Superb find - what a great little hostel in the heart of Tasmania. Comfy beds, clean kitchen, great mix of friendly travellers of all ages, friendly helpful host, lush garden, cute doggos and wonderful location in historic Battery Point - just walking out the door is a historic tour, not to mention stones throw from fabulous restaurants, cafes and Salamanca Market. This hostel is a gem, these sort of places are becoming harder to find so thank you for making this available!

It was a really nice and tidy place with lots of friendly people. The host was so kind and caring. The showers and toilets were sufficient for the number of guests. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking. The view from the balcony was wonderful. It was located right in the heart of the Battery point with beatiful streets and views.

Great location, clean, comfy and quiet for a hostel. Real mix of age groups staying here from teens and parents to young backpackers and older travellers. Owner was always around if you needed anything. Prefer this place to the YHA in Hobart, which is noisy in comparison (guests, church bells, helicopters and loud cars).

Love my stay at Montacute. Comfortable beds, spacious kitchen, many toilets and bathrooms, helpful and thoughtful owner. And I met many friendly people there to travel together in Tasmania afterwards. We had an amazing time. Thanks Montacute, will stay there again whenever I visit Hobart.

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at! The house is beautiful. Great views from the balcony. Fantastic vibe. Easy to get to know other travelers. Quick walk to downtown area. I definitely recommend staying here if you’re in Hobart!

Definitely the best hostel I’ve stayed in across Australia, and even Europe. It’s very clean and has a home-type vibe to it. Good price considering the quality of the hostel and the facilities so would recommend to all. If I’m ever back in Hobart I would love to come back.

Unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. To our dismay, we discovered bed bugs during our stay, which not only caused discomfort but also raised health concerns. We urge other travelers to consider alternative accommodations in the area to avoid similar experiences. It’s crucial for a lodging place to ensure cleanliness and safety, and Montacute Bunkhouse fell short on these basic expectations. Please look elsewhere when booking your stay in Hobart.

I had high hopes for it, and this place offers a nice location and has plenty going for it. There are several tiers of rooms, and I ended up in a larger one than I wanted, mainly because it was booked out well in advance. It's a decent size building, but quite popular. They have plenty of bathrooms, and despite Tasmania being chilly the heat and the blankets did the job fine. They're very low on security, but I think the selling point of the place is that they've tried to set up a culture. The owners are very present and took the time to shake my hand on entering, and one gets the sense that this is a place meant for adults who want to be there (whereas you can find some sketchy, fringe-y characters floating around Australia and New Zealand's various hostels). The worst that could be said of it is that people were noisy the last night I was there, but when you pay for cheap accommodation, that's a risk you take. I was happy to take the money I saved and put it towards other things.

My favorite hostel on Tasmania - thanks to Rose and Ant! Great location with lots of love and passion! Just chill out on the balcony or in the garden. Enjoy all the details and the atmosphere of this lovely place. Very good equipped kitchen, great dorms with best beds I ever had in a hostel (and I stayed in loads of hostels). Really unique and superb located just a 3 minutes walk to Salamanca market including a free car park. Montacute is one of the best 3 hostels I every stayed. :-)

If this place could get 6 stars I would give it. I've been to many hostels and this BY FAR beats them all. There's warmth, homey-ness and space to create memories of your time in Hobart. Montacute has thought of EVERYTHING from curtains on your bunks, throws to keep you warm, soaps shampoos supplies if you're running low to coffee pods chocolate treats if you're wanting to be naughty etc. it definitely adds boutique to hostel on every level! To add to the amazing ness Rose and Ant have been amazing hosts including the friendly Lily and Tucksy. I will be back here again!
