and the groups that were supposed to be arriving never showed up. ... Monki never operated like this before. So at the end of the day , the business operations are in shambles and I wouldn't recommend a visit . It's too bad because the food is amazing or was ...

I've heard great things about Monki so I went in with high expectations. We waited in line virtually using the NoWait app so luckily we didn't have to wait for our table at all. Service: 2.5/5. The server we had seemed 100% done with her job and it was only 10 am. I was trying to decide between the French toast and another sweet waffle dish and when I asked for her suggestion, she just said "well, do you like sweet stuff? They're both good"... lol not helpful???? Food- 4/5. I got the French toast which was delicious! My friend's got the eggs benny and said it was great as well. Coffee was cold, even the refills. Overall, I'll probably give Monki another try because the food was good and I liked the overall vibe of the restaurant. Hopefully the service was just an off day and not the norm.

Two stars for the ambiance and their hot sauce collection. Don't go here if you actually want to eat a good breakfast. It's a super small space and as a previous reviewer mentioned you're elbow to elbow with other customers. My husband ordered the Benedict on a waffle.. everything was too sweet and the potatoes had way too much Cajun salt on them. I ordered the morning after breakfast. Let's just say it left a lot to be desired. Sad eggs, super salted potatoes.. and the toast had butter on half of them..so not worth the price they charge. If you're going in for Instagram photos then surely hit this place up but definitely not for the food. Finally they don't have an espresso machine so only drip coffee.. that in my books deserves NO STARS. Enough said!

I used to be a regular here when Ty & Jaret ran the restaurant, but since they sold it to the new owners (Feb 27, 2017) the food isn't nearly as good and the portions seem smaller.

This was the worst huavos rancheros I have ever had. Greasy, barely any of the stale tortilla chips, 1 egg, need to pay for sour cream, no salsa , like two Spinach leafs and a small portion to boot. It upset my stomach. NvR again. Small portion for the price. NVR AGAIN. Other things on the menu looked and tasted good. huevos rancheros MY ASS! :-(

A cute little brunch place, aesthetically pleasing, but the food wasn't outstanding, still good but not the greatest.

I'm going to chime in on this place too. In April arrived to check them out on a cold icy mid-afternoon shortly before 2pm, and it seemed they were about to close for the day. The approach to the entrance was treacherous, as the ice and snow had not been shovelled in the morning nor was there salt or gravel spread anywhere on the concrete and wood-deck. One slip and anyone could have been hurt...? Upon entering, when I politely asked about their lunch specials, a woman of asian origin who may have been the boss coldly waved me off, saying they were closed, although the door was still open. But it wasn't what she said that turned me off, but how she said it. Not at all gracious or friendly, she obviously didn't care about how the cold shoulder would go over with a potential customer. I left and never have returned, nor ever will! For over a dozen years I lived in different parts of Asia: south of Siberia there's a distinct contrast between the 4-5 major people groups there: her cold attitude strongly correlated with what I had come to know in one of them. Perhaps the food is great, or much like other many breaky places in the Beltline/Mount Royal/Mission districts, but I am willing to forego the pleasure rather than run into that horrid attitude again!

We came here for our first time on my birthday breakfast on a Thursday morning around 10am. It was a lil busy, we had to wait 20 minutes to get seated, which I already anticipated after reading all the yelp reviews. Monki is a pretty cozy restaurant - seats probably max 20-30 people inside and 30 or so on their patio. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is great. The servers were attentive and seemed genuinely happy to see us. The wait for our food was about 40 minutes, which is a bit long, but the wait was well worth it. We ordered steak and eggs, and salmon and capers beni. The steak was cooked perfectly and the salmon was not overcooked at all! I especially liked that the food was not oily or salty, like most breakfast restaurants, I've been to. Their potato hashes were great as well, it had a hint of sweetness and maybe cinnamon? Not sure, but we really enjoyed our meal. Overall, I definitely recommend Monki and cannot wait to visit again.

