Where to Sip, Eat, and Stay in Quebec City

"A smart hotel that opened in 2019 and has thrived in part thanks to its speakeasy, where local plants meet premium spirits in surprising cocktails made with ingredients like blueberry liqueur and sea buckthorn; the beverage program also highlights Quebec beers (the province goes wild for microbreweries), wines, vegetarian snacks, local cheeses, and truffled french fries." - Nina Caplan

We loved everything about this hotel. From the moment you pull up to the hotel entrance with its large botanical sculpture set against the bright blue wall, everything about the Monsieur Jean was luxurious and unique. The lobby is filled with art, rich colors, and has a romantic vibe. The hotel room was super spacious with the most comfortable beds. We loved the marble bathroom and heated floors. The service was amazing with everyone at the hotel being completely lovely. It was also the perfect location for our visit. This hotel felt like a 5 star experience.

Located in a very convenient area of the old city, walking distance to everything, restaurants and shops just steps away. St Patrick’s Pub across street had really good food and Thursday had a female singer guitarist who was awesome. |This hotel is beautiful, modern, exceptional in style and amenities. The room had a soaking tub which was very nice..room 700A. It had a kitchen hidden behind closet doors..fully equipped and really efficient with refrigerator, stove, microwave, expresso maker. The only disappointment was with the dining experience in the hotel. The add on breakfast each morning was unimpressive and lacked imagination with the same buffet items served each day. Also dinner was terrible. Only 3 selections and what we ordered was inedible ( pasta dish). Nice atmosphere for a drink.

This little boutique hotel is located in the centre of the old city of Quebec and is simply stunning, with quirky and interesting decor throughout. The bedroom was so comfortable, with a lovely, large bed and huge pillows. Toiletries and dressing gowns were provided so it was almost tempting not to leave the hotel at all - especially once we'd discovered the bar and restaurant! The cocktails and food were excellent, and the staff had as much character as the hotel. Very fond memories.

The location is fabulous - dead center in the old city. We've walked everywhere with sights and restaurants all nearby Fabulous room in quiet hotel with kitchenette (semi hidden in closet), large bathroom and fun artwork throughout the hotel. For Diamond members breakfast is included. Not a huge buffet (breakfast fanatics will miss some favorites) but everything on the buffet is excellent - fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, selection cheese, salmon, scrambled eggs and potatoes. No coffee urn of burnt coffee - they take your order for drinks and the latte is excellent. My wife also loved the frothed milk she got with her tea. Lovely bar (which doubles as the breakfast location). If you find the hidden jewel in your room you can get a free plate of appetizers at the bar. We got tempura shrimp and a salmon/berry dish. Excellent service from valet to reception to the restaurant and a concierge too. Downside, and all minor from our perspective, small breakfast as mentioned, only valet parking, on a hilly street so accessibility could be an issue for some.

Monsieur Jean Hôtel Particulier has a sleek, modern style and an unbeatable location — just steps from the heart of Old Quebec. It’s a great base for walking to shops, restaurants, and historic sites. The décor is creative and contemporary, and breakfast is served in a lovely open-air dining area overlooking the main pedestrian street, which was a wonderful way to start the day. The staff we interacted with were polite, and the check-in process was smooth.||That said, the hotel had a few drawbacks. The hallways feature tacky ceiling lights reminiscent of Space Mountain at Disney World, which clashed with the otherwise elegant vibe. The Wi-Fi was just okay — adequate for basic browsing but not great for heavier use. While the design is eye-catching, some amenities felt more about style than comfort. The atmosphere leans toward trendy rather than warm, and for the price point, I expected a bit more in terms of service consistency and room comfort.||Overall, Monsieur Jean offers a unique boutique hotel experience in an excellent, walkable location, but travelers seeking more traditional comfort, stronger connectivity, and consistent service may want to weigh their options.

We've stayed in our share of hotels etc. over the years but this one stands out. It is very unique in both style and substance. With a great location which makes it so convenient to walking the town, the hotel is all about art, in the best way possible. The rooms are striking with their 'nouveau' flavor. Big and comfortable they go the extra mile. The have a wonderful bar/dining area which looks out to the street one level up. The wall of glass slides open giving it a light and open feel. The cherry on top was meeting Mez at the bar. He is a force of nature. Part cocktail specialist, part food/bar manager and part man about town, he got us into a couple of sensational restaurants we didn't have on our list or which were completely full. Its a great city and we intend to go back, if not for QC itself, then certainly for MJean and Mez.

