Had a nice comfortable one week stay at Montacute in April. It is located in a lovely neighborhood in Battery Point, close to many cafes, restaurants and Salamanca Market. Rooms, bathrooms and the kitchen were clean, with good laundry provision and nice chill-out spots in the garden and balcony. Antony and the guests I met were all very nice, genuine and friendly people. Lily and Tuxi are the most adorable doggos and always welcome you to join them in the garden! Highly recommend.

I would definitely recommend staying here if you are coming to Hobart. The hostel is in a great location just a short 5-10 minute walk from the harbour area with restaurants and drinks. There are also some lovely coffee shops within a couple of minutes. The beds were super comfy (way better than any other hostel) and the house has a lovely quirky charm. There is a balcony upstairs with a nice view, more seats outside downstairs and there is even free parking too.

What a beautiful place to stay and in a great location. I stayed in a private room which was fantastic for the price. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was directly across from my room. Anthony was such a happy and helpful host. I would definitely recommend staying here if you don’t want to spend a fortune on accommodation. I will back again 😊

Lovely place had an amazing stay. The staff are welcoming and kind they had a storage room for luggage incase you come in early and the whole place was sparkling clean those are the two concerns we had. We got a private room for one night and it was lovely would definitely recommend this place (I was only in Hobart for the one night)

Absolute value for money accommodation. As a first time in a shared room I was very pleased with the whole experience. The guests were friendly and passive. The host was engaging and knowledgeable. Facilities met the standard for budget accommodation. I had everything I needed and the place was very clean.

📝My First Ever Backpacker Hostel Experience – And It Was a Ripper! I’ve always gone for Airbnbs in the past – nice places, but they sure do come with a hefty price tag. This time, I stayed at a hostel for just $38 AUD a night – absolute bargain!🤩 Before I arrived, I did my homework – read through all the reviews, good and bad, just to manage my expectations and avoid any emotional rollercoasters🎢. Check-in wasn't until 2pm, but once I got there, the staff were super friendly and gave me a proper rundown of everything. 🍳The kitchen had all the gear you’d need – plenty of pots, pans, utensils – and heaps of fridge space. You can tell they actually maintain the place too, because the common areas were surprisingly clean and tidy. I picked the top bunk this time. Was a bit worried it might be a rough sleep, but turns out the bed was just as comfy as everyone said – I slept like a log! the room had heating, which was a massive bonus. Every bed comes with a pillow, doona, light blanket, and even a towel – how good's that? I stayed for a week and honestly had no complaints. There was one tiny toilet downstairs that people online had a bit of a whinge about – and fair enough, it’s definitely a tight squeeze. But hey, the place is an old building that’s been converted into a hostel, so you’ve got to take that into account. Luckily, there are two much bigger bathrooms upstairs, a few separate shower rooms – more than enough for everyone. Sure, the building’s a bit old-school, but it’s well looked after and kept clean, which I really appreciated. All things considered, the value for money here is unreal. No wonder it’s often fully booked. ✅ Cheap
✅ Clean
✅ Comfy sleeps 🅿️Free parking Would I come back? Absolutely!

Yelp
I had high hopes for it, and this place offers a nice location and has plenty going for it. There are several tiers of rooms, and I ended up in a larger one than I wanted, mainly because it was booked out well in advance. It's a decent size building, but quite popular. They have plenty of bathrooms, and despite Tasmania being chilly the heat and the blankets did the job fine. They're very low on security, but I think the selling point of the place is that they've tried to set up a culture. The owners are very present and took the time to shake my hand on entering, and one gets the sense that this is a place meant for adults who want to be there (whereas you can find some sketchy, fringe-y characters floating around Australia and New Zealand's various hostels). The worst that could be said of it is that people were noisy the last night I was there, but when you pay for cheap accommodation, that's a risk you take. I was happy to take the money I saved and put it towards other things.

Yelp
My favorite hostel on Tasmania - thanks to Rose and Ant! Great location with lots of love and passion! Just chill out on the balcony or in the garden. Enjoy all the details and the atmosphere of this lovely place. Very good equipped kitchen, great dorms with best beds I ever had in a hostel (and I stayed in loads of hostels). Really unique and superb located just a 3 minutes walk to Salamanca market including a free car park. Montacute is one of the best 3 hostels I every stayed. :-)

Yelp
If this place could get 6 stars I would give it. I've been to many hostels and this BY FAR beats them all. There's warmth, homey-ness and space to create memories of your time in Hobart. Montacute has thought of EVERYTHING from curtains on your bunks, throws to keep you warm, soaps shampoos supplies if you're running low to coffee pods chocolate treats if you're wanting to be naughty etc. it definitely adds boutique to hostel on every level! To add to the amazing ness Rose and Ant have been amazing hosts including the friendly Lily and Tucksy. I will be back here again!