Life changing? Nope. Trendy and hipster? Sure. Service was good. Coffee was mediocre. I came here at a semi okay time. It was just the two of us and there were 2 open tables with room for 4. There was a bit of hesitation to seat us at either of them (which I would totally expect at Calgary Court during lunch rush...but not here.) I guess when there's maybe 10 tables in the entire establishment they want to maximize their space with the largest parties to fill large tables as possible. I ordered the eggs Benny and it took at least 20 minutes to come. (Not used to how long it takes at my other go-to brunch place.) The first taste was good and with a little kick. I guess you don't get a choice of soft, medium or hard. You just get soft so expect lots of runny eggs. The eggs are great quality eggs; beautiful orange in color and extremely tasty. The side potatoes are alright but nothing to call home about. The fruit cup is unique and included a lychee, orange slice, watermelon slice, grapes, blueberries, and pineapple slice. I'm just trying to understand what the hype is about. I feel like this establishment feels superior and cares not for the waiting customer. Yes it's a tiny place and there is no waiting room, but there are better ways to get customers to wait in line for a coveted table. Would I return? Perhaps, but only if I were passing by and felt hungry enough to stop in to see if they were super busy. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat here like I did this visit. I just really wanted to try it and see what the hype was about. Although the service was good, it's the getting in part that bugged me about the establishment so I had to minus a star for that aspect. Other restaurants who are even busier have found much less demeaning ways to let customers in without forcing them to squish up like sardines in their tiny little closet-like entryway. (Hint: NoWait App works wonders!)

Monki Bistro was one of the few spots that stood out to me when I was searching for restaurants to check out, so as soon as we arrived to the city this was the first place we ate at. The place itself was very cute and hipster. The outside dining area was perfect for the weather (80 degrees) but sadly there was no open seating so had to sit inside. Regardless the inside was just as cute and cozy. Nice big windows for the sunshine to come through. Now the food was quite small in portion I have to admit but it did the job. I got the mushroom and spinach Benedict with a side of potatoes and fruit and it was delish. We also tried the mint mimosa idk if it was a virgin cause I did not taste an once of alcohol. As for the waffles I feel as if it could be more airy. They were good especially the chocolate but the waffles felt a little rubbery if that makes sense. Overall this place is great for brunch, rain or shine.

This was the first restaurant my friends and I ate when we landed in Calgary. Thankfully Yelp led us to this great restaurant. Parking: There is street parking or free parking for 2 hours at the Co-Op market next door. Yay for free parking! Setting: The first thing I noticed when I walked into this restaurant is that it is very small! The walkway is very narrow and we had to either wait in that area or outside. Since it was too cold to wait outside, we stood in the narrow walkway waiting to be seated. As many Yelpers have pointed out, the wait can be very long. You were warned! We waited for a good 45 mins until we were seated. The decor and setup of the restaurant is very cute and definitely hipster. There was a chair hanging in the middle of the room haha. The restaurant has probably about 10 tables and the bar area. The tables can sit about 2-4 people max. Maybe 6 if they combine them. Food: Monki offers benedicts, frittatas, salads, paninis, mac n cheese, burgers, steak, etc. They also offer drinks such as juice, coffee, tea, cocktails, mimosas, beer, spritz, etc. Sides include fruit cups, hashbrown & aioli, bacon, toast & housemade jam, grapfruit brulee and Spolumbo's breafasta & sausage. I ordered the prosciutto, brie, fig jam, & balsamic reduction panini with a side salad. Omg.... it was so delicious!!! It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. I've never really eaten fig flavored dishes but after this, I was hooked. The side salad was also really good. Fresh and lightly flavored. The prosciutto did get a bit salty at times but other than that, it was perfect. The dish cost $15 CAD. My friend ordered the morning sundae which consists of coconut granola, fresh fruit, lavendar honey & organic yogurt with toast ($13 CAD). It looks sooooooo goood! Service: We only talked to our waiter but he was very friendly and efficient. I can't see mean people working at a place like this haha.

"Where should we go for brun-" "Monki". It will always be Monki. If there is every a reason to go to this place, you do. Actually, you honestly don't need a reason, just an empty stomach. While their bennies are unreal, if you were to go here for the first time I would probably say to get the Brisket Hash. Unless you really like bennies, then get a benny, you wouldn't be disappointed either way. Their hash browns are kinda unique in the sense that its almost like there's a bit of a BBQ sweetness to it? I can't really explain it, but all I can say it that is was delicious and that you have to try it for yourself. Also get the chipotle aioli on the side. Bonus points to the fact that their fruit cup are not just stupid melons and cantaloupe, but actual different fruits! Wait times can be quite long, but I assure you its well worth it. You can either just walk around for a bit and work up an appetite or, if you need to do some light grocery shopping, there's a Co-op a block over. Two birds with one stone!