In our opinion this is one nice, classy, sexy hotel. The staff was fantastic, the rooms were spacious, comfortable and very quiet. The public space is very nice and displays a nice selection of fun art work. The restaurant and bar area are very nice. Thanks to Mez and Tom for some delicious cocktails and conversation. Housekeeping was some of the very best I have ever experienced in all of my traveling. My biggest pet peeve is that housekeeping will provide wonderful attention to detail for the next guest but the daily housekeeping is never as good as when you checked in. The housekeeping staff cleaned and prepped our room like it was the first day. And the location is fantastic close to many great restaurants and shops but without all the crowds of people like up at the Frontenac. We can’t say enough good things about our experience at this hotel.

This luxury boutique hotel is in a fabulous location for exploring the old city on foot. The hotel offers a wonderful breakfast. The rooms are beautiful and very well equipped.||However, we did not find the staff very welcoming or friendly. Other than one guest services employee, who was great, most of the staff acted as though we were an inconvenience. Usually we find that the service in Hilton hotels is exceptionally good, so this was a disappointment.||And, though the room was nice and bright, the hallways and lobby have dark walls and are dimly lit. This seems to be for dramatic effect, but we found the public spaces to be depressing.||We will likely choose another hotel when we next visit Quebec City.

Yelp
What an absolutely delightful new acquisition to the Hilton property options. This boutique hotel became a great weekend getaway for us, spending a night in Quebec City. It's in the old city and convenient to lots of nearby shops and restaurants in the charming old town area. The hotel seemed like an eclectic random selection of chic items for decor, but one comes to realize there's a very deliberate, thoughtful pattern and selection to the entire ambiance of the hotel. EVERY little detail is thought out and with purpose that may never reveal itself to you on your stay. The staff were very attentive and helpful, and friendly. Whether it was at the bar, the lobby staff for check-in / check-out, or anyone else we encountered. The room was well appointed and had a very comfy, clean bed. I especially appreciated the journal that is in each room, where guests can write notes, and the book provides some additional information. We left a note for future guests, addressed to Monsieur Jean, as several other guests had done before us. The Hilton we used to stay at will have to accept that it's been replaced. This is our new go-to whenever we come to Quebec City.

Yelp
Photos of the hotel show rows of windows on all guest room floors. Unfortunately that is not the situation for all guest rooms. In this hotel "city view" equates to window (per front desk staff) and even as a Hilton Diamond I ended up in a cave-like room with a window no more than 24 inches wide. The rooms are nicely outfitted but on cloudy days the lack of natural light is profound. The continental breakfast is nice although guests should go early as the kitchen is slow to replenish items in the later service hours. The front desk staff is personable but many of this group seem clueless regarding the hotel neighborhood and services, opting instead to send you to the concierge desk for even the simplest of questions. This could really be an issue when the concierge desk is not manned! Regarding the concierge staff - Sandrine is a GEM and excellent at guest services. The housekeeping gentlemen were personable and excellent at their jobs. Bottom line - secure a city room view (even if points cannot be utilized)), have a great breakfast earlier in the day and keep Google at the ready to explore the hotel's neighborhood as the location is quiet good.

Yelp
We went to Bijou the fabulous bar in the hotel... didn't stay here but there's no yelp page just for the bar! This bar was amazing ! So colorful and vibrant with an awesome atmosphere and great vibe. Really good background music... the staff were casual and friendly. The menu has some nice cocktails and good wines . They also had a nice bar snacks menu. It looked good from what we saw. We didn't eat here though. If I come back though I will !! We got to sit by the open window table where you get a great view of the streets and was just a nice people watching spot. I had the paper plane cocktail in a lovely little glass and my friends Rosè was nice and crisp. Really enjoyed this great bar and it was our first place we visited in QC and I'll most definitely be back here! Cool and funky !

Yelp
We are currently staying here and I have to say that it's been wonderful! The staff are so friendly and have provided great recommendations! The rooms are so clean and spacious. The beds are super soft with comfy linen. This is a boutique hotel that is new. It has flamboyant charm and I highly recommend. For my American yelpers, it has excellent AC and elevators. I love the charming decor and the blue doors! Well done Monsieur Jean!

Yelp
Awesome boutique hotel. Housekeeping was excellent and room felt brand new. Great location in the middle of the Old City. Staff was super friendly and the bar and food service were both excellent. Would absolutely return in the future.

Yelp
We stayed here September 23, the staff at this hotel are very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, bed soft and bedding was excellent! Located in central city within walking distance of all the fine restaurants and shops in Quebec. I recommend this hotel for everyone who needs a quiet nights rest! Loved it!
